Note: Delmar had left hishome early that morning to pickup a load of steel. On his return, Delmar, who had apparently been drinking, lost control on an exit ramp. The truck jacknifed and the steel load shifted and crushed the cab. There was an error in notifying the family. Carolyne Reeves Klink heard about the accident on a readio station and called Delmar's son Gene Taylor to see if what she had heard was true. Soo afterward, Gene was called to go to Trumbull Memorial Hospital to identify his father. Because of his condition, Gene wouldn't let his mother Edna see Delmar.
