Email from Phillip Gisby to Ronald R Caseby, through Kent Family HistorySociety on 29/10/1998;
"Thanks for your e-mail - and I'm not aware (so far) of any connections[between CASEBY, by misspelling to KISBY and to GISBY as I had suggested).
When following up on my surname, I've picked up on different endings, butnot looked out for what could be similar sounding ones. I've not comeacross anything to make me think of that when following a
particular line.
What I have so far has taken me back to the early 1600's, where thereseems to be a possible change from GISBONNE-GISBON-GISB(E)Y. The majorityof my findings have been in Thanet, but I have not looked in detail atother East Kent locations.
I would be interested to know what line your Dover records produced. As amatter of interest I did note a couple of Baptisms from the 1992 I.G.Ifrom Dover: 29 Sept.1587 Thomas Gasebye - son of John, and, 30 July 1588John Gasebye - son of John.
I don't have a connection to these myself but you might know somethingabout them.
Thanks for the enquiry - and it will be interesting to see what mightcome from this. Regards, Phil Gisby(phil@gizz.demon.co.uk)"[Testing98.ftw]

Sandwich has three parish churches, of which two are now redundant, the
parishes having been merged in 1948.
St Mary's, St Peters and St Clements all show evidence of having began
as sizeable Norman buildings - a testament to the early importance of
the port of Sandwich that it had sufficient population to sustain three
parishes at that time.
