THE BARD FAMILY
A Note From Your
Faithful Webmaster
V 1.0
Hey gang, we need
everybody's help
& input to make this a great family genealogy web site:
-
You can create your own web page! It's Fun - just use Netscape
Composer (or another WYSIWYG Web page creation application to start
a new page or make changes to an existing one (template). If you had a
good idea, you could even create a "Bard" page that we could put here
on
this site. If you want to, you can download
free Netscape products or have any questions about using
Netscape
products, you
can read about it online. If you wish, you could "mirror" our Bard site
to give it more exposure, and to help ensure its longevity into the
future-
so that all this neat Bard information is never lost.
-
With Netscape Browsers you can retrieve this site (or any
other
site) in order to mirror it on your server, or access it off-line. You
will also need a program to upload the files (or your own pages) to
your
server, such as; Fetch
(Mac) or WS_FTP
(PC). If you wish to mirror this site. (or create your own.)
Also,
Netscape
Navigator Gold or Communicator can be a tremendous asset.
-
We can make changes or additions to this web site for you.
Send
E-mail
(with file attachments if necessary), or send via regular mail;
any
relevant genealogies, links or other information you want to appear on
this site.
-
You might even want to consider saving this entire Web site to
CD-ROM
to
your hard drive (you can do this with Netscape
Browsers or other such editors and presenting it, along with a
Bard Book reprint, to a family member, or to your local library or
historical
Society.
-
You might want to consider offering this information to a
genealogy
magazine, or software publisher, or CD-ROM compiler, etc. If they need
a release form signed - Just let us know - I'll sign it!
-
You might even want to consider printing out some or all of
these Web
pages, in order to have a hard copy version to refer to (and also
to
preserve this information should this site be unavailable for some
reason
in the future).
* Don't forget - there
is
no copyright on this genealogy site and information, so feel
free
to duplicate it or redistribute it in any way you deem appropriate.
To start our Web site off right, we need info from everyone:
This is OUR web site... YOUR web site ... EVERYONE'S web site who is
interested
in Bard Family and related genealogies, or genealogy in general. Anyone
can submit information! Look over this site to see what kind of
information
it covers. We can add to this format or change it - It's up to us!
To start it off, let us set up the site with all of our
information.
Then whenever you want to add or change information, use e-mail to do
it
- or contact us in some other way, and we can make changes or additions
for you.
To start with, we need this basic info for each verified family
member
or lineage branch:
-
Information concerning where you fit in our family tree. We are
primarily
interested in Bard and Bard related genealogies, which emanate from
someone
mentioned in the "The Bard Family - A Chronicle of the Bards" (Better
known
as the "Bard Book") as being a direct or indirect (blood line or
through
marriage) relation of our earliest American ancestor: Archibald Beard.
Archibald had three sons; Richard Bard, William Bard, and Rev. David
Bard.
The hardbound "Bard Book" is a very good place to start looking to
establish
an ancestral connection, and we offer them; for a small site supporting
donation! (See:
Bard's
Corner, our Bard Family Genealogy Sale Page)
-
Birth dates, death dates, marriage dates, & other important dates,
like divorce dates, christening dates, etc.
-
Place of birth, address, occupation, avocation, college name, awards,
accomplishments,
favorite activities, vacation spot, spiritual experiences you wish to
share,
and a comment or quotation that you would like included in your
personal
profile.
-
Optional: A digitized photo of you (preferably a close-up so we can see
your face!) Please don't send things, such as pictures that need to be
scanned, as we presently don't have a scanner. Try to put them in
digitized
format before you send them. (This does NOT include actual genealogical
charts or lineage information that shows your ties to our Bard Book
ancestors-
OK to send them in ANY form.)
-
We consider ourselves equality orientated, and because of the
integrated
and unbridled nature of the Web- we hope that we can be involved
equally
with both paternal and maternal genealogies; and even
find
new ways to express, organize and display relevant information.
-
Storage Space may or may not become a limitation on our Bard Web site.
Right now, until we get some more actual genealogical branches tied
into
the Bard Book ancestors, we had better keep things fairly simple, just
the facts man, just the facts.
- To send e-mail, Just click on:

...and don't forget to order some "Bard Books"!
(They make great
Christmas
and birthday gifts for all those relatives who are so hard to buy for!)
Donation of only: $59.95 + $4.00 S&H = $63.95 Total.
To keep our site growing and interesting, please contribute:
News for the What's New
section:
-
Check the latest news and/or add write ups of what ever is new in your
neck of the woods. Maybe you just got married, had a baby, someone is
moving
to a new location, or you want to share your grief and memories
concerning
someone who has passed on. Whatever it is, write up the news, mail it
or
e-mail it to us, and we'll post it for everyone to read under "What's
New."
Digitized documents of
special
interest for the Bard Family Miscellany section:
-
Anything of general interest to Bard family members.
If you
have any
great bright
ideas
on how to PROMOTE our Bard Family Web site, By all means, go ahead
and...
DO IT! (no spamming though).
Tips,
Tricks
and Techniques:
-
If you have loaded a large page or one with a lot of links, or
graphics,
choose, "open in new window" whenever you want to follow a link from
that
page, and then come back to it. You won't have to reload the large
page,
just return to it. You can open two, three or even four different
windows
if necessary, and navigate easy and quickly between them.
-
There is a way to monitor the pages of this site (or any other) for
change.
In Netscape Navigator select Bookmarks from the Windows
menu,
then What's New from the File menu. You can then select
the
bookmarked pages to see if any changes have occurred to them (without
actually
visiting them and pouring over all the text).
-
Another way to be automatically notified if our "What's New" (or any
other
page) has changed, register with a "BOT" service named: URL-Minder.
-
If anyone knows how to do a cgi, or Java script (or other) page that
allows
password protected forms info (I.e.: family genealogy) to be entered
on-line
by a branch of the family, and be updated automatically- please send
e-mail.
How to
treat photos,
drawings, charts, etc. digitally, for the Web:
-
Photos (and drawings) have to be in digital form before they can go
into
our Web site. You can do this with any of the "pictures to disk"
mail-in services available, then just send a copy of the 3.5" disk (PC
or MAC) to us in the mail.
-
If you have a digital camera, read the manual to learn how to put the
shots
into your computer. OR - more and more camera stores will
digitize
photos or other graphic items for you, and put them on a floppy disk.
-
However you accomplish it, once your photo is digitized you can regular
mail the disk to us, or you can e-mail the compressed (zipped)
digitized
photo to us as an attachment.
-
Fax is of little use for photos, or other things that need to look nice
on our site, as the resolution is just too low.
-
You'll need a scanner with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to
digitize
documents that are all words that will need to be edited, or
reformatted
in some way.
If you
see any
typographical errors; spelling errors, or errors in dates or
genealogical
information, or links that don't work, please send e-mail
and inform your friendly Webmaster.
We
hope that
all those connected to the Bards of Carroll's Delight will purchase or
use, a genealogy program that utilizes GEDCOM cross-platform files. We
will then be able to accept your local information and merge it with
our
database so that everything is accessible and available to everyone.
This
will take some time, and will be very labor intensive, but if everyone
does a part, it should work out ok.
That's it for now!
Enjoy your Web site, and try to contribute in some
way - Thanks! Oh, and one more thing;
(And don't forget the dream of "Bard's Delight" - One World-Wide
Family: We ARE the world.)
~ PEACE TO ALL ~
