Below are a number of Frequently Asked Questions along with answers, which will hopefully make your experience at this site an enjoyable one.

How do I find my ancestor using this website?
There is no easy way to find your ancestor using this website. There are a number of ideas I can suggest to help you locate at least some information which will lead to a positive hit. Here are a few tips which you can try:

  • Begin with the General Index. Look for your ancestor's name.
  • Check the index for variant spellings of your surname, then try the given names.
  • Check the index for the geographic area where your ancestor lived.
  • Check the US Census Geographic Index or the Griffiths Valuation records.
  • Always check for the names of spouses--since this may lead you back to the family.
  • Consider looking at the Newspaper Index for obituaries or biographical stories.
  • Once you have exhausted these sources, you can send in a query. It's entirely possible that your lines of the family has not yet been recorded.

What can I do to read the contents of the website?
It is possible that your browser is not compatible with the hypertext mark-up language (HTML) used. Refer to the Help page for more information on browsers, graphics, fonts, etc. This may mean upgrading your browser or waiting for the pages to load before you can view the entire page.
