Theodore DuPre, Richland Pioneer, Died Early Sunday
Funeral Tuesday Morning, With Burial in Hayes Cemetery

Theodore DuPre, a pioneer of Tama county, died at his home in Richland twp,
southeast of Tama, early Sunday at the age of 82 years. Funeral services
were held Tuesday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Tama with the
Rev. A.P. Meyer in charge. Burial was in the Hayes cemetery northeast of
Tama. Casket bearers were Charles Earnest, Ben Metz and William Earnest, of
Tama, and James Ryan, Oscar Baker and Emil Vajnar, of Chelsea.

Native of New York

Mr. DuPre, the son of John and Rose DuPre' (Jean Pierre DuPre'), was born
February 20, 1851, in Erie county, New York. When a boy of twelve, he came
to Tama county with his parents. A year later, when he was 13 years old, he
had the misfortune to lose his left leg. Last summer, sixty-nine years
later, it became necessary to amputate his left arm because of injuries
caused by long use of a crutch.

Mr. DuPre' was a resident of Tama county for almost seventy years. One year
of his life was spent in Kansas. For a period of twenty-four years he taught
school in Tama and adjoining counties. He was united in marriage with Edith
Lyman on October 14, 1895 and four children were born to this union. One of
them, a son, died in infancy. For eleven years the couple farmed the DuPre'
homestead east of Tama. In 1909 they moved to a farm four and one-half miles
southwest of Chelsea known as the Zell Day place. On this farm Mr. DuPre'
resided until his death.

Daughter, Sons in Toledo.

He was a highly trusted and respected citizen, a man of sound judgment well
versed in current topics. A faithful husband and father, he was interested
most in the welfare of his family.

Surviving him are his widow, a daughter, Mrs. LaVonne Kesal, of Toledo, and
two sons, Alvin, of Toledo, and Marvin, at home. He also leaves a sister,
Mrs. Frank Reyhons, of Tama, and two brothers, Frank, of Spokane,
Washington, and Celestine, of Toledo. There are nine grandchildren.
