David Charles Ashmore, 85, of Cass City died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Laurels of Mount Pleasant Nursing Home. He was born on Oct. 8, 1915, in Grant Township to William and Helen (Harrington) Ashmore. He married Wilma L. Hartsell on Jan. 25, 1942, in Elkton. Charlie worked for Gambles in Cass City for 20 years and then retired from General Cable after 22 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved working in his gardens. Charlie and his wife attended Cass City United Methodist Church. Mr. Ashmore is survived by his wife, Wilma; children, the Rev. David Ashmore and his wife, Andrea, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy Elliott and her husband, Tommy, of Ypsilanti, Roger Ashmore and his wife, Mary, of Bay City, Henry Ashmore of Bay City, Dale Ashmore and his wife, Clara, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sharon Grant and her husband, David, of Saginaw, Karen Meyer of Cass City; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Ashmore and his wife, Cathleen, of Mayfield, Justus Ashmore and his wife, Shirley, of Tawas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Lynn Ashmore; brothers, Bill, Sam, Clarence and Ted Ashmore; sister, Lula Kozan. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Dr. Philip Rice of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. He will be buried in Grant Township Cemetery in Gagetown next to his daughter. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pall bearers will be Scott Ducolon and Chris Ashmore, Robert Ashmore, Dale Charles Ashmore, Roger Ashmore II, Cory Meyer and Heidi Sopcak. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church.
Tony Asperger, age 80, died Thursday May 3, 2001 at Caro Communtity Hospital. Tony was born February 12, 1921 in Caro, the son of Mr. And Mrs. George and Mary (Kreps) Asperger. He married Norma B. TerBush November 03, 1943. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a member of the Reese American Legion Post #139. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at Turnsted-Coldwater Plant for 28 years. He is survived by: Wife: Norma of Vassar; 4 Chilidren: Gary & Gail Asperger of Vassar; Toni Kay and Dennis Hadeway of Fairgrove; Tom and Nola Asperger of Vassar; Scott and Beth Ann Asperger of Walled Lake; 10 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; 2 Brothers and 1 Sister: George and Amelia Asperger of Dalton, Ga.; Paul Asperger of Flint; Helen Poppy of Caro. Ernest C. Auernhamer, died at his home following a brief illness on Monday, July 9, 2001. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Auernhamer was born the son of Carl J. and Alma E. (Hecht) Auernhamer on October 8, 1927 in Denmark Township. Mr. Auernhamer was confirmed and an active member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and school in Richville having served in various capacities. He was drafted in 1950 and served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Auernhamer retired from Consumers Power (Power Company) Energy in Saginaw after 36 years of service. He voluntarily served with the Richville Fire Department, was a member of the Richville Conservation Club and the Richville Lion's Club where he participated in numerous fundraising campaigns and was the last remaining charter member of the club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, wildlife, wine and sausage making, farming, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his children and their spouses and grandchildren, Roger E. and Patty Auernhamer and their children, Katlyn and Kyler of Longmont, Colorado, Audrey and Arlis VanDeVeer and their children, Robin and Sally of Vassar, Ann E. Basnight and her children, Neeah and Harry of Sterling, Virginia, Phyllis G. and Greg Squanda and their children, Megan and Aaron of Saginaw, Bradley W. and Ann Auernhamer and their children Kara and Kyle of Vassar. Also surviving is one sister and three brothers and their spouses, Lorna M. Kern of Vassar, Ruben R. and Mildred Auernhamer of Frankenmuth, Howard E. and Edith Auernhamer of Vassar and Glenn N. and Nancy Auernhamer of Reese. Also Janet Wilson Auernhamer, the mother of his children, his dear and close friend Beverly Wolinski, of Prudenville and extended family and many good friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 13, 2001 at St. MichaelÕs Lutheran Church in Richville with Rev. David E. Hakes and Rev. Wesley L. Gillaspie officiating. Maxine (Sherman) Babcock, of Vassar, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001. She was 79 years of age. Mrs. Babcock was born October 3, 1921, the daughter of Nelson and Flossie Sherman. She was a member of the St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church. Surviving are her sons, Harry and wife Brenda Babcock of AuGres, Joseph and wife Verbia Babcock of Vassar; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Babcock. Funeral services were held Friday, May 25, 2001 at the St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church with Father John Ederer officiating. Donna R. Baker, of Vassar, died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was 75 years of age. Mrs. Baker was born on October 19, 1925 in East Dayton Township, the daughter of Ray C. and Cora (Hodges) Smith. On December 1, 1943 she married Orren Baker and together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Mrs. Baker was a cook for the Vassar Public Schools for 28 years, retiring in 1987. She loved to do needlepoint, quilting and crafting. Surviving is her family, husband, Orren; two children and their spouses, Robert (Bob) and Janet of Vassar, David and Linda of Plainwell; four grandchildren, Kim and husband Brad Jenks of Vassar, Scott and Beth Baker of Ypsilanti, Stacey and Wally Krantz of New York City, Michael and Kara Baker of Reese; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Dylan, Luke; four sisters, Nettie Curvin, June Terbush, Isabelle Hecht, Leora (Dic) York; one brother, Hugh Smith; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, September 24, 2001 at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar with Pastor Rick Sheppard officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Red Cross Disaster Fund. Mabel F. (Prusi) Baldwin, of Millington, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She was 76 years of age. Mrs. Baldwin was born July 27, 1924 in Metz, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Lena (Ludwig) Grambau. On November 2, 1946 she married Matt W. Prusi. He preceded her in death in 1961. In April of 1970 she married Erwin Baldwin. He also preceded her in death in April of 1986. Mrs. Baldwin was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church serving on the Dorcas Society and also volunteered for years with the Bethesda Charity Society. She retired from Weber's IGA after 31 years as a clerk. Surviving are her four children, son and daughter-in-law, Walfred (Walli) and Diane Prusi of Fairgrove, daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bob Wager of Millington, Linda and Rick Rock of North Branch, Kathy and Doug Cole of Port Huron; five grandchildren, Ted, Kimberly, Melissa, Courtney and Kelly; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Abbey, Matt, Mike Maylynne; and a very special and dear friend, Olive Muntin. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Prusi in June of 1974, as well as three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, 2001 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with burial following in Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor James Brunner officiated. Agnes C. Zelmer Benson Caro, formerly Fairgrove Died Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2001 at her home. She was 76. She was born on July 29, 1924 in Yale, daughter of the late John and Mildred (Yeager) Downey. She married Adam Zelmer in 1941, and he predeceased her in 1965. Later Agnes married Wilfred Benson; he predeceased her in 1980. She retired from the Caro Regional Hospital as supervisor over housekeeping. Mrs. Benson was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fairgrove. She had enjoyed traveling, bingo, cross-stitch, crocheting, knitting and playing cards. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Tom and Nancy Zelmer of Vassar, Roger and Kerri Zelmer of Caro, Carol and Dennis Wireman of Cadillac, Janet and Denny Ryan of Akron; stepchildren, Terry and Jerry Benson, Rick and Lynn Benson, Judy Benson, all of Bay City; 11 grandchildren, Dallas, Cindy, Penny, Roger, Jennifer, Josh, Tracy, Kathy, Shawn, Denny and Adam; five stepgrandchildren, Chris, Tim, Brian, Bethany and Jennifer; six great-granchildren, Katisha, Nuala, Devilin, Fineen, Alex, Lakeyn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, Adam and Wilfred; one son, Kenneth J. Zelmer; two sisters and one brother predeceased her. Kristen L. Boyle, 14, of Kingston, died February 16, 2001 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born May 22, 1986 in Saginaw to Michael and Pamela (Allan) Boyle. Kristen was a Freshman at Kingston High School. She participated in Volleyball and Track. She enjoyed swimming, shopping and spending time with her friends. Kristen hoped to be a marine biologist. She is survived by her mother, Pamela (Harry Perkins) Boyle; brothers: Michael Bennett Boyle of Caro, Benjamin Bennett Boyle of Kingston; sister, Candice Ann Boyle of Kingston; grandparents: Marvin and Elizabeth Lambert of Kingston, Frank and Tonna Boyle of St. Helen, Beverly Allan of Caro; aunts and uncles: David and Michelle Allan of Caro, Newt and Debbie Robinson of Caro; cousins: Lynda Robinson, Michael Robinson, Brian Robinson, Travis Parrish and Tiffany Parrish. Sharon Fowler Broadworth, 60, wife of Randy Broadworth, of Caro, Mich., died Jan, 17, 2001. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Furman John and Lillian Elizabeth Fowler. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Sybil Martinson of Greer; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Rick Adams of Hickory Tavern, Robbin and Gerry Gusek of Kingston, Mich., and Ronda and Matt Caverly of Mount Morris, Mich.; a sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Rufus Phipps of Mauldin; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Following Sharon's wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. S. Martin Atkins officiating. Burton Budry, Reese, Died early Sunday morning, August 19, 2001 at his residence. He was 85. He was born May 12, 1916 in Gilford Township, Tuscola County, son of the late Arlie and Lottie (Van Buskirk) Budry. He married the former Claire Chaperon, January 29, 1941 in Bay City. Mr. Budry farmed in the Gilford Township all his life and was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Reese. Surviving besides his wife Claire, are three children, Philip Budry and his wife Carolyn of Reese, Timothy Budry of Fairgrove, and Carol Balas and her husband Larry of Grand Rapids; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Doris Krause of Saginaw. In addition to his parents Mr. Budry was preceded by a granddaughter Wendy Sue Balas in 1982 and his brother Stanley Budry. Mass of Christian Burial and commital services were celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday August 22 from St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Reese. Rev. Fr. Paul R. Burger, age 86, of Charlotte, Michigan formerly of Flint, died Wednesday March 7, 2001 at Hayes- Green- Beach Hospital in Charlotte, Michigan. Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday March 12, 2001 at the Christian Faith Church in Mt. Morris with Rev. Donald O'Leary officiating. Burial will be in Demorest Cemetery in Akron, Michigan at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Paul was born November 4, 1914 in Akron, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reid and Jennie ( Horner) Burger. He married Maxine Burgess April 23, 1949. She preceded him in death June 28, 1999. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at Chevrolet Mfg. for 22 years. Vernon W. Bush, 76, of Caro died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Hills and Dales General Hospital after a long illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Trout Lake to Westley F. and Elizabeth (Davy) Bush. He married Carol White on March 22, 1973, in Flint. Vern worked in roofing and construction for many years. He liked to cook, walk and travel. Vern was an animal lover, especially of cats. Vern is survived by his wife, Carol; sons Wesley Bush of Mount Pleasant and Kevin Bush of White Water, Wisc.; a sister, Darlene Vincent and her husband, Louis, of Iron Mountain; a brother, Harold Bush and his wife, Beverly, of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Francis, Earl and Leonard; an infant sister, Audrey; and sisters Joyce Thompson and Lillian Briggs. Memorial services will take place on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Pickford United Methodist Church in Pickford. The Rev. Lynn Chappell will officiate. Myrtle Seney-Bush, of Vassar died at her residence on Monday, October 8, 2001. She was 77 years of age. Mrs. Seney-Bush was born on April 1, 1924 in Vassar and was a life-long resident. She was the daughter of Albert and Edna (Best) Houghtaling. On November 12, 1942 she married Lloyd Seney and he preceded her in death in May of 1992. She later remarried Raymond Bush on September 10, 2001. Surviving is her family, husband, Raymond; two children and their spouses, Gary and Sally Seney, Faith Jeanette and Bob Heinlein, all of Vassar; four grandchildren, Kendra and Paul Knox, Wendy Seney, Sarah and Tom Reid, Hannah Denniston; five great-grandchildren, Kalin and Mitchell Knox, Jenna and Bradley Guile, and Zachary Denniston. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Houghtaling. Evelyn A. Butler, 88, of Cass City died on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Janet Marie Church, 57, of Gagetown passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Cass City on March 1, 1944, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Keel) Creason. On Oct. 21, 1972, she married Neuman Church in Owosso. Mrs. Church was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Cass City Post No. 3644, and was a member of the Friendship Club of Owosso and the Mid-Thumb Crickets Chapter No. 95 of the Good Sams Club. Surviving along with her husband, Neuman, are her sons Brian and Robert Mosher, both of Cass City, and Lyle Church and his wife, Rose, of Owendale; a daughter, Lori Church of Pigeon; a granddaughter, Jasmine M. Church; brothers Gerry Creason and his wife, Harriet, of Deford, and William Creason and his wife, Jean, of Virginia; sisters Nancy Urban and her husband, David, of Cass City, and Becky Halasz and her husband, Joseph, of Gagetown; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Creason. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the Gagetown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Township Cemetery. Daniel Lee Root Cooper, 46, of Cass City died suddenly on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born August 1, 1954, in Cass City to Elmer J. and Mary Ann (Vargo) Root. He married Sally A. Severance on Sept. 28, 1985 in Shabbona. Dan worked for Active Feeds in Owendale. He previously worked as a DHIA technician in Sanilac County for 12 years. He was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and played on the church softball team. Dan was a Little League baseball coach and an assistant minor league baseball coach. He enjoyed his yearly rabbit hunting trip and enjoyed gardening. Dan was a big NASCAR Racing fan. Dan is survived by his wife, Sally; son, Brent Daniel Cooper at home; parents Max and Mary Ann Cooper of Cass City; brothers, Timothy Cooper and his wife, Jean, of Greenleaf, Wis., E. Enid F. Craig, 82, of Cass City passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Covenant Health Care Harrison in Saginaw. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Cass City United Methodist Church with Dr. Philip Rice officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 19, at the church. Joyce Currier, 62, of Imlay City, died Sept. 23, 2001. She was born July 3, 1939, in Clawson. She married James R. Currier in Lapeer on Aug. 8, 1993. She was employed by Hotchkiss Homes Inc., Silverwood, as a Group Home Supervisor for 15 years. She attended Faith Baptist Church, Brown City. She is survived by her husband, James of Imlay City; daughters, Tammy (Daniel) Winslow of North Branch, Teresa (James) Nivison of Tracy, Calif., Tonja (Marcus) Mere of Swartz Creek; son, Edward Lagness of Caro; step-children, Cheryl (Ron) Miller of Almont, Deborah (D.J.) Lillian M. (Germain) Cyr, of Vassar, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 while at the Saginaw Health Source. She was 96 years of age. Mrs. Cyr was born April 25, 1905, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Beers) Ennest, and was a Vassar resident her entire life. She was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Vassar. On March 24, 1924 she married Harry Germain. He preceded her in death in January of 1974. She later married Cecil Cyr on November 18, 1977. He also preceded her in death in January of 1984. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Maxine Germain Jr., Clinton and Onalee Germain, all of Vassar; stepdaughter, Betty Cyr of St. Helen; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Violet, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the Chapel Hill Assembly of God in Vassar with burial following at the Millington Township Cemetery in Millington. Wallace S. Czekai, 61, of Cass City died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Barb's Adult Foster Care Home in Fairgrove after a short
illness. He was born July 28, 1940, in Marlette to George and Doris (Greenleaf) Czekai. He married Ruthann C. Muntz on Sept. 24, 1959,
in Cass City. Wally worked at General Motors for 34 years. He was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Wally enjoyed camping and gardening. Wally is survived by his wife, Ruthann; children Kim Williams and her husband, Tim, of Wayne, and Kevin Czekai and his wife, Jennifer, of
Rotondo West, Fla.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Crawford of Caro; brothers Richard Czekai of Flint, Gary Czekai and his wife, Margaret, of Cass City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on
Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve Filion officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Amethyst Davidson, of Millington, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at the Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Davidson was born February 13, 1912 in Millington where she had been a life long resident. She was married to Donald Davidson. He preceded her in death in January of 1999. Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Carlhon (Pat) and Vera Holmes of Florida; sister, Anna Marie Rittenger of Virginia; four nieces; and many close friends and neighbors. Raymond DeMaertelure, 64, of Akron passed away at home on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; son, Raymond and his friend, Renee, of Jackson; daughter, Melissa and her fiance, Patrick Peariso. Russell E. Donigan, of Vassar, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Cartwright Center V.A. Hospital in Saginaw. He was 74 years of age. Mr. Donigan was born on September 5, 1926 in Flint, the son of Horace and Olive (Hossler) Donigan. On April 4, 1952 he married Patricia Wild and together they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Mr. Donigan moved to Vassar in 1994 from Frankenmuth. He had been employed at WNEM TV for 43 years, as an engineer, retiring in 1994. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy. He participated in the Underwater Demolition Team #15 and was a Bronze Star Medal Holder given for Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Frankenmuth Post #2725. He attended Vassar First Baptist Church faithfully. Surviving is his family, wife, Patricia; two daughters, Elizabeth Cronkright of Iron River, Melissa Donigan of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Allen Williams, David Wargo; three brothers, Lloyd Donigan of Flint, Ralph Donigan of California, Burton Donigan of Florida; one sister, Maxine Shimmons of Mt. Joshua David Dressler, 21, of Akron, died Tuesday evening, July 24, 2001, from injuries received in a pick up truck accident near Bellaire. He was born April 28, 1980, in Bad Axe, son of Larry Jacob and Treva Fern (Swartzendruber) Dressler. Joshua was a 1998
