Enon Cemetery
near Wishart, Polk County, Missouri

Many of my mom's family lived in Polk County, Missouri. There are still a few that live there. We even hold the annual Pettet Family Reunion in Bolivar each year.

I have found that a lot of my ancestors are buried in Enon Cemetery at Enon Missionary Baptist Church near Wishart. Some of those surnames include Hook, Witt, Wilson, Lawson. My great grandparents, John Franklin and Rosa Carolina (Witt) Hook are buried there. (Rosie, as she was called, remarried after John's death so some records have her name as Welch.). John's mother Mary Tabitha (Wilson) Hook and Rosie's mother Martha Jane C. (Lawson) Witt are also buried here. It is a possibility that John and Rosie's fathers are both buried here, although I am not sure yet.

I have seen Enon Cemetery come up so many times during my research that I started wondering just how many of the people buried in the cemetery are related to me. It seems to be a lot. I finally decided to compile this list and I would know for sure just what percentage of people buried in Enon Cemetery are related to me.

The following will be a complete list of everyone buried in the cemetery once I finish it. I am doing extensive research to make this list as complete as possible. I have walked the cemetery a number of times and will try to research obituaries. I am also comparing my notes to the 1979 Cemetery Book for Polk County to make sure I spell names correct and that I don't miss anyone due to a missing or unreadable stone. If you find any errors in the following list or wish to list your name with your ancestor as a contact, please e-mail me.

Items to note...

  • I have not given birth dates for those who appear to still be alive because a death date is not inscribed on the stone in order to protect their privacy.
  • Notes in brackets are extra items that I have found in my research that I thought you might find helpful.
  • Notes not in brackets are actually inscribed on the stone.
