Maggie Quaschnick, 86, Bismarck, N.D., formerly of Ashley, N.D., died Friday, June 25, 2004, at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck.

Maggie Zundel was born Aug. 23, 1917, on the family farm near Jud, N.D., the daughter of Christoph and Emma (Frey) Zundel. She grew up there and attended country school near Jud. She moved to Lodi, Calif., where she did home health care. She moved back to North Dakota in the late 1930s. She married Heinrich "Henry" Quaschnick on Sept. 21, 1938, at Reno, Nev. They lived 17 miles east of Ashley, where they farmed, raising small grains and livestock. They retired in 1976 and moved into Ashley. He died in 1983. She moved to Aberdeen, S.D., in 1986. She moved to Fridley, Minn., in 1991, and moved to Bismarck in 2002. She enjoyed sewing, winning many awards for it, gardening and canning. She collected First Lady Inaugural Dolls that are now displayed at Centennial Village in Jamestown. She was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and Aberdeen.

She is survived by a son, Dennis (Myrtle), Aberdeen; two daughters, Jannifer Hoffman, Sturgeon Lake, Minn., and Patricia Goettle, Bismarck; four brothers, Baldwin, Tampa, Fla., Calvin (Marcella), San Luis Obispo, Calif., Ted (Virginia), Pierce, Colo., and DelWayne, New Castle, Wyo.; five grandchildren; a foster grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; and a foster great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Patrick, five brothers, three sisters and a grandson.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with the Rev. Annette Crickenberger officiating.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley.

Otilda Rader, 76, Hays, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at her home.

Otilda Dewald was born Nov. 23, 1925, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Peter and Albina (Doerr) Dewald. She married Howard LeRoy Rader Feb. 7, 1947, at Sacramento, Calif. She was a homemaker. He died July 11, 1996.

She is survived by six sons, Robert and Donald, both Hays, Ronald, Topeka, Kan., Larry, Sacramento, Roger, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Phillip, Minneapolis, Minn.; four daughters, Linda Vargas, Sacramento, Shirley Sawyer, Centerville, Mass., Nancy Rader, Ventura, Calif., and Marie Lowman, Marstons Mills, Mass.; four brothers, Phillip, Otto, Gottfried and Benjamin, all Streeter; three sisters, Irene Gienger, Sacramento, Pauline Landowski, St. Cloud, Minn., and Evangiline Nenow, Jamestown; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Ephriam, Alfred and Verner; and an infant sister, Leona.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Hays, with the Rev. William C. Miller officiating.

Carolina Gall was born Oct. 1, 1903, near Wishek, N.D., where she grew up. On Nov. 6, 1924, she married Benhard Radke in Napoleon, N.D. They farmed near Fredonia. In 1934, they moved to Fredonia where she worked in the Economy Store. He died in 1978. In 1983, she moved to Kulm, N.D. She is survived by a son, Clifford (Florence), Fredonia; a sister, Bertha Banek, Wishek; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one stepgrandchild ...

Viola Raile, 78, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Medcenter One, Bismarck, N.D.

Viola Meidinger was born May 23, 1923, on a farm north of Zeeland, N.D., the daughter of Albert C. and Emma (Schwindt) Meidinger. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school near Zeeland. She married Alvin Raile on Aug. 27, 1948, at Mound City, S.D. They then moved to Wishek. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. She was a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed doing crafts and cross-stitching.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, James A. and Jacob (Linda), both Mandan, N.D.; two daughters, Doris (Larry) Strommen, Dickinson, N.D., and Betty (Wayne) Sailer, Mandan; five brothers, Wilbert (Landina), Marvin (Deloris), and Wilmer (Wilma), all Wishek, and Edgar (Phyliss) and Ellon (Rachel), both Zeeland; six sisters, Gertrude Kaseman, Bismarck, Lorraine (Adam) Kaseman, Gackle, N.D., Arlene (Melvin) Kaseman, Bowdie, S.D., and LuElla (Delton) Davis, Alma (Walter) Rath and Alvina (Herman) Sayler, all Wishek; seven grandchildren, a stepgrandson and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Della Mae Ramstad, 81, Plymouth, Minn., formerly of Jamestown, died Oct. 17, 2003.

Della Mae Fode was the daughter of Oscar W. and Amelia Z. Fode. She was a 1943 graduate of the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, where she established the annual Oscar and Amelia Fode Memorial Law Lecture. She pursued her master’s degree at the University of Chicago. She was the former president of O.W. Fode Companies of Jamestown, where she lived until moving to Plymouth in 1980 to work as a volunteer in her son’s first campaign for the Minnesota Senate. She married Marvin J. Ramstad. She was a member of numerous organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Jamestown, and the Wayzata Area Chambers of Commerce, American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women’s Club, UND Alumni Association, Presbyterian Church, Republican Party and Delta Gamma Sorority.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Jim; a daughter, Sheryl Ramstad; a brother-in-law, A. William (Winifred) Ramstad, Seattle, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wayzata (Minn.) Community Church.

Della Mae Ramstad, mother of U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad, R-Minn., and Minnesota Tax Court Judge Sheryl Ramstad, died Friday from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was 81.

When her son ran for his first Minnesota Senate seat in Plymouth in western Hennepin County in 1980, she knocked on 8,612 doors to get the word out.

"She was a tireless and dedicated campaigner," Jim Ramstad said Saturday. "She was a champion of the underdog and an advocate for public service, and she instilled that in her children."

Growing up in Jamestown, N.D., Jim Ramstad said, dinners for the family were always later on Christmas and Thanksgiving because his mother was cooking and delivering food to others. On Saturdays she volunteered to help disabled children at a nearby school.

She also was president of the O.W. Fode Companies of Jamestown, a conglomeration of five companies related to the automobile and farm machinery industry that was founded by her parents, Oscar and Amelia Fode. She established the annual Oscar and Amelia Fode Memorial Law Lecture at the University of North Dakota.

A 1943 graduate of the university, she needed only to complete her thesis to obtain her master's degree from the University of Chicago when she met and married her husband of 58 years, Marvin Ramstad, who survives her.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star, the Jamestown and Wayzata Area chambers of commerce, the American Association of University Women, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the University of North Dakota Alumni Association.

Besides her husband and two children, Ramstad's survivors include three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wayzata Community Church, 125 E. Wayzata Blvd. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata.

Clara Ranta, 87, Minot, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at her home.

Clara Pauline Mayer was born April 28, 1920, in Stutsman County, North Dakota, on the family homestead 13 miles south of Medina, N.D., the daughter of Emil and Elizabeth Mayer. She grew up and attended school in Stutsman County. She married Ernest Ranta of Virginia, Minn., on Feb. 17, 1940, in Nashwauk, Minn. They moved to the Grand Rapids, Minn., area where they lived until 1974. They then moved to Shawnee, Okla. They returned to Medina in 1980. They fostered 136 children in three states. She retired in 2004. In August 2006, she moved to Minot. She was a member of the Minot lst Church of the Nazarene, Minot, and a past member of United Methodist Church, Medina. She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing.

She is survived by a son, Denny (Barbara), Plainview, Minn.; two daughters, Janice J. (Tom) DeVilbiss, Minot, and Brenda (Jim) Ruud, Anchorage, Alaska; four brothers, Paul and Willie (Erma), both Jamestown, Eddie (Doris), Streeter, N.D., and Gene (Ramona) Medina; two sisters, Lorine (Walter) Ruff, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Martha Ruff, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, her parents, and a sister-in-law.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, United Methodist Church, Medina, with the Rev. Darwin Kopfman officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Bertha L. Rasch, 87, Ellendale, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.

Bertha Louise Mammel was born Sept. 25, 1911, near Merricourt, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On May 9, 1939, she married Bernhard Rasch in Merricourt. They lived in Fredonia, N.D., until they moved to Kulm, N.D., in 1948. She retired from Kulm Drug in 1976. They moved to Ellendale in 1979. He died in 1984. She entered the care center in 1989.

She is survived by a daughter, Joanne (Del) Herrmann, Fargo; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. ...

Darrel Dean Rath, 44, Ashley, N.D., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Rath was born July 9, 1962, at Gackle, N.D., the son of Paul and Arleen (Arnold) Rath. He grew up on the family homestead nine miles north of Lehr, N.D. He graduated from Lehr High School in 1983. He attended North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, and studied parts training. He returned to Lehr and worked as a farm hand. He worked at Wil-Rich, Ashley, as a fabricator from 1988 to 2000. He worked for Aerial Contractors laying fiber optic cable from 2000-2004. He then worked for Fargo Assembly, Lehr, as an assembler. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lehr. He enjoyed ice fishing.

He is survived by his mother and a brother, Dennis, Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with the Rev. Jeff Giles officiating.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, and one hour before the service at the church.

Funeral services for Erna Rath, 85, Wishek, were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with Rev. Brandon Woodruff officiating. She died Dec. 4 at Wishek Home for the Aged.

Erna Rudolf, daughter of August and Maria (Meidinger) Rudolf, was born April 18, 1919 in rural Wishek. She grew up there and attended Rosenfield School District until the 8th grade. She later attended Wishek High School, graduating in 1937. She taught in a rural school for three years, near Wishek.

Erna married Edward Rath on March 31, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church, southwest of Wishek. They made their home and farmed in the Wishek area. Erna also worked at the Wishek Nursing Home for many years before retiring. In 1979, they moved into Wishek. Edward died on Feb. 5, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Kim Rath of Wishek and Jayson (Diane) Rath of Bismarck; three daughters, Patricia (Gary) Ritter of Bismarck, Karen (Neal) Nelson, of Minot and Deborah (Marvin) Boser of West Fargo; three brothers, Alvin Rudolf, Paul (Estella) Rudolf and Helmuth (Priscilla) Rudolf, all of Wishek; four sisters, Alma Dorr and Lorrene Hochhalter, both of Wishek, Luella Vilhauer of Vancouver, Wash. and Mabel (Richard) Justice, of Alexandria, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Nelson, Charlotte Reuppel, Kathy Mahoney, Bridgette Readel, Nathan Rath, Jeanne Frenzel, Robert Boser, Kary Lindgren, Timothy Rath, John Rath, Brandi Trauman, and Amber Trauman; and five great-grandchildren, Alexander Reuppel, Dylan Mahoney, Cody Readel, Jessica Readel and one to arrive very soon.

Erna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister.

Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Wishek was in charge of arrangements.

MR. AND MRS. EDWARD RATH

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rath live on a farm seven miles west and one south of Wishek. Edward is the son of the late George Rath and his wife, Dorothea (Hoffer) Rath. He was born and raised on the farm they reside on. Mrs. Rath is the former Erna Rudolf, daughter of the late A. L. Rudolf and his wife, Maria Rudolf, nee Meidinger, who resides in the Wishek Retirement Home. Mr. and Mrs. Rath are engaged in grain and livestock production.

They have five children and three grandchildren: Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Ritter, who is a registered nurse and lives in Bismarck with her husband and child; Mrs. Neal (Karen) Nelson, an L.P.N. and living in Minot with her husband and two children; Deborah, a teacher of fourth graders in Harvey, North Dakota; Kim engaged in farming with his father, and Jayson who attends Wishek Public School.

Ida Rath, 90, Napoleon, N.D., formerly Jamestown, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Wishek (N.D.) Community Hospital.

Ida M. Rivinius was born Sept. 29, 1912, near Streeter, N.D., the daughter of William and Katherina (Wolff) Rivinius. She grew up and attended the local rural school, receiving her elementary education in the Streeter area. She helped on the family farm. She married John C. Rath on March 22, 1936, at Streeter. They lived on a farm northeast of Gackle. In 1965 they moved to Jamestown, where they continued to farm with their son, Roger. He died on Feb. 9, 1989. In 2000 she lived with her son. In 2001 she entered the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by a son, Roger D. (Delores), Cleveland, N.D.; a brother, Melvin (Joyce), Fargo, N.D.; four sisters, Pauline (Albert) Frey, Mesa, Ariz., Olga Buck, Fargo, Irene Opp, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Alice (David) Schmidt, Jamestown; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a special nephew, Roderick Dewald, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Martha, Erma and Frieda; a brother, Henry; and a grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Donald C. Crippen officiating.

Ida Ratts, 87, Jamestown, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Central  Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Ida Reich was born Feb. 22, 1918, near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Adolph and Margaret (Fischer) Reich.  She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew up in the area.  She married Rudolph Schuldheisz in 1938 at Hardin, Mont. They returned to North Dakota and farmed near Eldridge, N.D., and later in the Sydney-Montpelier, N.D., area. In 1957 they moved to Jamestown where she worked at Jamestown Hospital as a nurse’s aide. He died in 1971. She worked at the hospital until she retired in 1979. She married Harold Ratts on July 28, 1979, at Montpelier. They lived in Jamestown.  She entered Central Dakota Village in 2004. She was a member of Free Methodist Church, Atonement Lutheran Church, the Gideon Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.  She enjoyed gardening, oil painting and dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; three sons, Eugene (Patty) Schuldheisz and Curtis Schuldheisz, both Jamestown, and Lester (Jean) Schuldheisz, Carrington, N.D.; two daughters, Marlys (Ernie), Hollingsworth, Everett, Wash., and Sharon Lutman, Jamestown; five stepsons, Donald (Jean) Ratts, Montpelier, Robert (Terri) Ratts, Spokane, Wash., Francis Ratts, Everett, Gary Ratts, Slidell, La., and Jerry (Kuawana) Ratts, Newton Corners, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Carol (Gary) Erickson, Jamestown, and Audrey Otto, Pottsville, Ark.; a sister, Gladys Reich, Jamestown; 19 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; a daughter, Arlene Wenzel; five sisters; and three grandchildren.

