Alfred L. Anderson, of the Vassar and Millington areas, died Thursday, October 5, 2000 at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Anderson was born February 21, 1913 in Sandwich, Illinois and was the son of Nathaniel and Ethel (West) Anderson. He grew up in Whittemore, Michigan and graduated from East Tawas High School in 1934. Mr. Anderson served in the United States Army during World War II. On December 27, 1941 he married Margaret Bradd and together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. She survives him. Mr. Anderson retired in 1972 after 30 years with Malleable Iron in Saginaw. He was a member of Local UAW #455, Masonic Lodge of Otisville #401, Eastern Star #282 and a 32nd degree Mason with Bay City Consistory. He was also a member of Arbela United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; four children, Jan and Richard Myers of Vassar, Barbara Anderson of Gainesville, Florida, Ken and Colleen Anderson, Don and Tanya Anderson, all of Saginaw; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Roberts of Whittemore, Genevieve Jacobs of Florida; one brother, Lloyd Anderson of Birch Run; several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan and one brother, Vernon. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8, 2000 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with Pastor Herb Wheelock officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Arbela United Methodist Church. Ina Irma Anker, 98, of Cass City died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. She was born Nov. 11, 1901, in Pigeon to Jeremiah and Ellen (Krampien) Shantz. She married John A. Anker on Nov. 17, 1925, in Owendale. He died Aug. 19, 1962. Irma was a member of the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene and Elmwood Women's Extension Club for more than 20 years. She enjoyed raising her family, gardening and flowers. Irma is survived by her children, Norris Anker of Orion, Marjorie Braddock of Chatsworth, Calif., Stanley Anker and his wife, Joan, of Saginaw, Howard Anker and his wife, Patricia, of Saginaw, Geraldine Brown of Vassar, Donald Anker of Cass City, Audrey Short and her husband, Ralph, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Lyle Anker and his wife, Judy, of Cass City, Mary Thayer and her husband, David, of Vassar, and Cathy Anker of Vassar; 37 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lenora Shantz of Gagetown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandsons, William Anker, Robert Anker and Nelson Anker; sister, Eliminda Proudfoot; brother Clarence Shantz; and son-in-law, Vern Brown. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Donald K. Ault of Gagetown Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Gagetown Church of the Nazarene or the American Cancer Society.

Frank S. Aymer, Jr. Akron Died Thursday, August 24, 2000 at his home. He was 61. Born in Bay City, March 24, 1939, the son of Stuart and Amelia (Jablonski) Aymer, he moved to Fairgrove at an early age. He and Irene J. Dudek were united in marriage July 2, 1976 and moved to Akron. He was a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Math and Russian. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caro, a member and supporter of the Aviary Society, a supporter and board member of the Bay Area Council of Boy Scouts. He loved woodworking, fishing, his pet birds, computers and the internet, also basketball, especially girls basketball, and the Pistons. He was a private pilot and once owned his own airplane. He retired March 1999 from Dow Corning as supervisor of telecommunications with 23 years of service and formerly worked with Consumers Power as computer analyst with 10 years service. Surviving are his wife, Irene; four stepchildren, Edward Westerby and Roxanne of Akron, Michele and husband, Larry Latimer of Akron, Daniel and wife, Patricia Westerby of Kingston, Steven and wife Susan Westerby of West Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Katie Latimer and fiance Matthew Long, Danielle Latimer, Allison Latimer, Daniel Powell, Cristina Westerby, and Richard Westerby; one brother and one sister, Mary Jo and husband, Willis Wager of Fairgrove, Edwin and wife, Caron Aymer of Fairgrove; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service was held 10 a.m. Saturday from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caro. Rev. Fr. Kenneth E. Yaroch officiated. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Claude E. Bauman, Died Wed. January 12, 2000 at the Frankenmuth Care Center. Age 85. Funeral service will take place 3:00 pm Saturday January 15, 2000 at the Gilford United Methodist Church with burial in Gilford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove 12 Noon-9:00 pm on Friday, 9:00 am - 12 Noon on Saturday and then at the church from 2:00 pm until time of service.


Elsie M. Baur, 99, of Unionville died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Bad Axe following a brief illness. She was born March 7, 1901, in Akron Township, Tuscola County, daughter of the late John and Minnie (Becker) Miller. She was united in marriage to Norman Baur on July 19, 1928, in Unionville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1968. Elsie was a member of New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Surviving are two daughters; Ruth Elston and her husband, Gerald, of Unionville and Arlene Sbresny and her husband, Ernest, Jr., of Sebewaing; one son, Elson Baur of Unionville; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald; one great-granddaughter, Felicia Sbresny; two brothers, Ferdinand and Laurence Miller; and one sister, Edith Eckfeld. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at New Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. William Mayhew will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to New Salem Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.


Hulda R. Beghtel, 82, of North Branch, a long time Lapeer area resident and formerly of Mayville, died Saturday Jan. 15, 2000. She was born May 12, 1917, in Mayville, to Ernest and Beatrice (Sarles) Blackmer. She was a seamstress for Ford Motor Co. She was a member of the Faith Community Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her children, Donald (Barbara) Heusted of Lapeer, Fred (Michelle) Heusted of Lapeer, Phil (Jan) Heusted of Fredericksburg, Va., Linda (Gary) Charlick of Howell and Donna Dunlap of Lapeer; step-children, William (Donna) Freeland of North Branch, James (Rosemary) Freeland of Fostoria, Eleanor Bailey of Sebring, Fla., Alan of Utah, and Merle (Lorna) of California; step-daughter-in-law, Deana Freeland of Lapeer; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, June Strasburg of Fostoria; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Heusted; second husband, Lee Freeland; third husband, Carl Bechtel; her parents and step-mother, Eliza Jane; step-son, Arnold Freeland; brothers, Ted Blackmer, Jim Blackmer, Ed Blackmer, Lee Blackmer and Clarence Blackmer; sister, Mary Luskey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Community Church in North Branch. Funeral services were held Tuesday Jan. 18, 2000 at the Faith Community Church in North Branch. Pastor Brent Jerome and the Rev. Arnold Bracy officiated. Burial was in Watertown Cemetery, Mayville. Arrangements by the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.


Josephine L. Best, age 85 died Sunday March 12, 2000 in the Pine River Health Care Facility of St. Louis. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday from Martin Funeral Home - Vassar. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-9 Monday and 12noon - 9pm Tuesday. Born January 28, 1915 in Vassar the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis H. and Bessie (Dumaw) Fox. She and Elmer H. Best were united in marriage and he preceded her in death March 1988. She was a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church Surviving are: Son: Bruce and wife Cheryl Best of St. Louis. Daughter-in-law: Sharon Best of Saginaw; Son-in-law: Thomas Anthony of Millington; Grandchildren: Andrew Best; Jerry and wife Lora Balcer; Suzanne and husband Ron Inman; Bruce and wife Carrie Best; Deborah Anthony; Peggy Anthony; Thomas and wife Cindy Anthony; Carol Anthony; Myra VoorHess; Alice and husband Ed Frazier; Teresa Pack; Richard and wife Shelly Best; Michael and wife Lee Best; Brant and wife Hiedi Best; Rui and wife Regina Gonzales; Debra Best; Michael and wife Tammy Best. Leland (Lee) C. Beyette, 80, of Cass City passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2000, at Tendercare Cass City following a lingering illness. Lee was born May 2, 1920, in Caro, the son of the late Timothy and Muriel (Kline) Beyette. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an MP during World War II. After the war, he worked in the auto plants and later for Duggon Brothers Construction Co. in Jackson. He came back to Tuscola County and Cass City in the early 1970s and worked at the Pillsbury Co-op Elevator in Cass City for some years as well as on his Voss Road farm. He married Carol A. Ferguson on Dec. 31, 1982, in Caro. She survives him. Surviving besides his wife are five daughters, five sons and their spouses: Dolores Kastraba and her husband, Alex, of Caro, Evelyn Lalko and her husband, Paul, of Kingston, Gina Flikke and her husband, Jeff, and Charlene Troy and her husband, Mark, all living in Kansas, Collette Flowers and her husband, Mike, of Deford, Timothy Beyette of Michigan, Roger Beyette of Flint, Jesse Beyette of Birch Run, Leland Beyette, Jr., and Jamie Beyette, both living in Deford; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Gertrude B. Hack, who died on Jan. 15, 1988. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Indianfields Township Cemetery Chapel in Caro with the Rev. Ronald C. Wigand of the Caro First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the cemetery chapel. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children. Ransford Funeral Home of Caro handled arrangements.


Nita E. Black, age 95, of Akron, died August 26, 2000 at Heartland Health Care Center - Hampton. Born in Fairgrove, June 7, 1905 the daughter of Elmer and Jen (Burlingame) Inglis. She married Fred H. Black February 25, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a life long member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, 4-H club leader for over 40 years, member of State 4-H council, member and past officer of Presbyterian Women's Assoc. Surviving are 2 daughters and 1 son: Fred I. Black and wife Mary Lou of Port Huron; Janis Hubbard of Pleasant Ridge, MI.; F. Sue Baldwin of Hillsboro, NC.; 10 grand children; 18 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by husband, grandson David Seddon, brothers J.C. and Lyle, and sister Ione. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday from Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, Rev. Richard Lawther and Rev. Merry Rader officiating. Cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel - Fairgrove on Monday from 3-9:00 pm and at the church Tuesday from 10:00am until time of service. Memorials can be made to the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church , Sunset Gap Community Center or Navaho National Health.


