How to read a census record? The census record is typically arranged in the following format:
What details can be found in a census record? Typically, these census records provide name, age, place of birth, colour (race), relationship to the householder, address and naturalization/citizenship information. The following are abbreviations found throughout the census records:
Are dates accurate in a census record? Be very cautious of the dates which have been recorded in these census records. There are many reasons why these dates will be incorrect including:
Are there future plans to include more census records? At this time, there are no plans to extract additional census records. However, you may wish to check back occasionally (say, every month or so) to see if more have been added.
What if the state I'm looking for is not included? Most of these records relate to New York, Massachusetts and Illinois--where the Cullinans and Cullinanes emigrated in larger numbers from the time of the famine until the early 1920s. Consequently, I've provided very few records from other states. As time permits, I will be including (in order) Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Vermont, New Hampshire, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island, Texas and Missouri, where Cullinans and Cullinans were established more than 100 years ago.
What if I want more information than what I see? Most of these records are based on the soundex index listings (which are part of the census returns) and therefore, you will be able to view the original record by ordering the census return from your local library (in the United States). For queries from outside the United States, you may want to contact your local chapter of the Church of Latter-Day Saints Genealogical Office, which can order the film on your behalf. In either case, it will be necessary to obtain the correct film number so that you can be sure that you have ordered the correct film. What do I do if I find a match? It is possible that an individual you have found at his website has been recorded or incorporated into existing family lines. The objective here is to try to provide as much genealogical information as possible, therefore, you are welcome to submit the match that you have found. Once a link has been established, I will be pleased to put you in touch with a member of that family, should there be an interest on the second part.
