ADOLPH, Elmira

The Elk City Sun, Vol. 145, Number 2, Elk City, Montgomery County, Kansas, Friday, July 11, 1947, Front Page

Mrs. Elmira Adolph, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Saul, was born April 7, 1871, in South Dakota, and departed this life at her home in Elk City on July 8, 1947, age 76 years, 3 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to George Adolph at Hamilton, S. D. on July 20, 1890. The first 30 years of their married life they spent in South Dakota. In 1920 they came to Kansas and located at Alma; later moving to Elk City where she had spent the last 20 years of her life. Her husband and four children preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing eight children: Henry, Caldwell, Idaho; George, Manhattan, Kans.; Mrs. Maggie Smith, Melvern, Kans.; John, Independence, Kans.; Elmer, Bushong, Kans.; Mrs. Lula Martin, Allen, Kans.; Mrs. Helen Thompson, Junction City, Kans.; Hubert, Elk City; grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

About six years ago she united with the Church of the Nazarene, where she had been a faithful member.

The community will extend sympathy to the children in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Nazarene church and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. F. Twining. A goodly number of relatives and friends were in attendance. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.

A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
A loving one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
God in His wisdom hath recalled
His boon His love is given.
Although the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in Heaven.