Clifford E. Rau, 69, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Innovis Health, Fargo, after suffering cardiac arrest on Tuesday, April 17.

Mr. Rau was born Sept. 9, 1931, at Ashley, N.D., the son of Edward and Emma (Klein) Rau. He grew up and attended school in Ashley, where he was active in sports, music and church. He married Geraldine Hoffman in Ashley on July 26, 1950. He attended Jamestown College, graduating in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in business education and physical education. In 1961 he received his master of arts degree in elementary and secondary school administration from Northern State College, Aberdeen, S.D. He taught business at McHenry High School from 1953-56 and served as principal, basketball and baseball coach. In 1956, he began teaching business, physical education and coaching at Hankinson, N.D.. He served as principal from 1957-61, when he became superintendent, a position he held until he retired in 1990. They then moved to Fargo. He worked part time for the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau. He worked with summer youth and swimming programs, played Legion, college and amateur baseball, and coached baseball and FM football teams. He was a charter member of the Lions Club, golf club, and Calvary Lutheran Church in Hankinson. He held district, regional and state offices in the North Dakota Association of School Administrators. In 1966 he received a Distinguished Service Award by the Wahpeton, N.D., Jaycees. He was active in Hope Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was an avid Spartan, Bison, and Redhawks fan.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Keith (Debbie), Fargo; a brother, Myron, (Jerri) Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, June Rau Mueller, St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Randy.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, Fargo. Arrangements by Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
Burial: Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley, at a later date.

Dwight Rau, 84, Napoleon, N.D., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, northeast of Napoleon due to an automobile accident.

Mr. Rau was born Dec. 25, 1916, at the family farm home northeast of Napoleon, the son of Fred and Magdalena (Raile) Rau. He attended the local rural school, where he received his elementary education and grew up in the vicinity. He married Hertha Veil Oct. 20, 1955, near Gackle, N.D. They lived and farmed on the family farm northeast of Napoleon. She died Nov. 5, 1993. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Streeter, N.D. He enjoyed flying, hunting, and playing the banjo, accordion and piano. In his retirement years he enjoyed running summer pasture cattle, yard work and driving around the country side.

He is survived by a son, Myron, Napoleon; four daughters, Lois (Kenneth) Ruff, Streeter, Marjorie (Merlyn) DeRider, Clovis, Minn., Norma (Nathan) Hochhalter, Cleveland, N.D., and Debra Rau (Ted Schneider), Napoleon; a sister, Clara Weixel, Bismarck; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, James; three brothers; and three sisters.

Edwin Rau, 87, Jamestown, died Monday Aug. 13, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Rau was born Feb. 5, 1920, on the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D., in Logan County, the son of Jacob and Katherina (Hemmerich) Rau. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and helped on the family farm. He married Rose Schumacher on May 31, 1940, at Napoleon, N.D. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Streeter in the flats. They moved into Streeter in 1950, where they owned and operated the cafe/recreation hall and a truck line. They then moved to Jamestown, where he worked at the North Dakota State Hospital and later for Quality Lumber. He went to work for Wilbert Vault Co. in Jamestown, until transferring to the Fargo office. He retired in 1985. He returned to Jamestown where he drove a bus for Central Dakota Village. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Eagles Club and the Shades of Blue Band, all Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Donald, Jamestown; a daughter, Arlene (Al) Weidner, Halliday, N.D; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and four step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, three brothers, and a son-in-law.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Doug Opp officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Friday at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Elsie Rau, 94, Steele, N.D., died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele.

Elsie [Eleonora] Naasz was born Dec. 21, 1912, in Java, S.D., the daughter of John and Christen (Helm) Naasz. She attended school in Java until she moved to Napoleon, N.D. She worked at the Sibley Hotel, Dawson, N.D., at age 16. She married Richard Schauer on Nov. 22, 1935. They lived on a farm south of Dawson. They moved to Dawson in 1949, where she worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. He died in 1979. She married Henry Rau on Sept. 2, 1982. He died in 2001. She moved to Golden Manor Nursing Home in September 2005. She enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Irvin) Wallner, Tappen, N.D.; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice (Pfaff) Schauer; a brother, Ervin Naasz; a sister, Lucinda (Allen) Propp, Worden, Mont.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Al Schauer; a granddaughter, Paulette Schauer; her parents; two sisters; and a brother.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Lutheran Church, Dawson, with the Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele.
Visitation: noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.

Harry A. Rau, 75 Bismarck, died Monday, April 29, 1996, in Bismarck.

Mr. Rau was born October 14, 1920, in Logan County, the son of Fred and Magdalena (Raile) Rau. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and helped on the family farm. He married Eldena Becker February 26, 1945, at Streeter. He was drafted into the U. S. Army March 12, 1945. He served in the European Theater as a rifleman until his discharge July 10, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. In 1950, they moved to the Henry Wold farm southwest of Streeter, where they resided until 1991, when they moved to Bismarck. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bismarck, the Melvin E. Bender Post No. 265, served as Legion post commander from 1970-71, served on the Logan Country Farm Bureau Board for six years at Napoleon, and the Cokato Township School Board for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife: a daughter Sheila Rae (Harold) Zimmerman, Bismarck; a son, Michael (Emma) Woodland Hills, Calif.; two brothers,. Dwight, Napoleon, and Norman, Gackle; four sisters, Clara Weixel, and Alice (Art) Wentz, all Bismarck, Verna (Adam) Kirschenmann, Jamestown, and Elsie Rau, Napoleon; a sister-in-law, Lenora Rau, Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a brother, Reuben.

Services: 2 p. m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev., Jerry Wiekre officiating. Arrangements with Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p. m, Wednesday, Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Burial: Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan

Mrs. John Rau Funeral Services Set for Friday

Funeral services will be held Friday [Dec 4] at 2:00 p.m. from the Napoleon EUB Church for Mrs. John Rau who died Dec. 1 at the Bismarck Hospital after a lingering illness.

Katherina Rau was born Aug 22, 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Raile at Eureka, S.D. She was married to John Rau in 1907 and they lived in Eureka for a year and then moved to Greenway, S.D., and lived there until 1913, at which time they moved to a farm 10 miles northeast of Napoleon. They retired in 194_ and moved to Napoleon.

She survived by her husband, three sons, Milton, Eugene, and Walter Rau, all of Napoleon; five daughters, Mrs. Ruben Wentz [Helen] and Mrs. Tony Retzlaff [Agnes], Napoleon; Mrs. Roland Grenz [Irene] and Mrs. Walter Becker [Laura] of Bismarck; and Mrs. Milbert Kemmet [Alvina], Dawson.

Also surviving are three sisters and brothers, Mrs. Carl Horst, Lodi, Calif.; Mrs Fred Rau, Napoleon, and George Raile, Eureka, S.D. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

Interment will be at Napoleon City Cemetery with Nickisch Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Norman Rau, 77, Gackle, died Friday, Aug. 9, 1996, in Med Center One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Mr. Rau was born Feb. 8, 1919, near Streeter, N.D. He graduated from the Devils Lake (N.D.) School of the Deaf. He worked for the Todd Ship Yard, Seattle, for a short time, then returned to the family farm near Streeter. He later entered the Gackle Care Center.

He is survived by a brother, Dwight, Napoleon, N.D.; three sisters, Clara Weixel, Bismarck, Verna (Adam) Kirschenmann, Jamestown, N.D., and Alice (Art) Wentz, Gackle. ...

Robert F. Regan, 77, of Thompson, N.D., died Tuesday, June 20, 2005, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.

Mr. Regan was born June 29, 1927, in Lander, Wyo., the son of Joseph and Thelma (Goodrich) Regan.  He grew up and attended school in Lander.  At age 15, he left home to work the oil fields to help his parents financially. He married Mary Lou Neu of Powell, Wyo., on June 18, 1946, in Columbus, Mont. He served in the Army Air Corps during the occupation of Japan following World War II. They moved to Williston, N.D., during the oil boom of the 1950’s.  He was a gifted wood craftsman and built many homes, farm and commercial buildings around the state. They lived in Parshall, Minot, McClusky, and Gackle, all N.D. They retired in Thompson in 1995.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Kent, Thompson; a daughter, Kathleen (Gordon) Heller, Gackle; a brother, Ted, Colorado; three sisters, Charlotte Alexander and Jane Packard, both Wyoming, and Louise Melbihess, California; and five grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Grace Baptist Church, Grand Forks.
Prayer service: 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. 
Arrangements by Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and one hour before the service at the church.

HEART AILMENT FATAL TO JANITOR
Andrew Reich, 62, Stricken Suddenly

Andrew Reich, 62, janitor of Eastern Montana College of Education, died at his home, 318 South Thirty-eighth street, Thursday at 12:30 a.m. following a heart attack. He had not been ill.

He was born Aug. 6, 1888, in south Russia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Reich and came to this country in 1910. On Feb. 4, 1919, he married Jacobina Rueb at Wishek, N.D., where they lived until coming to Billings in 1942. He had worked here during beet harvesting seasons since 1926.

Mr. Reich was a member of Peace Lutheran church.

Surviving are the widow; eight sons, Reinhold of 206 South Twenty-fourth street, Philip of 635 Miles avenue, Emil of 407 South Twenty-ninth street, and August, Andreas, Milton, Walter and Rubin Reich, at home; six daughters, Mrs. Conrad Johnannes of Worden, Mrs. Thomas Byrd of 313 1/2 North Thirty-third street, Mrs. John Robertus of Laurel, Mrs. George Keller of 924 North Twenty-ninth street, and Katherine and Alvina, at home.

Four brothers, Philip of Biola, Cal., August of Medina, N.D., Jacob of Cleveland, N.D., and Adam Reich of Wishek; a stepbrother, Jacob Schatz of Linton, N.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Wolfert of Jamestown, N.D., and Mrs. George Becker and Mrs. Calvin Meidinger of Streeter, N.D., and seven grandchildren.

Edna Reich, 75, Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Miss Reich was born May 21, 1922, near Gackle, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. In 1939, she moved to Jamestown where she worked at various restaurants and hotels. She entered Hi Acres Manor in Jamestown in 1974. In 1981, she moved to her sister Gladys' home in Jamestown and in 1989 she entered Central Dakota Village.

She is survived by two sisters, Ida (Harold) Ratts, Gladys Reich, both Jamestown. ...

Harley Reich, 71, Cleveland, N.D., died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Mr. Reich was born April 17, 1934, in Fargo, the son of Jacob and Marie (Ruff) Reich. He grew up in the Medina, N.D., area where he received his elementary education. He received his GED in 1990. The family moved to Cleveland in 1949.  He worked for Cleveland Farmers Elevator from 1953 to 1979.  He served in the U.S. Army from October 1957 to October 1959. He then continued his employment at the elevator.  He farmed from the early 1960s until 1999. He remained active in various farm activities.  He married Carol DeKrey Unruh on April 22, 1966, at the DeKrey family home near Pettibone, N.D. In 1982, he became substitute mail carrier for the Cleveland area. He retired in October 2004 due to ill health. He was a lifetime member of Elks 995, Jamestown, and a former board member of Prairie Coop Elevator, Cleveland.  He was a member of United Methodist Church, Cleveland, and the American Legion, Gackle, N.D. He enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Pamela (Kris) Bettenhausen, West Fargo, N.D.; two sons, Gregory (Helen) Unruh, Boise, Idaho, and Michael (Cherish) Reich, Fargo; his mother, Jamestown; two brothers, Vernon (Norma Jean), Jamestown and Elmer (Linda), Grants Pass, Ore.; two sisters, Adeline (Jim) Buchanan, McAllen, Texas, and Naomi Sweningson, Bismarck, N.D.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Lorraine Gross and Inez Krause.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Paul ’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Chaplain David Fisher officiating.

Funeral service for John J. Reich, 85, of Ashley were Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Ashley Baptist Church.

The Rev. Darwin Stahl officiated. Burial was at Ashley City Cemetery.

He died August 2, 2006 at his home.

John J. Reich, son of John G. and Lydia (Haux) Reich was born July 11, 1921 on the family homestead, 19 miles northeast of Ashley near Fredonia, ND. He attended country school and graduated from Ashley High School with the Class of 1940. He taught school in a one room school house in Rosenthal Township in McIntosh County, ND. He also worked as a McIntosh County Assessor.

He was united in marriage to Emma Viola Reuther on July 14, 1946 in Peace Lutheran Church, rural Ashley. They made their home on the Reich homestead raising livestock and grain. They retired from farming in 1977 and moved into Ashley. He then part-owned and operated the R&W Parts business for a number of years. His wife died November 19, 2002.

John enjoyed fishing, cards, word puzzles and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Ashley Baptist Church and a past member of Berlin Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent. He was also a member of the Ashley rural fire department serving as treasurer for 25 years and the Ashley Senior Citizens.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Johnson of Shakopee, MN, Judy (Clarence) Thiery and Maxine (Ben) Hulsing, both of Ashley and Joan (Kevin) Peterson of Plainfield, IL, one brother, Ben (Elfreida) Reich of Roseville, MN, three sisters, Viola (Edwin) Schlenker of Yakima, WA, Delores Wockenfuss of Aberdeen and Estella (Bill) Merkel of Eureka, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. His parents, wife, one brother, Albert, three sisters, Claudina Hoffman Strobel, Helen Deibert and Edna Reuther and two infant sisters, Hulda and Lydia preceded him in death.