graduate from the Caseville High School. He was employed by J. J. Communications as a lineman. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mark E. Fackler, of Millington, died Thursday, May 10, 2001 at his residence. He was 74 years of age. Mr. Fackler was born July 7, 1926 in Beaverton, the son of Homer and Frankie Raymond Fackler. On October 23, 1954 he married Winnie P. (Susie) Lemunyon and together they celebrated 46 years of marriage. Mr. Fackler had resided in Millington since 1954 moving from the Flint area. He had been employed as a heat treat operator for General Motors Turnsted Plant in Flint where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII in the South Pacific. Surviving is his family, wife, Susie; seven children, 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild; a sister; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy Ann Fent, of Cass City died on suddenly on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. She was 39 years of age. Born on November 7, 1961 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of James A. and Rosa M (Wood) Piske. She came to Michigan as an infant with her parents and has resided here since. On June 11, 1983 she married Paul E. Fent at the Watrousville United Methodist Church where she was a member and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She worked for several years as a childcare provider in daycare centers and then became a lead teacher with NEMCSA Headstart in Bad Axe and Cass City for the last 13 years. Mrs. Fent enjoyed going out with her family on the Great Lakes in their boat and collecting lighthouses and bears. She is survived by her husband Paul and their son Aaron, her parents, James and Rosa Piske of Hersey, Michigan; one sister, three brothers and their spouses, Darlene and Durk Brown of Kirksville, Missouri, Keith and Kristy Piske of Westland, Michigan, Dean and April Piske of Reese and Dale Piske of Traverse City; and two nephews. Burton W. Fields, Caro, Passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at his residence. He was 77. He was born on Oct. 21, 1923, in Vienna, S.D. Burt was a graduate of Bryant High School in South Dakota. He married the former Norma Patterson on Sept. 25, 1954, in Cass City, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1994. They lived in South Dakota for the first ten years of their married life where Burt had farmed. They returned to the Caro area in 1964, and have lived here since then. Burt served as a Seaman First Class with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had been employed with the Tuscola County Road Commission as a licensed mechanic for 20 years. Burt liked to read, putter with mechanics, and spend time with his grandchildren who meant a whole bunch to him. He is survived by seven sons, John and Janet Fields, Burton Fields, Ronald Fields, Jeffery Fields, Kenneth Fields, David Fields all of Caro, Paul Fields and his fiance, Tina Bitzer of Wyoming; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was precdd in death by one son, Phillip Fields, on February 4, 1995; and was the last of nine children-four brothers, Ervin, Clayton, Eugene, Lloyd; and four sisters, Alida Martens, Nancy Martens, Mabel Bradfeldt and Fern Fields. Funeral service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Sarurday, March 24, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Hollender officiating. Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Leslie Fisher, of Hubbard Lake, formerly of Millington, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at his residence. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Fisher was born February 18, 1914 in Missouri, the son of Henry and Jenney (Smith) Fisher. On December 31, 1938 he married Leanore LaBrecque and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage. He retired on March 1, 1972 after 38 years as an oiler with General Motors/Chevrolet, Local 659. He was a lifelong member of the Vienna Masonic Lodge #205. Mr. Fisher had moved to the Hubbard Lake area from Millington in 1999. Surviving is his family, his wife, Leanore; one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Nancy Fisher of Brooksville, Florida; two grandsons, Curtis Jr. of Millington, Christopher and wife Lorraina of Oscoda; special nieces and nephews, Jack and Loretta Fisher, Ray and Janet Fisher, Bob and Carol Fisher, Shirley and Gene Sweet; and many other nieces and nephews. Richard A. Foster, Fairgrove, Died Sunday March 18, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper in Saginaw. He was 56. Richard was born May 11, 1944 in Caro, the son of Robert and Grace (Noble) Foster. He and Alana Rogers were united in marriage on August 24, 1968 in Bay City. Richard was a lifelong farmer on the family farm and an elder and trustee of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included truck and tractor pulling for over 30 years and working in the farm ship with his son. Left to cherish his memory are, wife, Alana, daughter, Jennifer and husband, Rick Lines of Naples, FL, son, Rob and wife Tanya Foster of Fairgrove; three granddaughters, Emily and Amanda Lines and Carmen Foster, who will miss their loving Papa; sister Diane and husband, Terry McBride of Sanford, aunt, Lucille Noble of Caro, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Gary F. Freeman, Fairgrove, Died Wednesday, October 11, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 52. He was born July 29, 1949 in Bay City, son of Frederick and Ann (Koteck) Freeman. He attended Akron-Fairgrove High School. He was married to Kathy Ruiz on September 28, 1991. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. Mary A. Gage, age 89, of Sandusky and formerly Fairgrove area, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at her daughter's home in Sandusky. Mary was born June 20, 1912 in Fairgrove, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Viola (Sherman) Hickey. She and Richardson Gage were united in marriage November 5, 1930 in Akron. Mary was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Essexville. Surviving are, her husband, Richardson of Sandusky, children, Alice and husband Rudy Kosik of Essexville, velma jean and husband Duane Houthoofd of Sandusky, Betty Lou and husband Oscar Donohue of Grand Blanc, Dick and wife Pat Gage of Colorado, 23 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren. Carl E. Gleason, of Vassar/Millington died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. He was 83 years of age. Mr. Gleason was born on June 25, 1917 in Millington, the son of John and Lila (Plummer) Gleason. On October 12, 1946 he married Eleanor Remein and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. In 1972 he retired from Franklin Products Machine Shop where he worked part time as a machinist. Mr. Gleason lived in the Vassar area for 29 years and grew up in Millington. He was very active in baseball, at one time was a boy scout leader and started the first scouting troop in Millington. He was known in Millington as "The Kid." Mr. Gleason was a veteran of WWII and served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist Mate. Surviving is his family, his wife, Eleanor; four children and their spouses, Sharon and Roger Stackhouse of Woodhaven, Linda and Bruce Mitchell of Vassar, RuthAnn and Brian Bush of Livonia, Douglas and Janey Gleason of Vassar; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, seven brothers and a great-grandson. Floyd T. Graham, of Millington died Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Graham was born August 31, 1913 in Detroit, the son of Carl T. and Rebecca M. (Tuttle) Graham. He was self-employed a as handyman and also worked for Cobb's Gas Station in Millington as an attendant. He lived most of his life in Millington moving from Detroit. Surviving is his family, one brother, Glenn Graham of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Rebecca Yorke of Millington; several nieces and nephews; as well as
great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great nephew. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Gertrude E. Hadeway Fairgrove Died Sunday, July 15, 2001. She was 81. Gertrude was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Kilmanagh, the daughter of Paul and Emma (Woldt) Ertel. She and John Hadeway were united in marriage Nov. 7, 1942 in Saginaw. Gertrude was a founding member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove serving on many boards, committees and the Ladies Aid. She was also a founding member of the Board of the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home Auxiliary. Gertrude was active with these groups until her death. Surviving are her husband, John; son, Dennis and wife Toni Kay Hadeway; two grandchildren, Jon-Garrett and Bryan; sister, Alma Sandall; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia K. Hartman, 57, died Wednesday morning, March 7, 2001, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 17, 1943 in Sebewaing to the late Robert and Mildred (Carr) Nutt. Virginia and William J. Hartman were united in marriage on June 11, 1960, in Unionville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1993. Gladys Haufman, Formerly of Fairgrove, age 95 died Saturday March 24, 2001 at Carriage House in Bay City. She was born December 9, 1905 in Fairgrove the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Fanny (McAlpine) Campbell. She and Willis L. Haufman were united in marriage on December 17, 1930. He predeceased her January 3, 1992. She was a member of Fairgove Presbyterian Church. Surviving are daughter: JoeAnne and husband Pat Barriger of West Branch; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Katherine Ann Hebert (Irvine), of Vassar, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at