Marjorie J. Bliss, 77, of Cass City died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. Marjorie is survived by her husband, William of Cass City; children, William J. Bliss Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Portage, Robert Bliss and his wife, Beryl, of Cass City, Barbara Generous and her husband, Gerald, of Caro, David Bliss and Penny Weber of West Branch, Paul Bliss and his wife, LaDonna, of Cass City and Charles Bliss and his wife, Tamara, of Cass City; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, James Tyo and his wife, Chris, of Prudenville; sister-in-law Jeanne Tyo of Ellenton, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Bala officiating. Pallbearers for Mrs. Bliss are Gregory, Kevin, Kurt, Jeffrey, Todd, Nicholas, Robert Jr., Steven and Zachary Bliss. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery.


Margaret M. Block, 91, of Caro, formerly of Owendale, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro. She was born on June 10, 1909, in Munson, Pa., daughter of the late Gustave and Mary (Turrick) Niedrich. She married Lawrence Block in Royal Oak on July 15, 1929. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1983. Mrs. Block was a member of the Kilmanagh United Methodist Church all her married life until the last years, when she joined the Assembly of God Church in Caro. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, both indoors and outdoors, and spent many hours making afghans for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others, as long as her fingers would let her. In the winter, her hobby was ice fishing. Surviving are her three daughters, Ethel Craig and her husband, Glenn, and Esther Bedford and her husband, Robert, all of Elkton, and Alice Gilbert and her husband, Bruce, of Caseville; a son, Alfred Block of Haines City, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Steven Craig, Nancy Wolfe, Julie Flores, Darlene Hipsher, Diane Bedford, Connie DeSimpelare, Donna Murawski, Gary Gilbert, Joyce Gilbert, Diane Clark, Dale Tibbits, David Block and Dan Block; 15 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Carol (Trost) Block of Reese; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Niedrich of Unionville and Gladys Niedrich of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with the Rev. Arnold Burger, pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Caro and nephew the Rev. William Stites officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sebewaing. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.


Anthony "Tony" L. Bloomfield, 31, of Gagetown died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born June 24, 1969, in Caro to Larry and Bonnie (Kaatz) Bloomfield. Tony previously worked for Acme in Sebewaing and currently worked for his mother delivering the Saginaw News throughout the west side of the Thumb. He truly enjoyed fishing. Anthony is survived by his daughter, Casandra Hope Bloomfield of Cass City; a second child due in eight months; his parents, Larry and Bonnie Bloomfield of Cass City; his fiancee, Michelle Dutcher of Gagetown; brothers Randall Putnam of Manistique and Larry Bloomfield, Jr., of Marlette; nieces Rebecca and Rachel Putnam of Cass City; a nephew, Shane Bloomfield of Deford; and his grandmother, Delphia Bloomfield of Sebewaing. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lynn Putnam, who died July 29, 1992; and his grandparents, John B. Bloomfield and Anna and Hugo Kaatz. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with the Rev. Eric Holmgren of Cass City First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Almer Township Cemetery, Caro. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.


Loretta V. Boileau, 74, of Kingston died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Covenant Healthcare-Harrison in Saginaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Kingston Wesleyan Church, Kingston, with Dr. Rudyard Fay officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston. Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.


Donald W. Botimer, Vassar, age 74, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at his home. Mr. Botimer was born August 25, 1926 in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Dorothy (Worden) Botimer. He and Marjorie Brasseur were united in marriage May 26, 1951 in Indian River. Donald served with the U. S. Army Air Force in 1945. He retired in 1985 from Universal Engineering in Frankenmuth as a tool assembler. Donald enjoyed sailing, hiking, fishing and panning for gold. He liked to invent and sold one of his patents. He loved his family, nature and life. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; three daughters: Deborah and husband Larry Schluckebier of Frankenmuth; Donna and husband John Perkins of Frankenmuth; Denise and husband Truman Barbier of East Tawas; 5 grandchildren: Jeffrey and wife Shaina Schluckebier; Janelle Schluckebier; Justin Botimer; Marjorie Barbier; Nicole Barbier; 2 great grandchildren: Ryan and Jeremy Schluckebier; 2 sisters: Kathleen and husband Mark Blossom; Marylou and husband Gary Young; Stepmother: Ruth Botimer; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother Dorothy Bradley Botimer. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 1, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church in Vassar with Rev. John Becker officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel in Vassar 2-8 pm Thursday. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to Vassar Presbyterian Church, Lutheran Health Care Hospice or Wickson Memorial Library in Frankenmuth. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at church.


Mary L. Buchanan, 71, of Caro, formerly of the Bad Axe area, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Bay Medical Center in Bay City following an extended illness. She was born on April 10, 1929, in Ellington, daughter of the late Charles and Jeannette (Ferguson) Doerr. She married Donald C. Buchanan on June 5, 1947, in the Bad Axe Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Cass City High School Class of 1947. She was a nurse's aide at Huron Memorial Hospital and the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She also worked in retail at Dibble's Dime Store in Caro, and received numerous awards as an Avon sales associate. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the hostess for the Lincoln Road Dancers of Bay City. She is survived by her husband, Donald C. Buchanan of Caro; a daughter, Diana J. Buchanan of East Lansing; two sons, Donald M. Buchanan and his wife, Lou, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Daniel C. Buchanan and his wife, Barbarann, of Bad Axe; seven grandchildren, Denise Kinney and her husband, Trevor, of Bad Axe, Brian Buchanan of Bad Axe, Melissa, Jennifer and Amanda Buchanan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michelle and Benjamin Leudeman of East Lansing; a great-grandson, Colin Kinney of Bad Axe; a brother, Henry Doerr and his wife, Mary, of Mayville; and two sisters, Evelyn Tuckey of Cass City and Dorothy Shue and her husband, William, of Burton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Albert and Dorus Doerr; and a sister, Marjorie Jones. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Duane Miller, pastor of the Caro United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the McTaggart Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.


Elizabeth Margaret Buck, Saginaw, age 95, died Tuesday August 22, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center- Cooper in Saginaw. Elizabeth was born April 4, 1905 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gasper & Elizabeth (Miklovich) Hrehor. She lived on a farm with her family and went to school to be a nurse. She worked three years at Toledo General Hospital as a nurse for home health care where she met her husband to be. After their marriage they moved to North Branch. She and Hal J. Buck were united in marriage February 16, 1926 in Deshler, Ohio. He preceded her in death March 1984. Elizabeth enjoyed sewing and cooking. Surviving are daughter: Mary Johnson of Saginaw; grandchildren, Betty Jane and husband Donald R. Baker of Saginaw. John Jefferson Burns, 81, of Cass City, formerly of Kingston, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. John is survived by his wife, Wanda; children, Patricia Vaught and her husband, Clyde, of Mayville, John C. Burns and his wife, Mary Lou, of Cass City, and Mary Johnston and her husband, Thomas, of Frankenmuth; grandchildren, Mike Walker and his wife, Angela, Joy Perkins and her husband, Randy, Amy Harneck, Julie Swain and her husband, David, Stephanie Hutchinson and her husband, David, and Lisa Burns; great-grandchildren Andy, Rista, Joshua, Kyle, Courtney, Rachel and Nathan; two great-grandchildren due in the spring; a sister, Marjorie Torr; and many nieces and nephews. Jeannette Bursick, 69, died Sunday evening, Nov. 26, 2000, at her home following a one-year illness. She was born July 2, 1931, in Winsor Township, daughter of the late Ernest and Stella (Law) Haag. She was married to Jack E. Bursick on Dec. 19, 1953. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1977. Jeannette had been a health caregiver in the Sebewaing area for many years. She also had been employed at Meijer's in Essexville. She was a member of The Christian Church in Sebewaing and the Sebewaing American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 293. Surviving are one daughter, four sons and their wives, Laurie Harder, Brian Bursick and his wife, Sue, Timothy Bursick and his wife, Diane, Clayton Wade Bursick, all of Sebewaing, and Michael Bursick and his wife, Sue, of Platteville, Wisc.; 11 grandchildren; three step- grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Ahler and her husband, Donald, of Bay City, and Nancy Anderson and her husband, Ken, of Sebewaing; six brothers, Ernest Haag and his wife, Florence, of Flint, Fred Haag and his wife, Maudie, Thomas Haag and his wife, Ida, all of Sebewaing, Dennis Haag and his wife, Dana, of Bay City, John Haag of Georgia, and William Haag of Lakeland, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Riddlebarger. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Lucile Bush, 87, of Caro went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She was born on Aug. 18, 1912, at the family home in Cass City. The former Lucile Anthes was a graduate of Cass City High School and Tuscola County Normal. Lucile taught at rural schools near Cass City for eight years. She married Theron Bush on March 18, 1942 at a family home in Cass City and moved to the Bush family farm near Unionville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1962. Lucile went to work as a social worker in 1957 and continued until retiring in 1975. In April 1967, she left the farm and moved to Caro where she continued to live. On Feb. 8, 1968, she married Otto Bush and he also preceded her in death, on May 7, 1969. She was member of the Caro United Methodist Church, the United Women's Society and the Michigan State Retirees Association. Lucile was a very active grandmother and friend to many. She is survived by two daughters and one son, Ilene Neterer of Sandusky, Donna Hastings of San Rafael, Calif., and Donald Bush and his wife, Sharon, of Sandusky; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, one sister and two sisters-in-law, Paul Anthes and his wife, Ludie, of Conway, Ark., Alice Gottsleben and her husband, Edwin, of Bad Axe, and Josephine Marie Anthes; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Susan (Race) Anthes, her husbands, Theron Bush and Otto Bush; one foster child, Patty Roberson; an infant sister, Lena; two brothers, Roy and Harold Anthes; and one granddaugher, Joanna Neterer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2000, at Caro United Methodist Church in Caro, with the Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Moravian Cemetery in Unionville. Visitation will be from from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. A.J. Butler, of Manton died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac. He was 86. Mr. Butler was born Sept. 30, 1914 in Mayville to Mahlon and Maude (Sherman) Butler. He married Gladys Brown June 12, 1935 in Fostoria. Mr. Butler grew up in Mayville. He farmed and lived in Pontiac where he worked at Fisher Body, Pontiac Motors and GMC Truck. In 1946 he moved to Manton and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Goodrich, Malleable Iron Company and Kysor Corp. Mr. Butler retired from Kysor in 1976. He and his wife made their home with their granddaughter Deb Atkins and her family in LeRoy for the last few years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved being with his family, and was a member of the Rollins Church. Survivors include his wife; children Charles of LeRoy, Mona Arlt and Alonzo, both of Traverse City, and Everett (Susan) of Grafton, N.D.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice Wood and Ethlyn Long. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rollins Church in Manton, Rev. Robert Lanning officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Manton. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rollins Church.