Casketbearers were James Thiery, Dean Thiery, Kyle Thiery, Kelly Hulsing, Tyler Johnson, Jordan Thiery, John Dahlquist, Mat Claeys and Mike Hakanson.

The organist was Sherry Stroh. Special music by Lana Christmann and Ben Hulsing and a poem written by Terri Dahlquist was read.

The family prefers memorials be sent to Ashley Medical Center, PO Box 450, Ashley, ND 58413-0450.

Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley was entrusted with the arrangements.

Katie Lang was born April 29, 1895, in South Russia.  She came with her family to the United States in 1903 and settled near Gackle, N.D. She married August Reich in March 1919 in Jamestown.  They farmed near Medina until his death in 1953.  After his death she moved into Medina.

She is survived by two daughters; Esther Hofmann, Medina; and Inez (Mrs. Harry) Ruff, Streeter, N.D.; two sisters, Martha Hammerstrom, Jamestown; and Leah Schweigert, Gackle; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Rose Reich, 88, Great Falls, MT, formerly of Medina, ND went to be with the Lord, Friday December 15, 2006 at Great Falls, MT.

Rose Suko was born March 18, 1918 in Alexander Township, NE of Gackle, ND, the daughter of Reinholdt and Christina (Obenauer) Suko. She was educated in a rural school, Alexander School District #47. Rose was always proud that she completed 8 grades in 7 years.

Rose stayed home to help her parents until she was 18 years old. Then along with her siblings, Louise and Martin, they journeyed to Portland, OR. While in Portland, Rose attended the Artistic Beauty Institute. Also while in Portland she corresponded with Emil Reich, who was in the US Army, and stationed in the SW Pacific.

Emil returned in the fall of 1945 and they were married on December 7, 1945 in Jamestown, ND. Rose’s dear brother Martin and his wife Helen were their attendants. A winter storm brewed and the four of them spent the night sharing a hotel room. Rose and Emil farmed and raised their 6 children SE of Medina. Emil passed away on March 28, 1969. Rose then moved with her children into Medina. She was employed at various places in Jamestown. Because of declining health, Rose moved to Hazen in the fall of 2001 to be near her children, Ron and LuAnn. Her health declined farther and Rose moved to Great Falls, MT in November of 2004 where she was honored and lovingly cared for by her daughter Alice and Jonathan Martin, and granddaughters, Nicole, Ursula and Amanda. Rose joined her heavenly father in the presence of her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Jonathan.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Medina, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Rose is survived by 6 children, Delores (Dennis) Lowderback, Rochester, IN, Alice (Jonathan) Martin, Great Falls, MT, Irene (Timothy) Martin, Kalispell, MT, Alvin (Becky) Reich, Medina, ND, Ron (LuAnn) Reich, Hazen, ND, David (Ann) Reich, Bismarck, ND, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Martin Suko and Edwin Suko, both of Jamestown, ND, 2 sisters, Dorothy Grenz, Jamestown, ND, and Ruth Gomke, Cleveland, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil, 1 grandson Wade Bryant, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Sam and Gotthilf, 4 sisters, Amelia, Bertha, Louise, and Minnie.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday December 20, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Medina, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

The interment will be made in the Medina Cemetery at Medina, ND.

Mrs. Katherine Reinhardt passed away at the McCone Co. Hospital in Circle, Mont. Aug. 27, 1967. She was born April 28, 1884, at Rohrbach, South Russia, came to the U.S. with her parents to North Dakota. She married John Reinhardt March 25, 1909, at Gackle, N.D., where they lived until 1929 when they moved to the Circle Community and farmed 13 miles SW of Circle until 1946. Mr. John Reinhardt died in 1951.

Survivors are: 6 sons, Clarence and Reuben Reinhardt of Circle, Emil of Sacramento, Cal, Lloyd of Calif, John of Lodi, Calif, and Alex of Hesperia, Calif. Also 6 daughters: Mrs Anna Franson of Minneapolis, Mrs Christina Kwasney and Mrs Alvina Stephenson of Circle, Mont, Mrs Irene Cox of Seattle, Wash, Mrs Katherine Hall of Aberdeen, SD, and Mrs Pauline Wanke of Minneapolis. Edith Reinke, 99, Jamestown, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Edith Elhard was born July 7, 1903, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Schue) Elhard. Her mother died when she was young, so she was raised by Elizabeth and Jacob Schlenker on a farm near Alfred, N.D. She attended country school in the Alfred area. She married William H. Reinke on June 3, 1923, at a farm home near Alfred. They farmed in Cusator Township, near Alfred. They retired in 1970 and moved to Jamestown. He died Sept. 19, 1972. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Bill (Mildred), Billings, Mont.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Reinke, Jamestown; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Clifford and one in infancy; a brother, two sisters and a grandson.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Doug Opp officiating.

Emil R. "Rooster" Reister died Sept. 20 of age-related causes. He was 89.

Reister was born Jan. 24, 1913, in Gackle, N.D., to Karl and Amelia Otto Reister. He married Lilla Larson in Jamestown, N.D., on Aug. 3, 1938. He was a 51-year resident of Lane County.

He was a member of the Rodeo Hall of Fame and a life member of both the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Rodeo Historical Society. He worked as a dispatch clerk for Southern Pacific Railroad and also served with the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Jefferson and Robert of Layton, Utah; five daughters, Ellen Parson of La Pine, Charlotte Hunt of Sisters and Emily Rear, Judy Marsh and Cheryl Halleman, all of Eugene; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Albert C. Remboldt, 80, Gackle, N.D., will be there a 2 Friday in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He died Tuesday. [July 8, 1986]

Mr. Remboldt was born Dec. 29, 1905, near Gackle. He grew up and attended school there. He married Hulda Sprecher Jan. 5, 1931, at Jamestown, N.D. They farmed near Gackle until 1937, when they moved into town. He operated several businesses including trucking grain and cattle and operating a grocery store and café. He retired in 1955, and entered the Hi-Acres Manor at Gackle in July.

He is survived by his wife, three brothers and a sister, Edward, Ellendale, N.D.; Oscar, Gackle; Rueben, Boring, Ore.; and Mrs. Emil (Ruth) Metz, Morgan, Utah. (Haut)

Alida Zenker was born January 29, 1911 near Gackle, the daughter of Wilhelm Sr. and Fredericka (Klipfel) Zenker. She received her elementary education in the local rural school. She and Emanuel (Pete) Remboldt were married June 1, 1930 at the Neudorf Lutheran Church, SW of Gackle. They farmed NW of Gackle until 1940 when they bought the International Implement Dealership from George Hummel.

Archie Remboldt, 92, Stockton, Calif., died Sunday, May 23, 2004.

Mr. Remboldt was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Conrad and Elizabeth Remboldt. He married Irene Clark on Feb. 7, 1936, in Bismarck, N.D. They moved to Jamestown in 1942, where they lived until moving to California in 1978 after he retired. He was a plumbing supply salesman for many years. She died Jan. 24, 2003. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church, Lodi, Calif.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Tom) Elhard, Galt, Calif. and Sandi (Bob) Peterson, Lodi; two sons, Paul, Vergas, Minn., and David (Kathy), Mandan, N.D.; a sister, Christina DeWitt, Gackle; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and six sisters.

Mr. Remboldt was born July 3, 1911, near Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. He married Tillie Hehn Oct. 29, 1932, near Gackle. They farmed near Gackle until 1980 and in 1985 moved to Jamestown. He served as Griffin Township assessor for several years.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Russel, Gackle; two brothers, Emil, Jamestown; and Ervin, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Beglau, Gackle; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. (Haut, Jamestown)

Autumn Lynn Remboldt, infant daughter of Corey and Samantha Remboldt of Bismarck, N.D., was born and died Friday, May 4, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.

Autumn is survived by her parents; her grandparents, Russell Jr. and Teresa Remboldt, Gackle, N.D., and Paul and Jodelle Gefroh, Cleveland, N.D.; and her great-grandparents, Russell Remboldt Sr. and Buzz and Marilyn Zimmerman, Cheryl and Jack Volk, Teresa Gefroh, Tillie Remboldt, and Jim Richter.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Joe Gefroh and Don Daugherty, and a great-grandmother, Karen Richter.

Graveside service: 4 p.m. today, SDA Cemetery northeast of Gackle, with the Rev. Al Bitz officiating.

Carol J. Remboldt, 66, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, in Jamestown (N.D.) Hospital.

Carol Olson was born March 3, 1931, in Climax, Minn., where she grew up, attended school and worked on her family's farm. She worked at Northport Super Valu, Fargo, from 1951 to 1961. On June 25, 1961, she married Roger Remboldt in Climax. They farmed near Gackle and Medina, N.D., until 1984. She worked for Gackle Care Center and Gackle Public School until retiring in 1988.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Terry, Tom, both Gackle, Tim, Jamestown; a daughter, Tammy Remboldt, Gackle; a brother, Myron, Park Rapids, Minn.; and three sisters, Delia (Melvin) Gunlikson, Ft. Collins, Colo, Darlene ...

Mrs. C. Remboldt, Gackle Pioneer, Dies at Age 80

Mrs. Christ Remboldt, 80, longtime resident of Gackle Community, died late Monday night at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown where she had been a patient for the past three months.

Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Baptist Church in Gackle with Elder D. E. Howe and Elder Albert Schimke of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Burial was in the Gackle Cemetery.

Mrs Arthur Brandenburg played a program of organ music. A quartet, Robert Liebelt, Arthur Heinrich, Arthur Reile, and Lawrence Schroeder sang with Miss Cynthia Heinrich playing the accompaniment. Ushers were Ezra Hehn and Fred Schmierer.

Pallbearers were August F. Lang, Rudolph Lang, Fred Schroeder, Gus Schmierer, Emil Remboldt, and Conrad Rivinius.

Mrs. Remboldt the former Caroline Lang was born Jan 28, 1885, at Kassel, South Russia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Lang. She came with her parents to the United States in 1900 and the family settled at Tripp, S. D., moving later that year to North Dakota where they established their home on a farm nine miles northeast of Gackle in Stutsman County.

On March 19, 1905, she was united in marriage to Christ Remboldt on the family farm and they homesteaded four miles northeast of Gackle. They farmed northeast of Gackle until their retirement in 1938 when they moved into Gackle to make their home. Mr. and Mrs Remboldt celebrated their 60^th wedding anniversary in the spring of 1965. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gackle.

Surviving are her husband, four sons, Albert C. Remboldt, Edward C. Remboldt, and Oscar Remboldt, all of Gackle and Rueben C. Remboldt, Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Emil Netz (Ruth), Morgan, Utah, 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Solomon Sperle, San Mateo, Calif. Haut Funeral Home.

Relatives attending from out of state were Rueben C. Remboldt, Spokane, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Netz and Bobby Netz, Morgan Utah.

Christine Remboldt, 86, Fargo, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at her home.

Christine Dorr was born Jan. 8, 1914, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Christina (Kranzler) Dorr. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the vicinity, where she helped on the family farm. She married Oscar Remboldt June 1, 1933, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived and farmed two miles east of Gackle, N.D. In 1948 they moved to Gackle, where they went into partnership with Ted Speidel and opened the Gackle Packing Plant. They operated the packing plant until they retired in 1983. In October 1990 they moved to Fargo. He died Jan. 20, 1991. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Fargo, and was active in church activities.

She is survived by two daughters, Roseta (Herman) Gold, Napa, Calif., and Suzetta Remboldt, Fargo; a son, Delano "Bud" (Carole), Edina, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Remboldt, Bismarck; a brother, Raymond (Mary), Worland, Wyo.; two sisters, Marie Meidinger, Jamestown, and Alice Greenfield, Basin, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Dwight "Chuck"; and an infant daughter, Kristie.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Marty Thurber officiating.

Clayton Remboldt, 69, Gackle, ND died Friday September 28, 2007 at his home in Gackle.

Clayton Remboldt was born August 15, 1938 in Griffin township in Stutsman County, NW of Gackle, ND, the son of Edward Remboldt and Ida (Hehn) Remboldt. He attended Gackle Public School where he received his education.

He and Twila Dockter were married July 16, 1960 at Streeter, ND. They made their home in Streeter until 1962 then they moved to Lincoln, NE. In 1964 they returned to Streeter where they owned and operated the Streeter Bar. In 1966 they moved to Gackle where he was employed at Heier Implement and Gackle Meat Locker

In 1970 he started employment with the Cooperative Elevator Company of Gackle and in 1977 he became manager, and remained there until his retirement in 2001. The elevator is now known as the Gackle Grain Coop after the consolidation of the two elevators in 1990. Following the death of his wife April 13, 2006 he has continued to reside in Gackle.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND.

Surviving are his 3 sons, Scott Remboldt, Fairbanks, AK, Cordell (Zina) Remboldt, Bismarck, ND, Chad Remboldt, Lenexa, KS, 2 grandchildren, Cody and Allison, Bismarck, ND, his mother-in-law, Florence Dockter-Heier, Gackle, ND, 1 brother, Clyde C. (Alice) Remboldt, Jamestown, ND, 2 sisters, Arlene (Lloyd) Veil, Streeter, ND, Twilla (Dwight) Wiest, Gackle, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 1 brother Kevin.

The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday October 6, 2007 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Russ Pollock, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND.

