Hannah Ross and Samuel Osbun

Samuel Osbun was born in February, 1781 to Samuel Osbun and Sarah Holmes Osbun. His father, Samuel, was a Revolutionary War Patriot and served in the Third Battalion, Washington County Militia in Pennsylvania. Samuel’s father and mother are buried in the Osbun/Pittenger Revolutionary War Cemetery in Weller Twp, Richland county, Ohio.

Hannah (Ross) Osbun was born on April 5, 1787. She is the daughter of John Ross, who was a Revolutionary War Patriot and served in the Pennsylvania Militia. Her mother was Charlotte Natcher Ross.

Hannah and Samuel were married on January 8, 1806 in Jefferson County, Ohio. Samuel died February 26, 1846 in Cadiz, Ohio (Harrison Co.). Hannah died November 15, 1828 in Cadiz, Ohio (Harrison Co.). Both are buried in the Old Cadiz Cemetery in Cadiz along with a few of their children.

There is a book called “To California and The South Seas – The Diary of Albert G. Osbun” written about Albert’s two year trip where he crosses the Isthmus of Panama and then travels by ship to California and eventually sails to the South Seas. He and his brother-in-law, Wilson Shannon (husband of Sarah), financed this trip. Albert died at Fort Scott on April 7, 1862 at age 54. Albert was married to Elizabeth Hawkins.

Mary Osbun married John Craig.

>Sarah Osbun married Wilson Shannon November 25, 1832 in Cadiz, Harrison Co., Ohio.

Wilson Shannon served as Governor of Ohio and of the Kansas Territory. He later practiced law in Kansas. There are bibliographies written about Wilson Shannon. Both Sarah and Wilson are buried in Kansas.

Martha Osbun married Rev. William Aikins.

Samuel Osbun married Agnes Mary Bukey October 20, 1847 in Ohio County, Va. (WV). Both are buried in the Salem Cemetery in Jackson Twp., Franklin, Co., Ohio.

John Osbun died when he was almost 20 years old and is buried in Cadiz Cemetery with his parents.

James Osbun was only an infant when he died at 8 months of age. He is buried with his parents at the Cadiz Cemetery in Cadiz, Ohio.

Charlotte was only an infant when she died at 6 months of age. She is buried with her parents at the Cadiz Cemetery in Cadiz, Ohio.