Thomas V. Campbell, Vassar, age 66, died Sunday, May 21, 2000 at his home. Mr. Campbell was born December 6, 1933 in Detroit, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer and Charlotte (Vining) Campbell. He and Louanne Lewis were united in marriage August 28, 1957. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. and was a member of the Vassar American Legion Post. Mr. Campbell retired from A & P grocery store in Clio as produce manager after 40 years of service. He enjoyed bow hunting and was a sports advocate. Michael "Mike" Thomas Carlson, 43, of Cass City died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born April 18, 1956, in Mount Clemens to Emil and Julia (Spencer) Carlson. He married Teresa Teller in 1990 in Caro. Mike worked for Numatics in Sandusky, Ford Motor Co. and Macomb County Human Development. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mike enjoyed gardening and growing roses and was building a greenhouse. He was very creative and artistic. Lola Eleanor Chippi, 84, of Cass City died Monday, July 24, 2000, at her home. She was born February 25, 1916, in Sanilac County to George and Ethel (Meredith) Ferguson. She married Frank L. Chippi. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1987. Lola was a Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star of Decker. She was active in Hills and Dales General Hospital Auxiliary, Cass City VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Senior Citizens of Cass City. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church. Lola enjoyed playing cards, needlework, bowling, baking and spending time with her family. Lola is survived by her son, Duane Chippi and his wife, Janice, of Cass City; daughter, Darlene Collins and her husband, Don, of Sam Rayburn, Texas; a son, Bradley Chippi and his wife, Susie, of Cass City; a daughter, Sherry Michels and her husband, Greg, of Ortonville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Ferguson and his wife, Marilyn, of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews. Harry E. Clark Caro Passed away Tuesday evening, April 11, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 91. He was born December 17, 1908 in Austin Twp., Sanilac County, the son of the late Elson and Leah (Hiller) Clark. He graduated from Cass City High School and went to Detroit to work for the Ford Motor Company. He married Ann Fela on May 20, 1936 in Detroit. After Mr. Clark left the Ford Motor Company in 1947, they moved to Caro, where he began his own automotive and hardware supply business and traveled throughout Tuscola, Huron and Sanilac counties to his customers, retiring in 1975. Ann, his wife of 52 years, died on September 20, 1988. Mr. Clark was an active member of the Caro United Methodist Church and a former member of the Caro Exchange Club. He enjoyed, for the last 30 years, building and maintaining over 100 bluebird houses. Harry was recognized and received awards for his efforts from various nature organizations and publications, such as the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Audubon Society. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Kenneth and Mary Clark of Caro, Carol and Bob Ingalls of O'Fallon, MO and Nancy and Bob Avery of DeWitt; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by one son, Harley Clark in 1961 and by his two sisters, Hazel and Marie. Funeral service was held at the the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14 with Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Burial was in the Elkland Twp. Cemetery in Cass City.