Mr. Remboldt, known as Ron was born June 23, 1940, in Jamestown. He attended schools in Gackle, where he graduated from high school in 1959. He attended Valley City (N.D.) State College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964 and moved to California, where he worked as an independent truck driver. In 1984, he returned to Jamestown, where he was employed by Mayer Truck Line Inc. He married Leah Clark April 4, 1987, in Jamestown, and they lived in Spirtwood Lake.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Dawn Silvernail, Hubbardston, Mich.; his parents, Arthur and Tillie Remboldt, Jamestown; a brother, Russel, Gackle; and one grandchild. (Haut, Jamestown)

Mr. Remboldt, known as Chuck, was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Jamestown, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Gackle, where he graduated from high school in 1961. He married Sheila Koehmstedt Aug. 6, 1976, in Fargo. He received his bachelor's degree in nursing in 1991 from North Dakota State University.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Christian, at home; a daughter, Christina, at home; his mother, Christina Remboldt, Fargo; a brother, Delano (Bud), Edina, Minn.; two sisters, Rosetta Gold, Napa, Calif., and Suzetta Remboldt, Fargo.

Edward C. Remboldt, 95, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Remboldt was born April 5, 1907, in Griffin Township north of Gackle, N.D., the son of Christ and Carolina (Lang) Remboldt. He attended the local rural school in Alexander Township. He married Ida Hehn on Sept. 18, 1936, in Gackle. They farmed one and a half miles north of Gackle. She died Jan. 1, 1959. He moved to Gackle in 1966 and continued to farm and also worked at Gackle Locker. In 1989 he moved into the Gackle Care Center. In 1998 he entered Central Dakota Village, where he lived for a short time before entering Hi-Acres Manor. He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, served as deacon at the church and served on the township board.

He is survived by two sons, Clyde (Alice), Jamestown, and Clayton (Twila), Gackle; two daughters, Arlene (Lloyd) Veil, Streeter, N.D., and Twilla (Dwight) Weist, Gackle; a sister, Ruth Netz, Morgan, Utah; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Kevin; and three brothers, Albert, Oscar and Reuben.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Grace Baptist Church, Gackle.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.

Mr. Remboldt, known as Mike, was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Streeter, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1930. He attended the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, and Interstate Business College, Fargo. He then worked for a short time for the Gamble-Robinson Co., Fargo. Erwin J. Remboldt, 88, Hanford, Calif., formerly of Gackle, N.D., died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Hanford.

Mr. Remboldt was a graduate of Lincoln (Neb.) College and received a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Chicago. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. He worked in the health care field for 40 years. His last position was president of Adventist Health.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, Hanford; a son, Darwin, Hanford; a daughter, Susan Fargher, Arlington, Wash.; a sister, Pauline Beglau, Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Remboldt; and three brothers, Emil, Art and Aaron.

Graveside service: 3 p.m. Sunday, Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, northeast of Gackle.

Services Held for Mrs. Ed. Remboldt

Mrs. Edward C. Remboldt, 52, resident of the Gackle community died early Friday morning, March 3, 1967 at the Ashley Hospital in Ashley, North Dakota, where she had been a patient for one week.

Eva Aichle was born January 19, 1915 at the family farm 5 miles northeast of Tuttle in Kidder County, N.D., the daughter of John Aichle and Maria Nitschke Aichle. She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood on her parents far. She and Martin Gillig were married August 25, 1934 at Goodrich, North Dakota, where he worked as a laborer. Between the years 1941 and 1950 the family lived at Sykeston and Cathay, N.D. In 1950 the family moved to New Rockford, N.D.

On August 26, 1960, she and Edward C. Remboldt were married at Jamestown, N.D. They made their home at the family farm 2 1/2 miles north east of Gackle in Stutsman County. In the fall of 1966 they moved into Gackle.

She is survived by her husband, four children, Donna (Mrs. Elmer Pepple) Sioux Falls, S.D.; Irene (Mrs. Ralph Duursma) Carrington, N.D.; Carl Gillig, in the U. S. Air Force at Ft. Warren, Wyo.; Linda (Mrs. Keith Morlock) Bordulac, N.D.; seven grandchildren, four stepchildren, Clyde Remboldt, Gackle, Clayton Remboldt, and Arlene (Mrs. Lloyd Veil) both of Streeter, Twyla Remboldt, Rugby, N.D., five brothers, William Aichle, Adam Aichle, Richmond, Calif., John Aichle, Tuttle, N.D., Henry Aichle, Robinson, N.D.; Fred Aichle, Rogers, N.D.; two sisters (Mrs. Pauline Spitzer), Sykeston, N.D.; Elizabeth (Mrs. Jake Rath) Tuttle, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers in infancy, one sister, a stepchild, Kevin Remboldt in 1963.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 8, 1967 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gackle with Pastor Samuel Reille officiating and Pastor Edward Kanna assisting.

Burial was in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, N.D., The body was at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle.

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Harry Remboldt Sr., loving husband and father, passed away Aug. 23, 1998.

He was born in Gackle, N. D., in 1922, and was an area resident since 1958. He retired from the Kent Machine Co. with 22 years service, and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Army and Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He will forever be missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene; his children and grandchildren: daughters, Anna (Larry) Ray of Uniontown, Juliana (William) Koles of Orange Park, Fla.; son, Harry Jr. (Peggy) of Grand Blanc, Mich.; grandchildren, Jason, Derek, Rena Allison, and Evan; and many other relatives in North Dakota.

Hulda Remboldt, 91, Jamestown, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Hulda Sprecher was born Aug. 2, 1911, on the family farm home 15 miles north of Hebron, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Friedricka (Hagelon) Sprecher. She grew up in the area and attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She married Albert Remboldt on Jan. 5, 1931, in Jamestown. They lived on a farm northeast of Gackle, N.D., until 1937, when they moved into Gackle. She owned and operated a grocery store and cafe. He died July 8, 1986. She continued to live in Gackle and later entered Central Dakota Village. She attended Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Eva Remboldt, Boring, Ore., and Ruth Netz, Morgan, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and seven sisters.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Irene Remboldt, 90, Stockton, Calif., died Jan. 24, 2003, at Stockton.

Irene Alma Clark was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Courtenay, N.D., the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Zacharias) Clark. She grew up in Courtenay and Carrington, N.D. She graduated from Carrington High School. She married Archie W. Remboldt on Feb. 7, 1936, in Bismarck. In 1942 they moved to Jamestown. She worked as a secretary at the North Dakota State Hospital and then as a secretary at Jamestown College for 25 years. They moved to Stockton in 1979.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Elhard, Galt, Calif., and Sandi Peterson, Lodi, Calif.; two sons, Paul, Vergas, Minn., and David, Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Mary Wehmhoefer, Bismarck; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services: held Jan. 28, Zion Reformed Church, Lodi.

Mrs. Remboldt Services to be Held Thursday

Mrs. Katherina Remboldt, 80, pioneer and longtime resident of the Streeter community, died Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Bismarck Hospital where she had been a patient for about one month.

She was born Nov. 12, 1882 in So. Russia, the daughter of Andrew Zimmerman and Carolina Schlafman Zimmerman. She attended school there. In 1899 she came with her parents to the United States when they settled at Herreid, S.D., where the family farmed. A few years later they moved to a farm homestead 12 miles southwest of Streeter in Logan County.

On January 6, 1903, she and Mike Remboldt were married at Napoleon. Far a short time they farmed northeast of Gackle in Stutsman County, moving into Streeter in 1904. Following the death of her husband in 1931, she continued to live in Streeter until 1953 when she moved to Bismarck to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hoffer.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Streeter and of the Women's Missionary Society.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Earl Robertson, Sitka, Alaska; Mrs. Edwin Fischer, Streeter; Mrs. Lloyd Reeser, Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Oscar Hoffer, Bismarck; one son, Ernest II, Streeter; 15 grandchildren, on step grandchild, 15 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Christ Fischer, Ashley; Mrs. Theo. Derheim, Billing, Mont.; Mrs. Wm. Schlenker, Gackle; one brother, Carl Zimmerman, Napoleon. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one son in infancy, four brothers, and two sisters.

The funeral will be at 2:00 Thurs., Oct. 24 at the EUB Church in Streeter with Rev. A J. Borchardt, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Streeter, and Rev. Allan Strohschein, Bismarck, officiating. Burial will be in the Streeter Cemetery. The body will be at Haut Funeral Home in Gackle until Thursday at noon.

Kevin Kent Remboldt, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed C. Remboldt of rural Gackle, died at Trinity Hospital where he had been a patient for a month.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the First Congregational Church in Gackle with Elder H. I. Jarnes, pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Jamestown, officiating. Burial was in the Gackle Cemetery.

Born April 11, 1954, at Gackle, Kevin attended the Gackle public school and was a member of the third grade class. Due to illness, he left school last March 14, and two days later was admitted to the University Hospital in Minneapolis for treatment. After his return from Minneapolis, he entered Trinity Hospital periodically.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed C. Remboldt; two brothers and two sisters, Clyde Remboldt, Gackle; Clayton Remboldt and Mrs. Lloyd Veil (Arlene), Lincoln, Neb.; and Twyla Remboldt, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Remboldt and Edward Hehn, all of Gackle. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1959.

The honorary pallbearers were Thomas Tracy, Dwight Erickson, Joel Zenker, Dean Hehn, Myron Suko, and Roy Meyer. Active pallbearers were Tyler Lang, Quentin Schmierer, Roger Maier, and Michael Dockter.

Out of state relatives attending were the Emil Netz family, Morgan, Utah; Mrs. Elmer Pepple and children, Miss Linda Mann, Mrs. Keith Morlock, of Sioux Falls.

Lydia Remboldt, 93, Jamestown, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Central Dakota Nursing Home, Jamestown

Lydia Schroeder was born Sept. 25, 1907, at Jamestown, the daughter of John and Catherina (Schock) Schroeder. In 1912 the family moved to Griffin Township, where she received her education at the local rural school. In 1924 the family moved five miles west of Jamestown, where she helped on the family farm and grew up in the vicinity. She married Emil Remboldt Dec. 3, 1930, at Jamestown. They lived near Cleveland, N.D., and later near Gackle, N.D. They later moved to Alexander Township, northeast Gackle, where they farmed until retiring in 1976. In 1986 they moved into Jamestown. He died in January 1993. In February 2000 she entered Central Dakota Nursing Home, Jamestown. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown. She was the Sabbath school superintendent and a Dorcas leader and teacher in the Gackle SDA Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Willis) Seibold, Sykeston, N.D.; a son, Roger, Gackle; a sister, Martha Haas, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Larry; two sisters; and three brothers.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. David Stuart officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Burial: Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery, northeast of Gackle.

Mr. Remboldt was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. He married Christine Dorr June 1, 1933, in Napoleon, N.D., and they farmed near Gackle. In 1948 they moved into Gackle, where he and a partner opened Gackle Packing Plant. They operated the plant until 1983, when he retired.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Delano (Bud), Edina, Minn.; and Dwight (Chuck), Fargo; two daughter, Rosetta (Mrs. Herman) Gold, Napa, Calif.; and Suzetta Remboldt, Fargo; two brothers, Edward C., Gackle; and Reuben, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Netz, Morgan, Utah; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Paul A. Remboldt, 63, of Vergas, MN, died Sunday, December 2, 2007, near his home in Vergas.

Paul A. Remboldt was born October 23, 1944, in Jamestown, North Dakota, son of Archie and Irene (Clark) Remboldt. He attended Jamestown Elementary School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1962.

Paul went on to attend Jamestown College from 1962 – 1966, and graduated with a B.A. Degree in Sociology.

Paul was employed with Richland County Social Services from 1966 – 1968. In 1970, he received his Masters Degree in social work from Arizona State University. Paul went to work for the Jamestown State Hospital and South Central Human Service Center. He joined Southeast Human Service Center in Fargo, North Dakota in 1984. In 1995, Paul worked as Assistant Professor of Social Work for UND School of Social Work in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He retired on May 2, 2007.

Paul is survived by his sisters, Sharon (Tom) Elhard, Galt, CA; Sandy (Bob) Peterson, Lodi, CA; his brother, David (Kathy) Remboldt, Mandan, ND; nieces and nephews, Greg Allen Elhard, Beth Goehring, Sacramento, CA; Sara Larson, Stockton, CA; Ron Peterson, Kenya; Nathan Remboldt, Aurora, CO; Krista Remboldt, Riverside, CA; his aunt, Mary (Clark) Wehmhofer, Bismarck, ND; great nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Memorials are preferred to the Paul Remboldt Scholarship Endowment at Jamestown College.

He was born June 6, 1918, in Gackle, N.D. 

Mr. Remboldt was a sales representative.

He is survived by his wife, Annabelle; his daughter, Bonnie Marosy of Rockville, Md.; his son, Hank of Rancho Mirage; two sisters, Helen Overlander and Lillian Mueller; and two granddaughters.

Private services were held June 8, 2000, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Palm Desert.
Inurnment was in the Columbarium at St. Margaret’s.
Mountain View Memorial Gardens of Mesa, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.

Roger B. Remboldt, 59, Weatherby Lake in Platte County, died Feb. 4, 1993, at a hospital in Tucson, Ariz.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, Kansas City in Platte County; burial will be in the Gackle (N.D.) Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Newcomer's White Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Children's Diabetes Center at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Mr. Remboldt was born in Jamestown, N.D., and lived in Fargo, N.D., before he moved to this area in 1957. He was a facility engineer for the National Weather Service for 33 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Joan Remboldt of the home; a son, Jacob Remboldt, Kansas City; a daughter, Cynthia J. Remboldt, Atlanta; two sisters, his twin, Cynara Stadsvold, Corvallis, Ore., and Halaine Baer, Ankeny, Iowa; and two grandsons.

