Introduction
Griffiths Valuation used a number of boundaries in an effort to assess taxes across
Ireland. Given the poverty of records in the early to mid-1800s, these records are some of
the most useful sources which exist to trace families to their respective places of
origin. The records contained at this website include Valuations for the Poor Law Unions
of Ballyvaughan, Corrofin, Ennis and Ennistymon, all located in County Clare--the primary
place of origin for the Cullinans.
As time allows, more records from Griffiths Valuation (1848-1864) will be added. While the surnames Cullinan and Cullinane are found primarily in County Clare, the name is certainly found in numerous other counties, viz:
County Cavan (1); County Clare (119); County Cork (35); Cork City (1); Dublin City (1); County Galway (36); County Kilkenny (17); County Laois (3); County Limerick (4); Limerick City (2); County Longford (1); County Mayo (6); County
Offaly (2); County Roscommon (5); County Sligo (1); County Tipperary (10); County Tyrone (15); County Waterford (30).
