Harold G. Abke, 85, of Unionville died on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on Jan. 1, 1917, in Unionville. On March 29, 1941, he married Madeline Ziegler at the Methodist Parsonage outside Unionville. She preceded him in death on May 19, 1997. Harold was a farmer throughout his life, starting at a young age after the death of his father. He was a life member and past master of the Hubbard-Winsor Lodge No. 420 F&AM, Kedron Chapter No. 33 O.E.S. and the Bay City Elks Club. Harold served on the Unionville Village Council and was chairman of the Tuscola County ASCS board. Harold loved his winters in Lakeland, Fla. He is survived by one son, Lynn Abke and his wife, Kathie, of Bad Axe; two grandchildren, Andrea Abke of Mount Pleasant and Lance Abke of Hazel Park; one brother, Dale Abke of Lapeer; one sister-in-law, Maxine Profit of Cass City; three nephews; one niece; several cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille La Fave. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The Rev. William R. Wright of First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe will officiate with burial in Indianfields Township Cemetery. There will be a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday under the auspices of the Hubbard-Winsor Lodge No. 420 F&AM. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe or the American Cancer Society.


Betty J. Avery, 74, of Applegate, formerly of Cass City passed away Friday, June 21, 2002 in Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Dr. Philip Rice of Cass City United Methodist Church, officiating. Internment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church.

Edwin J. Barnes, age 70, died Thursday, January 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. Mr. Barnes was a life long area resident of Decker, Michigan. He was born February 24, 1931 in Port Huron, Michigan son to the late James and Laura (Hill) Barnes. He married Joyce Kritzman July 9, 1955 in Cass City, Michigan. Edwin served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Buick Motors in Flint for thirty years until his retirement in 1984. He is survived by his wife Joyce, sons: Harold (Linda) Barnes, Douglas (Patty) Barnes of Snover, MI, daughters: Jacquelyn (Randy) Smith, Edwina (Edward) Phetteplace of Decker, MI, seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Verna Miller. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ceneith M. Barrons, 93, of Kingston passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City, after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Kingston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Butters officiating. Interment is in Kingston Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today at Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston and noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.


William Donald Benkelman, 73, of Cass City died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at his home in Cass City. He was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Royal Oak to Harold and Isabel (Fletcher) Benkelman. He married Barbara Ell of New York on May 2, 1952, in East Lansing. She preceded him in death Feb. 1, 1995. Bill attended Michigan State College of Agriculture and Applied Science, now Michigan State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. He was a captain in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War, where as a lieutenant he earned a bronze star of meritorious achievement for maintaining his unit in the highest state of readiness. In 1956, Bill joined Cadillac Plastics Co. as an outside salesman. Over the next three decades, he rose through the ranks of the company, becoming its chairman in 1984. When he retired from the company in 1988, Cadillac was the world's largest distributor of semi-finished plastic shapes. Bill also founded, developed, and built the Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge in Breckenridge, Colo. After retirement, he and Barbara moved to Cass City, where he lived on the Benkelman centennial farm on Schwegler Road. Bill is survived by his children, Jefrey Robert David Benkelman and his wife, Marilyn, of North Palm Beach, Fla., James Ell Benkelman and his wife, Susan, of Breckenridge, Colo., Cynthia Benkelman Ryerson and her husband, Anthony, of Vail, Colo.; grandchildren: Bridget, Jefrey, and Cody Benkelman of North Palm Beach, Fla., Josh Constas and his wife, Julie, of Breckenridge, Colo., Anthony Ryerson III and Sally Barbara Ryerson of Vail, Colo.; brother, Robert F. Benkelman and his wife, Lorraine, of Caseville; four nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Cass City First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Morningstar of Sandusky Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post No. 3644. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in church. Merlene May Bentley, 55, died Monday at home of congestive heart failure. Born in Akron, Mich., Mrs. Bentley lived in Fontana 25 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Ward Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church in Fontana. Mrs. Bentley is survived by a son, Richard of Rialto; a stepdaughter, Velvet Angela Wark of Michigan; two grandchildren; her mother, Helen Wark of Michigan; two brothers, Carlton Wark and Larry Wark, both of Michigan; and a sister, Pam Wark of Michigan. Dorothy Ruth Blackmer, of Millington, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at home. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Blackmer was born on March 5, 1919 in Millington where she resided her entire life. She was the daughter of Clare and Reva (Wippert) Bishop. She attended Michigan State University. In October of 1939 she married William Blackmer. He preceded her in death in October of 1979. She was a member of the Millington United Methodist Church. She loved sports, gardening, and harness horse racing. She worked as a secretary for the Millington School system, received her teaching degree and taught school the last 10 years before her retirement. Surviving is her family, three sons and their spouses, Mike and Alice Blackmer of Grand Blanc, Bob and Ethel Blackmer, Dick and Nolavay Blackmer, all of Millington; daughter-in-law and husband, Trina and John Stewart of Gilbert, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Link of Cape Coral, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Eno of Millington, Theo McParland of Grand Rapids; two brothers-in-law, William McGowan of Florida, Bernie Rohrer of Millington; dear friend and colleague, Jewel Lockwood; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joel; a grandson, Frank; sister, Betty; sisters-in-law, Marlea and Carolyn; brothers-in-law, Ralph, Duane, Art and Bill. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Millington United Methodist Church. Pastor Drew Hart officiated. Memorials may be directed to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society. Mary Blondell, 94, of Caro died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Caro Community Hospital. She was born on Dec. 8, 1907, in Crestline, Ohio to the late Karl and Katherine (Schmidt) Kappel. The former Mary Kappel married Steve Grasel in March of 1927. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1938. She then married Martin Blondell in 1947. He preceded her in death in March of 1956. She had been employed at General Cable in Cass City. She liked to play cards, crochet, and liked everything to do with crafts. She also liked to visit, travel, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Mary is survived by three children and their spouses: Edna and Reuben Sjulstad, and Robert and Maryann Grasel, all of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Katherine and Robert Ricker of Owendale; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Ken and Betty Sjulstad, Rob Sjulstad, Steve and Marcia Sjulstad, Katherine and Jeff Blank, Robert Jr. and Deb Grasel, Ann and John Krafft, Tony and Kath Grasel, Steven and Amy Grasel, Lynda and Paul Rocheleau, Jeff and Pam Ricker, and Kim and Randy Ewald; 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Adam and Simon Kappel; and two sisters, Helen Friesorger and Eva Frick. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. Father Dennis Kucharczyk will officiate. Burial will be at St. Agatha's Catholic Cemetery in Gagetown. Visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Rev. Wesley Briggs, 90, lifelong resident of the Vassar and Millington area, went to his heavenly home on Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, with his family at his side while at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. He was born March 17, 1912, in Vassar to Douglas and Mary (Crooks) Briggs. He was one of ten children. Wesley and Eileen Franzel were united in marriage Feb. 25, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio. They shared 71 years of marriage together. Wesley was a farmer until 1965 when he was called into the ministry. He pastored for more than 24 years. He retired in 1989 from the Vassar First Baptist Church. After retirement, he served from church to church as interim pastor. He and Eileen have four children, 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, John "Jack" Briggs and his wife, Janice, of Millington, Mrs. Joan Harrington and her husband, Gerald, of Millington, Mrs. Marlene McMahan and her husband, Harry, of Mt. Morris, and Mrs. Glenda Kirt and her husband, Robert, of Mt. Morris; two brothers and their wives, Carl Briggs and his wife, Jean, of Houghton Lake, and Robert Briggs and his wife, Eleanor, of Flint; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harold, Raymond, Nelson, Clark and Ronald; sisters, Madolin and Ruth. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Vassar First Baptist Church. Pastors Douglas Stockwell and Cyril Haines will officiate. Burial will be at the Tuscola Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. Daniel "Dan" John Brunet, 46, of Vassar, formerly of Brookshire, Texas, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at his parents home in Vassar. Dan was born on Oct. 3, 1956, in Saginaw and was the son of Harry and Donna Brunet. His mother preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2002. For the past twenty years he was a resident of Brookshire, Texas where he operated a fiberglass architectural company. The past five years he has battled multiple myeloma cancer. He was a graduate of Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port (Laker) High School, class of 1976. Dan is survived by his father, Harry; brothers and sisters, Vicki Faber and her husband, Brad, of Corunna, Michael Brunet and his wife, Jean, of Caro, Laurie Slate and her husband, Gary, of Hesperia, Matthew Brunet of Katy, Texas; grandmother, Betty Holeman of Saginaw; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar. Pastor Douglas Stockwell will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at the chapel. Donna (Holeman) Brunet, 69, of Vassar, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at her residence. Donna was born on Oct. 2, 1933 in Saginaw and was the daughter of John and Betty (Stone) Holeman. On Jan. 9, 1951, she and Harry Brunet were married at Keesler A. F. B. in Biloxi, Miss. and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. Following discharge, they moved to Mount Pleasant where Harry finished his teaching degree. In 1956, they moved to the Flint area where Harry began a career in education. They moved to Mancelona in 1969 where her husband was superintendent of schools. Four years later they moved to the Thumb area where her husband was superintendent of the Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Schools, a position he had until his retirement in 1988. They then moved to Las Vegas following retirement, where they lived until her health prompted a move back to Vassar in 1997. She fought off numerous emphysema attacks along with other illnesses until her death. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker her entire married life. She is survived by her husband, Harry; five children, Vicki Faber and her husband, Brad, of Corunna, Michael Brunet and his wife, Jeanie, of Caro, Laurie Slate and her husband, Gary, of Hesperia, Dan Brunet of Brookshire, Texas, Matt Brunet of Katy, Texas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; her mother, Betty Holeman of Saginaw; sister, Sue Piechowiak and her husband, Finis, of Saginaw; brother, Jim Holeman and his wife, Carol, of Weidman; several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals of Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiating. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Maida R. (Hall) Butterfield, Freeland, Michigan (daughter of Edwin & Zella Hall) Loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away Sunday morning, September 28, 2002 at Saginaw Geriatrics, where she had resided the last nine years. Age 95 years. Maida Ruth (Hall) Butterfield was born July 8, 1908 in Dayton Center, Mich. to the late Edwin Orlo Hall and Zella Katherine Willsey. She was a graduate of Baker Business College in Flint, and she worked for a couple of years as a stenographer at A.C. Spark Plug of GM in Flint. There she met and married Edgar G. Butterfield June 1, 1935 at Hall's Haven, the bride's family farm. Edgar predeceased her October 20, 1982. Maida and Ed were core members of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church and later helped engineer and finance a mission church, Hopevale Memorial Baptist Church in Saginaw Township. God, church, and family were central in her life. She held numerous church offices, financial secretary, recording secretary, President of the Women's Missionary Society, as well as teaching Sunday School. Her strong faith was contagious. She also loved to play bridge, golf, bowling, sewing, typing, reading and cooking. Maida is survived by three daughters, Dian (John) Zahner, Spokane, Wash., Patty (Richard) Yates, Freeland, and Bethany Rowell, Grand Rapids, a son-in-law, Dale Harvey of Saginaw, 11 grandchildren, Laura Lee Blair, Kevin (Santa) Harvey, Brian (Anita) Harvey, Marc (Deb) Zahner, Dane Zahner, Kara (Steve) VonWorley, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Yates, Jason (Dannette) Yates, Joel (Heidi) Yates, Joshua (Aimee) Rowell, Heidi Rowell and 16 great-grandchildren. A sister, Virginia Rodgers also survives Maida. A daughter, Anita Harvey, and three sisters, Elizabeth Wilcox, Mary Seward, and Bernice Dickerson have predeceased Maida. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Freeland United Methodist Church. Rev Jaye Reisinger and Rev. Dan Davis will officiate with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Donald (Don) Casteel, of Millington died on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at Lapeer Medical Center at the age of 61. Mr. Casteel was born on January 31, 1941 in Newburg, West Virginia the son of Fred W. and Hester (Haskiell) Casteel. On August 20, 1966 he married Lila Gleason and together they shared 36 years of marriage. Mr. Casteel was employed as a fork truck driver for Steering Gear (Delphi) for 22 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Millington Baptist Church. Mr. Casteel was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. He is survived by his family including his wife, Lila; his children, Donald Casteel, II of Belleville, Michigan, Steven J. Casteel and fiancee, Cristina, of Midland, Robert J. Casteel, Duane Metro and friend Michelle all of Millington; one brother, Fred T. Casteel and wife Sandy of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Don Peaslee of Kingwood, West Virginia; 16 nieces and nephews; 27 great nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews; and extended family. Mr. Casteel was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Peaslee; one brother, Arnold Casteel; and one son, Aaron T. Casteel in 1976. Nancy Cech, 60, of Cass City died Saturday, June 22, 2002 in Bay Medical Center, Bay City. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with the Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. LeeRoy Clark, of Millington, died at his home on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the age of 80. Mr. Clark was born to George and Mary (Jackson) Clark on August 29, 1922 in Flint and was a lifelong resident of Millington. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He attended Michigan State University and graduated from General Motors Institute and the FDR Labor Center. On January 26, 1951 he married Eartha Mae (Billie) Kyles and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. He retired from Chevrolet V-8 Engine in Flint in 1991 after 42 years of service. He was a board member of Chevrolet UAW Local 659 and served as secretary- treasurer of the UAW Greater Flint Community Action Council for several years prior to his retirement. Mr. Clark belonged to the Human Development Commission (HDC) and Community Action movement since 1965 and served as Board Chairman of HDC for 30 years. He served as board member of the Michigan Community Action Agency Association and served more than 42 years as a trustee of Arbela Township. In 1948, Mr. Clark along with his cherished friend, Lois Murray was instrumental in the formation of the Democratic Party in Arbela Township. He remained an active political leader at the local, state, and national level until his life ended. Mr. Clark was active in countless civic, educational, and labor organizations. Some of his past accomplishments included President of the Millington PTA, Chairman of the Red Feather Campaign, board member of Genesee County Medical Health and Genesee County United Way. He served as Chairman of the Service Center for the Visually Impaired, Director of the Genesee County Fair, board member and Executive Vice-President of the NAACP Credit Union, member of Arbela Township Parks and Recreation Committee, the Urban League, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars and former candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives. Mr. Clark was recognized as a civic leader and humanitarian by the Michigan State Legislature, the National Caucus and Center of Black Aged, and Tuscola County. He was recognized as one of Millington's Most Honored Citizen and in 2000 the Human Development Commission dedicated a Caro area adult care center as "The LeeRoy Clark Center" in his honor. His life was dedicated to those less fortunate and his tireless energy was a moving force in numerous other organizations whose goals were to improve the quality of life for everyone, especially those with special needs. Surviving are his devoted wife, Eartha Mae (Billie) Clark; sister, Esther L. Ross of Flint; three daughters, Linda F. (Clyde) Childress of Millington, Charlotte A. Clark of Flint, Dr. Mary K. Clark of Ypsilanti; two grandsons, Lamont and Marvin Richardson of Flint; granddaughter, Nicole Roberson of Flint; great-grandson, Dequan McClendon of Flint; eight nieces, Barbara J. (John) McCraney, Janice Womack, Denice (Henry) Royster, Margene (David) Burkett, Brenda (Ron) Pirtle, Doloris (Major) Grays, Angela Ross, Marsha Clark, Dorothy Jean Seay and Lee Crystal Hutchinson; one cousin, Ruth Brown; two nephews, Fred Peeler III, George Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, William Lee Clark; sister, Ethel Moore; four brothers, Elliot, Roscoe, Kermit, Marshall Clark; and nephew Robert Seay. Viola M. Coltson, 95, of Tonawanda, N.Y., and formerly of Cass City, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in Schofield Residence, Tonawanda, N.Y. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Pastor Lyle Clarke of Cass City Church of Christ officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Timothy Hill Children's Ranch, Long Island, N.Y.