Genevieve Craig West Branch, IA formerly of Caro, MI.~Passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2000 at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch, Iowa, following a short illness. She was 82. She was born on March 1, 1918 in Caro, the daughter of Leo and Hannah Smalley Allen. She was a Caro High School graduate. Genevieve married Willis Craig and the couple lived in Detroit for several years until the death of Willis. She moved to Caro and in 1979 to West Branch, Iowa, to be near her sister. Mrs. Craig was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the West Branch United Methodist Church. She made handiwork and sold her items at flea markets. She is survived by four sons, Beaudry Craig of Caro, Dallas and Lucy Craig of Reese, Leon and Sheilah Craig of Titusville, FL, Kenneth R. Craig of Coralville, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; a brother, Floyd; and a sister, Flavia Murch. Funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church on Friday, June 9 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ray Jacques officiating. Burial will be in Almer Township Cemetery. Genevieve A. Crawley, 58, of Cass City died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2000, at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. She was born May 31, 1942, in Elkton at the home of her parents, Olivia (Martinez) Torres and the late Louis Torres. After graduating from Elkton High School, she enrolled at St. Lawrence Mercy School of Nursing in Lansing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1965. She worked in the Metro area a few years before coming to Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City where she remained for 15 years. In the mid-1980s, she traveled to Chicago's Mount Sinai Hospital and returned to Hills and Dales in 1997, retiring in 1998 for health reasons. Surviving are her son, Jimmy Crawley and his wife, Shannon, in the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristen and Justin; her mother, Olivia Torres of Lapeer; three sisters, Anita Lopez and her husband, Alex, of Lapeer, Louise Torres of San Antonio, Texas, and Margaret Stevens of Lapeer; and three brothers, Louis Torres and his wife, Pamela, of Boone, N.C., Robert Torres of Cass City, and Paul Torres and his wife, Elaine, of Midland. Meta I. Daenzer, of Richville, died Thursday morning, March 10, 2005 at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth. Age 95 years. She was born October 3, 1909 in Frankenmuth, daughter of the late George and Augusta (Schmandt) Schluckebier. She was married to Walter Kueffner on December 13, 1931. He predeceased her in June of 1961. She then was married to Adam Auernhammer December 20, 1962. He predeceased her in June of 1969. On April 27, 1974 she was married to her third husband, Arthur Daenzer, he predeceased her August 14, 2000. Meta was a member of the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville, it’s Ladies Aid and the Women’s Missionary League. He memory will be cherished by her seven step-children and their spouses, Kenneth and Marge Daenzer of Vassar, Robert and Dotty Daenzer of Frankenmuth, Gene and Barb Daenzer of Reese, Ruth Daenzer and Chris Kaiser-Malicoat, both of Pheonix, Arizona, Roy and Bernice Auernhammer and Dale and Joyce Auernhammer all of Vassar. Also surviving are her 16 Step-grandchildren, 20 Step great-grandchildren, and her two half brothers, Raymond Beckrow of Saginaw, and Wilmar Beckrow of Millington. Meta was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers, Ida Keinath, Alma Schreiner, Renata Otto and Rueben, Otto, Alfred and George Schluckebier, and her step-son Robert Auernhammer in 1974. -SERVICES- Funeral and committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 from the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. William Dewald Oscoda, formerly Akron Died of cancer at his home on Thursday, May 18, 2000. He was 70. The son of Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Stengel) Dewald, William was born on March 17, 1930, the youngest of his parents' 12 children. After graduating from Akron High School in 1948, he worked for Woodcraft in Bay City. Will married the former Barbara Lou Prime on April 15, 1950. He worked as a carpenter and mason for Partlo brothers Construction in Akron before accepting a position as custodian at Akron-Fairgrove Schools, from which he retired in 1995. Will was a member of the Akron Fire Department for 40 years, was an extremely active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fairgrove, and was an enthusiastic amateur wood carver. Will is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; a daughter, Karen Riegle and her husband, Tim of Bad Axe; sons, Donald of San Bernardino, CA, David of Akron and Steven of Westland; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Riegle and Sarah Riegle of Bad Axe; two brothers and two sisters, Jacob of Akron, Frederick of Unionville, Emily Wisenbaugh of Menominee Falls, Wisconsin and Lydia Voss of Akron. Will will be missed by his brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three infant sons; six brothers, Alex, Phillip, David, George, Henry and John; and one sister, Elizabeth Campbell. Alexander B. (Britt) Dicks Caro Passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. He was 73. He was born on February 12, 1927, at Ypsilanti, and moved to Caro as a child. Britt was a Caro High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran of World War ll. After his discharge, he worked as an independent milk contractor, worked at Michigan Sugar Company and was a hobby farmer. He most recently was a resident care aide at the Caro Regional Center, until his retirement. He was one of the founders of the Tuscola County Civil Air Patrol and was once chairman of the school board for the Orr-Moore Country School. Britt was a member of the Theron W. Atwood, Sr. American Legion Post #7, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Caro Post #4164 and the State of Michigan Retirees Association. He is survived by his longtime fiancee, Bev Smith; 10 children, Mary and Gordon Taggett of Caro, Britton and Rose Dicks of Caro, Allen Dicks of Caro, Carol and Don Hartman of Clio, Samuel Dicks of Holly, Lerry and Tammy Dicks of Cass City, Kelly and Mark Titus of Cass City, James Dicks and Renee Bowers of Snover, Robert and Thelma Dicks of Caro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Proctor; and two brothers, William James Samuel Dicks and Robert A. Dicks. Betty L. Doerr, 72, of Cass City died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. Laverne Harold Donnelly of Vassar, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at his home. He was 61 years of age. Mr. Donnelly was born April 9, 1939 in Saginaw and was the son of William Donnelly and Elviria Berlin McCreedy. He had been employed as a welder at Peter's Manufacturing in Vassar. Mr. Donnelly enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and spending time with his family and his many nieces and nephews. He had been a resident of Vassar since 1958 and was a member of Vassar F.O.E. #2380. Surviving is his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy; one son, Patrick; three granddaughters, Amy, Jenny, Tricia; one great-granddaughter, Kayla; his mother, Elviria McCreedy; and one brother, Midge Donnelly. He was preceded in death by his father, William and one brother, Duane. Vincent J. DuBois, of Millington, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at the Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was 18 years of age. Vincent, the son of Keith and Catherine (Hascall) DuBois, was born September 4, 1981 in Jacksonville, Florida. He had lived in Millington the past two years, moving from New Baltimore. Vincent was a member of Millington Church of God and attended Millington High School. Vincent was an aspiring guitar star. Surviving are his parents, Keith and Cathy; brothers, Timothy, Joshua and Dakota, all at home; grandparents, Joseph and Martha Hascall; great-grandmother, Marian Hascall of Vassar; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Eunice M. Englehart, 76, of Cass City died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in her home. She was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Novesta Township to Maynard and Annie (Neil) DeLong. She married Albert D. Englehart on May 4, 1944, in Henderson, Ky. He died May 13, 1987. Eunice worked for General Cable, retiring after 19 years. She was a life member of Novesta Church of Christ for more than 64 years. Up until recently, she was a Sunday school teacher. Eunice enjoyed crafts, including knitting and embroidery. She made her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a Christmas tree ornament each year. Eunice loved being outside, working in her garden and flowers, even mowing her grass. Eunice is survived by her children, Donald Englehart and his wife, Barbara, of Deford, Virginia Elaine Denby and her husband, William, of Kimball, Douglas Englehart and his wife, Debra, of Cass City, Vivian E. Bracey and her husband, Lee, of Fremont, Ind., Duane Englehart and his wife, Sue, of Caro, Delbert Englehart of Muskegon, and Dallas Englehart and his wife, Dawn, of Bad Axe; 14 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; sisters Dolly Harrington and her husband, Claude, of Port Huron, Lucille Miskel and her husband, George, of Sacramento, and Doris Cooper and her husband, Robert, of Port Huron; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Madaline Carlisle and Irene DeLong; and a brother, Francis DeLong. She married Richard Fackler on November 13, 1937 and he preceded her in death June 16, 1988. She was a member of the Watertown Center Bible Church. Dugald Donald Ferguson, 68, of Marlette died Wednesday morning, May 31, 2000, at the Ann Arbor Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital after a long illness. He was born July 15, 1931, in Cass City to Duncan and Ella (Sherman) Ferguson. He married Janette L. Lobb on Aug. 28, 1954, in Wyandotte. Dugald served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He worked as a painter and interior decorator. He was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Clifford and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed boating, camping, steam engines and his grandchildren. Dugald is survived by his wife, Janette; daughters, Celine M. Becking and her husband, Randy, of Bad Axe, and Pauline M. Carter of Marlette; grandchildren, Erica, Melissa, Krista, Charles and Michael Becking, and Austin, Nicole and Tressa Mae Carter; brothers, Frank Ferguson and his wife, Gertrude, of Decker, Archie Ferguson and his wife, Geraldine, George Ferguson and his wife, Donna, Duncan Ferguson and his wife, Muriel, Hugh Ferguson and his wife, Judy, all of Marlette; a sister, Ann Henderson and her husband, Richard, of Marlette; and many nieces and nephews. David Leroy Freeland Sr., of Live Oak, Florida, died on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at the Houston Medical Center. He was 63 years of age. Mr. Freeland graduated from Vassar High School with the class of 1956. He was employed by Vassar Schools for 10 years. He married Nancy Eikelberg on June 22, 1974. Mr. Freeland was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He retired as a mechanic for the City of Treasure Island, Florida. He was a member of the Wildwood United Methodist Church in Wildwood, Florida. Surviving is his wife of 25 years Nancy of Live Oak, Florida; three sons, James D. of Live Oak, Michael D. of Clearwater, Florida, and David Leroy of Bushnell, Florida; two daughters, Dawn Jescke of Sumterville, Florida, and Joan Morbidelli of Bonaire, Georgia; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, JoAnn R. Everett Freeland, Vassar, Age 77, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 4, 2000, at home to join his beloved wife of 53 years, whom he had just laid to rest earlier that day. He was an executive officer during his corporate career in the grocery industry. After retirement, he continued to remain active as a building contractor, real estate agent, a finish carpenter, gardener and avid reader. He was a former board member of the Vassar Public Schools and the Vassar Golf and Country Club. He currently was serving on the Tuscola Township Planning Commission. Myrtle Gawne, Vassar age 99 went to be with the Lord Wednesday May 17, 2000 at the Frankenmuth Care Center. Myrtle was born July 22,1900 in Portland, OR., the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Frank & Anna (Nielsen) Kreinbring. She graduated from Nursing School in 1922 and continued in that profession until retirement. She was joined in marriage January 6, 1938 to Alfred W. Lyle Gillings, Fairgrove Township, age 76, died Monday, July 17, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. Lyle was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge F & AM 93 of Platte, SD. Lyle was also a member of I.B.E.W. Local 557 of Saginaw, the Mid- Michigan Emmaus Community and a member of the Fairgrove United Methodist Church. Lyle is survived by his cherished wife, Bernadine, and his children: Donald W. and wife Janice K. Mitchell Aaron Glasgow, 76, of Millington died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw. He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Rice and her husband, Kenneth, of Port Austin, Ruth Ann Hole and her husband, Vernon "Pete", of Newago, and Michelle Moody and her husband, George, of Port Hope; and two sons, David Glasgow and Albert Glasgow, both of Millington; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Agnes Schultz of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Glasgow Woolner of Port Hope; and several nieces and nephews. Richard "Rick" G. Graves Sr., of Vassar, died Monday, October 2, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. He was 49 years of age. Mr. Graves was born March 14, 1951 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Oral and Helen (Coats) Graves. He married Diane Ruperd September 14, 1968. Mr. Graves was employed at Means Industry of Vassar with over 24 years of service and was an assistant Scout Master for five years for Vassar Boy Scout Troop #201. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed motorcycle trips, especially to the Upper Peninsula. Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Diane of Vassar; and his family, two sons, Richard Jr. and wife Stacy Graves of Mayville, James and wife Lisa Graves of Reese; three grandchildren, Destinee, Caressa, Dylan; one brother, William Graves of Vassar; two sisters, Valerie Graves of Mt. Alleyne L. Gray, Passed away Saturday, August 5, at Tendercare of Saginaw after a long illness. Alleyne L. Aldrich, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mert and Mary (Schlicht) Aldrich, was born December 14, 1910 on the family farm near Vassar, where she resided her entire life until her illness. She graduated from Vassar High School in 1928 and attended Bliss Alger Business institute. She retired in 1971 from Caro State Hospital and previously worked at Dow Chemical Company and Saginaw General Hospital. She married David S. Gray in December, 1963. He predeceased her in June of 1976. Surviving are: two sons and two daughters, Donald L. (Kathleen) Tinglan; David A. Tinglan; Carol J. Johnson all of Saginaw; Linda S. (George) Jupin of Alexandria, VA; a son-in-law: Gerald E. Edna May Harris, 88, of Marlette, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, Michigan. She was born on June 17, 1911 in Kingston, Michigan, the daughter of the late Arthur and May (McCracken) VanBlaircom. She was a lifelong area resident. She owned the Coffee Cup Cafe in Marlette for many years. She is survived by three sons, Clinton and Elly Sadler of Lansing, Richard and Bette Sadler of Engadine, Michigan and Keith and Ilene Sadler of California; two daughters, Mona and Kurt Schaefer of Columbiaville and Dona and Walter Svoboda of Kingston; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Harris on October 6, 1977; a brother, Foster Van Blaircom; and a sister, Amy Kelly. John C. Harrison of East Tawas died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital. He was 83 years of age. Mr. Harrison was born August 7, 1916 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He married Jenetta Cobb. He owned and operated Johnny's Food Shop grocery store in Vassar for 33 years until his retirement in 1976. They then moved to Tawas Lake in East Tawas. Mr. Harrison served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts in Richville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tawas City and was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. Jimmy Lee Hartsell, 63, of Lewiston, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. He was born on Nov. 21, 1937, in Cass City, son of Leeland and Olive (Philpot) Hartsell. He married Joyce Sadro on March 16, 1960, in Bad Axe. He retired from Carmet, where he was a supervisor for 40 years. He enjoyed NASCAR races, snowmobiling, jet skiing, four-wheeling, deer hunting, coaching Little League and race car driving. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1957. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hartsell, of Lewiston; a son, Dale Hartsell and his wife, Gretchen McBride, of Caseville; a daughter, Sharon Meredith of San Diego, Calif.; his mother, Olive Hartsell, of Bad Axe; a brother, Gary Hartsell of Bad Axe; a sister, Joan Nowland and her husband, Ken, of Caro; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Hartsell of Bad Axe; a half-sister, Debbie O'Brien and her husband, Jim, of Caro; and his stepmother, Marie Hartsell of Caro. He was preceded in death by his father, Leeland Hartsell; and a brother, Gordy Hartsell. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being made by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.


