According to an Extract of an entry in the Register of Births from the Parish of Cumbernauld, Dumbarton County, Scotland, Janet WHITE was the illegitimate child of coal miner John White and weaver Mary Smith. Her birth was registered in the Parish March 13, 1866. At the time of her marriage to James Findlay, her occupation was listed as "domestic servant."

AMES "DICK" FINDLAY:
It is reported that Dick, a fun-loving, n'er-do-well and life-long bachelor, was remembered for his legendary antics. Though he was said to be a harmless and endearing soul, he also had a way of getting himself into all kinds of trouble. Robert Bryson, a friend and perhaps occasional partner in crime, penned poems in pure Scottish style which memorialize some of Dick's adventures.
