Background
Most of the Cullinans and Cullinanes who emigrated from Ireland to North America, Australia and New Zealand did so around the time of the Irish Potato Famine. A branch of the Cullinans in South Africa emigrated in the 1830s. There were also other
Cullinans and Cullinanes who left Ireland before the famine, but little can be gleaned from the poverty of records. We know that a Rev. James Cullinan was in Georgia in the late 1820s (see Manuscripts Section). We also know
that there were Cullinans and Cullinanes in the United States prior to the 1800s, as they fought in the War of Independence (see Veterans). But were these the earliest of all of the emigrants? Below, I have written out a
sampling of the names which have appeared in immigration records. If you can identify any of these individuals, this would be very helpful.
Below is a sampling of the records which have been gathered which describe the geographic areas where the Cullinans and Cullinanes landed in North American and abroad.
