Phineas Carman's Bible 1829

Transcribed by Marian Cranford

Marian's descendant tree for this line here
Marian Cranford sent the following transcription of some xerox copies of pages from Phineas Carman's Bible which her aunt had given her.
"They seem to have been copied & recopied, and in places are difficult, and rarely, impossible, to read. The handwriting is beautiful, but different (the S's for instance) Also, when something is abbreviated (a month, e.g., there's a little symbol above the end of the word. I've omitted these symbols, not being able to duplicate them. I've copied the pages, and have indicated where I have questions or can't read at all." "I do not have the Bible, nor access to it -- this is all I do have. Wish I had more to share, but maybe this will help some.

I've received so much help from everyone, It's great to have a little something to offer."

(From Phineas Carman Bible)

"DIED

"At the residence of her son, Lewis Carman, near
New ____wick, on the 11th inst., Mrs. Huldah Carman,
widow of Phineas carman, at the Patri-ichal age of 86.
"[She had waited hopefully fully prepared when the
summons came. A rare example of christian meekness
and humility, the sorest afflictions were borne in an
unmurmuring silence and resignation. In all the
relations of life, the utmost fidelity to duty, the most
affectionate concern for others, unwearied care for her
household, were her distinguished traits.

Seeking retirement always, her light shone mildly but
unremittingly in the domestic family circle; and most
dear to all who thus knew her will be her memory.
Remembering her Creator in the days of her youth, her
whole life bore unequivocal testimony that she had
chosen the good part, and that her highest enjoyment,
as well as most sacred duty, was in serving her Lord
and Master.]

"----------------------------------"

In St. Louis Mo., on the 4th instant, Mrs. Julia Ann
Mundy, wife of Mr.Ezra Mundy, aged 45 years.
"Mrs. M. was the youngest daughter of the late Major
Phineas Carman, and emigrated to the West with her
family some twelve years ago.

"We believe she lived and died in the Faith of the
G__ __el_. A short time before her decease, she
received the intelligence of the death of her aged
mother, with that tranquility which characterizes
the christian under such circumstances, and remarked,
that it was an event she had been expecting to hear
for some time, and hoped they would soon meet in that
happy world, where they would part no more.
