Joseph CAWTHORN, the 5th child and 2nd son of Joseph & Martha, was baptised at St Edmund's
Church, Emneth, on 1 April 1808.
But where he met and married Hannah WALTON of "Marson" in Bedfordshire, I have yet to find out!
But it would have been in about 1832/33 as their 1st child, William was born in 1834.

My thanks to John Contratto in California for this information very early on in my research [April 2000];
it was this information that led me to consult the Emneth Parish Registers.

In White's 1854 Gazetteer & Directory of Norfolk - Joseph is still at "The Chequers",
but he is also the local carrier from Upwell to Wisbech on Tues, Thurs & Sat.

Hannah died 8 February 1884 and was buried at St Botolph's, Tottenhill, nr Downham Market, Norfolk
on 12 February 1884.
Joseph died 8 May 1886 and was buried with Hannah at St Botolph's on 11 May 1886.
Finding where Joseph & Hannah were buried took some doing, as they weren't at Christchurch or at
Upwell St Peter's where I thought they should be. But when I got Joseph's death certificate and
saw that he'd died at Tottenhill at the home of his grand daughter, Hannah Ann FRANKLIN
and that she'd registered his death, was when I first thought of looking at Tottenhill for their
headstone.
In June 2001, on a glorious sunny day, just as my father & I were on the point of leaving St Botolph's
after a fruitless search, the sun went behind a cloud, and there in front of me was Joseph & Hannah's
headstone.