Allan J. Hartwick, 62, of Deford died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Lapeer General Hospital following an automobile accident. He was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Cass City to Arthur Allen and Anna Maria (Hergenreder) Hartwick. He married Iva M. Thom on Dec. 13, 1958, in Sandusky. Allan was a dairy and crop farmer for many years. He also was a heavy equipment operator for Iafrate and drove truck for Ferrel Gas. Allan served on the Novesta Township Zoning Board and was a former member of the Cass City School's Board of Education. Allan was an elder of his church. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Allan loved people and had many friends. Allan is survived by his wife, Iva; his children, Lynn Kilbourn and her husband, Lee, of Deford, Cort Hartwick and his wife, Dawn, of Deford, Lori Welch and her husband, Rick, of Cass City and Carla Clink and her husband, Randy, of Caro; grandchildren, Bryan, Aaron, Jamie and Justin Kilbourn, Heaven Leigh Hartwick, Micah Randall and Mistie and Rickie Welch; a sister, Hazel Ann Boissonneault of Lawrenceville, Ga.; many nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Helen Thom of Peck. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with John Wilbur, Jerome Frandle and John Byers officiating. Ryan W. Hartwick, 13, of Cass City died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City, as a result of injuries sustained in a four-wheel ATV accident. He was born Sept. 26, 1986, in Cass City to Richard E. and Donna (Francis) Hartwick. Ryan completed seventh grade at Cass City Middle School in June. He enjoyed playing football, baseball and basketball. He recently completed Alma College Basketball Camp. Ryan loved sports, especially basketball, which he practiced nearly every evening. He loved using his computer and spending time with his family and friends. Ryan is survived by his parents, Rick and Donna Hartwick; a sister, Heidi Hartwick, and a brother, Kyle Hartwick, both at home; grandparents, Elmer and Janet Francis of Cass City, Ray and Helen Waggoner of Vassar, and Elwyn and Toni Hartwick of Mayville; great-grandmother, Aleta Wills of Bad Axe; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Rachel Wright; and great-grandparents, Virginia and Clayton Hartwick, Ray and Susie Francis, and Elgin Wills. Ted Hergenreder, 85, of Kingston died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City, after a short illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Rollin Mader and John Byers officiating. Gracia Frances Hergenreder, Kingston, Died peacefully in her home with her family at her side Friday, July 22, 2005, at the age of 92. She was born Oct. 26, 1912 at home in Peck to Theron and Frances (Dunn) VanSickle. She married Theodore ‘Ted’ Hergenreder Sept. 27, 1938 in Detroit. He died Jan. 17, 2000. Gracia graduated from Peck High School. She and Ted farmed. When Ted had his back problems, Gracia did the milking and raised their family. Gracia was famous for her home-baked cinnamon rolls and her beautiful flower gardens. She loved her grandchildren and truly enjoyed the babies. Gracia’s Bible study and worship services were very important to her and for years were held in her home. Gracia is survived by her daughters, Muriel (William) Beltz of Oxford and Arlene (the late Wayne) Nichols of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Cherie Dawn (Mark) Beltz Edwards of Cedar Springs, Wendi Noel (Jeffrey) Beltz Bennett of Spring, TX, William Dean Beltz II of Davison; great-grandchildren, Raymond Edwards, Theodore Edwards, Brendan Bennett, Sean Bennett; sister, Ethel Beardslee of Newberry; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Harold VanSickle, Knessie Welt, Lilas Dingman, Theron Verde VanSickle, Charlotte K. “Lottie” Essex, Milne VanSickle and infant brother. Helen M. Hill, Vassar Age 89 died Tuesday May 30, 2000 at St. Mary' s Hospital. Helen was born September 14, 1910 in Lorain, OH. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George and Emma (Racz) Aranyos. She graduated from Central Michigan University and began teaching business in North Branch from 1933-35 & then Rochester from 1935-39 before moving to Vassar. She married Dwight C. Hill on Aug. 9, 1940 in Flint. She and her husband owned and operated a Ford Car & Tractor Dealership, DWIGHT HILL Inc. for over 40 years, ( She was one of the first women in the State to own a Ford franchise). Helen enjoyed playing bridge, poker ,bowling, gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles, and reading. She participated and held office in many Civic Organizations. She was a member of St. Francis X. Cabrini Church. Surviving are: 2 sons: Russell Donald Hill (Bonnie) of Freeland; John Wesley Hill (Kathy) of West Branch; Daughter: Mary Helen Hoerlein (Paul) of Vassar; 8 grandchildren: Mary Zendejas & Chelsea Hill; George (Julie); John & Erik Hill; Matthew, Christopher & Jonathan Hoerlein; 4 great grandchildren: Joshua, Patrick, Jordan, & Sophia Zendejas. Also several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Charles Aranyos (Louise). John Jacques Caro Passed away on Monday, June 19, 2000, at Caro Community Hospital. He was 78. He was born on October 1, 1921, to John and Alice (Cottrell) Jacques in Almer Township. John married the former Bernadine Daniels on March 14, 1942, in Caro. He was not only a skilled mechanic for many years, but most people who knew him will remember him for his love of woodworking and building horse drawn wagons and stagecoaches which he exhibited in many local parades. John not only enjoyed building and displaying the wagons and coaches, but also learning the history behind the stagecoach as well as the history of Caro. He served as 4-H leader for several years, teaching youth how to properly handle and ride horses. John's door was always open, and he was forever willing and anxious to share his knowledge with others. He was a member of the Catholic faith. In addition to his wife, Bernadine, he was the proud father of 10 children, who still survive him, Carl and Carol Jacques of Caro, Gary and Jennifer Jacques of Caro, Harold and Margaret Jacques of Snover, Sandy and Keith Lippowiths of Caro, Richard and Faye Jacques of Hadley, Karen and Jerry Snider of Caro, Marlene and Earl Gohs of Caro, Yvonne and Dr. Afonso Ferreira of Caro, Joe Jacques of Mayville, Vicki and Keith Johnson of Caro. He was blessed with 25 surviving grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. His sisters, Pauline LaPratt of Caro, Madeline and Mike Marker of Caro, Mildred Leveque of Saginaw, Ruth Moeller of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Otto and Joanne Jacques of Oscoda; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome, Frances and Ted Jacques; one grandson, Carl Jacques, Jr.; and a sister, Mabel Garner. Funeral service will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Thursday, June 22 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Yaroch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Elsie V. Jahr, 89, of Sebewaing died Wednesday evening, Oct. 25, 2000, at Tendercare of Cass City following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Unionville, daughter of the late Theodore and Emma (Faber) Bolzman. She was united in marriage to Arthur J. Jahr on April 29, 1934, in Unionville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1986. Elsie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed making rag rugs, crocheting, sewing and especially loved playing with her grandchildren. Surviving are one daughter, Lorna Perket and her husband, Ward; one son, Donald Jahr and his wife, Mary, all of Sebewaing; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 19 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Bolzman; and three brothers, infant Victor Frederick, Victor Frederick and Nelson Bolzman. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Northlawn Cemetery. George W. King, Sr., 87, of Cass City died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in his home. George is survived by his children, George W. King, Jr., and his wife, Phyllis, of Cass City, Bette Lou Hunt and her husband, Calvin, of Ubly, Glen L. King and his wife, Janet, of Auburn, Jerry King and his wife, Bev, of Bridgeport and James L. Elsie Elizabeth Kohls, 86, of Marlette, formerly of Caro, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Kings AFC Home in Marlette. She was born May 13, 1913 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of the late Richard and Augusta (Schnellert) Laube. She married Richard Kohls on June 19, 1945 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1971. She moved back to Marlette six and one-half years ago from Caro. She was the founder of Teale's Cafe in Marlette in 1940 and her mother started Elsie's Restaurant in Caro and operated it until 1970. She is survived by two nephews, Douglas and Iva May Teale of Marlette and Greg and Agnes Laube of Bay City; and two nieces, Carol Laube of Saginaw and Elaine and Ronald Reil of Flint. Cemetery Chapel services were conducted Thursday, March 30, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Indianfields Cemetery in Caro with Rev. Mary Dupre officiating. Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.


Marion M. Kolar, 79, of Cass City, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Gladwin, the daughter of the late Albert and Sadie (Gibbard) Lang. She married Thomas Kolar on Jan. 24, 1942, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Palms. She was a graduate of Minden City Elementary School and a 1994 graduate of Homer High School at 74 years of age. She was a telephone operator for six years in Minden City and a clerk at Ed's Country Market at the Hog's Back. She was a former member of St. Ignatius Alter Society and a parishioner at St. Ignatius for 50 years. She resided on the family farm on Spencer Road in Greenleaf Township for 48 years. She moved to Homer in 1990 and lived there until 1995, when she moved to Cass City. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Kolar of Cass City; three daughters, Mrs. Mierial Gage and her husband, James of Goodrich, Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson and her husband, Lee, of Brooklyn, Mrs. Christine Slezak and her husband, Bruce, of Harrison Township; four grandsons; three granddaughters; one step- great granddaughter; one brother, Donald Lang and his wife, Marie, of Palms; one sister, Helen Oswald of Essexville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; four brothers, John, George, Dennis and Maurice Lang; one sister, Lucia Lang. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2000, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. The Rev. Anthony Wozniak, pastor, will officiate. Edward W. Korthals, of Oxford died on Monday, September 25, 2000. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Korthals was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He retired from Pontiac Motors after 38 years of service and formerly owned the Korland Machine Shop in Rochester Hills and the Pennywick Christmas Tree Plantation in Vassar. Mr. Korthals is survived by his wife Lucille; children, Virginia Lividotto of Waterford and Dean (Thelma) Korthals of Rochester Hills; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild; brothers, Earhardt and Aldolph Korthals; and sister Helen Gretzinger. Twila June Kukulski, Died Saturday May 27, 2000 at Hills and Dale of Cass City. Born June 24, 1932 in Millington Twp. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd and Abigal (Crooks) Waterman. She and Charles Arthur Kukulski were united in marriage May 20, 1950. He preceded her in death July 31, 1992. Surviving are her 5 children: Daniel and wife Suzanne Kukulski of Saginaw; Debra Miceli of Saginaw; Susan and husband Bud Steven of Palmer, Alaska;Nancy and husband Bill Kelley of Caro; Peggy Kukulski of Caro; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 sisters and 1 brother: Evelyn Averill of Davison; Wava Chiasek of Davison; Eva Martin of Caro; Leo Waterman of National City; Numerous nieces and nephews. At family reunions and gatherings everyone wanted her delicious cabbage rolls. She enjoy playing cards and would play just about anything and enjoy it. One year her husband Charles decided he would raise pigs and Twila spent a lot of time feeding and chasing them. She enjoyed Polka music on Sunday morning radio. Her proudest achievements were her delicious cabbage rolls and her flowers.