Thomas Lionel Crawford, Caro, Passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center-Harrison, In Saginaw. He was 49. He was born on March 20, 1953 in Saginaw and was a lifelong resident of Caro. He graduated from Caro High School and on September 6, 1975, married the former Cindy Layer in Caro. Tom was a self-employed used car dealer and owner of Tuscola Brokers, Caro. He was a member of the Caro Moose Lodge #1049. He enjoyed family, friends, nature, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Crawford; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Ed Ganley of Caro; one son, Cevin T. Crawford of Caro; his mother, Joanne E. Crawford of Caro; his twin sister and two brothers, Luanne Crawford of Caro, Tim Crawford and Mary David of Caro and Jon and Kelly Crawford of Caro; three nieces, Carrie and twins, Whitney and Kayla Crawford; his in-laws, Pauline and Lloyd Layer of Caro; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis E. Crawford on August 12, 1997. Funeral service was held at Caro United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Shaun Michael Day, of Goodrich, formerly of Caro, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 while at the Goodrich Hospice Center of Goodrich. He was 23 years of age. Shaun, the son of Connie and Bill McAdams and Bruce and Beckie Day, was born March 1, 1979 in Buford, South Carolina. He had resided in the Caro area before moving to the Goodrich area. Surviving are his parents, mother, Connie and stepfather, Bill McAdams of Lapeer, father, Bruce and stepmother, Beckie Day of Caro; brother, Joseph Day and stepsister, Jessica Day, both of Caro; two stepbrothers, Dustin and Cody McAdams-Marcicki; grandparents, Bev and Al Provoast and great-grandmother, Edith Provoast, all of Whitemore, Bill and Eula Day of Davison; aunt, Sedwyn Day, also of Davison; aunt and uncle, Reva and Mike Kidd of Otisville; two nephews, Tyler and Christian Day; as well as several cousins, extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by an uncle, Terry Provoast; grandparents, Ralph and Cathern Alt and a grandfather, Garfield Provoast. Funeral services were held Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with the burial following at the Smith Hill Cemetery in Otisville. Alison Lauren Emmert, 16, of Cass City left her earthly home at 6779 Houghton St. in Cass City and was welcomed into her heavenly home on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. She was given to her parents by the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 15, 1985, at Sinai Hospital in Detroit. Alison was a special gift from God. Her trademark was her smile. She was friendly to everyone and shared her faith in God and Christ with many. Her courage in the journey with rhabdomyosarcoma cancer this past year showed how much faith and love for God she had. With her humble influence, she no doubt heard those wonderful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," as she met her Master and Lord, Jesus Christ Sunday evening. She and her family are extremely grateful to their loving family, community and church for all their support and encouragement. Prior to Alison's illness, she was active in the Cass City sports programs of basketball and softball. She was a member of the Student Council and within the last week was inducted into the Cass City Chapter of the National Honor Society in a special ceremony conducted at her home. Alison was a member of Novesta Church of Christ, was active in her youth group, and also attended the Youth For Christ programs in Cass City. Alison had a passion for children and went on a short mission trip to Haiti and helped with the children on a mountain near Seguin. Alison is survived by her parents, Charles and Amy, and her brother, Craig, who had their lives filled with 16 years of loving memories. She is survived by 12 aunts, nine uncles, many cousins, and her grandmother, Dorothy Emmert, of Bangor. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nick and Hazel Plementosh and John Emmert. Alison's funeral service celebration will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Novesta Church of Christ, 2896 N. Cemetery Rd. in Cass City. Plans are being made to accommodate extra attendees. The services will be conducted by Dr. Keith Keeran, President of Kentucky Christian College in Grayson, Ky.; Mark McGilvery of Memorial Church of Christ in Livonia; Bill Meaige of Zanesville, Ohio; and Brad Speirs Youth Minister at Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City. Interment and committal will be at the Novesta Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Arrangements are being handled by Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Memorials may be made to the Novesta Church of Christ Youth Fund, the Wolverine Christian Service Camp, the Alison Emmert Scholarship Fund, or the Cass City Public School Athletic Boosters. Geraldine H. Endersbe, 87, of Bad Axe and formerly of Cass City and Bay City areas, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. She was born on May 27, 1914 at home in Elkton to Edward and Sylvia (Fetter) Gingrich. On Nov. 25, 1936, she married Stanley K. Endersbe in Cass City. He died on April 5, 1989. Geraldine attended Bay City Central High School. She worked for Dupre Grocery Store in Cass City. Her father, Ed Gingrich, started a piano business in Cass City. From that, Geraldine learned to play piano and became a music teacher. Over the years, she attended the Nazarene Church and Assembly of God Church. Florence Tuckey was Geraldine's first and favorite Sunday school teacher. Geraldine is survived by her children, Euleta Jeffrey and her husband, Jerry, of London, Tenn., Kenneth D. Endersbe of Bay City, Dwight E. Endersbe and his wife, Teresa, of Shelbyville, Ind.; grandchildren, Michael Jeffrey and his wife, Gwen, Greg Jeffrey, Laura Tarnacki and her husband, Bill, Matthew Endersbe and his wife, Deire McCliggott; great-grandchildren, Taylor Jeffrey, Julia Jeffrey, Tucker Endersbe, Leah Tarnacki; step-grandchildren, Billy Burchette, Misti Burchette; step-great-grandchildren, Quinton, Cheyenne, Zack and Dakota Burchette; brother, Raymond Gingrich and his wife, Mary, of Oscoda; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Deloris; brothers, Harold Gingrich and Dale Gingrich. Wayne J. Evans, of Vassar, died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Tendercare in Cass City. He was 86 years of age. Mr. Evans was born May 30, 1916 in Caro, the son of Edward Albert and Matilda Elizabeth (Chambers) Evans. He married Maxine L. Hendrick May 11, 1935 in Pontiac. She preceded him in death December 16, 1996. Mr. Evans was a member of the American Legion Post #229 and the Millington Church of the Nazarene. He was employed at Pontiac Fisher Body. He then owned and operated a general store in Wilmot for a short time before going into the military where he served in the U.S. Army in 1945. He retired in 1978 from Oakland County Department of Public Works with 10 years of service. Surviving are five children, Eldonna and husband Lee Schrader of Houghton Lake, Edward and wife Karen Evans of Vassar, Lawrence and wife Donna Evans of Chesaning, Sharon Lee and husband Joe McIntyre of Brownsville, Texas, Rebecca Evans at home; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, sister, Maxine Winifred Thorpe; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Mildred. Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Millington Church of the Nazarene. Reverend Edward A. Gertrude E. Fader, Unionville, Passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Tendercare in Cass City. She was 86. She was born on February 28, 1916, in Cass City and was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. The former Gertrude Putnam married Vern Fader on November 28, 1933, in Flint. He preceded her in death on August 23,1980. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Fader had been employed at Tom's Cafe, Alloy Metals, and retired from General Cable. She loved crocheting, sewing and quilting. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and Kedron Chapter #33 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by five sons and their spouses, Jerry and Mary Fader of Caro, Jim and Sandi Fader of Fairgrove, Bill and Norma Fader of Unionville, Douglas and Colleen Fader of Unionville, Bob and Rita Fader of Unionville, several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; one sister, one brother and his wife, Reatha Krisov of Denver, Colorado and Ernie and Cornelia Putnam of Port St. Lucie, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Marion Putnam of Eustis, Florida and Theresa Putnam of Port Charlotte, Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Don, Harold, Clifton, Leland and Richard Putnam; one sister, Beatrice Putnam; and one daughter-in-law, Joan Fader. Mabel V. Francis, 85, of Cass City died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002. She was born on June 26, 1917, in Deford to Harvey and Vina (Spencer) Palmateer. She married James Walmsley on Dec. 24, 1938, in Pontiac. He died March 7, 1945. She married Harold J. Francis on May 6, 1948, in Wilmot. He died on April 29, 1969. Mabel was a postmaster at the Deford Post Office for many years. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Caro for more than 50 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and raising eight children. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, also. Mabel is survived by her children, Nancy Watkins and her husband, Robert, of Ovid, Janet Thomas of Pompano Beach, Fla., James Walmsley and his wife, Pam, of Atlas, Carol Rutkoski and her husband, LaVern, of Cass City, Patsy Longuski and her husband, Dennis, of Cass City, Harvey Francis and his wife, Karen, of Cass City, Dennis Francis of Cass City and Vera Glass and her husband, Jack, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter Virginia Beaulieu; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Leota Anthes of Cass City, Alma Darbee and her husband, Willard, of Caro and Marion Frederick and her husband, Raymond, of Nevada; brother, Carl Palmateer and his wife, Joyce, of Cass City. Clarence George Gettel, 82, of Sand Point, passed away tragically on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, along with his wife, Phyllis, and grandson, Seth Schupan, as a result of an automobile accident in Gilford Township. He was born in Bay Port on April 26, 1920, the son of the late Herbert J. and Dora (Schubach) Gettel. After graduating in 1937 from Pigeon High School, he attended and graduated from Michigan State College in 1941. From April 1942 until his discharge as a Captain in February 1946, he served with the United States Army, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received an air medal as an observer for the artillery. He was united in marriage to Phyllis A. Leipprandt on June 29, 1946 at the Hayes Methodist Church and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1996. Clarence farmed for four years until 1950, when the family established the Gettel Implement Co., which he managed until retiring in 1986. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon, the Pigeon Lions Club, the Farm Bureau, and the Sand Point Association. He enjoyed boating, traveling to visit his children and grandchildren, and MSU sports, especially football and basketball. In addition to his deceased wife, Phyllis, his family includes: his son, James C. Gettel of Longboat Key, Fla.; two daughters, Marian Kaser, and her husband, Vaughn, of Los Osos, Calif., Jeanne Schupan and her husband, Marc, of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Ian, Elliott, Shayna, Seth (deceased), Jacob, and Jordan; a sister, Dorothy Parks and her husband, Charles, of Port Austin; two brothers, Herb Gettel and his wife, Doris, of Pigeon, Douglas Gettel and his wife, Judy, of Bloomfield Hills; a sister-in-law, Mary Gettel of Pigeon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara, and a brother, Loren. Phyllis Ann Gettel, 78, of Sand Point, passed away tragically on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, along with her husband, Clarence, and grandson, Seth Schupan, as a result of an automobile accident in Gilford Township. She was born in Bad Axe on Nov. 28, 1923, the daughter of the late E. Theo and E. Lillian (Sturm) Leipprandt. Following her 1941 graduation from Pigeon High School, Phyllis attended Central Michigan College, obtaining her teacher certification in 1943. She taught at the Maxwell School for one year and in Pigeon for two years. On June 29, 1946 she and Clarence G. Gettel were united in marriage at the Hayes Methodist Church and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1996. Mrs. Gettel was bookkeeper for the Gettel Implement Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, gardening, MSU sports, especially football and basketball, and her local club activities. She was a member of the Pigeon Worthwhile Club, the Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary, the Sand Point Association, and Farm Bureau. She also served as a Brownie, Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon, as well as the United Methodist Women at the church. In addition to her deceased husband Clarence, her family includes: son, James C. Gettel of Longboat Key, Fla.; two daughters, Marian Kaser, and her husband, Vaughn, of Los Osos, Calif., Jeanne Schupan and her husband, Marc, of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Ian, Elliott, Shayna, Seth (deceased), Jacob, and Jordan; three brothers, D. Amanda Goudie, 86, of Reese died early Saturday morning, Jan. 12, 2002, at The Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth. She was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Manistee, daughter of the late Hans and Genevieve (Guimond) Henrichsen and graduated from Manistee High School. On April 10, 1943, she was married to Robert Goudie in Troy, Ala. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1993. Mrs. Goudie was a resident of Bad Axe from 1946 until moving to Reese in 1966. She was a member of the Reese United Methodist Church, the Reese Senior Citizens, and enjoyed bowling, bingo and collecting teddy bears. She is survived by two daughters, Sharol Brechtelsbauer and her husband, Gene, of Reese, and Bonnie Gursh and her husband, Jeffrey, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda and Nathan Madsen of Grand Rapids and Kellie and Michael Mutton of Ludington; a brother, Marlan Henrichsen and his wife, Esther, of Manistee; two nieces and their husbands, Marla and Brian Baker of Holland and Carol and Rex Droit of Texas; and her special friend, Kathryn Yankee of Manistee. Christina Groombridge, 32, of Cass City died Thursday, May 9, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw as a result of a brain aneurysm. She was born April 12, 1970, in Caro, to Victor and Rosemary (Trisch) Matuszak. She married Matthew Groombridge on Aug. 21, 1999, in Cass City. Christina graduated as valedictorian in 1988 from Caro High School. She received her bachelor of arts in education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her masters in education was earned at Saginaw Valley State University. Christina taught school at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor and was completing her 10th year of teaching for the Bad Axe Public Schools, teaching math to seventh and eighth graders. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association and St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City. Christina loved teaching, collecting Barbie dolls and Snowbabies. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, karaoke, NASCAR and attending music concerts. She was very generous and loved doing things for other people. Christina is survived by her husband, Matt; stepdaughter, Heather Baker of Cass City; parents, Victor and Rosemary Trisch Matuszak of Caro; brother, Brian Matuszak of Clawson; her grandparents, Wayne and Mary Rabideau, and Donna Groombridge; her father-in-law, James Groombridge and his wife, Arlene, of Cass City; step-father-in-law, Alan Klco and his wife, Marilyn, of Cass City; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Groombridge and Katie Klco; two nieces; godparents, Connie and Mike Enos of Caro; brothers-in-law, Andrew Klco and Mitchell Ertman; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her two dogs, Knock-Knock and Woofer. Wilbert Anthony Guelette, Caro, 80, died June 10, 2002 at his home in Caro. He was born June 5, 1922, in Pearl Beach. He married Mildred E. Williams on September 11, 1943 in Indianapolis, Ind. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Known as "Mr. Will," he was a member of the Oscoda Lions Club, a foster parent of more than 70 newborns, and a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Alcona County, and for the 4-H for many years. He served on the Board of Social Services. He retired from the Fisher I Plant in Flint in 1975 and from Oscoda Area Schools in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Nancy L. (Rich) MacKenzie and Dawn M. (Ken) Parent; two sons, James S. (Phyllis) Guelette and Richard A. (Jane) Guelette; a sister, Barbara Jean (Carl) Worder; grandchildren, Richard A. MacKenzie III, Madonna McLean, Jennifer MacKenzie, Kristi MacKenzie, Richard A. Guelette II, Christine A. Ragatz, Carol J. Potter, Randy A. Jeffrey, Mathew A. Jeffrey, Cory R. Jeffrey, and Benjamin W. Parent; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Algonac, with the Reverend Thomas McNerney of Algonac Church of Christ officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Algonac. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscola County Big Brothers and Big Sisters.


Alvin Charles Guild, 87, of Cass City, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in his home. He was born April 15, 1915 at home in the Colwood area of Tuscola County to Oscar and Edith (Smith) Guild. He married Mayme (Mary Caroline) Strickland on Oct. 23, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio. She died on July 23, 1988. Alvin farmed until 1947. He drove a gas truck for Gulf (now Cass City Oil and Gas) and was a gasoline station attendant for a few years. He worked for Cass City Manufacturing and he worked 20 years for General Cable. Alvin visited Mio every two weeks since 1966 while Mayme was alive. He enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Cass City Gun Club. Alvin is survived by his children, Joyce Schad and her husband, Carter, of Caro, Gerald Guild and Lillian LaPratt of Caro, Linda Bossert and her husband, John, of Cass City; grandchildren, Dale Bradley, Melissa Guild Miller, Jennifer Weissenhorn and her husband, Joe, Gregory Guild and his wife, Bekki, Henry Gere and his wife, Darcy, Dawn Williams and her husband Rodney, Tony Bossert, Kevin Bossert; great-grandchildren, Carissa Davison, Mason Bradley, Jeron Guild O'Kelly, Greyson Guild, Trevor Miller, Chloe Weissenborn, Scott Gere, Travis Gere, Steven Gere, Jennifer Gere, and Loretta Fritz; loving sister and her family, Genevieve Matuszak of Caro. Harold I. Guinther, 77, of Cass City died in his home on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002. He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Redford Township to John and Marion (Brown) Guinther. He married Esther E. Esckilsen on Nov. 21, 1946, in Cass City. Harold served in the U.S. Army, serving three years in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Harold worked for Reed and Patterson Meat Market, Wesley's Creamery and then worked as a meat inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a former Little League coach, a member of the Cass City VFW Post No. 3644 and a volunteer fireman for 10 years. Harold served one term on the village council. He was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church and held several positions with the church as well as singing in the choir. He enjoyed hunting and sports of all kinds. He loved music, especially gospel. Harold loved to travel. Ruth A. Hall, Caro, Died early Sunday morning, April 7, 2002 at Covenant Health Care-Harrison Campus. She was 63. She was born on February 14, 1939 in Reese, daughter of the late Arthur and Magda (Kueffner) Kuck. She owned and operated Costumes by Ruth in Caro, sang in the Bay Chorale, and played the piano and organ at various churches and functions in and around the Caro community. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Caro and had been very active with Caro Arts Society. Ruth enjoyed skiing, painting, sketching, sewing and gardening. She is survived by her seven schildren, David Hall of Grayling, Tammie Trisch of Fairgrove, Ann Decker and her husband Richard of Fan Wood, New Jersey, Mary Jackson of Cass City, Renae Hall of Grand Rapids, Scott Hall of Caro, Gary Hall of Akron; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Cragg, Kara Trisch, Lynnette Trisch, Joshua Decker, Michalea Decker, Melanie Jackson, Jessica Jackson, Audrea Jackson, Scott Hall, Jr.; a sister, Virginia Weihl and her husband Jack of Reese; and a brother Glen Kuck and his wife Cynde of Chicago, IL. Funeral service took place 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10 from Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Truman E. (Heb) Hebner, died April 16, 2002, at his home in Orlando, Fla., after a long illness. He was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Detroit and lived in Bad Axe and Vassar until 1965 when he and his wife of 42 years moved to Florida. Heb, as he was known to his many friends, owned Hebner Block Co. and worked in construction for many years. In Florida, he worked as maintenance supervisor for Super Foods Co. until his retirement in 1983. Besides his wife Loretta, he is survived by her sons, Walt Logan of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Doug Logan of Belleville, Ill.; his daughters, Tamie Schelke of Bad Axe and Tracie Couzens of Tucson, Ariz.; five granddaughters; one grandson; a sister, Elaine Wensley of Ellensburg, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church where memorial services took place on Saturday, April 20, 2002.


