5. Capt. Joseph2 Case (John1 Casse) was born in Hampton, Rockingham, NH 5 Oct 1656. Joseph died 6 Jul 1739 in Kensington, Rockingham, NH, at 82 years of age.
He married twice. He married Mary Hobbs in Hampton, Rockingham, NH, 4 Jan 1676/1677.(20) Mary was born 11 Sep 1657. Mary(21) was the daughter of Thomas Hobbs. Mary died 3 Jul 1692 at 34 years of age. Daughter of Morris or Maurice or Thomas Hobbs.
He married Elizabeth Chase in Hampton, Rockingham, NH, after 1692.(22) Elizabeth was born 11 Jan 1656. Elizabeth(23) was the daughter of Henry Green and Mary. Elizabeth was a widow of James Chase - perhaps daughter of Henry. (See info on Isaac Green) James Chase was a cousin of her husband, Joseph Cass. Her maiden name was Green. Joseph's occupation was selectman/Jury for Hampton, NH from 1707 to 1717.
Captain Joseph Cass was a veteran of King Philip's War. He was paid for his services sterling 3 pounds, 8 shillings, 6 pence on August 24, 1676. He was given half of his father's homestead in the Will. He was also a taxpayer in Hampton Falls in 1709. He is known to have died after 1718, as he was named in a land deal by his brother Ebenezer in that year. The Genealogical Register of the New Hampshire State Papers shows that he joined the State Militia after King Philip's War. It also shows that he served as a Commander therein and went on many expeditions against the Indians. The State Legislature paid him lump sums of money which he doled out to the troops who accompanied him. He also resisted paying taxes to the Mason family - the descendants of John Mason who owned New Hampshire. The records are replete with his and his brother Samuel's activities also against the Crown. Joseph was also a Selectman for Hampton for the period of 1707-1717. The records indicated that he was on one Louisbourg expedition. Joseph married Elizabeth Green Chase, the widow of James Chase after 1692 - he and James were cousins. Her father was believed to have been Judge Henry Green who left a Will with bequests to her children who were unnamed in the Will - a copy of which is in the NH Archives. Therefore it is not certain how many of the children of Joseph's second marriage were his naturally or by adoption. The Will just refers to the children of the widow Elizabeth Green Chase.
Joseph may have died on a Louisbourg Expedition on 6 Jul 1739 as part of the NH militia.