Roger James "Jim" Remboldt, 70, Gackle, N.D., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Remboldt was born March 3, 1934, at the family farm near Gackle, the son of Emil and Lydia (Schroeder) Remboldt. He attended rural school in Alexander Township and grew up in the area where he helped on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He returned home and started farming. He married Carol J. Olson on June 25, 1961, at Climax Lutheran Church in Climax, Minn. They lived on a farm northwest of Gackle from 1961 to 1966, then moved to a farm 5 miles southeast of Medina, N.D. In 1976, they moved to a farm 9 1/2 miles northeast of Gackle. In 1984, they moved into Gackle, and he started Remboldt Construction Co., which he operated until his death. She died in 1997. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Gackle, until it closed and a current member of Dakota Conference.

He is survived by three sons, Terry and Tom, both Gackle, and Tim (Amy), Eldridge, N.D.; a daughter, Tammy (Dave) Kline, Valley City, N.D.; a sister, Donna (Willis) Seibold, Sykeston, N.D.; and two stepgrandchildren, Valley City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son and a brother, Larry.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with Pastor David Stuart officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, and 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.

Twila Remboldt, 62, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck, N.D.

Twila Dockter was born Jan. 10, 1944, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Adolph and Florence (Strehle) Dockter. She grew up and attended Streeter Public School. She married Clayton Remboldt on July 16, 1960, at Streeter. They lived in Streeter until 1962 and then moved to Lincoln, Neb. They returned to Streeter in 1964. They owned and operated Streeter Bar. In 1966, they moved to Gackle, where she was employed at Gackle Meat Locker. In 1977, she began working as a bookkeeper at Co-operative Elevator Company of Gackle and later at Gackle Grain Co-op. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and served on the Gackle City Council from 2004-05. She enjoyed baking, cooking and cleaning.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Scott, Williston, N.D., Cordell (Zina), Bismarck, N.D., and Chad, Lenexa, Kan.; her mother, Florence Dockter-Heier, Gackle; a brother, Michael, Fargo, N.D.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Services: 2: p.m. Monday, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. Russ Pollock officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Sunday, Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

UNDERWOOD -- Walter W. Remboldt, 80, Underwood, died Oct. 9, 2000, in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at noon Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home.

Walter was born Dec. 5, 1919, [year wrong -see note] on the family farm north of Gackle, the son of Peter and Fredricka (Tesky) Remboldt. He was raised and educated in Gackle. He joined the military in 1945, where he served in the U.S., Alaska and as an interpreter in Germany. He also served in the Korean War. After surviving 20 years in the military, he worked road construction in Tacoma, Wash.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Lee Remboldt, Mississippi, and Joyce Sylvia Remboldt, California; and one sister, Leona Suko, Gackle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Emanual, Ervin and Harry; two sisters, Lydia and Hulda; and two sons, Ronald and Emanual.

Elmer Remmick, 74, Umatilla, Fla., formerly Jamestown, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Florida Hospital Waterman.

Mr. Remmick was born April 26, 1928, near Cleveland, N.D., the son of George and Elizabeth (Wiest) Remmick. He grew up and attended school in Streeter, N.D. He helped his father on the farm for a couple of years. He married Annie Pendill on Aug. 10, 1951, in Mandan, N.D. They lived at Highmore, S.D., where he worked on the building of the Big Ben Dam, southeast of Pierre, S.D., for two years. They moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where he worked for a housing project. They moved to New York, where he worked as a carpenter for many years. In 1997 he moved to Florida, where he owned a trailer court and worked for a produce processor. He married Patricia A. Graham in November 2001 in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; four sons, Roger D., Santee, Calif., Michael, Memphis, Tenn., Mark, Wheaton, Ill., and Kyle, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Charlene Marsh, Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Tammy Roemmich, Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, Walter, Jamestown, and Harold, Eugene, Ore.; six sisters, Alvina (Paul) Gienger, Sun City, Calif.; Bernice Pfahl, Goodrich, N.D., Irene Moos, Dickinson, N.D., Inez (Lyle) Siegner, Corona, Calif., Janice (Jerry) Fargis, Ocala, Fla., and Elizabeth (Gene) Farmer, Torrance, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Esther, Ruth, Gladys and Iona.

Rudolph Remmick, 87, Robinson, N.D., died Monday, July 14, 2003, at Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, N.D.

Mr. Remmick was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Gackle, N.D., the son of Jacob and Anna (Kassman) Remmick. He attended country schools and later worked with the Civil Conservation Corps. He married Alma Schumacher on June 29, 1939, in Steele. They lived on a farm north of Robinson. She died June 16, 1996. He enjoyed gardening, watching his geese and ducks walk around the yard, picking chokecherries, playing cards and driving his team of horses.

He is survived by a son, Marvin (Nadine), Robinson; two daughters, Mary Ann Dehne, Robinson, and Elsie (LaVerne) Wolff, Chaseley, N.D.; a sister, Amelia Gruebele, Jamestown; special friends, Blaine (Carla) Schaible and family; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant son, David; four brothers, Ted, Art, Albert and Clifford; five sisters, Mathilda, Johanna, Lydia, Julia and Martha; and a son-in-law, Dale Dehne.

Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, United Methodist Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Funeral services for Gottfried Rempfer, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, 15 September, 1955, in St. Paul's Lutheran church of Jud. Pastor R. W. Schwarz will officiate. Pallbearers will be Simon Giesler, Jack Ruther, Harold Gilbertson, Gottlieb Nitschke, Gust Merkle and Solomon Nitschke all of Jud.  Burial will be in Jud with Holte funeral home in charge. Mr. Rempfer died suddenly Monday night, September 12, 1955.

Mr. Rempfer was born in Russia on June 30, 1892, and came to this country with his parents. in the same year.  They settled in McIntosh county where they lived for two years before moving to Bluebird township south of Jud.  On January 13, 1919, he was married to Mary Nitschke.  In 1948 they moved into Jud where Mr. Rempfer was employed as custodian of the Jud school.  His wife preceded him in death just 4 days short of one year ago.

Survivors include his son Arthur of Jud; two daughters, Mrs. Cycil (Laura) Bower of Stockton, California and Mrs. Ed. (Esther) Ring also of Stockton and three children.

Arthur G. Rempfer, 87, of Galt died Sept. 12, 2007 of natural causes at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1919 in Judd, N.D., to Gottfred and Mary Rempfer.

Mr. Rempfer has lived in the Galt area for 30 years and worked in construction. He enjoyed building things and tinkering.

Surviving him are his children, Judy Shaklin and Jerald Rempfer of Galt; sisters, Esther Ring and Laura Bowser of Lodi; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gottfried, 54, were held Monday, September 20, 1954, in St. Paul's Lutheran church of Jud.  Rev. R. W. Schwarz of Kulm officiated. Mrs. Rempfer died at her home near Jud on Thursday Morning, September 16, 1954.  She was a victim of leukemia.

Mary Nitschke, a daughter of Jacob F. and Fredricka (Reinhardt) Nitschke, was born December 15, 1899, at Beresina, Bessarabia, South Russia.  She came to the United States in 1903 with her parents who settled in the Jud vicinity.  On January 13, 1919, she and Gottfried Rempfer were married.

Survivors include her husband, Gottfried; one son Arthur of Jud; two daughter, Mrs. Cycil (Laura) Bauser and Mrs. Eddie (Esther) Ring, both of Stockton, California; her father, Jake Nitschke of Alfred; three grand children, four sisters and three brothers.

Ardell Eugene Retzlaff Sr., 61, Kulm, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Retzlaff was born May 12, 1940, at Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Arthur and Irene (Isaak) Retzlaff. He grew up and attended rural school near Kulm. He then attended an academy school in Lincoln, Neb., for a time. He worked for a road construction firm in Rapid City, S.D. He married Leila Kramlich June 20, 1964, at the Methodist Church, Kulm. He began farming in the Kulm, area, and also drove school bus for many years until 1993 when he retired from farming due to an illness. He was a member of Kulm Lions Club, Kulm JCs and Kulm Rod and Gun Club.  He enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his shop, snowmobiling, hunting, and raising pheasants for the Game and Fish Department.

He is survived by four daughters, Leila Jo (Jack) Brandenburger, Rosholt, S.D., Marcia (Todd) King, Ellendale, N.D., and Yvette (Anthony) Strollo and Tisha Retzlaff, both Brooksville, Fla.; a son, Ardell Jr. (Penny), Jamestown; his mother, Minneapolis, Minn.; three sisters, Beverly Retzlaff, LaVonne Retzlaff and Betty Betsch; a brother, Curtis; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dahlstrom Funeral Home Chapel, Kulm, with the Rev. Dave Stuart officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Emil "Finn" Reule, 87, Dickinson, N.D., formerly Medina, N.D., and Show Low, Ariz., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson.

Mr. Reule was born in Gackle, N.D., and moved to Medina, at the age of 12. He married Laurie Bietz in 1937. In 1945 he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. When he returned home he took over the Reule Implement (Chevrolet and JI Case Dealership) in Medina until 1959. After his health declined, he accepted a position at the North Dakota Sate Hospital as director of the credit and collection department in January 1962. In 1972 he retired in Show Low. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with many trips to Alaska and Yukon Territories.

He is survived by two sons, Terry (Pollie) Reule, Dickinson, and Randy (Alice), Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mona Morgan, Yakima, Wash; two brothers, Norma (Alta), Apache Junction, Ariz., and William (Lucille), Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Services: 7 p.m. Sunday, Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with the Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Military honors by Veterans Drill Team following the service.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Karen Joyce McCommon was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Jamestown, where she grew up and attended school. On July 3, 1973, she married James Richter in Aberdeen, S.D. She worked for Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. They moved to Aberdeen in 1975 and later to Lakeview in 1981. She worked as activities director for the Lake District Nursing Facility, Oregon, for many years.

He was born March 16, 1936, in Gackle, N.D., to Ilo and Edith (Schlenker) Rickard. He was a veteran of the Navy. He was a member of Pequot Lakes American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly; two daughters, Michelle Rickard, Pequot Lakes, and Cindy Tulenchik, Pine River; four sons, Billy Rickard, East Bethel, and Bobby Rickard, Berry Rickard and Brian Rickard, all of Pequot Lakes; a grandchild; his mother, Edith Beauvais, Brainerd; a brother, Jerry Rickard, Big Lake; and a sister, Beverly Anderson, Brainerd.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes with Pastors David Stevens and Paul Jensen officiating.

Gertrude C. Riebhagen, 88, Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.

Gertrude Christine Kusler was born October 8, 1917 on the family homestead, south of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of August and Christine (Woelfle) Kusler. She was baptized, confirmed and attended church and Sunday School in the Nazareth Congregational Church in Fredonia. She attended a one room country school south of Fredonia in Haag Township.

Gertrude married Otto Riebhagen on January 3, 1935 in Napoleon, ND. They rented a farm northwest of Fredonia. In 1940, they purchased a farm 8 miles southeast of Kulm, ND where they raised small grains and livestock.

Gertrude and Otto moved to Jamestown in June of 1981. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Germans from Russia Historical Society (G.R.H.S.), both in Jamestown. She enjoyed singing in the G.R.H.S. choir as well as the church choir. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and embroidering.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Melvin E.) Herrmann, Fargo, ND and Betty Lou Zimmerman, Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-granddaughter and one sister-in-law, Edna Hildebrand, Escondido, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto; infant son; two sisters, Iona Schorzman and Leah Polensky; one brother, Raymond Kusler; infant great-grandson, Nicholas Herrmann and a son-in-law, Melvin Zimmerman.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 9, 2006 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenrad Pederson and Rev. Norman Winkelman officiating.

Funeral services for Gottfried Riebhagen, 86, Wishek, and formerly of Fredonia, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at United Church of Christ, Wishek, with Revs. Tammy and Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. He died May 19 at a Bismarck hospital.

Gottfried was born Sept. 28, 1914 on the family farm near Fredonia, the son of Jacob and Fredericka (Lang) Riebhagen. He grew up in the vicinity and received his education at the Logan County country school near Fredonia.

Gottfried married Lila Munsch on Dec. 3, 1944 in Fredonia. They lived and farmed on the Riebhagen farm until 1979, when they retired and moved to Wishek.

While on the farm, Gottfried served as chairman of the township board. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially golf, bowling and hunting. Gottfried's greatest enjoyment was hunting. He was a member of United Church of Christ, Wishek.

Survivors include his wife, Lila of Wishek; a sister, Edna Hildenbrand of Escondido, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gottfried was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Graveside services are set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kulm Congregational Cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Wishek is in charge of arrangements.

Otto Riebhagen, 87, Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in the Jamestown (N.D.) Hospital. Otto was born May 13, 1911, on the family farm in rural Logan County, ND, near Fredonia, the son of Jacob and Fredericka (Lang) Riebhagen. Otto grew up there, and received his elementary education in rural Logan County School near Fredonia. Following his education, he continued to live on the family farm with his parents, until his marriage to Gertrude Kusler on Jan. 3, 1935, in Napoleon, N.D. Following their marriage, they farmed northwest of Fredonia until purchasing a farm home 8 miles southeast of Kulm, ND, where they lived and farmed. Funeral services for Bertha Rieger, 100, Wishek, were held Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She died Jan. 31 at Wishek Home for the Aged.