Ralph Carl Hecht, 83, of Fairgrove, died early Wednesday morning, June 19, 2002, at his residence. He was born on May 17, 1919 in Denmark Township, son of the late Ludwig and Bertha (Rau) Hecht. He married the former Mildred “Millie” Engelhart on October 7, 1939 in Vassar. Ralph had been employed with Universal Manufacturing in Frankenmuth, retiring in 1981 after 40 ½ years of service. He also farmed in the Fairgrove area. Mr. Hecht was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, bingo and bird watching. Surviving in addition to his wife Millie of 62 years are his four children, Ralph H. Hecht of Fairgrove, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Roberts of Akron, Janet Schweitzer of Sebewaing, Linda (Bud) Campbell of Gilford; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; one sister, Milda Kern of Vassar, three brothers, Harvey (Sandy) Hecht of Linwood, Marvin (Jean) Hecht of Vassar, Dale (Sandy) Hecht of Saginaw; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Herbert C. Heidger Sr., of Vassar died on Monday, November 25, 2002. Mr. Heidger was born on April 23, 1933 in Saginaw. He moved to Vassar in his early teens where he resided for the rest of his life. He was employed by United Plastic where he retired with a disability. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and his computer, as well as his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-children and many cousins. Stella E. Hennessey, 77, of Cass City passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, peacefully in her home. She was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Decker to William and Lena (Wentworth) Patch. She married Daniel Hennessey on Nov. 24, 1947, in Decker. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1992. Stella loved nursing and worked as a nurse's aid at Morris Hospital and Provincial House for nearly 20 years combined. She was a member of Sutton Sunshine Methodist Church in Colwood. She enjoyed playing pool and at one time played on leagues with her husband. Stella loved her kids and grandkids and spending time with them. She enjoyed baking and did so nearly every day. Loretta M. Herzog, 97, of N. Hinson Road., Fairgrove, lower Michigan, passed away at her granddaughter’s home on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002. She was born on March 8, 1905, at Rice Lake, Wis. and until 1997 lived in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The former Loretta Mae Mischler married Robert Edmond Herzog on March 25, 1925, and he preceded her in death after 43 years, in August of 1968. She was a faithful witness of Jehovah since 1946. During these past 56 years, she has had the privilege of helping many others come to know and dedicate their lives to Jehovah. Loretta enjoyed sewing, traveling, cooking, and baking. Some of her family and friends’ favorites were her bran muffins, homemaker biscuits and “O Yes” her carrot bars. She raised more than her four children, assisting others in raising many children over the years. Loretta was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by two sons, Robert Bruce and Jackie Herzog of Harrison, lower Michigan, and Robert Charles and Alona Herzog of Chatham; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Herzog of Coleman,Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jayne Brandt of Morris, Ill.; two sisters-in-law; many, many nieces and nephews and a son-in-law, Harold Mitchem of Iron Mountain. Kim Grant Hopper, Cass City, Died unexpectedly Saturday, April 6, 2002 in Hills & Dales General Hospital. He was 48. He was born August 19, 1953 in Caro to Theron A. and Onalee M. (Keilitz) Hopper. He married Joanne E. Esckilsen March 19, 1976 in Cass City. Kim graduated from Cass City High School in 1971. He then began working at the Caro Regional Center where he stayed for 23 years. During that time he served as Union Steward and Presidnet of Local #831. Kim attended Northwood University and Central Michigan University studying Health Care Management. He enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting and at one time raised Springer Spaniels. He loved baseball, watching the Tigers, coaching his son's little league team and playing fastpirch softball. Kim loved to read and had a passion for justice. He enjoyed gardening, especially his roses. He was a very supportive father and husband. After his retirement from the Regional Center, Kim was a housedad taking on many of the day to day responsibilities of raising his family. Kim is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Emily Jo Hopper of Saginaw, Eric Theron Hopper at home, Zachery Andrew Hopper at home; mother, Onalee M. Barbara L. Isham, of Vassar, died suddenly Monday, December 9, 2002 at the Michigan Cardiovascular Clinic in Saginaw. She was 62 years of age. Barbara Lou Black was the daughter of Ken and Melba (Cousins) Black and was born in Unionville on February 11, 1940. She grew up in the Unionville area and graduated from Unionville High. On April 21, 1971 she married David Isham and together they celebrated 31 years of marriage. Mrs. Isham worked for the Tuscola County Advertiser for 15 years, and when she left the Advertiser she became the secretary for the Vassar United Methodist Church, of which she had served the past 21 years. She also served as the church organist as well as the organist for Hanlin Chapel for Funerals and she also played from time to time for funerals at the Clark Funeral Home. She assisted in the community crop walk and cooked chili for the annual pumpkin roll. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Club, the Monday Nighters and sang in the church choir. Surviving is her family, husband, David Isham of Vassar; children, Gayanne and Steve Owens of Vassar, Dean and Sue Johnson of Caro, Scott and Brenda Isham of Clifford, Christine and Pat Trisch of Caro, Stephanie and Mike Holway of Prattville, Alabama; 15 grandchildren; mother, Melba Black of Bay City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Pat Black of Brown City, Keith and Janet Black of Bay City; two nephews; and other extended family and many friends. Virginia A. "Ginny" Kelley, 63, of Cass City died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw after a battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 8, 1938, in Patterson, N.J. to Robert and Virginia (Bigelow) Wood. She married Scott C. Kelley on June, 24, 1959, in Durham, N.H. Ginny worked for Cole Carbide for 30 years. She loved life and loved spending time with her family and friends. Ginny is survived by her husband, Scott; children Melanie Hobbs and her husband, Allen, of Zurich Lake, Ill., Craig Kelley of Cass City, Wendy Rainey and her husband, William, of Schaumburg, Ill., Melissa Kelley of Cass City; grandchildren Ryan Hobbs, Ericka Kraus, Brittany Hobbs, Adam Kelley; brother, Bigelow Wood and his wife, Sandy, of Biddeford, Maine; brother-in-law, George Kelley and his wife, Cheryl, of Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Jackie Garland and her husband, Robert, of Barrington, N.H., Starr Kelley of Dover, N.H. and Sharon Cummins and her husband, Donald, of Gagetown; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Wood and brother-in-law, Vern Kelley. Following a private visitation for her family, Ginny will be cremated and a memorial service as a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Henry Kreilach, 86, of Rochester, died Nov. 4, 2002. He owned the Bloomfield Hills Barbecue and was retired from GM. Mr. Kreilach was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Sherry Flor and Ann Lang; a sister, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Nov. 6 at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home. Harold J. "Bud" LaFave, Bay City, Michigan Harold J. "Bud" LaFave, age 80 years, husband of the late Norma A. (Guenther) LaFave (05/06/2002), passed away peacefully at Bortz Health Care of Rose City on Thursday, April 19, 2007. He was born on September 28, 1926, in rural Gagetown to the late Henry and Agatha (Rocheleau) LaFave. Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving our country during WWII. He was a barber for over 50 years and co-owner of Bud and Norm's Barber Shop on Johnson Street for 27 of those years. Surviving family members include four children: Jeffrey (Michele) LaFave of Bay City, Cynthia LaFave of Manchester, CT, John LaFave of Tempe, AZ, and Henry (Janet) LaFave of Bay City; six grandchildren, Leigh, Paige, Grant, Paul, Ben, and Sarah; two sisters, Elaine Prieur of Alpena and Willa Birch of Lehigh Acres, FL. An infant brother, Edward, and two sisters, Helen Wright and Genevieve Kehoe preceded him in death. The family would like to give special thanks to Dave Phillips for all of his support, and extend their deepest appreciation to all of the caregivers at Bortz and Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice. George A. Lapp, 79, of Cass City died Sunday, June 9, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on April 18, 1923, in Detroit to Ray T. and Amy (Humes) Lapp. He married June P. Shagene on July 2, 1955, in Argyle. George served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. After returning from the service he worked for Nestles in Cass City, and for a time in Pontiac working construction. George retired in 1985 from General Cable as a foreman after more than 20 years. He was a member of the Masonic Tyler Lodge No. 317 and was to receive his 50-year pin this month. George was a very active life member of the Cass City VFW Post No. 3644 and a life member of the Cass City Gun Club, where he served as president for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. George loved watching sports on television, especially the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. George is survived by his wife, June; children, Robin Horne and her husband, Don, of Cass City, Vicky Lander and her husband, Alton, of Cookeville, Tenn., Barry Lapp of Caro and Tracy Lapp and his wife, Silvia, of Windemere, Fla.; grandsons, Patrick Horne, Kalihib Lander and Levi Lander; brother, Ray Lapp and his wife, Sandy, of Caro; sister, Louella Huntwork of St. Charles. Robert "Buck" E. Lefler, 64, of Cass City died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, May 3, 2002, in his home. He was born July 10, 1937, at home in Decker to Aaron and Violet (Janek) Lefler. He married Doris M. Miller on May 15, 1965, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Buck was a self-employed master carpenter. He was a cabinetmaker and also a mason. Buck served in the U.S. Army after the Korean War. Buck was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the quiet and beauty of the woods. He enjoyed tinkering with and repairing boats, cars and other things. Buck loved his family and he especially loved spending time with his grandsons. Buck is survived by his wife, Doris; son Aaron Lefler of Mayville; grandsons Jarred, Jacob, Zachary and Christian Lefler; brothers Clinton A. Lefler and his wife, Sally, of Columbus, Ohio, Everette W. Lefler and his wife, Marcia, of Rochester Hills, Aaron Ernest Lefler of Clear Lake, Fla., James Lefler and his wife, Beth, of Cass City, and Richard Lefler and his wife, Darlene, of Auburn Hills; sisters Marie Ulatowski of Cass City, Irma I. Steed and her husband, Bill, of Hudson, Fla., Virginia Lefler of Birmingham, and Anna M. Abbey and her husband, Robin, of Lapeer; sister-in-law Norma Kolsaa and her husband, Frank, of Williamston; and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Albert LeGue, 80, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Heartland of Bridgeport. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar. Albert William Legue, of Vassar died on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Saginaw. He was 80 years of age. Mr. Legue was born on April 28, 1922 in Bad Axe the son of Michael and Josephine (Carbou) Legue. He lived in the Vassar area most of his adult life. On August 22, 1941 he married Shirley Jean Barnefiske. She preceded him in death on July 17, 1989. Mr. Legue was employed at Millington Screw Products for 13 years. He serviced in the U. S. Army. Surviving is his family, five daughters, Patricia Kula, Margaret (Fred) Deming, Linda (Theron) Skinner, Rosan (Cork) Deming, all of Vassar, and Rita (Larry) Jewell of Harbor Beach; one son, Albert M (Barb) Legue of Lake Butler, Florida; 30 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Stella Ann Lindow, 84 of Reese, died peacefully Wednesday November 9, 2005 at home. She was born on June 2, 1921 in Bay City, daughter of the late George and Anna (Stobel) Jurkiewicz. She married John Lindow on September 26, 1940; he predeceased her on September 12, 1989. Stella was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese and was known for her beautiful smile, her love for the outdoors, fishing, gardening and touring her yard in her golf cart. Surviving are her sons, Ted Lindow, Robert (Carol) Lindow; daughters, June (Richard) Schramke and Jeanne (Charles) Rogers; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; one brother, George Jurkiewicz and one sister, Sophie Ratynsky. In addition to her husband John, one daughter Sandra Langley predeceased her on February 13, 2002. -FUNERAL SERVICE- A Graveside committal service will take place on her birthday at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Denmark Cemetery in Reese. Mabel "Mickie" G. Marshall, 87, of Cass City died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 in her home. She was born Oct. 21, 1914 in Rudyard to George J. and Mary Jane (Gardner) McKee. She married John W. Marshall Dec. 10, 1936 in Lansing. Mickie attended Ferris State University after her high school graduation. She was a charter member of the Cass City Business and Professional Women. She was a life member of the OES Echo Chapter No. 337 serving as a past matron. Mickie was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church and served as a past president of the United Methodist Women. Over the years, Mrs. Marshall worked for the Secretary of State in Lansing, for Bauer Candy Company, for her husband and son's John Deere business, and finally for Marshall Distributing until retirement in 1984. Mickie loved to cook, bake, and sew. Mickie is survived by her husband, John; son Roger Marshall and his wife, Linda, of Sand Point; granddaughters, Jeanne Huddleston and her husband, Paul, of Rochester, Minn., and Kathy Zimba and her husband, Dennis, of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Martin Huddleston of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John McKee and William McKee; sisters, Margaret McKee, Josephine McKee, Eva Holmes, and "Boots" Jacobsen. Jennifer Kathryn Martin, Caro, formerly of Royal Oak, Passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, following a lingering illness, at the age of 44. She was born on July 7, 1962 in Royal Oak to the late William and Kathryn (Bailey) Martin. She was a lifelong resident of Royal Oak until she moved to Caro in 2002 to be closer to her family. Jennifer received her certificate of completion from the Lamphere Center in Madison Heights. She also attended Jewish Vocational Services. Jennifer loved animals, her dog, Tootie and cat, Kayla. She loved coloring, puzzles, the Lotto, Power Rangers and working for Pizza Hut in Royal Oak. She will be missed dearly by her family, especially by her best friend and brother, Vernon. Jennifer was a member of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her siblings, Vernon H. Martin of Caro, Ronald W. (Elaine) Martin of Caro, Curtis A. (Jean) Martin of Merritt and Patricia (Raymond) Tatonetti of Lake City; one aunt, Ruth James of Royal Oak; one great-aunt, Helen Mendel of Wheeling, WV; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leota E. (Elliston) Mathews, of Vassar, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Frankenmuth Care Center of natural causes. She was 94 years of age. Mrs. Mathews was born on February 2, 1908 in Vassar where she was a long time resident. She was the daughter of Oscar Alonzo and Lucy Ann (Currie) Elliston. In September of 1928 she married Wesley F. Mathews. He preceded her in death in 1970. Mrs. Mathews retired from the Vassar School System with over 40 years of teaching behind her. She was a 60 year plus member of The Order of Eastern Star, Millington Chapter #390, the First Presbyterian Church of Vassar, and the Michigan Retired School Personnel Association. After retirement, she became a world traveler with visits to such areas as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, England, Egypt and Greece to name but a few. For over 12 years, she spent the winter in Hilo, Hawaii with her friend Elsie Rosselit. Surviving is her son, Dale W. Mathews and wife, Joyce of Holt; one grandson, Roy Musgrove and wife, Kay Keating; one granddaughter, Amber Musgrove; 14 nieces and nephews, Robert Elliston (Charlene), Mary Jane Cuthberson (Wright), Rex Elliston (Genevieve), John Elliston (Ruth), Douglas (Ernestine) Matthews, Sharon Matthews Bennett, Gloria (Fain) Blevins, Phillip (Delores) Matthews, Sandra (Tom) Mikulski, Kay Matthews, Vivian (Dale) Pebley, William Marzoff, Dorothy McNally, Cecil Marzoff; her very special friend, Alma Swanson; and many other close friends who helped during her illness. Pearl McIntosh, 83, of Caro died Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Tuscola Medical Care Facility in Caro. She was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Argyle to Fred and Minnie (Bundo) Swarthout. She married Basil A. McIntosh on Dec. 18, 1937, in Ohio. He died Nov. 14, 1997. During World War II, Pearl worked in a factory. She worked for Arthur's Department Store and the local dry cleaner. She was a real estate broker for 25 years. She was a member of the Elks lodge. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking. Pearl is survived by her children, Richard McIntosh and his wife, Linda, of Lapeer, Edward McIntosh of Ann Arbor, Joan Suder and her husband, Jim, of Caro and Gary McIntosh of Pelston; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Berdie O'Neil and her husband, Red, of Port Huron and Lillian Mutter of Lansing; her brothers, Paul Swarthout of Osanek and Fred Swarthout of Holly; and many nieces and nephews. Ronald McLaren, Caro, Died Friday, December 27, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident. Age 50 years. He was born August 24, 1952 in Marlette, Michigan the son of Leonard and Loretta (Smith) McLaren. He was a 1970 graduate of Marlette High School. Ronald worked at Ponitac Motors, and he helped his father on the family farm. He was a member of the Colwood United Brethren in Christ Church, Caro, and active in the Caro Pumpkin Festival. Steven Joseph Meffer, 30, of Cass City died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident. He was born March 8, 1971, in Grosse Pointe to John J. and Penny (Bennett) Meffer. Steven graduated from Marlette High School. He worked for CSS Concrete in Cass City. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmachines, three- wheelers and music. He loved his children and spent time working with them on the computer. He played trumpet in high school and occasionally joined in with friends playing bones and a little guitar. Steven is survived by his wife, Dawn M. Meffer; children, Steven, Samantha, and Tyler Meffer, all at home; parents, John and Penny Meffer of Bad Axe; brothers, Jim Meffer and his wife, Angie, of Gulliver, and Johnny Meffer of Warren; sisters, Barbara Moase and her husband, Jimmy, of Charlotte, N.C. and Anita Meffer of Bad Axe; and six nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Meffer; grandparents, John and Helen Meffer, and Robert and Olive Bennett. Pearl Marie Menzel, 79, of Mayville died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in Saginaw at St. Mary's Medical Center. Pearl was born July 15, 1922, in Pigeon to William and Luanna (Weidman) Bechler. She lived in Mayville for the past 34 years and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She is survived by a son, Dale Bechler of Mayville; a daughter, Linda Berry and her husband, Daniel, of Mayville; two brothers, Roland Bechler and his wife, Phyllis, and Clare Bechler and his wife, Donna, both of Pigeon; one sister-in-law, Mildred Bechler of Pigeon; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in 1985; and a brother, Robert Bechler, in 2002. Roy B. Messer, 77, of Caro passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. He was born on March 3, 1924, in Bertha, Minn. and came to Michigan in 1955, where he took a job with Chrysler Corporation in the space program. On Aug. 13, 1960, he married the former Eleanor Meihofer in Detroit. They lived in New Orleans from 1962 through 1968. Then in St. Louis, Mo. and returning to Michigan, retiring in 1970. After his retirement, he returned to farming and did so in Elmwood Township from 1970 until 1985. While a resident of Elmwood Township, Roy served 10 years as the Elmwood Township Supervisor. The Messers moved to Caro in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Bach and their school board. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Messer of Caro; three children, Rochelle Sabo and her husband, Louis, of Marlette, Leslie McAlloon and her husband, Wayne, of Gympie, Queensland, Australia, and Bruce Messer of Caro; eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by a step-grandson Devin Seigo, two brothers and three sisters. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with pastor Eric Lambart officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Arlene A. Moore, 64, of Caro died on Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in an automobile accident in Tuscola County. Donald M. Moore, 74, of Cass City died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, after a short illness. He was born June 23, 1927, in Palms to Charles and Elizabeth (Warschefski) Moore. He married Janice F. Dean on July 29, 1950, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Palms. Don worked at Walbro for more than 10 years and then as a welder for Kelsey-Hayes in Marlette until his retirement. After his retirement, Don continued welding projects from his home. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City. Don enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting and deer hunting. Don is survived by his wife, Janice; a son, Duane R. Moore and his wife, Marsha, of Bay City; a daughter, Brenda Burns and her husband, Thomas, of Cass City; and grandchildren, Tracy Messing and her husband, Nick, Terri Moore and Tommy Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City with the Rev. Gerald Meyer officiating. Calvin Clark Morrish, 76, of Grant Township near Cass City went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on Sept. 24, 1926, on a farm in the Cass City area to Charles and Esther (Kittendorf) Morrish. He married Iris Churchill on Jan. 1, 1949, in Hazel Park. She survives him. Calvin retired in 1984 from Ford Motor Co. He moved to the Cass City area in 1985. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe and enjoyed the fellowship there. He enjoyed fixing cars and small engines, hunting and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Iris Morrish; eight children, Linda Bedore and her husband, Gary, of Sarasota, Fla., Jeanne Hagan and her husband, Earl, of Harrison Township, Norval Morrish of Royal Oak, Calvin Morrish Jr. and his wife, Susan, Paul Morrish and Michael Morrish, all of Ferndale, Donna Morrish of Ubly, Brian Morrish and his wife, Debbie, of Moscow, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Morrish and his wife, Dolores, of Traverse City and Harold F. "Floyd" and his wife, Sally, of Cass City. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Susan Marie; three brothers, William, Jack and Louis; four sisters, Aletha Fox, Helen Howey, Mildred Darr and Lavara Laming; one grandson, Harold E. Morrish. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Free Methodist Church of Bad Axe. Pastor Jerry Sutton will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Linda Ann Mueller, Richville, age 50, died Thursday, September 21, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper. Linda was born February 14, 1950 in Saginaw, the daughter of Mr. Mrs. Willis and Beverly (Allen) Miller. She and William Mueller were united in marriage July 20, 1970 in Flint. She loved her family, which was her whole life. Left to cherish her memory are, husband William; children, Richard Thomas Mueller, Christina Lynn Mueller, Melissa Ann Mueller all of Vassar and Lynnette Andrea Mueller of Richville; grandchildren Ryan, Draven, Magdeline and Brock; parents Willis and Beverly Miller of Vassar, 3 brothers Dave and Cheryl Lake George, Fred and Barb Miller of Flint, Jim and Mill Miller of Kingston; 1 sister Joan Kern of Frankenmuth. Lyle Murry, 90, of Sebewaing and formerly of Caro, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Caro Community Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lyle was a graduate of Akron High School. He was a World War II veteran serving in France and England. Lyle Murry and the former Dorothy Trisch were married on Oct. 18, 1942, in Caro. He owned and operated Caro Wrecking Co.until his retirement in 1962. He was a member of the Theron W. Atwood American Legion Post No. 7 in Caro, VFW Post No. 4164 in Caro and the Caro Moose Lodge No. 1049 since 1946. He was a former Indianfields Township supervisor. Lyle was friendly with a fun-loving personality. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Murry, of Sebewaing; special niece, Geraldine Tibbits and her husband, Lewis, of Sebewaing; special nephew, Roy Murry and his wife, Betty, of Holt; two sisters-in-law, Lena Murry of East Lansing and Deloris Trisch of Caro; niece, Joan Litito of Sand Lake; many great-nieces and great-nephews; many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Horace Murry, on Sept. 16, 2001. The funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery with military graveside services under the auspices of Caro VFW Post No. 4164. Robert L. Neiman, 88, of Cass City, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in his daughter's home in Cass City. He was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Bay City to John and Minnie (Hendrick) Neiman. Robert farmed most of his life. He retired from General Motors as a millwright and also worked many years in a sugar beet factory. Robert is survived by his children, Richard Neiman, of San Diego, Calif., Lila Arroyo and her husband, Luis, of Cass City, Elvin Neiman and his wife, Carol, of Sacramento, Calif., Marion Hyatt and her husband, Mack, of Ortonville, Robert Neiman of Walled Lake, Minnie Ilene Radick and her husband, Gilbert, of Vassar, James Neiman of Denver, Colo.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; special companion, Lois Stover of Cass City. He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Della Jean; and his brothers, Albert Neiman and Egbert Chase. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Kranz Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald E. Comfort of Ellington Church of the Nazarene officiating. Margery A. Peterson, 73, of Indianapolis, Ind., and formerly of Deford, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Methodist Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. A committal service will take place at her grave in Novesta Township Cemetery in Cass City in the spring. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.


