Better Educationnl Qualifications Are Being Required
Twenty-six of ,the 47 who filed petitions for naturalization in Tuscola
County and had their hearings last week at Caro before Harold J.
Hart from the Detroit office of the emigration and naturalization service, passed ,their preliminary examination and will appear at the first day of court at the December term when naturalization hearings will be continued. Of the 21 who were unsuccessful at the preliminary hearing last week, three or four of them could not read nor write in the English language. Examinations of aliens are gradually becoming more difficult and better educational qualifications are being required than in former years. This Unusually Large Group Will Be Heard at May Term of Court.
Examiner Ben C. Shapero of the Detroit office of the Emigration
and Naturalization Dept. was in Tuscola County Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday interviewing persons who are interested in becoming
United States citizens. Thirty-two have filed petitions for naturalization and these will be heard on the first day of the May term of circuit court. This is, one of the largest groups to file petitions in the county. This is not unusual, according to Examiner Shapero, who stated that an increased interest in citizenship matters is being manifested in all parts of the state. The following list obtained from