Bertha Rieger, daughter of Fredrick and Christina (Werner) Sayler, was born Feb. 29, 1904 in rural Logan County. She lived and worked on the family farm and graduated from the 8th grade. School was held for a time on her parents' farm in the summer kitchen. Later, she went to Hebron to visit a sister. She taught at a country school in that area for a short time until a replacement could be found.

She met Henry Sayler while teaching in Hebron. When she was almost 21 years old, she married Henry in Feb. 18, 1925, in Napoleon. After their marriage, Henry and Bertha built a new home and farmed, 13 miles southwest of Glen Ullin. They had one child, Erma, and a child not yet born when Henry passed away on Aug. 2, 1927.

After Henry’s death, Bertha moved back to live with her parents in Wishek, where Albert was born. She did housework for different homes and went to her brothers farms to help with milking, harvesting, taking care of their children, and any kind of work she could get to help support her family.

Bertha married John Rieger on Oct. 26, 1931 in Zeeland. Bertha and John farmed in the Wishek area until 1970, when they purchased a home in Wishek and moved to town. Bertha moved to the Wishek Retirement Home Apartments in 1985. She did her own cooking and took care of her apartment. Bertha and John had been married for more than 54 years when John died in 1986.

Bertha did a lot of crocheting, reading, and visiting. In 2002, she moved to the nursing area of the Retirement Home due to health. Bertha was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and she later was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. There had been many happy and sad times in her life, but her faith never failed her.

Survivors include two sons, Albert H. Sayler of Wishek and Roger F. (Fae) Rieger of Menoken; five daughters, Wilma Obenauer of Billings, Mont., Erma Krein of Wishek, Virginia Just of Wishek, Mary Ann (Marvin) Fiechtner of Wishek and Betty (Bill) Gustafson of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister; Ida Klein of Riverside, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Bertha was preceded in death by two husbands, two daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law, four son-in-laws, her parents, seven brothers and five sisters.

Burial was at St. Andrew's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Zeeland. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Wishek was in charge of arrangements.

Ida Rieger, 78, Jamestown, formerly Streeter, N.D., died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Ida Dockter was born April 7, 1918, near Streeter, where she grew up and attended school. She married Ferdinand Dorr on March 25, 1940, in Napoleon, N.D. They lived and farmed near Streeter. He died in 1948, and she moved into Streeter. She then entered a group home in Grafton, N.D., and then a nursing home in Ellendale, N.D., and later a nursing home in Eureka, S.D. She has spent the past few years in Hi-Acres Manor.

Erna Rieker, 84, Bismarck, entered eternal life on Wednesday, September 10, 2003.  Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Baptist Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Harriman and Chaplain Clyde Leimberer officiating.  Burial has taken place at the Fisher Cemetery, Tappen, ND.

Erna Siegle was born September 18, 1918, at Streeter, ND, the daughter of Gottfried and Mathilda (Erbele) Siegle. She was raised and educated south of Tappen. Erna married Reinhold Rieker on December 12, 1937, south of Tappen.

They managed the Farmer’s Cream Station at Tappen which they later owned and operated for 28 years. During this time they also farmed in the area.

Erna played the piano and the organ in her church since she was a young girl. Music was her passion in life. She gave piano lessons for many years and delighted in the achievements of her students. She was a hard working, self sufficient determined woman who showed her love to her family in many ways.

She was an active Gideon Auxiliary member and held many offices with the Gideon’s.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane and Tom Haan, Mandan and DeLilah (Dee) Rieker, Dickinson; two sisters Lorraine Gonsalves, Antioch, CA and Vange Correia, Isleton, CA , one step-sister, Toni Edwards, Oroville, CA. and nieces and nephews.

Erna was preceded in death by her husband Reinhold who died in 1976; two brothers, Gideon and Elmer Siegle and three sisters, Pauline Rieker, Clara Trautman and Irene Kramlich.

She then was a sales clerk in New York Mills, Minn. On Oct. 10, 1944, she married Oscar Ritola in Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Omaha, Neb., and Wadena, Minn. Benjamin Rivinius, 80, Bismarck, died Nov. 1, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Honor Guard and flag presentation by the American Legion Post No. 1.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Ben was born on a farm in McLean County, northeast of Coleharbor, N.D., on Sept. 6, 1920, the son of Eduard and Christina (Benne) Rivinius. He received his grade school education in rural schools and his high school education in Garrison and Coleharbor, graduating from Coleharbor High School in 1939. At the age of sixteen his family moved from the farm to the town of Coleharbor. After two years at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, he went to work as a clerk for Red Owl in Plentywood, Mont. He was soon transferred to Minot. Due to the war crisis, Lockheed Aircraft was recruiting help. He applied and went to work in Burbank, Calif. Soon after the raid on Pearl Harbor, he received his greetings from Uncle Sam. Ben served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. While stationed in Galveston, Texas, he met and married Evelyn Standley. After his discharge they moved to Bismarck. Ben was employed in the electric service department of MDU for 13 years. In 1959 he started Ben's Electric, which he operated for 25 years. After his retirement he spent many hours on various lakes and rivers fishing and enjoying the sights and sounds of wildlife. The inclement days were spent indoors building an assortment of articles in his woodworking shop for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles, and continued to be a member of the Masons, American Legion and Amvets.

Ben is survived by four children, Ronald Rivinius, Mandan, Susan and Richard Paul, Billings, Mont., Stanley Rivinius, Golden, Colo., and Sandy and Vince Williams, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Julie (Rivinius) Bogden and her husband Shane, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Tanya (Paul) Fuher and her husband Rich, Bismarck, Joe Rivinius, Bismarck, Becki (Paul) Santiago, Billings, Mont., Ron Rivinius Jr., Fargo, and Jacinta Rivinius, Wesley Rivinius, Anna Rivinius, Colby Ereth, Morgan Williams and Madison Williams, all of Bismarck; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin and LaVern, Bismarck; two sisters, Ema and Homer Zimmerman, Oakesdale, Wash., and Edna and W.A. Becker, Hettinger; and a dear friend, Lorrine Mehlhouse, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn in 1995; his parents; one sister, Esther; one grandson, Michael Rivinius; and one great-granddaughter, Joy Kephart.

The family prefers memorials to McCabe United Methodist Church.

RIVINIUS SERVICE HELD WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Katherina Rivinius, 85, pioneer and longtime resident of the Streeter, N.D., community died late Saturday evening, May 31, 1969 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown, N.D., where she had resided for about nine months.

Katherina Grenz was born October 15, 1883 in South Russia, the daughter of Gottfried Grenz and Katherine Haverly Grenz. She attended school in her native land and came to the United States with her parents in the year 1894, when they settled near Venturia, N.D., where she grew to womanhood. The family moved to a farm seven miles northwest of Gackle in Stutsman County in 1906.

On March 4, 1907, she and Conrad Rivinius were married at Napoleon, N.D. They lived on the family homestead twelve miles northwest of Streeter in Tanner Township for about fourteen months and then moved to a farm five miles southeast of Streeter, where they farmed until 1920 when they moved into Streeter. In Streeter her husband operated the Streeter Light Plant until he became engaged in the pool hall business, which he operated until 1942 when he retired. Following the death of her husband on April 10, 1947, she continued to live in Streeter. Due to chronic illness she was hospitalized September 12, 1967 at the Gackle Hospital, where she remained until September 12, 1968 when she entered the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.

Surviving are five children: Gust Rivinius of Lockeford, Calif.; Matilda (Mrs. Walter Enzminger) of Lodi, Calif.; Otilda (Mrs. Wayne Noyes) of Mandan, N.D.; Leona (Mrs. Milton Schwartzwalter) of Minneapolis, Minn.; Alice (Mrs. Alvin Dewald) of Streeter, N.D.; seven children, seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Ausef Grenz of Lockeford, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents , her husband, one son, Arthur in 1931, four brothers and one sister. (A brother Ferdinand Grenz died May 24, 1969).

The funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 1969 at the United Methodist Church in Streeter with Rev. R. C. Stading, pastor of the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle officiating. Burial was in the Streeter Cemetery at Streeter. Haut Funeral Home in Gackle was in charge of arrangements.

One-car rollover on icy road kills Gackle man
Gackle, N.D. (AP)

A one-car rollover on an icy road killed a Gackle man Friday, the state Highway Patrol said.  The 69-year-old victim was not immediately identified pending notification of relatives.  The Highway Patrol office in Jamestown said the man was alone in his car when it overturned on state Highway 46 about 12:45 p.m.  There were scattered areas of ice due to drifting snow that was sticking and freezing," said a Highway Patrol spokesman.  He said the car went into a ditch and flipped in the air, throwing the man from the vehicle.

Fred E. Robillard, 83, Streeter, N.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, south of Streeter due to an automobile accident.

Mr. Robillard was born Feb. 13, 1923, at Kent, Wash., the son of Fred J. and Alfreda (Dahlgren) Robillard. He attended school and graduated from high school in Kent. He entered the U.S. Army and served in North Africa during World War II. He married Aimee Ranallo. He was a full-time fireman at the Fort Lewis Army Post and also did sign painting in Washington. In 2000, he and his wife moved to Streeter when they retired.

He is survived by his wife, 14 children, a brother, a sister, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gottfried Roedel Dies: Funeral Rites Monday

Gottfried Roedel, 79, died at Lisbon, N.D., Tuesday [24 DEC 1968].

Mr. Roedel was born Feb. 3, 1887 [1889] in Southern Russia. When he was nine years of age he moved to the United States and was raised in Southeastern North Dakota

Feb. 21, 1909, he was married to Sarah Gumke at Fredonia, N.D. The couple was engaged in farming in North Dakota until 1916 when they moved to the Great Falls area. In 1943 they moved to Kalispell and were engaged in the real estate business here until the death of Mrs. Roedel on May 26, 1954.

In 1955, Mr. Roedel Moved to Enderlin, N.D., and has lived there since that time. He was married to Matilda Schlecht [nee Gumke] in North Dakota in 1955 and is now survived by her.

He is also survived by three sons, Harry of Kalispell, Bernard of Great Falls and William in Idaho; four daughters, Emma Webster of Pamona, Calif., Martha Bryer of Great Falls, Ella Case of Oregon City, Ore., and Clara Hill of Virginia, Minn.; one brother, John Roedel of Modesto, Calif.; one sister, Kate Ray of Portland Ore.; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Roedel will be conducted in the Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Harold Huber officiating.

Interment will be in the Conrad Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Home.

Harry L. Roedel, 66

Harry L. Roedel, 66, of 178 Managhan Lane, was dead on arrival at the Kalispell Regional Hospital early Sunday morning following a heart attack at his daughter's home in Eureka.

He was a retired maintenance foreman for State Highway Department.

Mr. Roedel was born July 9, 191o at Deisem, N.D., the son of Gottfried and Sarah Roedel. He moved to Eastern Montana with his parents when he was a child and attended schools there. He married Lillian Thompson in Great Falls on July 27, 1934.

They farmed and ranched in the Great Falls area many years before moving to Kalispell in 1940. She died here July 8, 1965.

He married Dora Mae Johnson her June 4, 1966 and is now survived by her at the family home.

Mr. Roedel went to work for the Montana State Highway Department in 1944 and over the years worked in the Stryker, Marion and Kalispell areas. Due to an injury on the job he retired four years ago.

Mr. Roedel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Men's Club of the church.

Surviving besides his widow, are a son, Lawrence F.., Bigfork; his daughter Mrs. John (Charlotte) Osler, Eureka; his  step-daughter, Mrs. Gladys Mae Toy, Temple City, Calif.; step-sons, Donald Leroy Mitchell, Salt Lake City, Utah and Daniel Raymond Mitchell, Kalispell; three brothers, Bernard, Kalispell, Herman, Great Falls and William, Hamer, Idaho; four sisters, Mrs. Martha Bryers, Great Falls, Mrs. Larry (Claral) Hill, Virginia, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Ella) Case, Oregon City, Ore., and Mrs. Max (Emma) Dany, Pamona, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Roedel Dies at Age 65

Mrs. Gottfried Roedel, 65, of 421 Sixth Street East, died in the Kalispell hospital last night.

Mrs Roedel was born Sarah Gumke in Russia, May 30, 1888. On Feb. 21, 1909, she was married to Gottfried Roedel in Fredonia, N.D.

They came to Sand Coulee, later lived at Belt and Armington and in 1943 came to Kalispell.

She is survived by her husband, Gottfried, in Kalispell; four sons, Harry Stryker; Bernard, Whitefish; Herman W., Great Falls; and William R., Newport, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs Art Webster, Whitefish; Mrs. Hendon Bryer, Great Falls; Mrs. Robert F. Case, Tahoe Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Larry J. Hill, Togo, Minn.; 20 Grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one brother, Jake Gumke, Mandan, N.D., and three sisters, Mrs. Emanuel Hauff, Lodi, Calif.; Mrs. Katherine Hell, Gackle, N.D., and Mrs. Matilda Schlecht, Enderlin, N.D.