Robert E. Peterson, 57, resident of Bad Axe, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 while on the job with the Bad Axe Fire Department. He was born March 11, 1945 in Cass City, son of the late Sheldon and Eleanor (Casey) Peterson. On July 24, 1965, Bob and Doreen Schroeder were united in marriage at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Bob worked for Cass City Cable, Gulf Gas Company, Peterson and Sinclair Gas Station, Reimann-Snyder Furniture, Lou's Pure Gas Company, Thumb Area Transit manager, R.J. Reynolds Company salesman, and owner of the Peterson Penzoil Oil and Lube Center of Bad Axe for 11 years. He was a 1963 graduate of Bad Axe High School. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, playing cards, and being with family and friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the church ushers club. He was the captain of the Bad Axe Fire Department from 1986-1993 and a member of the department for 34 years. He was a board member of the Huron County Fire Department Association. Bob is survived by his wife, Doreen; one brother, Richard S. Peterson and his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe; three aunts, Anna Humphrey and her husband, Cliff, of Bad Axe, Angeline Otterbein of Bad Axe, Eudore Peterson of Harbor Beach; one uncle, Jim Casey Sr. and his wife, Joyce, of Kinde; two sisters-in-law, Judy Gwisdalla and her husband, Elmer, of Bad Axe, Elaine Grifka and her husband, Jim, of Caro; one step father-in-law, Robert Messing of Millington; Robert Messing's children and their spouses: Pat and Richard Rutkowski of Vassar, Marvin and Kathleen Messing of Ortonville, Dennis Messing and Darleen of Macomb; and several nieces and nephews. Roy A. Pomeroy, Vassar, Died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at his residence, Toy was born March 12, 1924 in Reese, the son of Ona J. and Blanche McKay Pomeroy. He married Beatrice E. Curvin May 19, 1953. Roy was a veteran of WWII, and a member of Akron-Farigrove VFW Post 7486. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at U.S. Graphite for 38 years and had also worked in real estate sales. Besides his wife Beatrice he leaves three sons and two daughters, Lynette and Fred Sakuta of Caro, Fred and Susie Pomeroy of Deford, Ed and Marcia Pomeroy of Wilkes Boro, N. Carolina, Richard and Bonnie Pomeroy of Midland, Kerry Nickens of Caro, 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Holzwarth of Unionville. He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Pomeroy; three brothers, Bud, Jay and Jr. Pomeroy; and one sister, Ruth Nitshky. Helen Blaylock Price, 84, of Caro passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at her daughter's residence in Bad Axe. Helen was born on May 26, 1918, in Bad Axe. She lived in Huron County until 1960. The former Helen Kolberg married James Blaylock on Feb. 29, 1936. He preceded her in death in May 1961. She then married Melvin Price in 1987. He preceded her in death in 1994. While living in Bad Axe, she was employed for years at the Bean Pot, and upon moving to Fairgrove, she owned and operated J & H Restaurant. Helen then worked until her retirement as an attendant nurse at the Caro Regional Center. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, playing cards, and crocheting. She is survived by three sons, James Blaylock of Burton, Robert Blaylock and his wife, June, of Flint and William Blaylock and his wife, Carolyn, of Caro; two daughters, Arlene Becking of Bad Axe and Sharon Kastraba and her husband, Charlie, of Caro; one daughter-in-law, Sue Blaylock of Davison; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Isler of Caro and Jewel Schray of Lansing; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sons, Thomas and Fred; eight siblings, Walt Kolberg, Edna Popham, Olga Patterson Thorton, Richard Kolberg, Elmer Kolberg, Albert Kolberg, Ervin Kolberg and Alfred Kolberg. Shirley R. Rabideau, 80, of Port Austin died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro. She was born on Sept. 14, 1921, in Cass City to Charles and Emma (Seeger) McCaslin. She married Leland Rabideau on Nov. 15, 1947, in Cass City. He died on May 26, 1985. Shirley worked for Walbro for 17 years. She wintered in Fort Meyers, Fla. for 15 years. Shirley was a member of Hills & Dales General Hospital Auxiliary. For years, she entertained her family and friends at her home on the lake. She enjoyed ceramics and home decorating. She was a wonderful cook and she loved to dance. Shirley is survived by her children, Karen Parsell of Caro, Richard Gracey and his wife, Gloria, of Texas City, Texas, Mary Ann Stanley and her husband, William, of Flat Rock and Lynnea Rabideau Matthews and her husband, Daniel, of Pinconning; grandchildren, Troy Parsell and his wife, Anne, of Caro, Dawn Vandemark and her husband, Daniel, of Caro, Lian Mowry and her husband, the Rev. Jay D. Randall, 63, of Vassar, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002 in his winter home in Hudson, Florida. He was born on August 9, 1938 at home in Kingston to Leslie and Irene (Dulak) Randall. He married Dorothy Crawford Hilborn on June 3, 1995 in Vassar. He served in the U.S. Army in Fort Stewart, GA. as the driver for a colonel. He worked for General Dynamic as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He was the final inspector of the MIAI tanks. He was a tool and die journeyman. He spent six years in Egypt. He was a past member of the Kingston Lions Club and the past president of the Kingswood Inn in Kingston. He enjoyed and sponsored blooperball, baseball, softball and basketball teams in the Thumb area. He began an annual Father's Day tournament. He was a professional Santa Claus for many years, bringing many area families gifts and visits to help brighten their holiday. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Suzanne R. (Michael) Alexis of Atlanta. GA., Jay D. Larry L. Rayl, 43, of Gagetown, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City following an 18-month-long illness. He was born Dec. 15, 1959 in Deford, son of Linel and Janet (Field) Rayl. Larry owned and operated Iron Man Roofing Company in Gagetown for several years. He enjoyed deer hunting. He is survived by his fiance, Rose Marie Ward of Gagetown; parents, Linel and Janet Rayl of St. Helen; one son, Everett Rayl of Port Huron; grandmother, Iva Field of Deford; three sisters, Joan McCabe her husband, Robert, of Flint, Wendy Canada of Phenix, Va., Tammy Kain of North Pole, Alaska; Rose Marie's children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and many friends. The funeral service will take place at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Kaethe Roemarie (Braun) Raymond, Caro, Kaethe was born on March 11, 1951, in hof, Germany. She received citizenship Aug. 21, 1995 in Michigan. Kaethe passed away Saturday morning, April 22, 2006, in her home. Surviving Kaethe are husband, Robert Raymond of 20 years; two daughters, Lisa and Lori Groth of Caro; two stepsons, Jeffery and Mike Raymond of Mt. Pleasant; two sons-in-law, Eric Slavens and Ronald Gould of Caro; sisters, Erika (Braun) Payne and Betti Braun; brothers, Alexander Braun and Joseph; grandchildren, Alexander Green, Katiana and Dayze Slavens. Kaethe was an Eagles Club member of Caro for many years. Her hobbies were playing pool, euchre, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, bingo, shopping, spending time with family and friends. Daniel H. Risdon, Cass City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in Hills and Dales General Hospital at the age of 49. He was bonr May 4, 1953 in Flint to Leonard and Mildred (Harris) Risdon. He married Kathy Ann Zemke April 1, 1986 in Caro. Dan graduated from Lakeville High School. He worked for the Caro Center as a supervisor and resident care aid retiring in June after 31 years of service. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family. Dan played the guitar and enjoyed Bluegrass music. Dan is survived by his wife, Kathy; chidlren, Jeremy Daniel Risdon of Caro, Jeffery Wayne Risdon of Saginaw, Samantha Shay Risdon of Cass City; step chelren, Shannon (Doug) Zdrojewski of Muskegon, Savannah Thorp of Muskegon; grandchildren, Dylan Zdrojewski and Rachel Zdrojewski; parents, Leonard and Mildred Risdon of Otisville; sister, Janice Ann (Eugene) Koski of Otisville; niece, Chritina Koski of Millington; nephews, Charles Koski of Oscoda and Robb Koski of Millington; brother-in-law, Kurt Zemke of Ponitac, Christopher (Nancy) Zemke of Caro; father and mother-in-law William and Joan Zemke of Deford. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law William Zemke; and uncle Floren Risdon. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Eric Holmgren of Cass City First Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Novesta Township Cemetery in Cass City. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.
