Charles Wesley
Caughlan moved to Pittsfield, Illinois, in 1895 when he purchased the Pike County
Times. He had a newspaper before in Plainville, Ill. There was a fire in 1895 that burned down the whole town of Plainsville. That's when he decided to move to Pittsfield, Ill. The Pike County Times consolidated with the Democrat in 1936 to form the
Democrat Times.
In 1893 Christopher Irving sold the Pike County Banner to A.C. Bently and
Charles Wesley Caughlan. They continued its publication and changed the name to
the Pike County Times.
