ROCKHAMPTON is a parish and village in Thornbury union, containing, by the census of 1861, 248, and in 1871, 219 inhabitants, and 1206 acres; in the deanery of Dursley, archdeaconry of Gloucester, diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, hundred of Langley, West Gloucestershire; 6 miles south-west from Berkeley Road Station on the Bristol and Birmingham Railway, and 3 north-east from Thornbury. The rectory, in the incumbency and patronage of the Rev. William Unett Coates, M. A., is valued at £289 per annum, with residence and 15 acres of glebe land. The church, dedicated to St. Oswald, consists of chancel, aisle, and porch, with tower and one bell. There is a school for children of both sexes. The poor have charitable bequests producing about £13 15s.0d. per annum. The Rev. Charles Pierrepoint Peach is lord of the manor. The rateable value of this parish is £2341.