Charles "Chuck" F. Kulinec Jr., Millington age 58 died Easter Sunday April 23, 2000 at Hurley Medical Center as a result of an accident while at work. Mr. Kulinec was employed with Delphi East as a millwright with 38 years service and was a member of the union. During the 1970's he raced Polaris snowmobiles and Yamaha motorcycles in Enduros. Anna M. Langmaid, 66, of Caro died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Caro Community Hospital, Caro. She was born April 13, 1933, in Birchville Township to Ace and Eva (Morgan) Wixon. She married Donald R. Langmaid on Sept. 11, 1950, in Indiana. Anna attended Delta Community College and Saginaw Valley State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in social work. Years ago, she worked in the steel wool factory and cannery in Caro. Later, she worked at Fisher Convalescent Home in Mayville. She last worked as an outreach worker for the Human Development Commission. Anna is survived by her husband, Donald R. Clinton L. Law, 83, of Cass City died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Marlette Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Huron County to Lewis and Lottie (Wadsworth) Law. He married Margaret L. Merchant on Oct. 16, 1937, in the Cass City Presbyterian Church. Clinton was a dairy farmer until 1957. He bought Law Feed & Supply, later selling it to Farm Bureau, but he continued as a salesman. He worked for Ralston Purina, Borden Chemical Co. as business manager, and he retired from Caro Building Center in 1979 after 10 years. Clinton was a member of the Cass City Presbyterian Church, which he joined in 1932. He served as a deacon and elder. He was active with 4-H. Clinton enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and he enjoyed square dancing. He truly enjoyed caring for his beautiful lawn. Clinton is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Sherry Dillon and her husband, Wayne, of Cass City and Delbert Law and his wife, Shirley, of Whitmore Lake; grandchildren, Jeff Dillon and his wife, Julee, Scott Dillon and his wife, Suzanna, and Elizabeth Law; a great-grandchild, Jaydee Dillon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Law; and a sister, Gertrude MacCullum. Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at the Cass City Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Morningstar of Sandusky Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was in the Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Dillon, John Merchant, Scott Dillon, Bill Ewald, Elizabeth Law, Jerry Wittiker, Larry Merchant and Dick Law. Grover J. Laurie, 88, of Cass City passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 12, 2000, at his residence in Cass City. He was born in Bad Axe on March 30, 1912, the son of Wallace and Marion Gill Laurie. On March 16, 1938, he married Gladys Rose in Elkton. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1993. They thoroughly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Mr. Laurie was a prominent dairy farmer all of his lifetime, and he was a member of Gagetown United Methodist Church, he was a third-degree Master Mason and life member of Tyler Lodge No. 317, Cass City. He was Elmwood Township supervisor for many years, Tuscola County Road Commissioner for 36 years, and served on the Michigan Milk Producers Advisory Board. Surviving are a son, Jack Laurie and his wife, Betty, of Cass City; grandchildren Doug Laurie and his wife, Tammy, of Cass City, Dana Bennett and her husband, Garald, of Gagetown, and David Laurie and his wife, Stephanie, of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Guthry and Evan Laurie, Jonathan, Rebecca and Lauren Bennett, and Maegan and Whitney Laurie; a brother, Tom Laurie and his wife, Millie, of Cass City; and a sister, Janet Martin and her husband, Don, of Gagetown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Yates. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Gagetown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Levitz, Carl Enos Levitz, Sr., 74, of 2813 S. Sixth St., Elkhart, Indiana, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) in his home. Ruth May Libkuman, 88, of Goodrich, Michigan, formerly of Marlette, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at the Genesys Health Park Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She lived in Goodrich for the past 22 years. She was born on June 5, 1911 in Caro, Michigan, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Moore) Brown. She graduated from Caro High School in 1929, and married Burleigh Libkuman on July 30, 1933 in Marlette. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1981. She was a life member of the Marlette First Presbyterian Church and Marlette Eastern Stars Chapter #199. She is survived by a daughter, Burleyne and Rob Slater of Goodrich; a sister, Orpha Graham of Prudenville, Michigan; two granddaughters, Deleyne and Douglas Hayes of Linden, Michigan and Dana and Paul Manion of Goodrich; a grandson, Daniel Slater of Goodrich; and a great-grandson, Bobby Manion of Goodrich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burleigh; her father, Charles Brown; and her mother, Ethel Moore. Michael D. Lich, 22, of Kingston died suddenly in a military-related vehicle accident on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Yuma, Ariz. Joseph Magiera, Caro, Passed away Saturday evening, December 2, 2000 at his home following a brief illness. He was 70. Joseph was born December 14, 1929 in Detroit, the son of the late Charles and Anna (Nickiel) Magiera, coming to Wells Twp. and his present home as an infant, and living here since. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict with a tank division in Germany at the Czechoslovakian border from 1952 through 1954. Returning from the Army, he became a dairy farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Michigan Milk Producers Association. On September 6, 1958, he married Alice Collier at her parents' farm home in Wells Twp. Surviving besides his wife are six children and their spouses, Terry and Elizabeth Magiera of Deford, Debra Clouse, Larry and Stephanie Magiera, Joe Magiera, Joan and Alan Humes and Louie and Kimberly Magiera, all of Caro; 16 grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Wanda Mlynarksi of Grosse Isle, Dorothy and Leo Yakes of North Branch, Frank and Eleanore Magiera and Leo and Betty Magiera, all of Caro; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by newborn twin children, Joseph and Marie Magiera in 1959 and by his brother Stevev Magiera in 1999. Kimberly Ann Maunsell, 32, of Caseville died Thursday morning, Sept. 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born June 12, 1968, in Cass City, daughter of Gerald and Mary (Spencer) Gabler. Kimberly moved to the Daytona Beach, Fla., area at age 8. While in school she met Michael J. Maunsell. They were married Oct. 28, 1995, at St. Brendans Catholic Church, Ormond Beach, Fla. They moved to the Caseville area in April 1995, and she took a position as a computer programmer at the Cooperative Elevator Co. in Pigeon. Surviving are her husband, Michael; her son, Alexander; her parents, Gerald and Mary Gabler of Decker; two sisters, April Smith and her husband, Wayne, of Crab Orchard, Ky., and Kelly Sadro and her husband, Ray, of Sandusky; her paternal grandmother, Anna Gabler of Marlette; and her maternal grandfather, Clarence Spencer Sr., of Caro. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Daytona, Fla. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Jack D. "Sid" McAlpine, Fairgrove, Age 76 died Saturday June 10 , 2000 at Bay Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday June 13, 2000 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove. Rev. David Petersen to officiate, with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday 5-9pm, all day Monday. Tuesday Jack will be taken to church to lie in state at 10 am until service time. Jack was born May 24,1924 in Fairgrove, MI. The son of William & Nellie (Kramer) McAlpine. Jack was a life long Farmer and Insurance Salesman. He married Dorothy Holzwart on January 12, 1945 a union that lasted 55 years. In 1956 Jack was elected to the board of Directors of Sebawing Mutual Fire Insurance Company taking his fathers position. He was president for many years and remained president until the time of his death. In 1957, he founded the Jack D. McAlpine Insurance Agency in Fairgrove. He was very active and held offices and positions in Fairgrove's Michigan Bean Festival, Fairgrove Business Men Association, Fairgrove Lions Club, Vassar Golf and Country Club, Tuscola County Historical Society. He was also a member of The Grace Lutheran Church since 1949. Jack was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter, Fisherman and softball pitcher, pitching for 35 years and winning one state title in 1957. Jack was an admirer of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors, wife: Dorothy, six children Dr. Barry ( Kim) McAlpine, Dr. Fred (Linda) McAlpine, Ed(Lil) McAlpine, Karen (Joe) Kata, Gloria McAlpine, Dr. Josh McAlpine, sister: Glenna Baron, brother: William McAlpine, 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Dr. Warren and Dr. James McAlpine, 2 grandsons Bob Fry, Mike Stephens.