Covenant Health Care-Harrison in Saginaw. She was 41 years of age. Mrs. Hebert was born on May 23, 1960 in Wayne County, the daughter of John and Bessie (White) Irvine. On June 27, 1997 she married Todd R. Hebert and together they celebrated four years of marriage. Mrs. Hebert had been employed at McDonald's Restaurant in Vassar for six years. She loved gardening, doing cross stitch, loved being a mother and enjoyed being with friends and family. Surviving is her family, husband, Todd; three children, Jessica, Adam, Justin, all at home; father and stepmother, John and Lorena Irvine of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; three brothers, Randy Irvine of El Dorado Hills, California, Tim Irvine of Saginaw, Greg Irvine of California; two sisters, Julie Maurer of Ann Arbor, Jill and husband, Darrell Gumm of Lebanon, Ohio; mother and father-in-law, Leo and Carrie Hebert of Vassar; several nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as extended family and many friends. Elaine Lynn Hennig (Lennox), of Vassar, died Thursday, May 17, 2001 at home. She was 41 years of age. Mrs. Hennig was born February 7, 1960 in Flint, the daughter of Gerald and Sybil (Harrison) Lennox. She was raised in Fenton and was a 1978 graduate of Fenton High School. On July 23, 1990 she married Kevin Hennig and together they celebrated 10 years of marriage. She worked as a florist and paramedic most of her adult life. She excelled at arts and crafts work and enjoyed taking pictures. She also spent the last seven years breeding high quality Cocker Spaniels. Mrs. Hennig was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister. She gave herself to help others and had many wonderful memories because of it. She spent the last four years in Vassar in a home in the woods that she dreamed of living in and was an active member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Vassar. She raised three beautiful and gifted children, Amanda, Christopher and Joel Conner. She was a very loving, caring and devoted wife. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by her husband, children, family and friends. Surviving besides her husband, Kevin and children are her parents, Gerald and Sybil Lennox; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Connie Lennox; one sister, Jennie Lennox, all of Fenton; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Mary B. Herman, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, in the Carriage House of Bay City. She was born to the late Cyriel and Pharailda (Dafaegher) Matten in Blissfield. Mary was married to John C. Herman who preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1967. She helped her husband on their Tuscola County farm for many years. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bay City. She was an avid square dancer and gardener and enjoyed walking. Mary walked over the Mackinac Bridge nine times over the years. She is survived by four daughters, Irene M. Roth of Bay City, Elaine M. Brown and her husband, Robert, of Filion, Maryann B. Borkowski and her husband, Thomas, of Bay City; and Joan M. Kreger and her husband, Carl, of Auburn; 16 grandchildren, Thomas Roth, Kathleen Kennell and her husband, Andy, James Roth and his wife, Mary, William Roth and his wife, Trisha, Randy Brown and his wife, Arlene, Lori Leppek and her husband, James, Dennis Brown and his wife, Tami, Robert J. Margaret A. Hoig, age 66, a home maker, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. Mrs. Hoig lived in Clifford, Michigan for 57 years. She was born September 20, 1934 in Pontiac, Michigan daughter to the late Albert and Ruth (Paul) Kitts. She married Merle Hoig June 19, 1954 in Clifford, Michigan, he passed away January 9, 1987. Mrs. Hoig was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clifford, Michigan. Gordon J. Houghteling, Caro, Passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his residence. He was 46. He was born on August 3, 1954, in Bay City. Gordon was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County and a graduate of Vassar High School. On June 13, 1986 he married the former Lisa Martin. Gordon was a 23 year employee with the Village of Caro, and for a time he managed the Caro Mobile Estates. He was a body builder, liked riding bikes, landscaping and making lamps. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; two children, Amanda Yeo of Millington and Christopher Houghteling of Vassar; his mother, Geraldine Houghteling of Vassar; his step-mother, Peg Houghteling of Vassar; one brother, Gary Houghteling of Saginaw; one sister and spouse, Deb and Edward R. Laverne R. Huber, of Vassar, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at her daughter's residence. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Huber was born March 19, 1934 in Vassar, the daughter of Milo W. and Lilly M. (Putman) Allbee. She lived her entire life in Vassar. On June 25, 1955 she married Ruben Huber. He preceded her in death in December of 1976. She had been employed at the Frankenmuth Motel for several years. Mrs. Huber was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Birch Run. Ila Jean Hunt, 67, of Deford died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in her home after a long illness. She was born on April 10, 1933, in Cass City to Albert and the late Hannah (Gotts) Neiman. She married Harold S. Hunt on April 14, 1951, in Cass City. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month. Ila worked for Walbro retiring after 40 years. Florence E. Johnson, of Vassar died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Stratman Manor in Vassar. She was 88 years of age. Miss Johnson was born May 5, 1912 in Vassar, the daughter of Eulie and Addie (Sturgis) Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Vassar and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Vassar. She retired in 1971 from Stacer Sales and Service Auto Dealership in Vassar where she was a bookkeeper. Surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew, Thelma and Don German of Vassar and Godchild, Carol Erickson. Mrs. Kurth was born August 26, 1917 in Brown City, the daughter of Lee and Bertha (Allen) Morse. Her husband, John Kurth preceded her in death in 1990. Charles Euel Martin, of Vassar, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at his home. He was 79 years of age. Mr. Martin was born January 14, 1922 in Paris, Tennessee, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Sarah Ophelia (Johnson) Martin. He was a Veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He and Evelyn Rasch were united in marriage April 26, 1946. He worked for Fleet Carrier Corporation as a truck driver for 30 years and was a member of American Legion Post #108 - Oxford, VFW Post of Oxford and the Teamsters Local #614. Cirilo B. Martinez, 77, of Saginaw and formerly of Caro, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Tendercare in Saginaw. He was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Castroville, Texas. Cirilo married Pauline Sturgis, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 1973. They returned to Texas and then moved to Michigan 50 years ago. He had worked in the automotive industry in the Pontiac area and then moved to Tuscola County. He was a volunteer for social services and had received an award from the organization for his services. He is survived by eight children, Jesse Martinez and Carol Catt of Caro, Andrew Martinez and Linda Leahey of Caro, Gloria Aguilera of Austin, Texas, Jonathon Martinez of Watertown, S.D., Michael Martinez of Caro, Cecil and Penny Martinez of Watertown, S.D., Carol and Douglas Mills of Cass City, and Sarah and Leroy Ocker of Lake Orion; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete Martinez and Amellio Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Sturgis; one son, Danny; two grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be conducted at the Caro Assembly of God Church at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, with Pastor Arnold Burger officiating. Werner J. Mattson, 98, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2001 at his home in Marlette. He had lived in Marlette since 1971 and was previously from the Ann Arbor area. He was born on April 27, 1903 in Duluth, MN., son of the late John H and Hannah Mattson. He married Helen Green on February 6, 1971 in Oxford, MI. He was an office manager for U. of M. Ann Arbor for 16 years until his retirement in 1965. He also worked in Marlette for Schlichter's Hardware and Long's Furniture as an accountant and did custodial work at the Marlette Post Office. Mr. Mattson was well known for his work for the Marlette Police Department as a Bea McDonald crossing guard for several years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Caro, Mi. He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on September 27, 1974 and Temple Sealing took place on November 13, 1976. He is survived by his wife Helen of Marlette; sister-in-laws, Leota Lee of Marlette, Nelda Green of Brown City and June Green of Marlette; and several nieces, nephews and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Hamand and Victor Mattson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Caro with President Ronald Wing officiating. Otis H. Miller, Vassar, age 92, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at St.Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Otis was born October 23, 1908 in Elkton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. and Lou L. (Hazard) Miller. He and Frances L. Fuller were united in marriage May 21, 1932. She preceded him in death June 25, 2000. Otis worked as a farmer and retired from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. Surviving are, his daughter Sandra Miller of Vassar; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, brothers Lee and Don Miller, and sister Joyce Perez. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with Pastor Douglas Stockwell officiating. Burial in Tuscola Cemetery. Lloyd Wesley Mobley, 82, of Oxford, Mich., a native of Rector, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Lapeer (Mich.) Regional Hospital. Mr. Mobley was born April 22, 1919, in Rector to Minnie and Cullen Harris Mobley of Rector. He was a longtime resident of Lapeer and Tuscola counties. He married Evelyn (Shaver) Robinson on June 21, 1975, at Silverwood United Methodist Church. He was the principal broker at the Red Bird Realty Agency of Lapeer and was known throughout the country for his training of Tennessee Walking Horses at Red Bird Farms of Oxford. He was a lifetime member of Walking Horse Association of Michigan. He enjoyed showing horses and field trials for dogs and also loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; six children, Mary Jane (Edward) Caustin of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Billie Jeane Williamson of McMinnville, Ore., Lloyd Wesley (Linda) Mobley Jr. of Berthoud, Colo., Susan Robinson of Columbiaville, Mich., William (Tammy) Robinson of Mayville, Mich., and Shelley (Ron) Clark of Columbiaville; two brothers, Bill Mobley of Rector and Donald Mobley of Tulsa, Okla., 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Donald (Donny) S. Moran, of Vassar, died Friday, September 21, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 35 years of age. Mr. Moran was born on December 8, 1965 in Port Huron, the son of Edward D. and Helen M. (Wilks) Moran. Surviving are his parents, Edward and Helen Moran of Vassar; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Mark DeMar of Port Huron, Susan and Larry Kurtz of Vassar; four nephews, Ryan, Andrew, Joshua and Alexander. Patricia Sue Morey, of Vassar, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at her home. She was 65 years of age. Mrs. Morey was born August 6, 1935 in Saginaw, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter and Laura (Davies) Enos. She and Guy D. Morey were united in marriage June 30, 1953 at the Vassar United Methodist Church. She attended Chapel Hill Assembly of God in Vassar. Mrs. Morey enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening and crocheting. Surviving are her husband, Guy D. Robert Russell Musall, 65, of Cass City died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Hills and Dales General Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Gagetown to Edward and Gretta (Gill) Musall. He never married. Bob worked for Erla's Food Center and Packing for 51 years, retiring in 2000. During this time, he worked as meat cutter, salesman, truck driver and butcher. Bob worked six days a week since he was 14. Bob is survived by his brothers, Don Musall of Bad Axe, Carl Musall of Washington, and Gary Musall; and many friends, including Ken and Jean Klinkman of Deford and Jeff Krol of Cass City. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Musall and two brothers, Dale and Richard Musall. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City, with Pastor David Edwards of Cass City Missionary Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Rochelle L. Myers, of Millington, died suddenly Monday, February 5, 2001. She was 32 years of age. Miss Myers was born April 13, 1968 in Saginaw, the daughter of Richard and Janice (Anderson) Myers. She had been a resident of Millington most of her life and graduated from Millington High School in 1986. Miss Myers was a member of the Arbela United Methodist Church and a member of the Clio Cast and Crew. She was very involved with Job's Daughters: Bethel Guardian Bethel #63, past Honored Queen of Bethel #63 Otisville of the International Order of Job's Daughters of Michigan, Holder of the Grand Triangle and member of the Naurma Hall Chapter O.E.S. of Otisville. She had once worked at Walt Disney World in Florida and was currently employed as a nanny for the Richard Matthews family in Southgate, Michigan. Surviving are her parents, Richard (Dick) and Jan Myers of Millington; two brothers, Richard Myers of North Lake, Robert and wife Shayna Myers of Millington; niece, Danyel Fisher; grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Anderson of Vassar; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Raymond and Pearl Myers and Alfred Anderson. Ella J. Pearl, 68, of Caro died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 2, 2001, in her daughter's home. She was born on Feb. 3, 1932, in Pontiac to Sidney E. and Mae E. (Callender) Proper. Ella owned and operated Danny's Flowers in Mount Morris for nearly 25 years. She was very supportive of the local schools, churches and veterans. She loved spending time with grandchildren and at the flower shop. Ella is survived by her children, Kimberly Green and her husband, Irwin, of Caro, Daniel Pearl of Clio and Lawrence Kirwan of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandsons Ryan Green and Michael Green, both of Caro; a sister, Emma Peter of Flint; a cousin, Bob Callender and his wife, Dorothy, of Flint; and special friends, Eva McClung and Janet McClung. She was preceded in death by by her parents and a brother, John Proper. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in the Caro First Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald C. Helen C. Petzold, of Millington, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home. She was 88 years of age. Mrs. Petzold was born on August 23, 1912 in Birch Run, the daughter of John and Anna (Meyer) Woelzlein. She married Gustav Petzold on October 4, 1931 in Millington. He preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Petzold helped run the family farm. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington and a charter member of its Dorcas Society. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Rudy Petzold of Caro, Chester and Shirley Petzold of Vassar, Milly List of Frankenmuth; five grandchildren, Geoffrey and Teresa List of Williamston, Laurie and Rick O'Connor of Millington, Carmen and Randy Bauer of Loveland, Ohio, Jeremy and Melissa Petzold, John and Heather Petzold, all of Vassar; seven great-grandchildren, Sean O'Connor, Rachel and Zachary List, Eric and Jonathan Bauer, Landon and Serena Petzold; a sister, Norma Hegenauer of Frankenmuth; a sister-in-law, Leona Woelzlein of Birch Run; and many nieces and nephews. Norman Edward Petzold, of Millington, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 while at the Covenant Medical Center-Harrison campus. He was 81 years of age. Mr. Petzold was the son of William and Anna (Goetz) Petzold and was born in Arbela Township March 15, 1920. He was a lifelong resident of Millington. On June 6, 1943 he was united in marriage to Anita Keinath and together they have shared 58 years of marriage. He has been a lifelong and at one time a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was employed at the V-8 engine plant of GM and was a UAW member Local #659. He was also a lifelong farmer, farming all his life in the Millington area. He loved to bowl and belonged to many various bowling leagues. He also loved camping and at one time was an active member of the Airstream Camping club. Surviving is his family, wife, Anita Petzold of Millington; five children, Norman W. and Vera Petzold of Vassar, Bernadine Petzold of Southfield, Carol and Stephen Smith of Empire, Ruth and Ernst Zwack of Frankenmuth, Marlene and Alex Herrera of Florida; his grandchildren, William and Carl Petzold of Vassar, Jace, Blake, Cale and Amanda Herrera of Florida, Tammy Lanham and family; two sisters, Eunice Hoeppner of Saginaw, Leona Griffith of Harrison. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto, Walter and Martin. Andrew N. Peters, of Millington, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. He was 72 years of age. Mr. Peters was born February 9, 1929 in Flint, the son of Charles and Iva (Flynn) Peters and was raised in the Flint area. He served in the United States Navy for a tour of duty and then served in the United States Army for 21 years. During his service time he served during WWII and also served during the Vietnam Conflict. After his retirement from the service Mr. Peters worked in the postal service, and after the postal service he worked for the Wal-mart Corporation. Surviving is his family, two children, son and daughter-in-law, Andrew J. and Susan Peters of Mt. Clemens, daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Christopher Savory of Richmond, Virginia; one step-grandson; three sisters, Sylvia, Bertha (Bert) and Alzina; three brothers, Charles, George, Howard; a very special and dear friend, Cleo Hilts; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Anastasius (Tony) A. Podulka, of Millington, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. He was 65 years of age. Mr. Podulka was born May 2, 1935 in Flushing, the son of Joseph and Sophie Podulka. He had lived in Millington for several years. On October 26, 1957 he married Tillie Fron and together they celebrated 43 years of marriage. Mr. Podulka had been employed at the V-8 Chevrolet Engine Plant as an electrician, retiring in 1991 after 35 years. He was a member of St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar. Surviving is his family, wife, Tillie; five children and their spouses, Karen and Mark Curley of New Jersey, Mark Podulka of Millington, Julie and Marty Whalen of Utah, Susan and Rick Burdick of Ann Arbor, Sally and Jeff Jewell of Swartz Creek; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Aaron, Joseph, Jaclyn, Brendan, Anthony, Nicole, Ryan; two brothers; five sisters; and several nieces and nephews. Olive MacDonald Powell, 100, of Richmond, Va., died Monday, April 9,2001, in her home. She was born Oct. 20,1900, in Deckerville and lived here 52 years. She taught in area schools for 17 years. She is survived by her daughter, Madeline L. Keever; her daughter-in-law, Frances Powell; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Powell, on March 12,1973; her son, Kenneth J. Powell; and her grandson, Kenneth A. Powell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Robert E. Starkey, senior minister of First Congregational Church, will officiate. Robert J. Pratt, of Fairgrove died on Monday, July 16, 2001 at the Cartwright Center in Saginaw. He was 79 years of age. Born on December 29, 1931 in Detroit he was the son of Charles E. and Elsie (Ball) Pratt. He resided in the Fairgrove area for the past 30 years. On April 20, 1974 he married Cora Well. Together they celebrated 27 years of marriage. Mr. Pratt retired from DuLaur Products in Vassar in February of 1980. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Vassar Nazarene Church. Mr. Pratt is survived by his wife Cora and children, Diane Brooks, Darlene France, Viola Ostrander, Robert J. Pratt Jr., Steve Pratt, Sheila Pratt, Charles Pratt, as well as 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. Delos D. Prime, Fairgrove, age 81, died Monday, January 15, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Prime was born July 2, 1919 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Pearl (Harding) Prime. Delos and Dorothy O'Connor were united in marriage January 5, 1939. She preceded him in death March of 1990. He enjoyed collecting old clocks, old wrenches, cast iron seats, and gas engines. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Thumb Area Old Engine & Tractor Association. Delos was a life long farmer and a lifetime member of the Fairgrove United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are three sons and their spouses: Jim and wife Lynn Prime, Dick and wife Barb Prime, Bob and wife Susan Prime all of Fairgrove; seven grandchildren: Kevin Prime of Fairgrove, Kelly Prime of Southfield, Theresa and husband Tim Timko of Caro, Paula Prime of Reading, Pennsylvania, Polley Prime of Saginaw, Rebecca and husband Lee Crosby of Akron, Robbie Prime of Fairgrove; two great grandsons: Nicholas and Brenden Timko; one sister: Grace Ruthig of Saginaw. Ralph E. Randt, of Millington, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at the Briarwood Nursing Home. He was 89 years of age. Mr. Randt was born May 23, 1911 in Rapid Falls, Wisconsin, the son of John and Anna Randt. On November 12, 1932 he married Martina Scheelk. She preceded him in death in October of 1996. Mr. Randt was employed for 19 years at the A.C. Spark Plug Division of General Motors. He was also a member of U.A.W. Local #651. Surviving is his family, three daughters and sons-in-law, Pearl and Frank West of Whitmore, Ruby and Harvey Sweet of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ethel and Alvin Dial of Grand Rapids; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Sharon Randt of Millington; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister; a daughter, Ruth; a son, Denver; and a great-grandson. Jane A. Goslin Rhodes, 70, of Essexville and formerly of Unionville, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001. She was born in Unionville on Jan. 17, 1931, to Alfred and Lottie Fournier Goslin. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bay City, its choir, food pantry, Christian service, and the adoration chapel. Jane was an avid golfer. She was employed with General Motors Corp. Technical Center in Warren and retired after 28 years of service. She then moved to Essexville. She is survived by her brothers, Harold Goslin and his wife, Marge, Keith Goslin and his wife, Marie, all of Gagetown, and Pat Goslin and his wife, Mary Ann, of Unionville; his sisters, Ila Seurynk and her husband, Leo, of Gagetown, Helen Wood of Essexville, Marianne Beebee and her husband, Allen, of Roscommon and Constance Goslin of Sterling Heights; Jane's very special friend, Herbert Stark of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Dorothy Goebel, Felice Vermeersch, Aloysius Goslin, Evelyn Greybiehl and Clarence Goslin. Evelyn Lucille (Robinson) Rohlfs, Akron, Died peacefully Monday, June 18, 2001 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. She was born June 20, 1912 in Caro to William and Stella Rovinson and came to Fairgrove as a teenager where her family operated the garage. Evelyn married Arthur Glyde Rohlfs in 1923. They worked together throughout their lives on the Rohlfs family farm in Akron. Evelyn served her neighbors and church with summer Bible school, candle lighting, Bible study, Sunday school, Ladies Aid and missionary work. She supervised the church dinners for many years. She was enthusiastically active in county extension and the foreign exchange program. She was a high spirited hostess with a gerous table, welcoming family and friends from around the world. She will be remembered for her humor and graciousness in rising to any occasion. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Eugeana Rohlfs of Akron; five grandchildren, Linda Letson and Alan Spomer of Sonoma, Calif., Jim and Fatima Priestley of West Point, Calif., Diane and John Ballard of Akron, Scott Priestley of Fairgrove, Chris and Peggy Priestley of Akron; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, her sister Retta of Gilford; a brother, Arlie and wife, Jeanne of Richland Center, Wisc.; many nieces and nephews and loving relatives and friends. Mildred B. Rushford, Vassar, age 80, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper in Saginaw. Mildred was born November 22, 1920 in Franklin County, Alabama, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. And Mattie J. (West) Doss. She and William Rushford were united in marriage January 29, 1944 in Texas. She was a member of the Tuscola Community Church. Surviving are, husband, William of Vassar; two daughters, Brenda Stilson of Vassar and Donna and husband LeRoy Engelhart of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Stacy Stilson and Kelly Stilson of Vassar, and Rachel Engelhart of Bad Axe; two brothers, Ray Doss of Louisana and Lester and wife Lonnie Doss of Illinois; four sisters, Margie Allen of Illinois, Jane and husband Carl Hudgens, Mary Jane and husband Odell Ashmore, Barb McCoy all of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Don and wife Barbara Miller, sister-in-law, Sally and husband Chuck Schnurer, and Shirley and husband Wayne Stanley all of Michigan; and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar with Pastor Greg Shepherd, Pastor Paul Conley and Pastor Cyril Haines officiating. Milford J. Ryan Sr. St. Helen, formerly Akron Died Friday, April 13, 2001 in his St. Helen home after a battle with lung cancer. He was 66. Mr. Ryan was born January 23, 1935, in West Branch, the son of Fred and Elizabeth (Osborne) Ryan. He married the former Shirley Beach July 3, 1954 in Akron. They made their home there for 44 years. He was a linesman at Saginaw Steering Gear for 34 years. Formerly of Akron, he had lived in St. Helen since 1998. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughters, Connie Bowen of Port Richie, Fla., Cindy (Steve) Irvine of Cass City, and Peggy Ryan of West Branch; sons, Don (Audrey) Ryan of Tustin, Micheal of Morristown and Milford II of Morristown; brother, William of Wichita, Texas; sister, Alverna Hessler of Akron; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Robbi L. Salgat Caro, formerly of Fairgrove Passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Cartwright Center in Saginaw. He was 50. He was born on December 1, 1950, in Saginaw, and lived in the Caro and Fairgrove areas all of his life. He was a graduate of Akron-Fairgrove High School. Robbi was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam, and was a member of the Fairgrove V.F.W. Post #7486. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of employment. He is survived by one daughter, Danielle Salgat of Novi; his father, Leland "Bud" Salgat of Caro; two sisters, three brothers and spouses, Sondra and Thomas Hadaway of Fairgrove, Yvette and Keith Kasserman of Pigeon, Jan and Sandy Salgat of Caro, Todd Salgat of Caro, Kurt Salgat and friend, Cindy Gaul of Bay City; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen, in 1996; and a brother, Howard in 1984. Funeral was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Wednesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand of First Baptist Church of Caro officiating. Elsie E. Schlicht, of Vassar, died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at her granddaughters residence in Vassar. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Schlicht was born December 15, 1908 in Fremont Township, the daughter of William and Margaret (Craig) Abernathy. On March 26, 1936 she married Mr. John Schlicht. He preceded her in death in 1962. Mrs. Schlicht was a life long member of the Vassar United Methodist Church where she was once active in the church's ladies groups. She was also once very active in the American Legion Post #177 Ladies Auxiliary of which several times she held offices such as treasurer and Sergeant at Arms. When her husband John was living they loved attending the North Vassar area Farm Club of which she held various offices. Mrs. Schlicht retired from the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home as a nurses aide. Surviving are her children, Joan (Sterling) Wright of Homosassa, Florida, Bonnie Hammer of Bloomfield Hills, John L. Schlicht of Vassar, Ruth Ann Hausbeck of Saginaw, Delma Schultz of Vassar; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Norman Guy Sterling; two step-daughters, Miriam Rumford, Florence Jean Stoick; three sisters; one brother; and several sons-in-law. Funeral service were held Thursday, May 10, 2001 at the Vassar United Methodist Church with interment following at the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Pastor Rick Sheppard officiated. Rosanna was born August 8, 1911 in Arbella Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August and Sarah (Beard) Summerfield. She married Frank W. Ill August 25, 1934. He preceded her in death. She then married William Servis August 22, 1965. He also preceded her in death, also daughter Marilyn Cooper. Surviving are, son, Cleo Ill of Millington; daughter, Rosemary and husband James Childs of Bridgeport; stepdaughter, Sharon and husband Gordon Woodhull of Vassar; Son-of-Law Wayne Cooper; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Fischhabler and Elsie Sanders both of Millington. Rodney R. Shannon, Died Saturday morning May 26, 2001 at Covenant Cooper. Age 97, he was born March 17, 1904 in Fairgrove, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas and Eleanor (Crowley) Shannon. He married Elsie E. LeValley March 24, 1929 . Rodney was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro and had been employed for Buick Motor Co. and Defoe Shipbuilding, but most of his life was devoted to working the family farm. In 1960 he built the first all electric house in Tuscola Co. His hobbies included hunting and beekeeping. For the past 29 years he and Elsie spent the winter months in Fla. He is survived by wife: Elsie of Fairgrove; 6 children: Donna and husband Wendell Pafford of Essexville; Douglas Shannon of Fairgrove; Mert Periard of Fla.; Mary Ann Shannon of Bay City; Marie and husband Keith J. Goslin of Gagetown; Sherry and husband Paul T. Vaughn of Mayville; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaugther Marsha, daughter-in-law Delores Shannon and also 2 sisters. Helen E. Siver, of Vassar died Saturday, April 28, 2001. She was 87 years of age. Mrs. Siver was born in Rich Township, Lapeer County May 19, 1913, the oldest daughter of Beryl and Katherine (Dodds) Monroe. She married Leon L. Siver May 30, 1934 in Grand Rapids. They resided in Flint 13 years, eventually moving to Vassar in 1947, where Mrs. Siver resided the next 54 years. Mrs. Siver was a school teacher at the Chadwick School outside of Mayville and a bookkeeper for 20 years at their Western Auto Store in Vassar. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for 53 years, working in the library and teaching and playing for the childrens' church and Sunday School. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Rapson of Vassar, Jeanene and Roy Sabo, Waterford, Janet and Jim Ward, Elwell; one sister, Mary and Harold Rappuhn of St. Johns; four grandchildren, Larry and Sheryl Rapson, Cathy and Jim Cain, Dewey and Suzanne Rapson, Jodi Ward; five great-grandchildren, Chloe Rapson, Chase and Cailyn Cain, Dewey and Samantha Rapson; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Vassar with burial following at Fremont Township Cemetery. Betty L. Slater, of Vassar, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was 73 years of age. Mrs. Slater was born September 21, 1927 in Vassar, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton and Gladys (Wagner) Grainger. She and Zenis Slater were united in marriage May 8, 1948. He preceded her in death January 13, 1996. Surviving are three children, Charles and wife Debra Slater of Vassar, Kristine and husband Randy Vincent of Vassar, Douglas Slater of Bradenton, Florida; five grandchildren, Danielle Slater, Corey Slater, Jeff McCrandall, Jason Vincent, Kylie Vincent; sister, Bonnie and husband Gene Seney of Vassar; and special friend, Delores Oprea. John James Sonderhouse, Died Friday July 27, 2001 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City. Age 74, he was born March 26, 1927 in Vassar, the son of William and Ethel (Seney) Sonderhouse. He and Pauline Posh were married for 18 years. He then married Anna Marker in March of 1972. John served with the U.S Navy from 1945-1946 and retired from Eaton Foundry after 30 years or service. He was a member of the Vassar American Legion and the Caro Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, snowmobiles, and gambling at St. Ignace. He and Irene Weber Petty were united in marraige on November 13th, 1971. He retired from AC Spark Plug in Flint after 32 years of service. Albert was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar where he served as an usher, the Richville American Legion Post #0400, V.F.W. # 3087 - Flint, the Knights of Columbus, Military Order of the #6 Cooties, the Vassar Eagles, U.A.W. Local Retirees # 651. Albert also served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Morris Sowden, Of the Millington and Vassar area, age 69, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw. Morey was born July 7, 1931 in Cass City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Myrtle B. (Hill) Sowden. He and Elizabeth Thorpe were united in marriage April 9, 1955 at Frasier Presbyterian Church in Cass City. Morris served with the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1954, during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in the Philippines. Morris was employed at G.M. Truck and Coach in Pontiac as a parts locator from 1965 until 1978. He and his wife Betsy owned and operated Skateway Arena in Vassar from December 1977 until March 1987. Morris was a member of the Roller Skating Rink Operations Association. He was a member of the Vassar First Presbyterian Church where he served as Church custodian since 1985. And Mathilda (Miller ) Stange. He and Dorothy M. Bender were united in marriage May 3, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Norman worked on the family farm all of his life. Before retiring he had been employed at Newton Plumbing and Heating for about 20 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Beatrice C. Stefko, Fairgrove, age 97, died Tuesday January 23, 2001 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Beatrice was born September 27, 1903 near Deford in Tuscola County to Mahlon and Irene (Sweet) Cooper. She graduated from Cass City High School and attended County Normal. She also attended Ypsilanti Normal College in 1922. She taught elementary school in Deford for two years. Beatrice married Vern Wright at Cass City in 1923. Besides teaching she also was a bookkeeper for Sun Oil Co., an inspector for Dow Metal Co. In Bay City, Postmaster at Fairgrove for 21 years. Beatrice was a member of the Presbyterian Church and also was Worthy Matron of the Fairgrove O.E.S. Chapter. She was preceded in death by husband Vern Wright in 1963, her second husband John Stefko in 1972 and a sister, Doris Hunter in 1995. She is survived by two sons: Burton and wife Toni Wright of Alpena; Calvin and wife Barbara Wright of Sebring, Florida; Six grandchildren, Susan Chambers of Caro; Ginger and Brad Barnes of Fairgrove; Tim and Paula Wright of Boyne City; Bill Wright of Chicago, Ill; Jeff and Julie Wright of Portland, Or.; Tracie and Terr LaMontagne of Waukegan, Ill.; Nine great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. James R. Streeter, Fairgrove, Died Friday, April 13, 2001 at his residence. He was 54. He was born August 28, 1946 in Bay City, the son of Edison and Evelyn (Hellebuyck) Streeter. He married Joan C. Smith June 12, 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was member of the Akron-Fairgrove VFW Post #7486. Prior to his retirement he had been employed at the Grede Foundry in Vassar for 34 years. Jim had also been an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Fairgrove, two sons and one daughter, James T. and Joy Streeter, Jennifer and Chris Holland all of Atlanta, GA, John Streeter of Merrill; mother, Evelyn Streeter of Essexville; one brother and two sisters, Michael Streeter of Fairgrove, Kathy and Jim Nagy of Fairgrove, Jayne and Tod Houthoofd of Standish. His father, Edson Streeter preceded him in death. Ella Faye Thorp, 93, of Caro died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 in Caro Community Hospital, Caro. She was born Sept. 21, 1908 in Wells Township to John F. and Wilhemina (Froede) Curry. She married Paul Thorp Aug. 21, 1930 in Saginaw. He died Jan. 8, 1983. Ella lived within miles from where she was born. She worked for Ripleys in Cass City, WN Clark in Caro, as a sales lady for Dibbles, Thumb Laundry in Caro, and as a housekeeper at Active Homes. Ella attended Kingston Wesleyan Church. She was a former member of the Tuscola County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading,crocheting, and knitting. Her grandchildren were very important to her. Ella is survived by her children, LaVerne P. "Jim" Thorp and his wife, Barbara Jean, of Davison, Richard "Dutch" Thorp and his wife, Nila, of Caro, Gerald Thorp and his wife, Sharon, of Caro; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Thorp of Caro; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Laura Thorp and Hettie Curry; brother-in-law, Cecil Osgerby; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas W., in 1995; brothers John W. "Bill" Curry, Carl Curry, George Curry; sister, Lela Parsons; and sisters-in-law, Susie Francis, Lillie Curry, and Nelda Osgerby. Dorothea M. Torrey, of Millington, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Torrey was born December 11, 1908 in Northeast, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Walter and Eleanore (Burger) Hahn. She moved to Millington in 1932 from Frankenmuth. In 1932 she married William Mossner. He passed away in 1947. In 1949 she married Robert Torrey. He preceded her in death in 1983. Mrs. Torrey was employed as a clerk at the Millington Bakery for her uncle from 1947-1972. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington and a member of the Dorcas Society. Surviving are two children and their spouses, Jeannette and Leo Allard of Millington, Bob and Jan Torrey of Midland; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elinor Buuck of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; one brother, Melvin Hahn of Holland, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald in 1957, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Friday, February 2, 2001 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington with burial following at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Tim Bickel officiated. Louisa J. Tremonti, Formerly of Vassar, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at her residence. She was born May 12, 1924 in Detroit, the daughter of Titus and Theresa Tremonti. She had resided in Vassar before returning to Detroit where she had been employed for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company prior to her retirement. She is survived by 2 brothers, Chet Tremontia of Kewadin, Michigan and Reno Tremonti of Warren, Michigan; 2 nieces: Teresa Myczkowiak of Saginaw and Amy McConkie of Midland. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Curio. Private graveside service took place on Friday, July 6, 2001 at Riverside Cemetery.
