Rev. David Caughlan

Rev. David Caughlan was born near Lynchburg, Virginia, February 17, 1824, and died at O'Fallon, Ill., February 24, 1890. When eleven years old he converted and united with the Fourth Street Methodist Episcopal church, St. Louis.

He was licensed to preach in the year 1857. He became a member of the
Southern Illinois conference in 1871. He was married to Miss Ellen Beall, at Alton, Ill., Feb 15, 1844. He faithfully served the following charges: Elsah Circuit, Stannton, Edwardsville Circuit, McLeansboro, Richview, East St. Louis, O'Fallon, Pocahontas, Nashville, Trenton, Carlyle.

He was loyal, earnest Methodist preacher. A few weeks before his death, one Sunday morning, he asked his wife what day it was. On learning it was Sunday, exclaimed with strong clear voice, "Praise God, from whom all blessings flow," and "Thank God for every good thing.

His Christian experience was always bright and clear, and when laid on a bed of suffering his experience was the same. He frequently expressed his readiness to respond to all call of the Master. True to God, and all the interests of the church, he died at his post, and is gone to reap the reward of a faithful servant.

He also had a
Bell and Brass Foundry in St. Louis. A St. Louis city directory lists a David Caughlan Bell and Brass Foundry at 206 N. 7th.
