The following obituaries are from the Tuscola County Michigan which is located in the thumb area. Information on these Web Pages is to be used only for genealogical research or information. I have tried to include which newspaper I transcribed each obituary from, although I didn't save that information for each one. They are all from the Bay City Times, Saginaw News, Huron Tribune, Tuscola County Advertiser, & Vassar Pioneer Times. I have also included some from the funeral cards of people I have a personal interest in. And a special Thank You to everyone that has sent me obituaries and ask that I include them on this site.

Community Mourns Loss of Respected Pioneer Attorney
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for John C. Corkins, prominent civic leader and Cass City attorney. Mr. Corkins died at the Pleasant Home hospital Friday afternoon, Nov. 7, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He had been a member of the Cass City community for 49 years, coming to Cass City in 1903 as a partner in the Broker and Corkins law firm. During his many years here, Mr. Corkins became a respected leader in the community. He served as village president, justice of the peace, postmaster, and president of the fair association. He was one of the original stockholders of the first phone company of Cass City. Mr. Corkins was a member of the Tuscola County Bar Association and the oldest practicing attorney in the county. He was born in Ypsilanti May 4, 1873, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Corkins. He married Miss Minnie Fell October 14, 1903 in Brookville, Penn and the couple lived in Caro a short time. Three children Helen, Ivan and Lucille were born before Mrs. Corkins died Feb. 5, 1911. After the death of the first wife, Mr. Corkins married Miss Lena E. Muck March 20, 1912. Five children were born to the couple: Maxine, Jack, Gene, Hazel and Shirley. Mrs. Corkins died Nov. 22, 1931. He is buried in the Elkland Cemetary


ENTIRE COMMUNITY WAS SADDENED
Mrs. J.C. Corkins
died suddenly Sunday. Will be missed in the Church and by Neighbors and by Friends. Like a bolt of lightning from a clear sky came the news of the sudden death of Mrs. John C. Corkins at her home Sunday afternoon, and the entire community was saddened at the thought of the death of one of the most beautiful and highly respected residents of the village. On Sunday morning Mrs. Corkins entered the scared realm of motherhood and she and her tiny babe passed away shortly after noon. Everything that human hands and hearts could do was done to save the lives, two physicians being in attendance. The cause of death was one known as placenta prevae and immediate cause was shock caused by severity of labor. For a time it seemed as though she would recover but her heart failed her entirely three hours after the birth of the child. Minnie F. Corkins, 31 years of age was born in Rawsonville, Wayne County, Michigan, August 19, 1879. She was married to John C. Corkins at Brookville, Pa., Oct. 14, 1903 and came to Cass City to reside about seven years ago, where Mr. Corkins is a member of the law firm of Brooker & Corkins. Her maiden name was Miss Minnie Fell. Mrs. Corkins was a member of the N.E. church at Cass City and a women of beautiful character, ennobled by Christian experience. Her life was one worthy of emulation by every person who knew her, and she was best known for her kindly deeds and high standard of living. She leaves three little children: Helen, and Ivan, 6 years old and Lucile, 5 years; also the following relatives: Mr and Mrs, Wm. Fell, her parents, of Detroit; and the following brothers and sisters: Leonard and Don Fell of Detroit; Robert Fell of Pontiac; Wm Fell, Jr., of Chicago; Miss Alice Fell and Mrs. James Hope of Detroit. Funeral service were held at the M.E. church Wednesday afternoon during which every business place in the village was closed. A large number of friend gathers to pay their respects to the deceased. Rev. W.B. Weaver, the pastor had charge of the services. The casket was entirely hidden beneath beautiful flowers in mute testimony of the respect and sympathy extended by the friends of the family. The pall bearers were: F. A. Bigelow, L.I. Wood, A.H. Higgins, T.L. Tibbals, E.W. Keating and C.L. Robinson. The burial took place in Elkland cemetery.