The body is at Johnson Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3 pm by Rev. Eugene King, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Sophia Roemmich, 90, Jamestown; wife of the late Henry Roemmich died Tuesday evening in Jamestown Hospital where she had been a patient for three days.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Robert Sirutz, Jamestown, Rev. J. Leslie Otteson, Crystal Springs, and Rev. Clayton Scheaffer, Buchanan, Officiation.  Interment will be in Tappen Cemetery with the Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Roemmich was born Oct. 20 1889, in Johannestal, South Russia, daughter of Jacob and Margareta (Fuhrer) Metzger.  She attended school in her native land and at the age of 18, in 1907 came with her mother to the United States.  They settled near Streeter.  She and Henry Roemmich were married Jan. 23, 1910, at Streeter.  They farmed in the community until moving to the Tappen-Dawson vicinity where they continued to farm.  They moved into Tappen for their retirement.  Following the death of her husband in 1957, Mrs. Roemmich continued to reside in Tappen until moving to Jamestown in the fall of 1973.  She had been a member of the Evangelical United Brethern Church of Tappen and was a member of the Faith Evangelical Church at Crystal Springs.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Edward Schlittenhard (Martha), Gackle, William Roemmich, Billings, Mont., Albert Roemmich, McMinnville, Ore., Mrs. Jacob Silzie (Amelia), Mrs. Edna Sheetz, Jamestown, Henry Roemmich, Cody, Wyo., Walter Roemmich, Powell, Wyo., Gideon Roemmich, Edmonton, Canada, Mrs. Israel Martin (Erna), Tappen, and Ervin Roemmich, Bismarck; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by one son , one brother and three sisters.

Arthur J. "Art" Rost, 81, Kulm, N.D., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, N.D.

Mr. Rost was born Nov. 29, 1925, at Diesem, N.D., the son of John and Christine (Bollinger) Rost. He grew up and attended school south of Kulm. He married Lillian Heck on Nov. 24, 1947, at Ellendale, N.D. They lived and farmed south of Kulm. He retired in 1990. He drove school bus for many years for the Kulm School District and served on the township board.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Glenn (Marcia), Park River, N.D., and Dennis (Shirley), Hazen, N.D.; a daughter, Patty (Frank) Sieg, Anamoose, N.D.; a brother, Ervin, Minden, Nev.; two sisters, Alice Rost and Nettie Fredrick, both Ellendale; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ed; and a sister Hertha.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, N.D.

Esther M. Miemietz Rothwell, 86, Carrington, N.D., formerly Jamestown, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.

Esther Hust was born Oct. 10, 1915, near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Christ and Katherine (Bitz) Hust. She grew up near Medina, N.D., and attended school there. She worked on several farms in the area. She married Frank Miemietz on Sept. 23, 1934, in Wimbledon, N.D. They lived in Jamestown. She worked for Peterson-Biddock Feed for a couple years and later ran an adult care center in her home. He died Nov. 16, 1979. She married William Rothwell on Sept. 2, 1981, in Jamestown. He died May 14, 1990. On May 13, 2002, she moved to Golden Acres Manor. She was a member of The Basilica of St. James, the Tabernacle Society and the Carrington V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, baking and cooking.

She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy (Kenneth) Kracht, Carrington, Luella Croce, New Rockford, Joyce (Maylen) Buetow, Rapid City, S.D., Terri Moran, Jamestown, and Michele (Robert) Rockey, Pewaukee, Wis.; a son, Duane (Carolyn) Miemietz, Jamestown; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, six sisters, six brothers, two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with the Rev. Steven Reiske officiating.

Clarence Rott, 72, Kulm, N.D., died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his home, under hospice care.

Mr. Rott was born Nov. 29, 1933, on the family farm south of Ashley, N.D., the son of Otto and Pauline (Obenauer) Rott. He grew up and attended Ashley Public School, graduating in 1952. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton. He married Pearl Graff on Aug. 4, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. In 1961, they moved to a farm at Kulm, where he farmed until 1998. In March of 1964, they moved into Kulm. He received a private pilot’s license in 1969. In 1972, he purchased a dragline and did stock pond excavation until 1992, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He also did carpentry work, building several homes, including their own. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, where he served as financial secretary. He served as board of director for the North Dakota Land Improvement Contractors Association. He enjoyed working the soil.

He is survived by his wife; a son Tim (Gina), Ashley; a daughter, Tammy (Monte) Wahl, Aberdeen, S.D., a brother, Jerome (Janice), Ashley; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry; and a grandson, Eric John Wahl.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm.
Visitation: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Richard Rott, 85, Jamestown, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Mr. Rott was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Streeter, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Idaho in 1933. He married Clara Janke Oct. 31, 1938, near Tappen, N.D. They lived in Sacramento, Calif., for two years before moving to farm near Tappen. They later farmed with his brother Edwin near Crystal Springs, N.D.  He moved to Jamestown in 1971.

He is survived by a son, Michael, Minneapolis; three daughters, Elaine Knuth, Jamestown, Lucy Rova, Mandan, N.D., Diane Balster, Fargo; a brother, Edwin (Elsie), Crystal Springs; two sisters, Frieda Teske, Emma Hill, both Jamestown; two stepsisters, Maggie Daugs, Amelia (Adam) Schauer, both California; a half brother, Gerhardt Dockter, California; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Richard Rott, 85, Jamestown, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.

Mr. Rott was born Dec. 16, 1915, at Streeter, N.D., the son of John and Katherine (Kirschenmann) Rott. He attended Graff Township school near Streeter and grew up in the vicinity. In 1933 he entered the CCC in Idaho. He married Clara Janke Oct. 31, 1938, at her parents' home south of Tappen, N.D. They moved to Sacramento, Calif., for two years, then moved back to North Dakota and lived on a farm south of Tappen. They bought a farm near Crystal Springs, N.D., which they shared with his twin brother, Edwin. In 1971 he moved to Jamestown. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tappen. He was on the Crystal Springs School board. He enjoyed music and could play guitar and accordion. He played in Mel's Band.

He is survived by a son, Michael, Minneapolis, Minn.; three daughters, Elaine Knuth, Jamestown, Lucy Rova, Mandan, N.D., and Diane Balster, Fargo; two sisters, Frieda Teske and Emma Hill, both Jamestown; a brother, Edwin (Elsie), Crystal Springs; two stepsisters, Maggie Daugs and Amelia (Adam) Schauer, California; a half brother, Gerhardt Dockter, California; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three stepsisters, two stepbrothers, a half brother, a half sister and two grandchildren.

Virgil Rott, 72, Jamestown, formerly of Nortonville, N.D., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Rott was born Jan. 25, 1935, on the family farm near Fredonia, N.D., the son of Sam R. and Maggie (Herman) Rott. He moved with his family to a farm northwest of Nortonville. He attended Kennison Township (N.D.) School and graduated from Nortonville High School in 1954. He married Shirley Hollingsworth on Jan. 16, 1955. They lived on the family farm at Nortonville, where they farmed and raised cattle. He was one of the first farmers in North Dakota to use a center pivot irrigation system. In 1988, they moved to Jamestown, where he had a wood shop. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Nortonville. He enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dwight (Cindy), Dawson, N.D., Leland (Deb), Nortonville, and Neil (Svitlana), Buchanan, N.D.; three daughters, Laura Rott and Julie Brady, both Jamestown, and Linda (Calvin) Steffes, LaMoure, N.D.; a brother, Arlon, Nortonville; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, United Methodist Church, Nortonville, with the Rev. Wayne McKirdy officiating.

Leah Roush, 86, Jamestown, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Leah Netzer was born March 19, 1920, at rural Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Daniel and Barbara (Schlaht) Netzer. She grew up near Gackle and attended school in Griffen Township Country School. She lived and worked on the family farm until 1942. She moved to Tacoma, Washington and worked at the Sands Hotel for six years as a waitress and head dining room girl. Leah was later employed at a nursing home and worked for the civil service at an Army hospital in Ft. Lewis, Washington for nine months. She returned to North Dakota when her father passed away in 1948. On January 5, 1951, she married Ora Marvin Roush in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Leah was married twenty-three years before Ora’s passing. Leah got a job at the Jamestown Hospital and was employed from 1950 to 1980. She became a licensed practical nurse with her employment at the hospital. She resided in Jamestown until her passing. He died in 1974. Leah was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jamestown.

She is survived by two sisters, Rebecca Woehl, Jamestown, and Caroline Cook, Tacoma, WA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one brother and a special friend, Harry Johnson.

Funeral service: 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Stuart officiating.

Rova, Formerly Gackle, Passes

G. Adolph Rova, 57 of Houghton, Mich., died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hancock, Mich.

He was born in Atlantic Mine, May 10, 1906, the son of Mr. and Mrs Arvid Rova. At the age of 10 he moved with his parent to Gackle, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Valley City Teachers and taught school for 10 years in North Dakota. He later attended college in Marquette and taught school at Hancock.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, a daughter Lois, two brothers, Wilfred of Bismarck, and Alden of Wenatchee, Wash.

Joe Sarkinen informed the Homestead of Rova's death. The Rovas lived on a farm nine miles southwest of Gackle, and Adolph taught school in that vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. Sarkinen spent two weeks vacation at Hancock which is their birthplace.

Alvin Rudolf, 92, Wishek, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek.

Mr. Rudolf was born Nov. 30, 1914, at Wishek, the son of August L. and Maria (Meidinger) Rudolf. He grew up there and attended Rosenfield Country School and helped on the farm. He married Ada Rau on Nov. 17, 1940, in Wishek. They farmed southwest of Wishek for eight years. In 1948, they moved to Wishek. He continued to farm until he retired in 1997. He also was employed at Wishek Concrete and the Gambles Store. He moved to Wishek Home for the Aged in March 2002. He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge, Eagles Club and St. Luke Lutheran Church, all Wishek.

He is survived by a son, Mike (Pam), Glyndon, Minn.; a daughter, Carole (Leonard) Becker, Bismarck, N.D.; a brother, Paul (Estella), Wishek; four sisters, Elma Dorr and Lorrene Hochhalter, both Wishek, Luella Vilhaurer, Vancouver, Wash., and Mabel (Dick) Justice, Alexandria, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jerry; a daughter, Sharen; his parents; a brother, Helmuth; two sisters, Esther Brandner and Erna Rath; and a granddaughter, Valerie.

Michael K. Rudolf, 57, of Glyndon, Minn., known to everyone as Mike, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, after a brief struggle with cancer.

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, at Glyndon Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Hitterdal, Minn.

Mike was born on Feb. 18, 1950 in Bismarck, to Alvin and Ada (Rau) Rudolf. He grew up and attended school in Wishek, graduating from high school in 1968. After high school, he attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year before enlisting with the Marines in 1970. Following his honorable discharge, he finished his college education at Wahpeton and started employment with Western Electric, a division of Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., now known as Qwest Communications.

On Feb. 14, 1976, he married Pamela Eide in Moorhead, Minn. They lived on Lake Melissa from 1977-81 before making their home in rural Glyndon. Mike was a member of the CWA Teamsters Union, Glyndon Jaycees, Glyndon Lutheran Church and the Leech Lake Yacht Club. His enjoyment in life was first and foremost his family, but also spending time at the lakes, particularly the five summers spent at Leech Lake Marina in Walker, Minn., on his cabin cruiser.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of more than 30 years, Pam; two sons, Kelly (Fiancé Kristi), Reiles Acres, and Casey, Glyndon; a sister, Carole (Leonard) Becker, Bismarck; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Rudolf, Vancouver, Wash.; 16 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews; a great-great nephew; and many friends.

His parents; a brother, Jerry; and a sister, Sharen, preceded Mike in death.  He will be forever missed by us all.

Matthew Rudolph, 92, Jamestown, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Rudolph was born Feb. 17, 1910, in Streeter, N.D., the son of Matthew and Sophia (Kust) Rudolph. He grew up southwest of Streeter and attended country school. He farmed with his parents. He married Ella Heller on Sept. 28, 1941, in Streeter. They lived and farmed southwest of Streeter. In 1946 they moved to a farm near Montpelier, N.D. When he retired from farming in 1964, they moved to Jamestown, where he worked as a carpenter for Marvin Goehner Construction and several other contractors. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Jamestown Eagles.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, DeLayne (Diana), Seattle, Wash., Randy, Jamestown, and Lynn (Tracy), St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Arthur, Jamestown, and Edwin (Edna), Aberdeen, S.D.; two sisters, Helen (Marvin) Weisz, Norfolk, Neb., Adeline Docktor, Aberdeen; two sisters-in-law, Lenora Heller, Gackle, N.D., and Marie Rudolph, Moorhead, Minn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Jake; and four sisters, Emma, Kate, Alvina and Alice.

Melvin Rue, 95, Valley City, N.D., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997 in Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Mr. Rue was born Sept. 3, 1901, in Lyon County, Minn. As a 5-year-old, he moved with his family to the Gackle, N.D., area, where he grew up. He attended school near Streeter, N.D. At the age of 16, he began working as a carpenter, painter and mechanic in Gackle and Streeter. From 1942 to 1943, he served in the U.S. Army. Following military service, he returned to Streeter and worked as a farmhand for 17 years. On Oct. 24, 1954, he married Lydia Schauer in Jamestown, N.D. They lived in Streeter, where he worked as a carpenter. She died in 1988. He later entered Gackle Care Center, then moved to Sheyenne Care Center. ...

The Rev. George H. Rueb, 89, Ashley, N.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at Ashley Medical Center, Ashley.

