We are always on the look-out for individuals who might wish to continue this site- in the advent of a death or emergency.
It really is not that difficult (if WE can do it- ANYBODY can do it!) All you really need is a computer (MAC or PC), about 5 Meg of space allocation from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), a little time, a program like WebWhacker to replicate the site, a program like Fetch (Mac) or WS_FTP (PC) to upload the files after you've edited them, and a WYSIWYG page editor like Netscape Navigator or Communicator can be a tremendous asset.
It carries no more obligation than you wish to give to it. It is easy to give this a try with a very simple one page test page. We can help you get a test page up and running, to see if you like being a Webmaster. Later if you decide you like Web publishing, we could discuss mirroring this site, taking this site over temporarily if it ever becomes necessary, or providing a relevant contribution. Or, you might just wish to do a site of your own on a totally different topic. Either way, it's fun, educational, and interesting (not to mention the on-line cyber-friends you'll encounter).
The best possible scenerio would be if someone who knew a little about Java, Javascript, web design, CGI, HTML code, etc. would come forward- As they could improve this site tremendously, incorporating user inputed genealogy, and immediate page input/update. But this is not a necessity (we have no more knowledge than the average person about these various languages, and technoligies). This hobby would be perfect for a person who is retired, or semi-retired, or a person who is home-bound, home-based, or likes to do computer work at home.
This type of involvement only requires the amount of time you wish to put into it. So if you want this information to live on forever; get involved; or maybe even be the one to receive; The Torch.
We can't do it
alone.
So please, if you want to
help...