Earl Robert McKee, 69, of Cass City died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw. He was born April 17, 1931, in Owendale, son of the late Earl and Ethel (Finkbeiner) McKee. He and Elsie John Hibberd were married June 27, 1957. Elsie preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1999. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Earl worked in maintenance for the phone company for many years. In 1969, he moved from Roseville to Cass City. He enjoyed playing euchre, pinochle and poker. Earl also loved working with small engines, going to garage sales, traveling and attending fish fries. He is survived by three sons, Terry McKee and his wife, Doreen, of Cass City, Larry McKee and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Roger McKee and his wife, Vicki, of Cass City; one sister, Charlotte Car of Gagetown; one brother, Mac McKee and his wife, Bonnie, of Gagetown; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will take place in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Lillian Elizabeth McSherry, Vassar, age 94, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. McSherry was born August 22, 1905 in Reese, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Anna (Hanratty) Humpert. She and Michael Mc Sherry were united in marriage in 1928. He preceded her in death December 18, 1959. As a young girl Lillian taught school in Richville for five years. She went on to teach school in Mayville and Vassar for several years. In 1968 she recieved the My Favorite Teacher Award from Central School in Vassar presented by the Detroit News. She was the recipient of the 1995 Alumni Honors Retirees Award in Mayville. Lillian was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Left to cherish her memory are, son, Patrick and wife Tommie Mc Sherry of Orange, California; 3 daughters, Rosemary Graubner of Vassar, Ann and husband Edward Diegel of Silverwood and Betty LaPorte of Saginaw; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Michael, great granddaughter Andrea Hauger and 2 sons-in-law, Andrew Graubner and Donald LaPorte. Tonya J. McWilliams, of Millington, died Monday, September 25, 2000 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. She was 19 years of age. He was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Greenleaf Township, Sanilac County, to William and Gertrude (Lundy) Merchant. He married Maxine J. DeLong on Oct. 28, 1939, in Cass City. She died May 24, 1995. Clarence was a crop and dairy farmer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Caro Royal Arch Masons, Cass City Council Tyler Lodge No. 317, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bay City Consistory. Clarence enjoyed driving truck and tractor. Clarence is survived by his sons, D. Larry Merchant and his wife, Judy, of Cass City, and Grant Merchant and his wife, Vickie, of Gagetown; grandchildren, Mark, Kirt, Aimee, Michael and Rick Merchant; a sister, Margaret Law and her husband, Clinton, of Cass City; and several nieces and nephews. She moved to Dodge Center when she was two years old and graduated from High School there in 1921. She graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in 1926. On Dec. 24, 1927 she married A. Elwood Mercill in Jackson, WY. The couple lived near Fairgrove, MI. Mr. Mercill died in September of 1948. She moved to Rochester in December of 1948 and worked in Therapeutic Radiology at the Mayo Clinic as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1968. She was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, enjoyed church activities, especially choir, and traveling. Survivors include her son Ronald (Sharon) of Rochester, her daughter Beverly (Robert) Herival of Livonia, MI, three grandsons, one step granddaughter, one great granddaughter, one step great great granddaughter, one step great grandson, and her sister Joy(Wallace) Ruppert of Fairgrove, MI. Connie Jo Miller, Vassar,age 56, died Tuesday April 11, 2000 at her home. Mrs. Miller was born September 5, 1943 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald B. and Lilian "Weaver" Wing. She and Robert James Miller were united in marriage January 10, 1963. Connie enjoyed sailing, woodworking and crafts. Frances Lora Miller, Vassar, age 87, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 at Tendercare in Cass City. Frances was born May 6, 1913 in Otisville, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Sidney and Gertrude "Gerty" (Sherman) Fuller. On May 21, 1932 she and Otis Miller were united in marraige. She was a member of Vassar First Baptist Church. Frances was a member of Women's Christian Temperance Union for 59 years and had served as District President. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing dresses & aprons, raising her 300 parakeets, parades, ponies and writing. Surviving are husband: Otis; daughter: Sandra Miller of Vassar; sister: Mrs. Jean Fackler of Mayville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Vassar with Rev. Carl Briggs officiating. Harold F. Muegge, 87, of Cass City died Saturday morning, May 27, 2000, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Harold was born in Quincy, Ill., moving to Detroit as a young boy with his parents, the late Henry and Elizabeth Muegge. He graduated from Cass Technology school in 1931. On May 30, 1940, he married Helen Marie Peebles in Detroit and moved to the Trenton area, where he worked at the Trenton Channel Power Plant of Detroit Edison Co. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 at a TEC 5. In his younger years, he found gardening and yard work to be a source of pleasure, for he was a man of action. In later life, he found happiness in watching and encouraging the work of others. He also was blessed in continuing to find love in his second marriage to Margie. Harold married his surviving wife, Margie (Thiel) Schwartz on Nov. 27, 1993. Along with his wife, he is survived by two children, Joyce Helen Troy of Ann Arbor and Janet Elizabeth Bryant and her husband, Michael, of Cass City; stepchildren, John Schwartz and his wife, Joyce, of Deford, Peg Schwartz of Huntsville, Alabama, Dorothy Hill and her husband, Kim, of Snover, and Edward Schwartz and his wife, Deanna, of Keysville, Virginia; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie (Peeples) in 1992; and a daughter, Joan Marie Rittig, in 1996. Memorial services will take place Friday, June 2, 2000, at Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert officiating. Harold donated his remains to Wayne State University Medical School with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Novesta Church of Christ or Rawson Memorial Library.