Flora Earline Hamilton, 85, of Greenville, died Tuesday afternoon at Greenville Health and Rehab Center. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Strand officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan. Born in Caro on Aug. 24, 1915, she was the daughter of Clayton Winder and Laura Watson Winder. She was married to Frank Hamilton on Oct. 10, 1959 in Dallas. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mineral Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Rickey Dale Henderson of Greenville, a sister, Betha Lea Reynolds of Mesquite and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; brothers Marvin Winder and Odis Winder and sisters Effie Honea, Jessie Harris, Nanea Payne, Rozine Henderson and Frauline McCrary. Pallbearers are Roy Hunter, Ralph Webb, Slenn Wells, Raymond Turner, Danny Gandy and Jeff Puckett.


Jenetta Fern Harrison, of East Tawas, formerly a Vassar resident of 45 years, passed away on January 11 at the age of 88 years. She was born on May 13, 1918 in Millington to Orville and Martha (nee Pohr) Cobb. She attended high school and graduated from Millington High School. Jenetta married her husband, John Caleb Harrison on June 8, 1939 in Ohio and then moved to Vassar where together they owned and operated Johnny’s Food Shop for 33 years. After they sold the grocery store, Jenetta went to work for Gilchrist Drug Store in Vassar for a couple of years until retiring and moving to the Tawas area. She had many interests in life, especially cooking and baking, fishing and traveling with her husband and enjoying spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jenetta is survived by her two daughters, Fern (Gale) Wojahn of East Tawas and Sandra (Harry) Birk of Vassar; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Vern) Long, Greg Birk, Jeff (Lori) Wojahn, Rob (Tyra) Birk, Becky (Rich) Storrow and Chris (Beth) Wojahn; 14 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Shane, Tyler, Abbey, Courtney, Caitlin, Luke, Carley, Kelsey, Sammy, Daniel and Joshua; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Johnson of Standish and Eva Schiefer of Millington; and one sister-in-law, Helen Jones of Florida. Jenetta is preceded in death by her husband John Caleb on August 1, 2000, one brother, Cecil Cobb, one sister, Betty Jacob and one brother-in-law, Hilbert Schiefer. Funeral services were held on January 14 with burial at the Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas. Vassar Pioneer Times


Clayton Orson Hiser, 81, of Brooksville, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Oak Hill Hospital. He was born in Caro, Mich., and moved to this area 20 years ago from Caro. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include two sons, Orson C. of Mulberry and Edwin of Caro; three daughters, Carol Baker of Standish, Mich., Shirley Zissler of Bridgeport, Mich., and Roberta Holcomb of Caro; three sisters, Nellie Hooker and Alice Faye Orban, both of Arizona, and Gertrude Schweigert of Brooksville; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Turner Funeral Homes, Brooksville Chapel.


Linda Marth, Frankenmuth, died Monday, January 15, at Independence Village. Age 97 years; Linda Gaeth was born February 21, 1909, in Unionville to the late August and Lena (Schoening) Gaeth. She was married to Wilhelm Marth on July 10, 1938; he preceded her in death April 1, 1991. Linda worked at Montgomery Ward for several years and later at Hudson’s in Detroit. She was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Surviving are three brothers, Wilbert Gaeth of Unionville, Frederick Gaeth of Pigeon and Norbert (Thelma) Gaeth, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Hannah Neumann, Emma Beitz, Meta Gaeth and Oscar Gaeth. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate, with burial in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Linda’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin Street, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Abbie Schwaderer O'Kelly, a former elementary teacher for the Marlette school district, died in her sleep Sunday in the home of her daughter, Denise Forrest. Born in Valier, Montana on December 11, 1916, she moved to Kingston, Michigan where she spent her entire childhood, graduating from the Kingston school system. She was married to the former Dennis O'Kelly. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Tom DeForrest of Portage, Michigan; her son, Mike O'Kelly and his wife Shirley of Moab, Utah; her brother and his wife, Clark and Margaret Schwaderer of Boca Raton, Florida; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be buried next to her husband in the Kingston Cemetery on Wednesday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m.