Mr. Rueb was born Feb. 13, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Wishek, N.D., the son of Heinrich and Philipina (Bauer) Rueb. He grew up there and attended country school and Wishek Public School. He married Alma Sayler on March 11, 1937, at Wishek. They lived on a farm southwest of Wishek while he served a church at Venturia, N.D., until February 1942. Continuing his ministry, they moved to Streeter, N.D., and in 1951, to Medina, N.D. In 1955, they moved to Ashley, where he served Bethel Assembly of God from 1955-1963. He then served churches in Cleveland, Santa Clara, Calif., and Tacoma, Wash. He established six Assembly of God Churches. In 1956, he began a radio show in the German language, called "Hour of Worship." which aired on Aberdeen, S.D., and Mobridge, S.D., radio for 45 years. They also traveled to Mexico and Canada, ministering in German. She died Sept. 24, 1997. He married Lenora Deutscher in November 1998, at Ashley. They lived in Ashley. She died Nov. 19, 2001. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church, Ashley, and served as executive presbyter of German District of the Assemblies of God Church and treasurer for Dakota Conference of Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by two sons, Adolph (Dorene), Ashley, and the Rev. David (Rita), Buchanan, Mich.; a daughter, Ruthie (Leo) Vilhauer, Leola, S.D.; four brothers, Christ (Cindy), Lodi, Calif., Valentine (Olga), Jamestown, Raymond (LaVern), Phoenix, and Oscar (Nettie), Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Emma Peltz, Glen Ullin, N.D., six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, four sisters, two in infancy, and a brother.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with the Rev. Ryan Maxted officiating.

Frieda H. Ruff, 91, Roseville, MN, formerly West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in the Presbyterian Home of Roseville, a nursing care facility, where she had resided since February.

Frieda H. Remboldt was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Medina, ND. She moved with her family to Gackle, ND, in 1923. She graduated from Gackle High School in 1927. In 1931 she graduated from Jamestown (ND) College with a BA degree. She taught school in Fredonia and Kulm, ND, and received a life teaching certificate. She also attended the Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, IL, and graduated in 1934. She received a missionary assignment to serve in Kodiak, AK, for three years, but chose instead to marry her high school sweetheart, Walter A. Ruff. They were married June 21, 1936.

In 1938 Frieda and Walt bought a Red Owl Agency grocery store in West Fargo, ND, which they operated for 17 years. Subsequently, they owned and operated a Dairy Queen and then the Skogmo Clothing store in West Fargo until 1971 when Walt retired. He died in 1980.

During the 60 years she lived in West Fargo, Frieda was very active in the Community Presbyterian Church and numerous activities including Bonanza Bells, Amita Women’s Club and Pioneer Daughters. She also taught in the Fargo Adult Educational Program for six years, making many friends. Frieda continued to live in West Fargo until March 1998 when she moved to Oakcrest Senior Housing Complex in Spring Lake Park, MN, where she lived until September 2001. She then moved to Eaglecrest Assisted Living Complex in Roseville.

She is survived by two sons, Dale (Lola), Moundsview, MN, and Jack (Karen), Shoreview, MN; a sister, Loraine (Ed) Negravel, Portland, OR; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Thursday from 4-7 PM in West Funeral Chapel, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7, and visitation one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Friday, April 5, 2002, at 11 AM in Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo, with Rev. Mark Tilly officiating.

Jacob Ruff, Sr., 74, Gackle Dies On Road Near Sydney
Found in Pool of Water; Believe Heart Attack Caused Him To Collapse

Late Friday afternoon the body of Jacob Ruff, Sr., well know resident of Fredonia vicinity, was found in a small pool of water on the highway near Sydney by his son-in-law, Christ Stickel who resides on a farm near by. Coroner E.D. Willett found that death was due to a heart attack and not from drowning, as no water was found in his lungs.  Mr. Ruff left his farm hone early in the morning to drive to the Stickel farm.  Feeling faint, it is believed, that he got out of the car and was stricken at the pool of water.

Mr. and Mrs. Stickel on returning from Jamestown in the late afternoon saw the Ruff car at some distance and thought that the deceased, whom they had expected, had gone to the farm for gasoline.  Reaching home they found that Mr. Ruff had not been at the farm.  On investigation Mr. Stickel found the body in the water.

There was a large attendance at the funeral service held in the Congregational church at Fredonia yesterday afternoon, Rev. Hoersch officiating.  Burial was in the Fredonia cemetery.  The body was at the Willett Mortuary here until Wednesday morning.

Pallbearers were Dan Flaig, Christ Wold, Fred Hiller, Matt Schlecht, Sam Ensalen, Rudolph Burkle.

Mr. Ruff was born June 11, 1861, in South Russia, where his marriage occurred to Wilhelmina Miller, mother of six children.  After her death he married Fredricka Scheffermeyer and to them were born seven sons and daughters.  In 1899 after the death of his wife Mr. Ruff and children came to the United States residing for a time near Kulm.  He took a homestead near Fredonia where they lived for about seven years, then moved to a farm four and one-half miles northwest of that town, which had since been his home.  He married to Magdalene Widmer of that community, who is deceased as is also his fourth wife Mrs. Wilhelmina Ruff, who died two years ago.

Nine of his thirteen sons and daughters survive.  They are Jacob Jr., Mrs. Andrew Kensler, Kulm; John, Mildred, Mont., Edward, Marsh, Mont., Reinhold, Gackle, Mrs. Reinhold Kreil and Mrs. Christ Stickel, Sydney, N.D., Christian, near Jamestown, and Otto of Fredonia.  A son Fred, died at Mildred, Mont. in 1935, a daughter, Mrs. David Brost, ............ Jerome Ruff, 42, Gackle, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, near Gackle from injuries suffered in a farming accident.

Mr. Ruff was born Dec. 22, 1954, in Gackle, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Bismarck (N.D.) State College in 1975. On Oct. 1, 1976, he married Lydena Henke in Gackle. They farmed near Gackle. He worked for Central Grasslands Research Station near Streeter, N.D. He drove school bus in Gackle for 20 years.

Levurn Ruff, 65, Jamestown, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Ruff was born April 3, 1936, near Kulm, N.D., the son of John and Magdalena (Springer) Ruff. He grew up on the family farm and received his education from rural schools. He married Sandra Eckman Jan. 14, 1963, in Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Wishek, N.D., where he worked for the Wishek Steel plant and for Farmers Union. He also operated his own welding shop. He was later employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad and Haybusters, Jamestown, in 1978. In 1979 the family moved to Jamestown. He retired in 1995. He worked for the Jamestown Park and Recreation for two years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and playing his guitar and accordion.

He is survived by his wife; six daughters, Val (Rick) Mickelson, Bonnie (Todd) Page, Michelle (Keith) Schumacher, Teresa (Ben) Kennelly, and Bridgette (Chad) Altringer, all Jamestown, and Marcy Deede, Wishek; three sons, Steve (Dawn), West Fargo, N.D., Brett (Amy), Bismarck, N.D., and John, Jamestown; four sisters, Delores (Alvin) Entzi, Fredonia, N.D., Mable (Alvin) Pfal, Aberdeen, and Pearl Eldridge and Viola (Edwin) Reiser, both New Rockford, N.D.; a brother, LeRoy (Sadie), Ashley, N.D.; special friends, Harley and Zelda Herr, Jamestown; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clarence Ruff.

Pauline Ruff, 97, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Elim Care Center, Fargo.

Pauline Erbele was born June 26, 1907, on the family farm north of Lehr, N.D., the daughter of Andreas Sr. and Rosina (George) Erbele. She was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical United Brethren Church. While in her teens, she accepted the Lord at Lehr Tabernacle, east of Lehr. She attended a rural school in the Ketterling School District and high school at Ellendale, N.D. She married Edward Ruff of Fredonia, N.D., on Dec. 28, 1927, at her parents’ home. They farmed northwest of Fredonia. In 1966 they retired and moved to Fredonia. He died in 1985. She moved to Edgeley, N.D., in l990, and several years later moved to Park East Apartments, Fargo. Two years later she moved to Park View Terrace, Moorhead, Minn. She entered Elim Care Center, Fargo, in June. She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, where she was active in the ALCW and sang in the church choir. After moving to the Fargo-Moorhead area, she attended Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, visits, crocheting, cooking, baking and word-find puzzles.

She is survived by three daughters, Idella (Wayne) Wilson and Carol (Roger) Azzam, both Fargo, and Merrlyn Meland (El Knoell), Elbow Lake, Minn.; two sons, Darrel (Etala), Willmar, Minn., and Larry (Sharon), Wishek, N.D.; a sister, Martha Slaughter, Ripon, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; seven brothers; a daughter, Arleen; two grandsons, Brian and Gregory Ruff; three sons-in-law, Clifford Schott, Wallace Meland and Marvin Mayer; and an infant brother and sister.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, with the Rev. Annette Crickenberger officiating.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Korsmo Funeral Home, Moorhead, with the Rev. David Motta officiating.

Roland E. Ruff, 74, Jamestown, N.D., formerly Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in Jamestown Hospital.

Mr. Ruff was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Fredonia, N.D., where he attended school. He graduated from Gackle High School in 1943. On June 8, 1952, he married Eugenia Zenker in Gackle, where they farmed. She died in 1967. On Jan. 1, 1968, he married Alma Dewald in Streeter, N.D. They farmed near Gackle until September 1997, when they moved to Jamestown.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Wade (Kathy) Dewald, Des Moines, Iowa; three daughters, Doreen (Jim) Mickleson, Audubon, Minn., Daphne (Don) Kane, Fargo, Claudia (Ritchie) Wolf, Jamestown; two sisters, Mable (Edwin) Mayer, ...

Rudolph Ruff, 93, Jamestown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Ruff was born Sept. 3, 1911, west of Fredonia, Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Fred and Bertha (Karius) Ruff. He attended the local rural school, grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. He married Esther Krueger on July 15, 1935, in Lehr, N.D. In 1934, he purchased a store at Guyson, N.D. He was postmaster from 1934 to 1947, when they moved to Fredonia. He worked at Economy Store and other places. He was a rural mail carrier from 1950 until he retired in 1969. They moved to Jamestown in 1997. They spent 15 winters in Lodi, Calif. He was a member of Nazareth Congregational Church, Fredonia, where he served as trustee, and later First Congregational Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed sports.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Leona (Arven) Janke, Kulm, N.D., Joan (LeMore) Hehr, Gackle, N.D., Josephine (Larry) Bietz, Valley City, N.D., and Vivian Giannuzzi, Syracuse, N.Y.; a son, Charles, Fargo, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Ost; and four brothers, Reinhold, Gust, Edward and Wilbert.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, First Congregational Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Sharon Mersedus Ruff, 63, Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at her home under hospice care.

Sharon Hochhalter was born Sept. 17, 1943, at Wishek, the daughter of Theodore and Ida (Gehring) Hochhalter. She grew up and attended school in Wishek. She then worked at the Red Owl in Wishek. She married Larry Ruff on Jan. 17, 1961, at Wishek. They lived on the Ruff farm near Fredonia, N.D., where they farmed. They lived in Oakes, N.D., from 1964 to 1969. They then returned to the farm near Fredonia. They moved into Wishek in 1998. She worked at the Wishek Community Hospital in the dietary department from 1990 until her death. She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Fredonia, where she taught Sunday school for many years and later St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Club, Wishek. She enjoyed writing and had several of her articles published in magazines.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Rodell (Melissa), Loveland, Colo., Keith (Shelley), Monticello, Minn., and Doug (Jocelyn), Wishek; a sister, Betty (Joe) Torez, Bloomington, Minn.; seven brothers, Dermot (Diane) and Terry, both West Fargo, N.D., Stan (Joy), Ronan, Mont., Dennis (Peggy), Shakopee, Minn., Ronnie, Rosemount, Minn., and Jim and Don (Lora), both Wishek; eight grandchildren; and a special friend, Carrie Nitschke, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Gregory, and her parents.

Memorial service: 10:30 a. m. Thursday, St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek.

David Rutschke, 89, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Rutschke was born Dec. 14, 1913, at Wirch, N.D., the son of John and Julia (Braun) Rutschke. He grew up and attended rural school in the Kulm area. In May 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II in the European-African-Middle East Theater with the 335th Engineers. He was honorably discharged from active duty on Oct. 21, 1945. He married Gertrude Kast on Aug. 29, 1948, in Ashley, N.D. The couple began farming together in Spring Valley Township near Kulm until they retired in 1978 and moved into Kulm.

He is survived by his wife; a son, James (Pat), Kulm; a daughter, Linda (Howard) Schultz, Fredonia, N.D.; a brother, William, Ellendale, N.D.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Ted, and two sisters, Edna and Molly.

Services: held Sunday, Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, with the Rev. Nels Lillejord officiating.
Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Burial: Ellendale City Cemetery, Ellendale.

Anne Marie Ryan, 84, Yankton, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steven Kocher, Douglas Kocher, David Kocher, Charles Kocher, Kelly Kocher, Charles Ryan and Dennis Schwiepers.
Visitation is from 1-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m.

She was born July 26, 1916, at Gackle, N.D., to Charles and Stella (Vlasak) Kocher. She grew up on a farm near LaMoure, graduating from high school at Marion, N.D. She enrolled in nurse's training at Sacred Heart Hospital in 1938. She married James Ryan June 18, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband. They had four children and also raised a niece from birth. She had been a resident at the Avera Yankton Care Center since May 1999. Her husband died in February 2001.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the original April Circle, later to become the Madonna Circle, and a charter member of the Rosary Makers. She was a charter member of the Yankton Al-Anon Family Groups, formed in 1951, and continued to work with families of alcoholics until suffering a debilitating stroke in 1989.

She was an inspiration to her family and friends and will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature.

She is survived by a son, James (Judy), Yankton; daughters: Muriel (Keith) Cook, Mission Hill; Patty (Jim) Apodaca, Casper, Wyo.; and Judy Allison, Moberly, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, a grandson and a brother.
