Upwell Wedding

Outwell Bridegroom and Wisbech St. Mary Bride

From the "Wisbech Standard", Friday August 7 1925

A pretty wedding of considerable interest to Outwell and Wisbech St. Mary took place at the Baptist Church,
Upwell, yesterday (Thursday) when Mr. Sidney DOUBLEDAY of "The Holts", Outwell, was married to Gladys Marion
HIRCOCK, daughter of Mr. George I. HIRCOCK of ?Wilcock Farm, Wisbech St. Mary.

The service, which was conducted by the Rev. Thos. Douglas (pastor), was fully choral. When the bride entered
the Church the Bridal March from "Lohengrin" was played, and the happy pair left to the strains of Mendelesohn's
"Wedding March". The hymns sung were "The Voice that breathed o'er Eden" and "O Perfect Love".

The bride was charmingly attired in a dress of ivory georgette and satin. She had a veil of Brussels lace
tastefully adorned with silver leaves and orange blossom. She wore silver shoes and carried a sheath of lilies.

The bridesmaids were Miss Merril HIRCOCK (sister of the bride) and Miss Peggy TOUCH (Thrapston cousin of the bride).
They wore dresses of delphinium blue georgette, trimmed with silver and had wreaths of silver leaves in their hair.
Their shoes were silvery and they carried shower bouquets of blue and mauve sweet-peas.

Mr. Elmer DOUBLEDAY, (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man.

The wedding breakfast was served at the White Lion Hotel, Wisbech.

The honeymoon is being spent at Ilfracombe, Devon, and the future home is at "The Poplars", Wisbech St. Mary
