Wollschlager Genealogy Traveling from Germany to the United States

Although this family is not directy related to me (other than my *mother married into the family)
I consider this to be more of a family lineage than my own.  I hope it helps someone find their lost relatives.

Descendants of August Weslager *indicates direct lineage Generation No. 1 1. *A UGUST1 WESLAGER1 was born 15 Aug 1852 in Gross Kommorsk, West Prussia, Germany. and died 22 Aug 1913 in Pennsylvania. He married CATHARINE  WALTER. She was born Jun 1856 in Germany and died 24 Apr 1908 in Pennsylvania. The letter was from C.E. Weslager of Hokessin, Delaware and it found it's way to me through a cousin of mine. Mr. Weslager writes:      ... " We are descended from the Wollschlaegers (spelled with 'A' umlaut) who lived in the 'Kreis' or district of Schwetz in the province of West Prussia. My grandfather ( August Wollschlaeger) and my great grandfather ( Heinrich Wollschlaeger) were both born in the farm village called Gross Komorsk. They were Lutherans and my grandfather was baptized in the town of Neuenburg. My great-grandfather and my great-great grandfather (Peter Wollschlaeger) were all property owners in West Prussia. My grandfather left home at an early age and came to America in 1881. He lived in the Beltzhoover section of Pittsburgh (PA) and raised a large family. The family name became modified, not by intent, but inadvertently when August's children started school. In the 1900 census, the family was legally recorded under the name Weslager." I hope this is of some help - As far as I have been able to determine the Wollschlaeger name may have originated in Switzerland. I don't have a good idea of the exact migration patterns but I know that families came to America from both Alsace-Lorrain and from the Rheinland-Pfaltz region of present day Germany and settled in the Pittsburgh, PA area. They also immigrated to West Prussia as indicated by Mr. Weslagers letter. There were also Hessian soldiers who defected during the Revolution when were named Wollschlaeger. I have found 19 variant spellings of the name just in church records in Eastern PA., including my ancestor whose name became americanized to Woolslayer. Perhaps you will find some further bit of your puzzle in the Parish records of the Schwetz district of West Prussia. Good luck!