Dean J. Tuckey, 77, of Cass City died peacefully in his home Wednesday, July 4, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Cass City Missionary Church with the Rev. David Edwards officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Christine R. Tyler, 88, of Caro died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born December 17, 1912 in Fife Lake, MI to William A. and Glaidies (Davis) Prindle. She married Elmer L. Tyler December 12, 1946 in New Mexico. He died October 11, 1963. Christine worked as a babysitter in homes in Royal Oak when the mother was hospitalized. She retired from Upjohn Pharmaceuticals where she worked in Home Nursing. She was a member of the Kingston Wesleyan Church and sang in its choir. She enjoyed traveling especially in California and she loved gardening. She loved her animals, chickens, geese, ducks and turkey. She hadn't bought an egg since 1973. She is survived by her sister, Marcella Guild of Riverdale; brother Harry (Katherine) Prindle of Madison Heights, nephew, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret, sister, Gertrude, 2 nephews and 2 aunts. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6 in Kingston Wesleyan Church with Rev. Ken Sandefur officiating. Interment was held in Roseland Park Cemetery, Royal Oak. Arrangements were made by Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston, MI.
Gerald B. Tyrrell, of the Vassar and Millington areas, died Saturday, May 12, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 63 years of age. Mr. Tyrrell was born January 2, 1938, the son of Max and Gladys Tyrrell. On December 31, 1976 he married Deborah Strevel. In 1994 he retired from Buick City after 30 years of service with General Motors. He was also a member of UAW Local 599. Surviving is his family, wife, Deborah (Deb) of Vassar; children, Rick and Tess Tyrrell, stationed with USMC in Okinawa, Japan, Laurie Ann and Chris Thomas of Holly, step-son, Lonie James Hill of Fort Hood, Kileen, Texas; three grandchildren, Levinia and Shereece Tyrrell, John David Thomas; three brothers, Rick Tyrrell of Saginaw, Bruce Tyrrell of Houghton Lake, John Tyrrell of Ishpeming; one sister, Linda Roberts of Houghton Lake; his mother, Mrs. Gladys Tyrrell also of Houghton Lake; as well as nieces, nephews and his extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Maxwell B. Tyrrell and a sister, Michelle (Mickey).
Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, 2001 at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar with interment following at the Richfield Union Cemetery in Richfield. Pastor Richard Flanders officiated. Antoinette C. Weinzierl, of Millington, formerly of Houghton Lake area, died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Weinzierl was born on May 23, 1909 in Ville Marie Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Peter and Georgianna (DuCharme) Preville. She lived most of her adult life in Millington until moving to Houghton Lake in 1970. On February 15, 1927 she married Richard Weinzierl. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1992. Mrs. Weinzierl was a member of St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church of Vassar, formerly a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church of Millington and of the Lapeer American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #16. Surviving is her family, three sons and three daughters and their spouses, Robert (Bob) and Lois Weinzierl, Dale and Sue Weinzierl, all of Millington, Leo and Beverly Weinzierl of Mayville, Betty Kreis of Lapeer, Dorothy Alexander of Flint, Delores and Marvin Cranick of Fairgrove; one sister, Bernadette Hamper of Flint; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and a granddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, October 11, 2001 at the Hanlin Funeral Home of Millington with burial following at the Watertown Township Cemetery in Fostoria. Life member of the Genesee Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Genesee United Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a clerk with the Genesee Post Office for 20 years. She is survived by: 2 Sons: Hubert White; Larry and Janis White of Warsaw, Ind.; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; Several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Glenn, daughter June Irvine, sister Lois Helgeson and half sisters Sarah Kruske and Nellie.

Etsel Daniel Wilcox, 79, of Deford died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at his home after a long illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Kingston to William D. and Mary (Stickel) Wilcox. He married the love of his life, Margaret F. Shaver, and together they resided in the Kingston and Deford area for over 55 years. Etsel worked for the Kingston Elevator and did custom thrashing. He was a dairy farmer while working at Pontiac Motors. He worked for the Tuscola County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after 30 years. Etsel loved hunting, fishing and camping with family. He was a very active member of Deford Community Church, serving in many positions over the years, including trustee, church board member and a greeter up until his illness prohibited it. Etsel is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter Etselene Dorland and her husband, Jim, of Deford; granddaughter Shelly Chambers and her husband, Bill, of Deford; step-grandchildren Ryan Dorland and Kyle Dorland; great-grandchildren Shane Bloomfield and Shania Chambers; step-great-grandchildren Nick Chambers, Heather Chambers and Tammy Chambers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Darold TerBush; and brothers Lester, Burwyn and Basil Wilcox. Lila H. Wild, age 65, of Millington, formerly of Flint, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will take place 10:00 am Monday, July 2, 2001 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present at the Miles Martin Funeral Home to receive friends on Saturday from 6-9:00 pm and on Sunday from 10-3:00 pm and from 5-9:00 pm. On Sunday evening, family, friends and parish will gather for a Rosary at the funeral home at 7:00pm. On Monday morning, Lila will be taken to church to lie in state from 9am until the time of funeral mass at 10:00 am. (Webster) Domke. She and Milton Wild were united in marriage on June 22, 1956 in Cheboygan, MI. Lila was a resident of Flint for 17 years before moving to Millington in 1973 where she has resided since. She loved to make crafts and was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Surviving are her husband: Milton of Millington; 5 children: Robin and Randy Hardenburg of Swartz Creek; Daniel Wild of Flint; Vicki and Brian O'Neil of Swartz Creek; Shari and John Pichey of Flint Twp.; Nina and Junior Belmarez of Muskegon, MI.; 8 grandchildren: Mary Sue, Jared, Christopher, Joshua, April, Devin, Erica, Krista, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: E.W. Randy E. Wilson, age 33, Electronics Technician died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at his home in Bay City, Michigan. He had lived in Bay City, Michigan for 3 years and was previously from Caro and Marlette. He was born April 11, 1968 in Davenport, Iowa son to R. Grant Wilson and Charme L. Froehner. He graduated from Marlette High School in 1986, received his associated degree in Electronic from Baker community College in 1992. He is survived by his father R. Grant (Doris) Wilson of Marlette, mother Charme Froehner of Caro, MI, sisters Ginger (Brian) Stamp of Marlette, Star ( David) Sutphin of Rochester Hills, grandmother Mildred Froehner of Caro, and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 16, 2001 at 11:00 am in the Marlette First United Methodist in Marlette with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating. Interment was held in the Marlette Cemetery. Tyler Wilson, Our hearts are broken, our arms are empty. Our son, Tyler Michael Wilson, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. Jack E. Winchester, 53, of Elkton died Monday evening, July 23, 2001, at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. He was born Oct. 3, 1947, to the late John and Raymonde (Girard) Winchester in Caro. Jack grew up in the Gagetown area and graduated from Owen-Gage High School in 1966. He had been a truck driver most of his life, but was forced to retire for health reasons. He was a member of the Victory in Christ Community Church, past member of the Elkton Jaycees, and coached little league for a number of years. Surviving are his son, Charles Winchester and his wife, Stacey, of Cass City; his daughter, Christina Schultz and her husband, Jason, of Gagetown; two grandchildren, Sydney Winchester and Benjamin Schultz; two brothers, Maurice Winchester and his wife, Judy, of Gagetown and Daniel Winchester and his wife, Patricia, of Caro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Victory in Christ Community Church in Bad Axe. The Rev. Stewart Justin, pastor will officiate with burial in Gagetown. Alma M. Wingert, 91, of Kingston died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City after a short illness. Patricia A. Wutzke, 64, of Cass City died peacefully Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in her home after a long illness. She was born on Jan. 27, 1937, in Detroit to Edmond and Theresa (Czenkus) Rafalski. She married Bernard L. Wutzke on July 17, 1959, in Gethsemene Lutheran Church in Warren. Pat worked in the Housekeeping Department at Hills &

Virginia Grace (Hessler) Yonke, 71, of Linwood and formerly of Unionville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at her residence following a lingering illness. She was born on May 3, 1929,
in Detroit to the late Charles and Anna (Detlohf) Sally. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Frederick Hessler and Edwin Yonke. She is survived by her children, Bruce James Hessler and his wife, Pam, of Clinton Township, Bryan Frederick Hessler and his wife, Karen, of Warren, Burt Charles Hessler of Alabama, Robert Gerald Hessler and his wife, Cheryl, of Clarkston, Victoria Trischler and her husband, Joseph, of Linwood and Brett Paul Hessler and his wife, Siglinda, of Germany; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Sally and his wife, Lena, of California and Charles Sally and his wife, Delores, of Utica; sister Carolyn Bueche and her husband, Clarence, of Rochester. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Rivertown Funeral Chapel in Kawkawlin with Pastor Art Zahar and Fr. Gary Bueche presiding with cremation at Sunset Valley Crematory. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m.
