Individual Note:
     John Hacker, third child and youngest son of William and Ann (Turner)
Hacker, was born in Frederick County, Virginia. In 1768 he made a
prospecting trip to West Virginia, and moved to West Virginia in 1769. In
1771 he returned to Virginia and brought his parents back with him. John
Hacker first settled in the Buchannon, where Bush's Fort was afterwards
established. He later moved twelve miles away, and established his home
on "Hacker's Creek." He died near Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia,
in the fall of 1824, and was buried in a little graveyard on the home
place on Hacker's Creek.

Rita Martha was born in kentucky but ended up in Hamiltion Co. Ohio.
    Samuels parents were Enoch and Elizabeth (Wells) Silvers. Elisabeth
left Enoch. Enoch and he came to Iowa, married Mary Hayes. ...

In 1853 Enoch Silvers had a plot of ground surveyed and laid out in lots for a town called Marysville in Competine Township - named after his wife Mary. There was another Marysville in southeast Iowa. The two towns presented mail difficulties so the Competine Township Marysville was changed to Competine. Competine is close to Wapello County, and Jefferson County line. Brookeville is east a short distance in Jefferson County. A post office was started in Competine village area in 1851.

born November 13, 1841 and died of tuberculosis in 1867. She married
William Henry Osborne.

William Henry Osborne. William was born about 1835 and was killed in
the Civil War Battle of Winchester, VA September 19, 1864. He married
Rulina West.
       William was a Corporal in Co C 10th WV Volunteer Infantry
(USA).

Individual Note:
     Thomas West, a son of Alexander Jr. and Mary , was born in Jackson
County Va (WV) October 5, 1823 and died in Clay County WV May 7, 1899.
Thomas married Rusha Aurelia Spencer in Roane County VA (WV). Rusha
was born about 1825 and died in Roane County in June 1861.
       Thomas enlisted in the Union Army, Co.G 9th WV Volunteer
Infantry at Spencer, Roane County VA (WV) September 30, 1861. He
married Nancy Jane Haley at Spencer January 7, 1862. Nancy was a
daughter of Samuel and Virginia Haley.
       Thomas returned from a patrol to Gauley Bridge sick in August
1862. He was discharged in the fall of 1862 as unfit for duty.

in 1876 and died in 1914. John was a half brother of Margaret's
mother.

Granville W. West farmer on Vandale Fork, 1890, was born in Lewis Co., WV, near Weston Feb. 9, 1844 one of the five sons of Edward and Julia Ann (Sleeth) West, natives, descendants of Wests' early settlers of Hacker's Creek.
Edward being a son of John West...a son of Alexander and ______Hughes, who was a sister of Jesse and Elias Hughes of border warfare fame. The other brothers of Granville were as follows: Mansfield, Warden, William and James Farnsworth West.
Granville served as a volunteer in the Union armies through the Civil War and was a member of the Spencer G. A. R. while living there.
He married in 1864, Nancy King daughter of William in Lewis Co., WV. They lived in Lewis Co. until 1890 when they moved to Roane Co. where he purchased 120 acres on Vandal Fork of Spring Creek. They reared their family there consisting of five sons and one daughter.

Cora F. Hicks, 80, of Chloe, died Saturday, Mar. 23, 1996, at the
residence of her daughter in Mineral Wells.
She was born in Milo, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Ormo W.
and Cordelia West Rinehart. She was a homemaker and attended Walker
United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six sons, Gene Hicks of Ohio, Jarrett Hicks of
Statesville, N.C., Carroll "Buck" Hicks of Orma, Edward Hicks, Donnie
Hicks and Forest Hicks, all of Chloe; five daughters, Frances Edman
of Parkersburg, Sue Sampson of Mineral Wells, Gwendolyn Simmons of
Minnora, Patricia Siers of Chloe and Margaret Lantz of Mt. Clare; one
sister, Mildred Lyons of Akron; one halfbrother, Willard Rinehart of
Florida; 34 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Iras Hicks; one daughter,
Mary Parsons; three brothers; and one grandson.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in
Clark Jarvis Cemetery, Chloe.
