Arlene H. Ackerman, Mayville, Michigan. Died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center Harrison at the age of 82. Mrs. Ackerman was born January 8, 1922 in Remus, Michigan to William and Merle (Goodsell) Hewlett. Leland Ackerman and Arlene were united in marriage on May 30, 1940 in Lakeview, Michigan. Mrs. Ackerman retired from Caro Regional Center as a supervisor of Cottage 10 in 1984. She was a member of the Juanita Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, along with cooking and baking. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Theodore and wife Althea Ackerman of Mayville; a daughter, Diane Ackerman of Mayville; grandchildren, Christy and David Rayl of Caro; and Leland Ackerman of Mayville; a great- grandson, Robert Rayl of Caro; sisters, Emily Briggs of Vassar and Betty and husband Lester St. Clair of Vassar; brother-in- law, William and wife Alice Ackerman of Vassar; sister-in-law, Elnora and husband Carl Brock of Caro; sister-in-law, Margaret Schemm of Richville and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Ackerman in 1999, a sister, Marvel Wheelock in 1996, and a brother, Donald Hewlett in 1999. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Juanita Baptist Church in Vassar with Rev. Dr. Richard Flanders officiating. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Vassar from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Ruth Ahrns, of Reese, died Sunday morning, January 18, 2004 at Tendercare of Frankenmuth. Age 94 years. She was born April 1, 1909 in Tuscola County Michigan, daughter of the late Julius and Nettie (Falkenhagen) Wehrman. On November 8, 1930 she was married to Arthur Elmer Ahrns in Bay City. He predeceased her November 28, 1996. Mrs. Ahrns was employed as a cook for many years with the Reese Public Schools until her retirement. She was a life member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese, enjoyed traveling, and spent many years with her husband wintering in Florida. Her other enjoyment was playing cards and she was a member of several area card clubs. Surviving is her daughter, Geraldine Liebknecht of Reese, three grandsons, Kurt Liebknecht and his wife Debra of Apopka, FL., Brad Liebknecht of Orland, FL., and Barry Liebknecht of Hopkinton MA. and three great grandchildren, Wayne, Kevin and Tyler. In addition to her parents and husband, four brothers Rueben, John, Ernest and Carl Wehrman predeceased Ruth. ~SERVICES~Funeral and committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004 from the Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. Velma Irene Albert, Millington, Michigan. Died Monday, March 22, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center Harrison. Age 81 years. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, Rev. Timothy Bickel officiating. Burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Velma was born July 20, 1922 in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of the late Lewis and Julia C. (Grainger) Johns. She had resided in the Millington area most of her life. Velma married Richard Albert in 1955. He preceded her in death in October of 2002. She was employed with United Plastics in Vassar for 16 years and had served as a committee person with AIW-AFL/CIO. Velma was also a member of the Vassar Eagles. She enjoyed painting, crafts, woodworking, sewing and crocheting. Surviving are sons, Richard (Elaine) Albert of Aiken, S.C.; Mike (Vickie) Albert of Millington; stepson, Roy (Linda) Albert of Jackson, Mich.; six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren; brother, Dale Johns. Margaret Albrecht, Reese, Michigan Margaret Albrecht, age 90 years, died Wednesday evening, June 2, 2004 at Covenant Healthcare- Cooper Campus. She was born on January 5, 1914 in Essexville, daughter of the late Medard and Leontine (DeClerck) Bouckaert. She was united in marriage on July 13, 1940 to Arnold R. Albrecht. He predeceased her on February 26, 1992. Margaret was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Munger and had worked with her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters and their spouses: Janet and Richard Hillaker of Port Huron, Margaret and James Ellison of AuGres, Kathleen and David Reithel of Unionville, Carolyn Coffron of Frankenmuth; grandchildren, Susan (Brian) Duda, Kristen (Steven) Coon, Kevin (Amy) Reithel, Kent Reithel, Scott (Shannon) Reithel and 5 great grandchildren. Three brothers: Albert, Archie and Joseph Bouckaert and two sisters, Anna Edler and Mary Kucera, predeceased Mrs. Albrecht. Neva E. Albrecht, Owendale, Michigan Age 86 years, died Monday evening, November 1, 2004 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following a brief illness. She was born November 10, 1917 in Huron County, daughter of the late Alonzo and Dorothy (Mellendorf) Swick. She was united in marriage to Milden G. Albrecht on November 8, 1952 in Owendale. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2001. Neva had been employed at Automotive Industries in Owendale for several years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. She was an avid gardener and loved to sew. Surviving are 2 sons, one daughter: Lyle Albrecht, Bad Axe, Leslie Albrecht, Owendale, Patricia Seibel and fiance, Don Kearly, Sebewaing; 4 grandchildren: Tiffany (Jim) O'Hare, Joshua Seibel, Eric and David Albrecht; 3 great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Jacob and Abigail O'Hare; also one sister, Arlene Paul, Rochester; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Ziel, Port Austin; several nieces and nephews. Darold L. Allen, South Branch, formerly of Vassar, Died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at the age of 66. He was the husband of Elizabeth for 45 years; father of Connie (Mike) Stewart, Nancy Dombrowski, and Steve (Becky) Allen; grandfather of Tom, Jeremy, and Katrina Stewart, Emily and Eric Dombrowski, Steven LaVern, Frankie Lynn, Christian Michael and Ian James Allen; brother of Arnold (Sally) Allen, Donna Polan, Carol Sue (Emerson) Gardner and Beverly (Willis) Miller; also serveral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Leona Allen and siblings, Darlene Germain, Betty Miller, and Duane Allen. Darold enjoyed horseshoes and bingo. Conrad Amend Akron, Michigan Mr. Amend, age 85 years, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Tendercare in Frankenmuth. Conrad was born on August 13, 1918 in Vassar, the son of Michael and Katherine (Yuish) Amend. He and Emma Merten were united in marriage on November 15, 1941 in Munger. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Emma; daughter, Joyce 'JO' and husband, Tim Ewell of California; son, Ron and wife, Sandi Amend of Reese; 4 grandchildren: Christina, Ross, Kari and Alex; 2 great grandchildren, Sabrina and Lucas; brother, Mike Amend and sister, Katie Janson. Emma C. Amend Akron Died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at Bay Regional Medical Center, at the age of 83. Emma was born Feb. 25, 1921 in Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Gertrude (Tiese) Merten. She and Conrad Amend were united in marriage Nov. 15, 1941 in Munger. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2004. She owned and operated the Corner Inn in Akron. Emma had been a member of Sacred Heart Church in Caro and the Fairgrove VFW Ladies Auxiliary #7486. Surviving are her daughter, Joyce “Jo” and husband, Tim Ewell of Calif.; son, Ron and wife, Sandi Amend of Akron; four grandchildren, Christina, Ross, Kari and Alex; great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Paige and Lucas; sisters, Elizabeth Kruseneck and Alice Krueger. Dana Matthew Arnold, Vassar, Michigan. Died Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at home with his family. Age 39 years. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville, Mich. with Pastor Steve Beebe officiating. He was previously employed with Wholesale Tire Co. as a trucker. Dana was a member of Cancer Survivors. He loved hunting, matchbox cars and camping. Debbie (Goodell) Askins, Caro, Passed away on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at Caro Community Hosptial, at the age of 50. She was born on June 16, 1954, in Marlette and was a Mayville High School graduate. Debbie was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. In her early years she helped care for the Rich Township Cemetery. Throughout the remainder of her life she was a homemaker. Debbie also was an assistant to Rev. Beverly LaJoie and attended the Mills Memorail Baptist Church. She is survived by four sisters and spouses, Marilyn and Max Hollenbeck of Mayville, Diann and David Orban of Mayville, Suzanne and Eugene Davison of Caro, Lenora Wright and husband Scott Mulder of Caro; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Ruth (Betty) Goodell. Funeral service was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro Sunday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. with Rev. Beverly LajOie officiating. Hunter Lee Atwell, Saline, Hunter passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005. He was 18 months old. Hunter was born April 20, 2004 in Ypsilanti to W. Christopher Atwell and Tina Marie Enos. Hunter’s personality was contagious and his laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him. Hunter is survived by his loving parents, Christopher and Tina; paternal grandmother, Barbara Lou Atwell of Mayville; maternal grandparents, Larry and Margo Enos of Vassar; great-grandparents, Lester Woern and Rhea Atwell; two uncles, Gerry and Daisy Enos of Ann Arbor and Chad and Madia Atwell of Mayville; many great-aunts and uncles and six cousins, Carlos, Jessica, Daniel, Ian, Kayla and Ashley. Funeral service took place at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 with Rev. Ron Cook of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline officiating. Marilyn M. Avery, Bay City, Beloved wie, mother, grandmother and friend to many, died of cancer on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004 at Brian's House, at the age of 54. She was born Sept. 5, 1949 in Frankenmuth to the late Rudolf and Rita Lauber. She married Pastor Carl G. Avery July 27, 1968. Marilyn taught Sunday scholl for over 35 years and loved all of her students very much. She loved teaching the Bible and was looking forward to going to heaven. Mrs. Avery will be very much missed by many. Surviving besides her husband, Carl, she leaves four sons, Peter (Shannon) Avery of Bay City, Phillip (Melissa) Avery of Canton, Jonathan (Amy) Avery of Bay City, and Michael (LeeAnn) Avery of Huber Heights, Ohio; one grandson, Austin Avery; one brother, Gary (Dawn) Luber; two stepchildren and many stepgrandchildren; also two speical girls, Hannah and Allie. Marilyn was especially grateful for the exceptional care and kindness she recieved from Dr. Bartnik, nurse Ashley, Abby and Leo. Earl L. Bailey Sr. Mayville Earl passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility following a lingering illness. He was 83 years old. Earl was born Dec. 20, 1920, the son of Earl L. and Gertrude (Sheridan) Bailey in Dryden, coming to Mayville in 1952 from Pontiac. Earl served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. He married the former Iris Middleton on Feb. 2, 1940 in Lapeer. Earl was employed at General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the UAW Local 668, a life member of the Mayville American Legion Post 181 and the Vassar-Mayville VFW. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and going on trips with his wife. Surviving besides his wife of over 64 years, are three children and their spouses, Earl L. and Vickie Bailey Jr. of Mayville, Shirley and David Dickie of Mayville, Joyce and James Carter of Caseville; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. John Ball of the Mayville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in the Rich Twp. Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mayville American Legion and VFW. Iris A. Bailey, Mayville, Died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, at the age of 82. Iris was born July 8, 1922, to Nelson and Orie (Almas) Middleton at Mayville, and married Earl Bailey Sr. on Feb. 2, 1940, in Lapeer. Iris was a past member of Mayville/Vassar VFW Auxiliary Post #10884 and also the Morrison-Mead American Legion Auxiliary Post #181. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and loverd her grandchildren. Iris is survived by on son, Earl (Vickie) Barily Jr. of Mayville; two daughters, Shirley (David) Dickie of Mayville, and Joyce (Jim) Carter of Caseville; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Iris was preceded in death this year by her husband, Earl Sr.; four sisters and one brother. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville with Pastor John Ball officiating. Interment will be in the Rich Township Cemetery. Leonard R. Baldwin, Millington, Michigan. Mr. Leonard R. Baldwin lifelong resident of Millington passed away Sunday morning June 20, 2004 at his Millington residence. Leonard was 74 years old. Leonard was born March 30, 1930 in Arbela Twp. and was the son of Raymond and Mae (Beckwith) Baldwin. Leonard married Dorine Neuenfeldt on August 31, 1963. Together Dorine and Leonard have celebrated 40 years of marriage. Leonard worked for 20 years retiring in 1995 from Central Trucking. Leonard leaves to cherish his memories wife, Dorine Baldwin of Millington; children, Beverly Baldwin of Saginaw; Randall and Gisela Baldwin of East Pointe; Eileen and Mike Jackson of East Tawas; Loretta and Kenny Wayne of Lapeer; Brenda Tersigni of Flint; stepchildren, Art and Jeannie Neuenfeldt of GermFask; Joyce and Al Nass of Hemlock; Virginia and Kenneth Reinert of Millington; Marie Keinath of Millington; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew, Linda Stockowitz and Gary Stockowitz, both of Millington. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael and brother, Robert. The Baldwin family will receive friends at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 24, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial services at 1:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Pastor James Bruner. Genevieve Baranic Caro, Passed away on Monday July 26, 2004, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, at the age of 89. She was born on April 22,1915 in Tuscola County. The former Genevieve Baranski married Michael Baranic on April21, 1936, in aro. He prededed her in death on November 5, 1970. Genevieve was a loving wife, other and grandmother for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy McGrath; three grandchildren, Trisha Wilson, Michael McGrath adn Jennifer (Michael) Samuelson, all of Caro; one sister, Dorothy Kovas; three brothers, Frank (Joanne) Baranski, William (Alaine) Baranski of Vassar and John Baranski of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Anne Baranski of Vassar; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Michael Baranski, she was prededed in death by her parents, William and Nettie (Pozwaski) Baranski; two sisters, Cecila Davis and Marion Martinks; two brothres, Raymond and Edward (Francis) Baranski; one sister-in-law Edith Baranski; and one brother-in-law Steve Kovacs. Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro on Wednesday, July 28 at 11 a.m. with Father Gill Gruden of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Reese officiating. Vern M. Barnes, St. Helen, formerly of Vassar, Died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004. He was born Nov. 30, 1934 and was married May 29, 1954. He enjoyed working in the outdoors and working on his yard. He worked for General Motors and retired after 28 years of services. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve of St. Helen; two sons, Tracy (Jody) Barnes of Vassar and Barry (Sue) Barnes of Grawn; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Charlie) Dymond, Christine Brown, Brandon Dymond; two brothers, Neil Barnes of Vassar and Clare (Pat) Barnes of Bath, Penn. He was preceded by his parents, Arthur and Kate Miller. Memorial service was Tuesday, Sept. 14 at St. Helen Community Baptist Church with Ken Peterson officiating. Erhardt Bauer, 89, of Ubly and Zephyrhills, Fla., beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 19, 2004, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born May 14, 1915, in Reese, son of the late Ernest and Mary (Breiter) Bauer and attended Michigan State University and GMI. He married his wife of 40 years, the former Ruth Englehardt of Reese, on Oct. 24, 1938. After his marriage to Ruth, they moved to their farm in Vassar in 1939. She predeceased him Feb. 12, 1978. Erhardt was empllyed by Saginaw Steering Gear (now Delphi) as an overhead crane operator, retiring in 1979 after 30 years of service. He was fortunate to find love for a second time an on Nov. 22, 1980, he married his devoted wife Madeline Zulauf. She survives him. During the winter months, he and Madeline resided in their winter home in Zephrhills, Fla. and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Bauer was a member of the St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville, attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe, and was a member of the Local No. 699 for more than 30 years. He was a dedicated Tiger baseball fan and enjoyed attending baseball games during spring training in Lakeland, Fla. In addition to his wife Madeline, surviving are his children and their spouses, John Bauer and his wife, Zhi Hu, of West Bloomfield, Mary Ann Bauer of Farmington Hills, and Beverly Cottrell and her husband, Robert, of Merrill; six grandchildren and their spouses, Ruth Garcia Bauer and her husband, Fernando, Mary Jean Bauer-Belcher and her husband, William, Joseph Simon and his wife, Michelle, Martin Simon, Robert J. Cottrell, and Aaron Metiva and his wife, Gwen; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Simon and Emilee Metiva; his brother, William Bauer; and his sister, Martha Daenzer. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Ruth, Erhardt was predeceased by two daughters, Barbara Metiva and Joan Bauer; six brothers and sisters, Albert, Oscar, Elmer, and Richard Bauer, Alma Petzold and Helen Haubenstricker; and his half brother, Norman Bauer. Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, from the St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. The Rev. Robert Gadeken will officiate will burial to follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery. Martha A. Bauer, Richville, Michigan Died Wednesday afternoon, December 29, 2004 at The Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. Age 98 years. She was born on August 15, 1906 in Richville, daughter of the late Johann George and Ernestine (Meyer) Heinlein. She was united in marriage to Edward John Bauer on December 19, 1927 in Kentucky; he predeceased her on December 14, 1950. Martha had been employed with Transit Inn Restaurant and Diedrich Catering and was a life long member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. She enjoyed gardening, baking, tatting and truly loved spending time with her family. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Frederick and Barbara Bauer of Saginaw, Elaine and Stanley Stoick of Vassar, John and Sue Bauer of Twining, Judy and Fred Kern of Frankenmuth; daughter-in-law, Delores Bauer of Vassar; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Leslie Charles Beach, Gagetown Died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, at the age of 95. He was born April 9, 1909 in Tuscola County to Alvin and Hattie (Wheeler) Beach. He married Inez Crawford June 23, 1934 in Elmwood Township. She died Aug. 1, 1987. Leslie farmed his whole life on his grandfather's centennial farm. He also worked at General Cable eight years. He was a life member of Tyler Lodge #317, Cass City and held many offices. Leslie was a member of Gagetown United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Leslie is survived by his sons, Reverend Dr. Stanley (Ellen) Beach of Leesburg, Fla., Ross (Inky) Beach of Mason; grandchildren, Beth Ann (Steve) Jennette, Randy (Sheryl) Beach, Laurie (Charles) Dewey; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Adam, Moriah and Andre Ross; sister-in-law, Eunice Gottleber; brother-in-law, George Laur; several nieces and nephews. Beatrice (Bea) Bell, Caro A beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at Covenant-Cooper in Saginaw. Bea was 85 years old. She was born Dec. 19, 1918, the daughter of the late Frank J.P. and Agnes M. (Habian) Frye, in Rentchler, Ill., spending her early years in Belleville, Ill. Bea was united in marriage to Howard O. Bell in March of 1947 in Bowling Green, Ohio, and then moved to Detroit. She and her husband moved to Caro with their family from Farmington in 1965 when they opened the Howard Bell auto dealership. Howard preceded her in death in 1981. Bea was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. She was a co-owner of Howard Bell Inc., was an active volunteer for the United Way, a founding member of the Tuscola County Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC), and was an avid community volunteer. Bea enjoyed reading, golfing, gardening, traveling and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Bea is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Alan Wasik of Caro; four grandsons, Justin and Nichoel Wasik of Clarkston, Nathan Wasik (Michele Hasle) of Santa Monica, Calif., Damian Wasik (Robbin Becker) of Caro, Ryan Wasik and his fiance Olivia Orban of Ann Arbor; one granddaughter, Alexis Wasik of Ann Arbor; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Katherine Wasik of Clarkston; two sisters, Alyce G.P. Hagemeier of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Eleanore F. Bradshaw of Eastpointe; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Bea was preceded in death by her son, Michael K. Bell in 1991. Phyllis A. Bellamy, Fostoria Died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at Lapeer Regional Hospital, at the age of 65. Phyllis was born July 11, 1939 to Francis and Grace (Lamiman) Friday at North Branch. She loved gardening, garage sales and her grandchildren. Phyllis attended Fostoria United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Mayville Eagles Aerie #4099. She worked at Voplex of Vassar for 23 years. Phyllis is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Nanette) of Fostoria; one sister, Barbara Fox of Fostoria; one brother, Floyd (Ann) Friday of Huachuca, AZ; two granddaughters, Erica and Magen Bellamy; many nieces and nephews; one uncle and three aunts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas in 1998. A service of remembrance will be Saturday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Fostoria United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Schmidt officiating. Robert R. Bender died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Covenant Cooper Medical Center. He was 79 years of age. Born on November 17, 1924 in Vassar he was the son of Ernest and Adelia (Engelhart) Bender. He married Coral Jane Viele on September 15, 1951 in Vassar. She survives him. He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Vassar. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bender was employed by Buick Motor Company for 38 years. Surviving besides his wife is one son, Don and wife Julie Bender of Vassar; three grandchildren, Allison, Molly and Max Bender, all of Vassar; three brothers and four sisters, Celia and husband Chuck Olmsted of Florida, Ernest and wife Katie Bender, Ken and wife Becky Bender, Wendy and husband Ron Graubner, all of Vassar, Lois and husband Ken Wedge of Florida, Bud and wife Sherri Bender of Vassar and Carol Kralik of Saginaw. Guy N. Benn, Caro Passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at his residence with his family at his side, at the age of 79. He was born on Feb. 10, 1925 in Vassar, and spent most of his life in Tuscola County. Guy served in the United States Navy during WW II. On April 24, 1949 he married the former Ilene Webb in Vassar and they have enjoyed 55 years together. Guy worked as a foreman at United Plastics for 31 years. He was a life member of Theron W. Atwood American Legion Post #7 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Caro Post #4164. He is survived by his wife, Ilene Benn; three sons, one daughter and spouses, Guy and Chris Benn of Eagle, Gary and Nancy Benn of Caro, Gayl and Robert Bean of Sebewaing, Greg and Renae Benn of Caro; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Milewski of Frankenmuth and Ethel Gault of Montrose; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Summerfield; two brothers, Robert Benn and Leon Chardon; and a grandson, Robert Bean. Funeral was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. with Wes Raven, Chaplain, Theron W. Atwood American Legion Post #7 officiating. Helen O. Bierlein, Mrs. Helen O. Bierlein died Wednesday morning, November 17, 2004. Born January 18, 1917 in Richville she was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Rotter) Zehnder. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1998, coming from Flint. Mrs. Bierlein was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Flint. She was a lifelong member of the church altar guild and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She is survived by three children, Mary E. (Joel) Schmidt of Lake Zurich, IL, Nancy J. (Dennis) Dressler of Portage, and Rev. Albert R. (Karen) Bierlein of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Corrine) Zehnder of Williamston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Justin K. Bierlein, 15 of Saginaw, died early Wednesday morning, April 7, 2004, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born May 26, 1989 in Saginaw, son of Randy and Debbie (Shinaver) Bierlein. Justin attended List Elementary School and Rittmueller Middle School both in Frankenmuth and was currently in the 9th grade at Frankenmuth High School. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese being confirmed in 2003, and was an avid soccer player, playing J.V. soccer at Frankenmuth High and with AYSO traveling soccer team. Justin also enjoyed playing golf and playing euchre. Surviving in addition to his parents, is his brother Brandon, his grandmother Marjorie (Massoll) Bierlein of Reese, his grandfather William Shinaver of Kalkaska, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends including his two special friends, Stevie and Nealy Squeally. Justin was predeceased by his grandfather, Wallace E. Alvina Bierlein, Frankenmuth and formerly of Vassar, went home to be with her Lord, Monday afternoon, October 4, 2004 at The Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. Age 82 years. She was born on October 9, 1921 in LaCross, Washington, daughter of the late John and Christina (Pauli) Mohr. She married Ruben Bierlein on October 9, 1943 in Saginaw. She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville and longtime member of its Ladies Aid. Alvina loved playing cards and traveling with her husband. She had been head cook for St. Michael's Lutheran School for 25 years until her retirement in 1986. Nita L. Bierlein, of New Port Richey, Florida, and formerly of Saginaw, died unexpectedly, Monday evening, January 12, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center in Bayonet Pointe, Florida. Age 78 years. She was born September 27, 1925 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Hugh and Mattie (VanSickle) Stone. Nita was a graduate of Berkley High School in Berkley Michigan and later graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw. On August 9, 1947 she was married to Peter Bierlein at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. He predeceased her December 1, 1992. Mrs. Bierlein was employed for over 25 years at St. Lukes Hospital in Saginaw where she headed the Pediatrics Department. Before making her home in Florida, Nita was a former member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Saginaw and was a current member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Hudson, Florida. While living in Florida, she worked as a teachers aid at the Moon Lake Elementary School in New Port Richey and also volunteered her time at the Regional Medical Center in Bayonet Point. Surviving are her two daughters, Christine Sink and her husband Bill of Reese and Doreen Bierlein of Traverse City. Four grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Tom Ihrig of Frankenmuth, Becky and Daren Daenzer of Reese, Jamie and Dave McFarland of Saginaw and Charlie Baase of Chicago, and her five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Megan, Maddie, Dylan and Isabella. Sharon Bierlein, Vassar, Michigan. Sharon (Burleigh) Bierlein, Went to be with her Lord, Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2004 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Age 54 years. She was born September 16, 1949 in Duluth, MN, daughter of the late Marvin and Violet (Messerschmidt) Burleigh and graduated from Denfeld High School. Later she graduated from the University of Minnesota - Duluth, as a Licensed Practical Nurse moving to Michigan in the early 1970's. On August 12, 1995, Sharon was married to Donald W. Bierlein in Richville. Sharon was employed in the medical field at various hospitals and physician's offices having last worked with Dr. H. Pietros in Bridgeport. She was a member of the St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville, its Ladies Aid, and the church choir, served as a councilperson on the Vassar City Council, was a former volunteer of the Duluth Salvation Army, and also volunteered as an EMT with the Vassar Area Ambulance Service. Surviving besides her husband Don, are her children and their spouses; Mike and Marge Matthews of Petoskey, Jeffery Matthews and Stephanie of Valdosta, GA., and Heidi and Pat Searles of Vassar, and seven grandchildren; Jimmie, Haley, Brittany, Brandy, Justin, Meghan, and Cayden. Also surviving is her step-mother Alice Burleigh of Duluth, MN. and two step-sons and their spouses; Jason and Heather Bierlein of Lyon Township, and Mike and Danielle Bierlein of Swartz Creek, one brother, Gordie Burleigh and his wife Meralee of Duluth, MN and several nieces and nephews. David Lee Bills, Cass City Died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City, at the age of 28. He was born Nov. 25, 1975 in Cass City to Thomas and Janene (Bohnsack) Bills. David graduated from Cass City in 1994 as class valedictorian. He graduated in 1998 cum laude from Michigan Technological University with a degree in civil engineering. David was part owner of Thomas Roofing. He was a member of Monday and Wednesday pool leagues at Cass Tavern in Cass City and Gagetown Inn in Gagetown. David loved hunting and fishing. He was not only Tom and Janene's son, but also their best friend. David loved and cared about people. He was a very wonderful person. Bernadine (Weiler) Blackmer, Mayville Died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at McLaren Hospital in Flint, at the age of 74. Bernadine was born March 2, 1930 to Raymond and Muriel (Kreger) Weiler at Mayville where she had lived for many years. She married Wallace Q. Blackmer on July 17, 1948 at Vassar. Bernadine worked at Mayville Molding for 19 years as a press operator and also was a member of the Mayville Eagles. She is survived by two sons, Wallace Raymond Blackmer and Gary Blackmer, both of Mayville; one daughter, Diana Robinson of Mayville; one brother, Gerald Weiler of Mayville; two sisters, Ella Mae (Leonard) Berlin of Mayville and Rita (Lloyd) Hughes of Millington; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Catherine Marie Blackmer, Fostoria, Died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City, at the age of 89. Catherine was born Jan. 15, 1915 in New York, NY to Nickolas and Anna Harbin and graduated from Otisville High School. She married Clayton Blackmer on Sept. 5, 1935 in Lapeer. She loverd her grandchildren, gardening, planting lfowers, horses, Ilamas and going to the casino. Catherine is survived by six children, two sons, Jim (Dorothy) Blackmer of Coleman and Rick (Diane) Blackmer of Fostoria; four daughters, Judith (Guy) Stoneburgh of Attica, Shirley Dawson of Arlington, TX, Rita Koper of Fostoria, and Marti (Arv) Edgeworth of Mt. Morris; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 1983 and one sister, Molly Fellows. Eathel Blackmore, of Onekama, died on May 21 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Eathel and her husband Robert lived in Vassar where she was a first-grade teacher. She is survived by her children Mary Lee Pattison, Judith Blackmore and Robert C. Blackmore, all of Onekama; her grandchildren Allen (Deanna) Pattison, Joseph (Anne) Pattison, Barbara (Rick) Naffziger, Rob (Renee) Blackmore, and Jennifer (Robb) Gustafson; her great-grandchildren Bethany and Joseph Pattison, Kayla and Ryan Sykora, and Preston Naffziger. Eathel was the oldest of twelve children. She is survived by her sisters Evelyn Perry, Erna Sherman and Maxine (Robert) Cameron, sisters-and brothers-in-law Rowena, M. Louise, and Lucille Oligney, Lee Lentz, Lester and Ruby Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Blackmore; sisters Bertha Lentz, Mildred Hall and Eleanor Dickerson; brothers Emrald, Howard, Donald, Glenn and Robert Oligney; sisters-and brothers-in-law Aleen Oligney, Louise L. Oligney, Angus Dickerson, Harold I. Perry, Charles Sherman; and son-in-law, Joseph W. Pattison. There was no service. Ethel Esther Blackmer of Vassar, formerly of Gaylord, died on Monday, July 19, 2004 in Saginaw. She was 84 years of age. Mrs. Blackmer was born on April 20, 1920 in Detroit. She was a resident of Gaylord for approximately 25 years and then moved to Vassar in 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gaylord, the Altar Guild and the First United Methodist Women Hope Circle. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. Survivors include her children: Keith O. of Gaylord, Kenneth C. (Connie) of Millington, and Krystal Hoy of Saginaw; seven grandchildren: Robert, Terry, Jodie Hascall and Stephen, Sherrill, Scott Blackmer and Michele (Jeff) Szilagyi; eight great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Gerald Hascall of Watrousville. Mrs. Blackmer was preceded in death by her husband Leeman in 1998 and her daughter Marilyn Joy Hascall in 1989. George Blehm Jr., Gould City, Michigan formerly of Unionville George Blehm Jr., age 72 years, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at his residence in Gould City. Louis E. Bohunsky, Florida, Formerly of Vassar. In loving memory of a husband, father and grandfather. At the age of 82, Louis died June 29, 2004, at Hope Hospice Home Care in Cape Coral, Florida after several years of having Alzheimer's Disease. Louis was born March 12, 1922 in Owosso, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Sadie (Bokros) Bohunsky. He and Evelyn Chapson were united in marriage September 4, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio. Louis was a Veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He had served as Commander and Chief of the American Legion of Vassar, on Board of Directors at St. Frances Cabrini Credit Union, and on the Board of Directors of Vassar Golf and Country Club. Louis enjoyed playing poker with his Vassar friends, hunting, fishing, golfing and dancing. Olin F. Bouck, 94, of Cass City died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born April 30, 1910 in Michigan to the late Roy and Anna (Heckroth) Bouck. He married Mae Peterson on Dec. 1, 1934. They lived near Kinde and Cass City and spent many winters in Holiday, Fla. Bouck was a lifelong farmer in Greenleaf Township. He was a member of shuffleboard and men's clubs in Florida. Eva J. Bourdeau, 74, of Roseville, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Cape Fear Medical Center in North Carolina. Eva was born on June 12, 1930 in Tuscola County to the late Warren and Ruth Alvira (Westphall) Rumble. She married Joseph Bourdeau and he preceded her in death in September 2003. Eva was a person who enjoyed life. She was a caring person and friend to many. She would have the biggest smile when she held her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, the outdoors, collecting clowns and angels. She loved wearing jewelry and enjoyed dressing up like a clown to inspire others and have a great time. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Roseville. She will always remain in our hearts and memories. We will miss her dearly. Mary Esther Boyle Mrs. Mary Esther Boyle of Vassar, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth. She was 84 years of age. Mrs. Boyle was born on June 25, 1919 in Vassar to the late E.C. and Mary (Wilson) Brainerd. She graduated from Vassar High School and then attended Michigan State University. She married Wayne E. Boyle on August 16, 1941 in Vassar. She had resided in the Vassar and Bay Park area since 1972. Before returning to Vassar, Mrs. Boyle resided in Detroit with her husband and daughter. She was very active in the Alumni group of Kappa Delta, her college sorority in Detroit and held many high offices within that group. She was also active in the Detroit area Girl Scouts and was a leader for 11 years, in addition to being active in many of her church groups while in Detroit. She was a member of the Red Cross Grey Ladies for 20 years at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit. Most recently she was very involved in the Emens Scholars Program at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, which is named for her late sister Aline and her husband Dr. John R. Emens, president emeritus of Ball State University. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Ronald Roblin of Vassar; many nieces and a nephew; and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne and her three sisters, Dorotha, Aline and Ruth. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Vassar, Pastor John W. Becker will officiate. Immediately following the service a meal will be served in the lower level of the church. In lieu of flowers those who would like to remember Mrs. Boyle with a donation may wish to consider the Emens Scholars Program. Frederick Willian Bragg, Caro, Fred passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Center, following a heroic battle with cancer, at the age of 76. Fred was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Caro, son of the late Harry P. and Zoa E. (Putnam) Bragg. He graduated from Caor High School in the class of 1947 and married the former Ella I. Trisch on March 25, 1949, at the Caro First Baptist Church. He was a farmer and worked in the maintenance and carpenter shops at the Caro Regional Center for 28 years, retiring in June of 1984. He had also benn employed by the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro for over 17 years. He was a n active member of the Caro First Baptist Church, where he served as both a trustee and usher. Fred enjoyed deer hunting, playing softball, managing Little League teams, working in his woodshop and antique furniture restoration; but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Surviving, besides his wife of 55 years, are one daughter, two sons and their spouses, Joan L. and John Drake of Sylvania, Ohio, with whom he lived for the past three years; Lynn F. and Shirley Bragg of Clarkston and Terry A. Brag of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, and James Bragg of Caro; as well as many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice Kay Bragg and by two brothers, Allen and Charles Bragg. Edward C. Bremer, of Reese, died unexpectedly Monday morning, January 19, 2004 at his residence. Age 58 years. He was born February 23, 1945 in Saginaw County, son of the late Carl and Irene (Wilber) Bremer and was a graduate of Bridgeport High School. He married Clara Williams Toth August 27, 1987. She survives him. Mr. Bremer was employed for 30 years at General Motors-Saginaw Division as a quality inspector retiring in 1996. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #699 where he served as a committeeman. Ed was well known as an avid fly fisherman and custom built fishing rods. He was a life member of Trout Unlimited. His many other hobbies included hunting, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes, working on cars, snowmobiling and woodworking. Surviving besides his wife Clara are his sons, Edward J. Bremer of Reese, Matthew Bremer of Florida, Anthony Bremer of Bay City and Clint Bremer of Saginaw. His three step-children and their spouses, Zsuzsanna and Michael Mahon of Haslett, Renee and Jeffrey Wells of Bay City and Andre Z. and Leslie Toth of South Lyon and his four grandchildren, Kate and Tara Mahon and Madelyn and Jacob Toth. Also surviving are his two brothers and four sisters and their spouses, James and Eula Bremer of Saginaw, Art and Sheryl Bremer of Burt, Pat and David LaPan of Bridgeport, Marian Lingle of Bay City, and Cathy and Al Zimmer and Evelyn and Dave Jones all of Defiance, Ohio. Also several aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Janet Bremer and one brother-in-law, Nelson Lash. Emma E. Brown, Mayville, formerly of Cass City, Passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at her Mayville residence with her family at her side, at the age of 84. Emma was born on June 11, 1920 in McGreggor and was the daughter of Adam and Barbara (Frey) Rhein. She was married to Ray B. Brown, who preceded her in death in February of 1978. Emma worked for 15 years in housekeeping and other various duties at the Oakdale Regional Center in Lapeer, retiring in 1979. Emma loved attending the Golden Years Club when she was able to, and loved flowers and flower gardening. Emma leaves to cherish her memory her family, children, Janice White of Mayville, Marilyn and husband, Donald Miller of Ruth, Joann and husband, James Eisinger of Lapeer, Rayola and husband, Bill Barkowska of Mayville, Daryl and wife, Laurence Brown of Prescott; 11 grandchildren; on step grandson; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Rhein of Lapeer; as well as serveral nieces and nephews. Clarence Lee Burgess Jr., Bay City, Michigan Mr. Burgess passed away Saturday evening, November 6, 2004 at his residence, age 77 years. The son of the late Clarence Lee and Cecelia Burgess was born December 30, 1927 in Akron, MI. Glenn R. Burkel, Alger, formerly of Caro Passed away Friday, January 30, 2004, at Saint Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, at the age of 73. He was born September 7, 1930 in Gilford. Glenn married the former Anne Beller in Fairgrove October 15, 1955. Glenn served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and upon returning, he was employed at the Caro Regional Center, and then as route salesman for Dunn's Beverage and Parrott's Ice Cream. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Skidway. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Prescott and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. He loved golf and for many years he enjoyed bowling and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Anne; two sons, Scott Burkel of New York City and Dean and Connie Burkel of Caro; three brothers, William and Carol Burkel of Tucson, Arizona, Burt and Delores Burkel of Caro and Paul Burkel of Caro; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sophie (Bublitz) Burkel; and a sister-in-law, Mary Burkel. Doris H. Burnham, 81, of Caro passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at her daughter's home in Elkton, under the care of her family and Heartland Hospice. She was born on Feb. 24, 1923, in Riverton, Ill., and moved to Farmington as a child. She was a graduate of Farmington High School. The former Doris Dickerson married James Burnham on Jan. 31, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2000. She was a resident of Caro since 1960. In addition to devotion to her family, she enjoyed sewing. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caro. She is survived by two sons, Robert Burnham and his wife, Hattie, of Detroit, James Burnham of Othello, Wash.; two daughters, Susan Courliss and her husband, Reggie, of Elkton, Helen Corradi and her husband, Daniel, of Caro; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, her identical twin, Dora Ellen Palosaari of Tuscon, Ariz., Jean Owens of Tuscon, Ariz.; one brother, William Dickerson of Spain; and several nieces and nephews. Katherine A. Burnham, Caro, Passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Caro Community Hospital, at the age of 38. She was born on November 17, 1965 in Caro and was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. She attended Caro schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Creation Church. She is survived by four daughters and one spouse, Angellee and Dale Wilson of Mayville, Christine Powell of Mayville, Tina Marjorie Howard of Deckerville; special friend, Larry Burnham, four sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Burton Howard. John H. Burton Jr.Swartz Creek, formerly of East Lansing Passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the age of 48. John was born on Jan. 11, 1956 in Lansing. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1974 and attended Lansing Community College. He was associated with Michael B. Serling, P.C. as a legal investigator for 18 years. He is survived by his father, John H. Burton Sr. of East Lansing; daughters, Melissa (Tim) Berlin, Megan and Mallory; sister, Gale L. Musolf; brother, Joe Burton; three grandchildren, Brandon Sanders, Camryn and Austin Berlin; nieces, Kimberly (Bill) Altman and Laura Musolf; and the love of his life, his fiancee Michelle DeWilde and her children, Aaron, Blake and Emily. Marion R. Busch (Densmore) Bay City, Michigan Mrs. Busch passed away Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Huron Woods Nursing Home her family at her side, age 90 years. She was born July 24, 1914 in Reese, Michigan. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and retired from Prestolite Co. She is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Sharon 'Sherry' and Ronald Craig of Kawkawlin; eight brothers and sisters: Harry Densmore, Ruth and Elmer Gerish, Paul and Betty Densmore, Jim and Verena Densmore, Jack and Jean Densmore, Belle and Milton Felske, Faith and Jack Austin and Lois and Robert Beach and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas O. Busch on May 3, 2004; one brother, Fred Densmore; one sister, Erma Neal and two sisters-in-law, Lydia Densmore and Helen Densmore. Linda K Campbell, Lake City, died unexpectedly, Wednesday evening, September 15, 2004, at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. Age 46 years. She was born November 13, 1957 in Saginaw, daughter of Kenneth and Gertrude (Schoenow) Hess of Vassar. Linda was a graduate of Vassar High School and attended Michigan State University. She was married to Robert Campbell April 29, 1994 in Traverse City. He survives her. She was employed as a pharmacist assistant at Meijer in Cadillac. Her enjoyments included her cat Izzy, her dog Lucy, her rose garden, and being a member of the Northern Cruiser Car Club of Lake City where she served as its treasurer. She also enjoyed designing and making her own greeting cards with her unique sense of humor. Surviving in addition to her loving husband Bob and her parents Ken and Trudy, are her seven brothers and sisters and their spouses; Paul and Jean Hess of Vassar, Rev. Steve and Deb Hess of Ft. Rex L. Campbell, Caro, Passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 26, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness, at the age of 65. Rex, as he was affectionately known, was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Caro, and had attended the Caro public schools. Rex was employed at Pontiac Automotvie Plant in Pontiac, until his retirement. Rex was united in marriage in Caro, to Linda (Miller). Rex enjoyed fishing, hunting and snowmobile racing. In addition, Rex was a home buildre and home interior constructor. Rex had attended the Colwood United Brethren Church in Caro. Surviving are his wife, Linda; four daughters, Pamela (Clark) Ewald of Caro, Jody (Dave) Hauxwell of Caro, Marcy (Fred) Barber of Cass City and Kristin (Stephen) of Unionville; two brothers, William (Anne) Campbell of Caro and Richard (Kay) Campbell of Lake Orion; and eight grandchildren. Thane Keith Campbell, Fairgrove, Michigan Age 72 years, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Bay Medical Center. Thane was born May 6, 1931 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. and Malinda (Greania) Campbell. He married Roma Lee Humm February 27, 1954 in Caro. Thane was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and was currently a trustee. He was also a member and current president of the Fairgrove Lions Club. Mary M. Carter, Vassar, Passed away on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, at the age of 93. She was born in Vassar on May 25, 1911, to the late William J. and Minnie Mae (Webb) Force. Mary was a member of the Vassar Church of the Nazarene. Cathy Caruthers, Caro Passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at her home with her family and friends by her side, at the age of 55. She was born on Feb. 20, 1949 to the late John and Eldora Shunk. Cathy married Terry Caruthers on July 3, 1986. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a special place in her heart for her dogs, Chief and Precious, and cat, Cutie Pie. Cathy enjoyed crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. Leon E. Chardon, Vassar, Michigan. Mr. Chardon, age 90, passed away Wednesday morning at Tendercare Health Center of Frankenmuth. Leon was born on December 17, 1913 in Vassar to the late Hazel and Leon Benn. He married Phyllis McLane and she preceded him in death in 1943. Leon then married Angeline Miller in July of 1980 and she preceded him in death November of 1988. He was employed at Eaton Foundry as a quality inspector for 42 years, retiring in 1976. Surviving family includes daughters, Beverly (Joseph) Lasky of Bad Axe and Patricia Phillips of Tucson, Arizona; a son-in-law, Edward Lesko of Vassar; a stepson, Ernie (Cheryl) Highlen of Bay City; half-sisters, Ethel Gault of Chesaning and Mary Milewski of Vassar; a half- brother, Guy (Ilene) Benn of Caro and half-sister-in-law, Judy Benn of Caro; also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. George J. Clara Cass City Passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at his residence, at the age of 87. He was born in Gagetown on Oct. 8, 1916, the son of Bert and Grace (Krug) Clara. On June 22, 1942, he married the former Maxine Ricker in Owendale. George was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church. He had owned and operated the Cass City Floral for many years. Moving to Caro, he was a distributor for Texaco Oil, and returned to Cass City to become partner in Croft-Clara Lumber Company. He later worked at Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors in Clarkston, from which he retired. He was also a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Tyler Lodge 317. Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Caren Clara of Cass City; grandchildren, Kristin (Thomas, MD) Doerr of Traverse City and Matthew (Cathleen) Clara of Grand Ledge; four grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Clara of Caro; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Horowitz of Cass City and Lorraine Huff of Jackson, Miss. Preceding George in death were his wife, Maxine in 2000, his son, John, MD in 2001, a daughter in infancy and his sisters, Lorraine Austin, Marian Woidan and Mildred Downing. Scott L. "Smiley" Claerhout,Scott L. "Smiley" Claerhout, 39, of Carrollton, Mo. and formerly of Reese and Unionville died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in Carrollton, Mo. He was born Sept. 23, 1965, in Bay City, son of Marilyn (Lehner) Claerhout and the late Larry J. Claerhout. He was a 1984 graduate of Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School and later graduated from Kirkland Community College. Scott served in the U.S. Army and then served in various communities as a police officer in Michigan and Missouri. He was united in marriage to Tammy Newton on Nov. 14, 2003, in Carrollton, Mo.He was a member of the Catholic faith. Marie G. Cole, died on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at her home surrounded by family. She was 80 years of age.Mrs. Cole was born on September 25, 1923 in Reese, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Elsie (Gillis) Hogan. she graduated from Reese High School in 1941 and was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. She was married to John C. Cole on March 2, 1946 in Reese. Mrs. Cole was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro and was an active member of the Watrousville/Caro Historical Society. She had been employed for over 20 years at the Caro office of the Michigan Employment Security Commission. She was a great cook and enjoyed collecting and recalling local history, as well as working in the Watrousville/Caro Museum. Robert J. Colling, Fostoria, Died Monday July 26, 2004 at home with his family , at the age of 74. Robert was born October 10, 1929 at Fostoria to Charles and Beluah (McNinch) Colling. He married Shirley Francisco August 26, 1950 at Murphy Lake Rd. Fostoria. He resided at Fostoria his entire life and retired from GM Truck and Coach of Pontiac in 1981. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends camping, hunting and going to the casino. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Fostoria, five children, Robert Wayne of Marlette, Charlotte Gonzales of Capac, Stella May (Gary) Jones of Otter Lake, Pam (Terry) Chase of Cass city, Sharon Marie Colling and friend John Ludington of Hadley; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois (Richard) Ladd of Mayville. Anna E. Colosky, Vassar, Michigan. Mrs. Colosky, age 82 years, passed away Friday, April 30, 2004 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She was born in Millington Township on Sept. 12, 1921 to the late Roy and Maude (Ellithorpe) German. On November 2, 1940, she married Loyal Colosky and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1991. She was a member of the Red Hats Society, Red Hens Chapter of Millington. Survivors include five sons, Loyal (Arlene) Colosky Jr., Fred (Linda) Colosky, William (Treesa) Colosky, Matt (Linda) Colosky and Richard (Jackie) Colosky, all of Vassar; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don German and Carl German; three sisters, Dorothy Hemingway, Gertrude Tkatch and Mildred Maxwell; several nieces and nephews and several step-grandchildren. Clarence Henry Cox, Deford, Died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Tendercare Nursting Facility, at the age of 95. He was born June 25, 1909, in Ubana, Ill., to Elwin and Lessie E. (Dunn) Cox. He married Beulah McRobbie Nov. 15, 1935, at home in Marlette. She died Dec. 17, 1977. He then married Phyllis M. Boag May 29, 1979, in Deford United Methodist Church. Phyllis died Aug. 1, 2004. Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S> DeGrasse. He was based in Pearl Harbor for two years. Clarence was a farner. He enjoyed harness racing, flower gardening and oil painting. He was a member of Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644 and a former member of the Kingston VFW Post #5317. Clarence raised Ann and Carol. At one time Clarence attnded Pilgrim Holiness Church in Kingston. He later attended Deford United Methodist Church with Phyllis. Phyllis Margaret Cox Deford Died Sunday, August 1, 2004, in Marlette Community Hospital, at the age of 84. She was born March 12, 1920 in Shabbona to Avon and Margaret (Phillips) Boag. She married Elmore Caister October 25, 1939. After his death, she married Kenneth Churchill December 16, 1946. He died December 20, 1975. She later married Clarence Cox on May 29, 1979 in Deford United Methodist Church. Phyllis worked in the Cass City public school system as a cook and bus driver, retiring after 22 years. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church, Deford Good Neighbors Club, United Methodist Women, and Michigan Education Employee Retirement. Phyllis was one of the first women involved in the plumbing and heating business in Cass City; first with Boag and Caister, then with Boag and Churchill. She was one of the first to start the senior mealsite in Cass City. Phyllis enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. Robert J. Cragg, Fairgrove, Died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at his home; at the age of 61. Robert was born September 17, 1942 in Fairgrove, the son of Orville and Margaret (Molnar) Cragg. He was married to Iola Beecher on September 25, 1985. Robert owned and operated Robert Cragg Well Drilling. He was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and was a trustee for about 17 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farm animals and all sports. Nettie L. (Smith) Curvin, Vassar, Michigan. Age 86, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw. Nettie was born January 18, 1918 in East Dayton Twp., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. and Cora (Hodges) Smith. She and Ronald L. Curvin were united in marriage May 4, 1942. He preceded her in death August 16, 1990. Nettie worked for Atkins Clothing Store, which later became Dancers, for 161/2 years until her retirement, November 4, 1989. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking cookies and bread, and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Cora A. Davis, Essexville, Michigan Passed away August 22, 2004 at her home following a lingering illness, age 77 years. Cora was born on February 1, 1927 in Gilford, MI, the daughter of the late Fred and Lina (Krause) Ahrens. Cora had worked for the Presto-Lite Corporation for many years. In 1948 Cora Ahrens was united in marriage to the late Harry Elmer Davis in Caro, MI. He predeceased her on May 16, 1975. Cora was a loving wife and homemaker who enjoyed her children and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To this marriage, eight children were born. Sons: Richard Davis of Freeland, Michael Davis and friend, Lisa of Bay City, James Davis and wife, Bonny of Pinconning, MI; daughters: Karen Kazmarek of Bay City, Carol (Gene) Zube of Bay City, Kathy (Ron) Garbulinski, Pinconning, Sandy McNew of Houghton Lake, MI; a daughter, Darlene died in infancy. Also surviving are three sisters: Helen Doud, Marion Spychalski, Loretta Engle and a very special friend, Clara Heinburg all of Bay City. Justin Leon Richard Decker Caro, Justin passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, as a result of injuries received in an earlier automobile accident, at the age of 16. Justin was born March 19, 1988, the son of Marty and Tina (Guinther) Decker, and was a lifelong area resident. Justin was a member of the Caro High School junior class where he was on the football and wrestling teams. Justin enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing on the church softball league with his father. Surviving, besides his parents, are two brothers, Jordan and Jeremy Decker at home; his paternal grandparents, Leon Decker of Holly and Marlene Biebel of Caro; maternal grandparents, John and Penny Guinther of Cass City; his paternal great-grandfather, Leon Decker Sr. of Davisburg; his godparents, Edward and Marsha Winczer of Almont; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. John Bedford de Doelder, Virginia Formerly of Caro, Michigan Mr. de Doelder passed away Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Elks National Home in Bedford, Virginia. Age 95 years. He was born May 9, 1909 in The Netherlands, a son of the late Jacob Lambert de Doelder and Helen Huberts de Doelder. John retired from Shurfine Corp. as Director of Purchasing. Prior to that he was President of the W.N. Clark Canning Co. in Caro. With over 65 years in the BPO Elks, John was Exalted Ruler three times, once in Newark, New York #1249 and then twice Exalted Ruler at the Elks National Home. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club in Newark, NY. John enjoyed golf, playing bridge and dancing. In addition to his parents; a sister, Bertha Newton and his former wife and dear friend, Dorothy C. de Doelder, preceded him in death. Mrs. Marcella Marie Deeg, 70, of Unionville, passed away June 15, 2004. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa on Dec. 21, 1933, the daughter of Lester and Carrie (Hines) Coonfare. She married Gerald Meyer, who preceded her in death July 8, 1988. Marcella married Harold Deeg in Iowa on Nov. 2, 1996.She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Guttenberg, Iowa and its St. Anne's Society. She was also a member of the American Legion, Amvets, and enjoyed doing volunteer work, mostly with community affairs. During her younger years, she assisted on the family farm. Otto F. Dembowski, Unionville, Michigan Mr. Dembowski, age 89 years, passed away April 22, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Pigeon, Michigan on October 24, 1914. The son of Gustav and Emelia (Kendzora) Dembowski. Otto married the former Donna Guenther on March 7, 1937. She preceded him in death August 12, 2003. During his working life, he had assisted in farming, worked with Defoe Ship Builders in Bay City, and he had been retired from resistant welders corporation. He was also a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Unionville and an honorary member of United Steel Workers of America. Surviving are his son, Thomas (Carolyn) Dembowski of Chesnee, South Carolina and daughter, Susan (Steven) Georgi of Irvine, California. Also surviving are grandchildren: Julie Epperson, Terri Trickel, Bobbi Nelson, Susan Betancourt, Heidi Pletsch, Jody Ferguson, Jamie Lewis and Tony Wilson; nineteen great- grandchildren and his brothers, Carl (Clarys) and Ernest. Lena A. DeVore, formerly of Mayville, Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 in Haines City, Fla,; having reached the age of 92. Lena A. Butler was born on Dec. 20, 1911, in Lacona, Iowa, to John W. and Lydia M. Butler. She was the seventh child in a family of 12. She married Clifford M. DeVore on May 30, 1930 and this union produced six children. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Clifford's death in 1986. Following her husband's death Lena made her home with her daughter, Donna and family in Millington, and in later years she divided time with daughter, Judy and family in Nebraska, and Donna in Florida. Clifford was a Methodist pastor for serveral years, serving chuches in Prescott; Gladstone, Owendale, and Sandusky before his retirement. Lena, or Lee, as she prefered to be called, served beside her husband taking as active part in the activities of the church. She was a talented seamstress and gifted in all types of crafts. Her specialty was Crismons, the gold and peral bead Christian-themed Chritmas ornaments and for many years, each child and grandchild received a new Crismon for a gift. Her health had deteriorated greatly in the past few years, but she still loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by five of her six children, Sonna (Vern) Weber of Haines City, Fla., Judith (Glenn)Loy of Lincoln, Neb., Roger D. (Vernonica) of Truckee, Calif., Rodney G. of Lexington, Ky., and Gary L. Frederick J. DePrekel Jr. Fairgrove, Michigan Passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 11, 2004 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 46 years. Fred was born October 30, 1957 in Bay City. He was married to Sheri R. Faustin on May 23, 1987 at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Munger and she survives him. Fred had been employed by Delphi in Saginaw. He was a member of St. Norbert Catholic Church and Pheasants Forever. Fred enjoyed working in his yard, hunting and fishing with his son, Jared, watching sports with his daughters, Bobbi Jo and Genna, NASCAR racing especially #8 Dale Earnhardt Jr., BINGO (Roxanne), travelling and socializing, and spending time at Drummond Island and his dog, Jilly. Surviving besides his wife, Sheri, of seventeen years are his children: Bobbi Jo of Saginaw, Genna and Jared both at home; his mother, Shirley and Bob Hill of Akron, his mother and father-in-law, Rose Lee and Don Faustin of Fairgrove; three sisters: Susan and Steven Westerby of White Lake, Kelly and Ralph Bills of Akron, Nicole and Greg Gainforth of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Randy and Mary DePrekel of Essexville and Scott DePrekel of Freeland; three sisters-in-law: Laurie and Jerry Johnson of Fairgrove, AnnMarie and Thomas Eisengruber of Sebewaing, and Donna and Frank Willett of Fairgrove; eighteen nieces and nephews and one great nephew and an honorary pallbearer unable to attend, Mike Engisch. Joyce Dietzel, 74, of Owendale, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Joyce was born on July 25, 1929, at Hubbard Hospital in Bad Axe to the late Wesley A. and Pearl (Geiger) Kretzschmer of Pigeon. Joyce attended Hayes School and Pigeon Rural Agricultural School, graduating from Pigeon High School in 1947. She worked as a secretary at Dow Chemical Company in Midland until her marriage in 1949. On May 14, 1949, Joyce was married to Eldon C. Dietzel at Salem E.U.B. Church in Pigeon, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2004. Joyce was involved for many years in the Owendale Study Club, the Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary and the Salem United Methodist Women. She enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, quilting, sewing, and knitting. Joyce and Eldon enjoyed taking cruises and made many new friends when they took up dancing. She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. Mr. Richard M. "Dick" Dilleree Sr., 74, of Pigeon and formerly of Millington, passed away early Monday, Aug. 16, 2004. Richard M.
