Excerpts from LONG ISLAND GENEALOGY

Mary Powell Bunker's "Long Island Genealogy" was originally published in 1895 and has been reprinted and is also available on an LDS microfilm. The scans show her style. She does not speculate about John Carman's English origens, nor add generation numbers for the references from the Hempstead Town Records.

Contemporary researchers have not found any documents showing that John Carman was in Wethersfield or New Haven, but these statements are commonly found in previously compiled genealogies, since many early Hempstead residents had been living there.

Mrs. Powell was born in 1820 and I found her deferential introductory statement quite charming.

The work includes many families, including her own Seaman line. .
