Eliza Jane MEANS, daughter of Abraham and Rebecca MEANS of Upwell.
Witnesses to the marriage were the bride's brother, Nailor MEANS, and Ann BUTTER. sister to William.

On 1866 marriage certficate, he is a farmer. But by 1867, William is a "Master Grocer & Draper" at Three Holes, nr Upwell.

In Kelly's Directory of Norfolk for 1900, under Upwell - THREE HOLES:
CAWTHORN William Walton, Grocer & Draper, & Post Office. William is 66 by this time!
And he is still there in 1904.

Inscription on the plaque taken from the Three Holes Methodist Chapel -
"In loving memory of William Walton Cawthorn who passed to his eternal rest Jan 10th 1918,
aged 83 years. An official in the Primitive Methodist Church for over 50 years. He served
faithfully as Local Preacher, Church Steward, School Superintendent, Class Leader, etc.
He was Painstaking, Devoted and Loyal.
Also of Eliza Jane Cawthorn, wife of the above July 22nd 1917, aged 77 years"

William & Eliza Jane are buried together at Upwell Baptist Chapel - I found their headstone earlier this year [March 2002]
whilst looking for RUSSELL headstones there.
BUT until the Baptist Registers are located, I can't confirm William & Eliza's dates of burial
