1910 U. S. Federal Census
Obviously the census enumerator was confused. Perhaps the number of children caused some confusion. All children shown above had the same father. The first four children are shown with a father born in Alabama. The last six are shown to have a father born in Mississippi. Perhaps the enumerator thought that the six children were step-children. At any rate, the census is incorrect in that regard. Also, although not shown here, the 1910 census asked the question, is the individual "a veteran of the Civil War"? Only positive answers were entered in the appropriate column, otherwise, it is left blank. For James Robert, the column is blank. That, of sourse, does not mean that James Robert did not serve in the Civil War, it simply means that who ever gave the answers possibly did not know. So, we do not know for sure. It would have been helpful, if he had served, if the column was checked yes. But, who said it was going to be easy.
