Wiley Barnes Roberts and second
wife Susie Temperance May are buried inside this brick wall. Just to the left of the brick wall there are two stones, one near the head, one near the foot. I have a very stong feeling that this is the grave of Wiley's first wife, Georgia Anna Phelps. It is extremely close to Wiley's grave and there are no marked graves to the immediate left of what I believe to be Georgia Anna's grave. Georgia Anna is not listed in the Meriwether County, Georgia cemetery book as being buried anywhere else. This is the cemetery of the church where the Roberts were founding members. Wiley's parents are buried near him as are his siblings and children.
Since initially locating this grave I
have had contact with a granddaughter of Wiley Barnes Roberts who has confirmed that this is indeed the grave of Wiley's first wife, Georgia Anna Phelps. |