Linda Ann Mueller, of Richville died Thursday, September 21, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper. She was 50 years of age. Mrs. Mueller was born February 14, 1950 in Saginaw, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis and Beverly (Allen) Miller. She married William Mueller July 20, 1970 in Flint. She loved her family, which was her whole life. Surviving are her husband William; four children, Richard Thomas Mueller, Christina Lynn Mueller, Melissa Ann Mueller all of Vassar, Lynnette Andrea Mueller of Richville; four grandchildren, Ryan, Draven, Magdeline, Brock; her parents, Willis and Beverly Miller of Vassar; three brothers, Dave and Cheryl Miller of Lake George, Fred and Barb Miller of Flint, Jim and Jill Miller of Kingston; one sister Joan Kern of Frankenmuth. John Mulrath, Sr., 84, of Cass City died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Aleda E. Lutz Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born March 2, 1916, in Amidon, S.D., to Nicholas and Theresa (Klopp) Mulrath. He married Helen M. Frederick on Sept. 22, 1945, in Cass City. She died Nov. 9, 1976. John worked for the Cass City Grain Elevator for many years, for Cass City Manufacturing, and for Active Industries in Sebewaing for more than 18 years. He served during World War II in Italy for two years with the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart. John enjoyed working on homes, woodworking and completed a college course in television repair. John is survived by his children, Joseph Mulrath and his wife, Patricia, of Warwick, R.I., Theresa Coates and her husband, Norman, John Mulrath, Jr., and his wife, Lois, Helen Bean, and Peter Mulrath and his wife, Sue, all of Cass City; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Magdalena Provost and her husband, Joseph, of Detroit, Anna Sting and her husband, Waldo, of Ashmore, and Catherine Wisner and her husband, Owen, of Bach; brothers Joseph Muelrath and his wife, Elizabeth, and Nicholas Mulrath, Jr., both of Livonia; a sister-in-law, Edna Muelrath of Livonia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son; and a brother, Steve Muelrath. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with the Rev. Paul E. Ney, 38, of Caro went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 14, 1962, in Bad Axe. He was a 1980 graduate of Bad Axe High School. On May 31, 1986, he married the former Linda Anderson in Caro. Paul was a sales representative for Rowley Brothers in Bay City. He served as a volunteer fireman in both Bad Axe and Caro. He was a sportsman and enjoyed hunting with his dog, Gunner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caro. Paul is survived by his wife, Linda Ney, and daughter, Alyssa Ney, both of Caro; parents, Peter and Margaret Ney of Bad Axe; one sister, Mary Anne Carder and her husband, Wayne Kinney, of Bad Axe; two brothers, David and Tracy Ney, and his twin, Patrick Ney and his wife, Beth, all of Bad Axe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Arlene Anderson of Owendale; brother-in-law, Dennis Anderson, and sisters-in-law, Joyce Anderson and Lee Ann Anderson, all of Caro; several nieces and nephews. Nina E. Noell, 94, of Caro, Michigan formally of Mayville, Michigan died Monday, April 10, 2000 at Tuscola Co. Medical Care Facility in Caro, Michigan. She was born March 10, 1906 in Reed City, Michigan daughter to the late Charles and Rose (Manley) Brezee. She married Andrew Noell August 2, 1924 in Pontiac, Michigan. He passed away November 21, 1986. Nina was a Nurses Aid and attended the Silverwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by four sons: Louis and Ellen Noell of California, Andrew and Theo Noell Jr. of Brooksville, FL, Charles and Neva Noell of Lake George, MI, Jerry and Marlene Noell of White Lake, MI; four daughters: Irene Downs of Oscoda, MI, Linda and John Dudley, Pauline Hintzke and Diane Noell all from Holly, MI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, her father, Charles Brezee, and her mother, Rose Manley, daughter Betty Norris and son Robert Noell. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 15, 2000 at 12:30 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, MI, with Rev. Ron Hutchinson of the Silverwood United Methodist church officiating. Curtis Lee Page, Vassar, age 51, died Friday May 5, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Curtis was born August 7, 1948 in Saginaw the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Louella (Klopf) Page. He and Linda Kretz were united in marriage November 4, 1967 in Saginaw. He was employed at Rochester Gear in Clifford as a C.N.C. operator for the last two years. Curtis enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Mary Lou Palmer, 63, of Caro died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Alma to Earl and Florence (Vodden) Redman. Mary Lou worked as bookkeeping supervisor at Family Independence Agency (formerly Department of Social Services) for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Caro Community Hospital Auxiliary, assisting with many Red Cross blood drives. She was a member of the Colwood United Brethren Church and was secretary for many of the church groups. Mary Lou was a member of the Woman's Missionary Association. She enjoyed doing volunteer work, playing the piano, walking, reading, doing crossword puzzles and being with her grandchildren. Mary Lou is survived by her children, Michael Palmer and his wife, Melinda, of Thornville, Ohio, Michelle Hanby and her husband, Jeff, of Cass City, and Rhonda Gallier and her husband, Scott, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; grandchildren, Devon, Leisha, Rachel and Cassie Palmer, Caleb and Jacob Hanby, and Abigail Collier; her brother, Robert Redman and his wife, Janet, of St. Johns; her sister, Ruth Ann Bradley and her husband, Robert, of Maple Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Colwood United Brethren Church in Caro, with the Rev. Phil Whipple and the Rev. Lee Palmer officiating. Interment was in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Gilbert Lee Parsons, 64, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000 at his home in Kingston, Michigan. He was born on October 16, 1935 in Mt. Carbon, West Virginia, the son of the late Gillie and Minnie (Collins) Parsons. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Hettie Beverly on December 27, 1983. He worked for 13 years at Chevrolet Gear & Axle in Detroit. He moved to this area in 1996 from Detroit. He is survived by his wife, Hettie; three sons, Joe Parsons of Ohio, Keith Lee Parsons of Kingston and Kevin Parsons of Kingston; four daughters, Michelle and Keith Goins of Ohio, Gloria and Donald Parsons of Detroit, Amanda Ann Parsons of Kingston and Victoria Thompson of Clinton Township; five brothers, John, Lloyd, Bill, Fred and Jimmy; five sisters, Emma, Shirley, Ruth, Hazel and Velma; and several grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Tim Rich officiating. Peter Popp Caro Passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. He was 89. He was born February 16, 1911 at Scalp Level, Pennsylvania and came to Caro as a teen. Peter was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWll and involved in the Normandy Beach Invasion. He married the former Mildred Eckstrom on December 5, 1945, in Caro. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1979. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Popp had worked as a house mechanic at the Michigan Sugar Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. He is survived by one daughter, four sons and spouses, Donna Rocheleau of Caro, Allen and Sharron Popp of Mayville, Peter Dennis and Sueann Popp of Indian River, Darrell and Sue Popp of Caro, David Popp of Sebewaing; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Wilkinson of Kingston; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers; one sister; and an infant daughter. Funeral will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Saturday, May 20 at 3 p.m. with Elder Jerry Bernhardt, Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, officiating. John P. Proper Akron Passed away Thursday afternoon at Bay Medical Center, Bay City, after a short illness. He was 78. John was born on January 1, 1922 in Glennie, MI. to Erwin and Gertrude Fergersion Proper. On July 9, 1957 John was united in marriage to Margie Bills in Saginaw. John was self-employed as a roofer and his knowledge and expertise was known throughout the Thumb area. John was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. During the off season, John enjoyed fixing cars, playing the banjo and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Margie; sons, Thomas of Auburn, Gary (Brenda) of Kentucky, John P. Jr. of Akron, Carl (Michelle) of Unionville, Dwain (Donna) of Akron, David of Akron; two daughters, Mary Proper of Fairgrove and Rose (Stephan) Wilding of Akron; one sister, Rose Forshee of South Carolina; 29 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. John was predeceased by one daughter in infancy, Charelene; two brothers, Ersie and Omar; three sisters, Rita, Rachel and Saflora. Norman Albert Rasch, 79, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Unionville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 23, 2000, at the Monroe Regional Hospital, Ocala, Fla. He was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Detroit, son of the late Norman and Alice I. (Davidson) Rasch. On June 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Maxine Mae Raymond in Fraser. Maxine and Norman had been married for more than 59 years. Norman had been a self-employed carpenter in the Unionville area for many years and also for Michigan State University before retiring and moving to Florida in 1985. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Summerfield, Fla. Surviving besides his wife, Maxine, are three daughters and a son: Norma Kemp and her husband, John, Karen Davidson and her husband, Donald Krust, Janet Mitchell and William Rasch; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Dembinksi; and a brother, Edward (Horace) Rasch. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home, Inc., Sebewaing, a Golden Rule Funeral Home. The Rev. Orrie W. Reimann, 93, of Kingston died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. He was born Feb. 7, 1907, in Manistique to William and Florence (Gay) Reimann. He married Dorothy Zeundel on July 7, 1928, in Bad Axe. She died Jan. 6, 1987. He married Reeva Peter on May 14, 1988, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot. Orrie and Dorothy owned and operated Kingston Butter Co. and Kingston Dairy Bar for more than 30 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Orrie proudly served on the Kingston School Board for 18 years and was a member of the Kingston Lion's Club. He was a lapidary and made beautiful stone clocks which he gave to many, many people. He is survived by his wife, Reeva; a daughter, Shirley Sullivan and her husband, Donald, of West Branch; a daughter-in-law, Ann Reimann of Kingston; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfred Reimann and his wife, Vi, of Kinde, and Deward Reimann and his wife, Frieda, of Kinde; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a great-great-granddaughter, Chelsea Gonzalez; brothers Lloyd and Wilfred Reimann; and sisters Leona and Florence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 21, 2000, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot, with the Rev. Harry W. Reinfelder Sr., Vassar age 85 died Monday July 3, 2000 at St. Mary Hospital in Saginaw. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday July 7, 2000 at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Pastor Robert Youmans to officiate. Family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 till the time of service. Harry was born December 4, 1914 in Dayton, Kentucky the son of Mr. & Mrs. Harry and Flora Reinfelder I. He served with U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1941-1945 in that time he received the Purple Heart. He was a Union Organizer with the United Mine Workers District 50 from 1945-1968, becoming one of the original 5 directors under John L. Lewis. He then changed careers and became a State Labor Mediator with the State of Michigan from 1968-1983 he retired in 1983. Harry was an avid fly fisherman and loved fishing from Florida to the upper peninsula of Michigan. He was also a member of the Elks and V.F. W. Survivors wife: Catherine; 2 sons: Harry and wife Nancy Reinfelder Jr. of Pickford, MI.; Frederick and wife Antoinette Reinfelder of Vassar, MI.; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents and sister Vinnette Trappe.


Donald E. Richards Fairgrove Died Thursday, May 25, 2000 at Bay Medical Center. He was 76. Donald was born April 5, 1924 in Merritt Township, the son of Julius and Mary (Schillair) Richards. He and Evelyn Spencer were united in marriage September 19, 1944. She preceded him in death May 19, 1995. Donald liked going to rummage sales and was a collector of interesting items, especially teapots. Surviving are four sisters, Sylvia and husband Everett Osantowski and Eleanor Eigner, all of Fairgrove, and Marie Chamberlain of Bay City; six brothers, Harvey and wife Hazel Richards of Mikado, Edward Richards of Freeland, Roy Richards of Vassar, Delbert and wife Joann Richards of Fairgrove, Virgil and wife Clarice Richards of Bay City, Julius Jr. and wife Beverly Richards of Vassar; adopted son, Richard; many nieces and nephews; special friend Mary Gwisdala of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Evelyn; two infant daughters; brother, Ervin, and baby brother Lawrence. June E. Rogers, of Vassar died Friday, September 22, 2000 at her residence. She was 81 years of age. Mrs. Rogers was born in Bad Axe, Michigan May 27, 1919 the daughter of Peter and Natalie Sinclair. On April 25, 1943 she married Paul J. Rogers. He preceded her in death in 1985. Together they shared 42 years of marriage. She was a graduate of Bad Axe High, class of 1936 and a graduate of Baker Business University, class of 1938. She was a member of Vassar First United Methodist Church and also volunteered for many area organizations such as Saginaw General Hospital, Vassar Community Education, Vassar Petunia Drive, Vassar Food Pantry and the Crop Walk. She enjoyed numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, cross country skiing, swimming and golf. Surviving are her children, David Paul and Paris Rogers, Ann Elizabeth Oprea and Robert Reynolds, all of Vassar, Lori Sue Rogers and Scott Bellinger of Mt. Pleasant, Lisa Marie Rogers of Marquette, Michigan; three grandchildren, Christopher, Heather, and Paul Rogers; brother-in-law, Richard Rogers and sister-in-law, Veronica Rogers, both of Bad Axe; as well as her many special friends. Iola Ross, 80, of Caro died Saturday, July 22, 2000, in her home. She was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Caro to Russell and Gertie (Avery) Curry. She married Richard L. Ross July 26, 1941, in Akron. He died April 25, 1995. Iola attended County Normal and taught school for several years before having children. She was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church, Naomi Circle, Domino Club and Knitting Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and gardening. Iola is survived by her children: Jane Ross and her husband, Jon Christiano, of Essex Junction, Vt., Judy Ross (Arnold Leesy) of Lexington, Richard Ross of Caro; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a stepsister, Opal Hunter of Mayville; a sister-in-law, Emma Ross; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Curry and Ethel Seddon; and a brother, John Curry. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Kingston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Margaret Passenger officiating. Evelyn Caroline Ruby, 75, of Kingston passed away Wednesday Sept. 6, 2000, at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor where she received very loving care for several days. Evelyn was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Sigel Township, Huron County, the daughter of Matilda and William Schuman. She married William (Jack) Ruby on July 28, 1945, in Bad Axe. She was a member of the Lutheran church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and feeding birds, and looked forward to the hummingbirds returning every spring. Nurturing her family provided great pleasure for Evelyn. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Gary Ruby and his wife, Thersesa, of Rochester Hills, and James Ruby and his wife, Dorothy, of Marlette; two brothers, Harold Schuman and his wife, Betty, and Donald Schuman and his wife, Arvilla, all of Bad Axe; one step-grandson, Jason Schlueter; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Ray Sting, representing the Lutheran Brotherhood, officiating. Julia H. Sanchez, 81, of Cass City died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. She was born March 19, 1919, in Toledo, Ohio, to John and Mary (Gumbos) Sanders. She married Clarence Nordquist in the Novesta Church of Christ in 1943. She married Manuel Sanchez in Wakefield on Dec. 31, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1982. Julia was a very spiritual woman. Her love for God allowed her to transcend love and to share this with her family and each person that she met. Julia also was a very generous person. She enjoyed sharing her love of gardening, canning and cooking with her specialty being apple pie. Julia is survived by her son, David Nordquist and his wife, Peggy, of Cass City; daughter Rosemary Ryals and her husband, Tom, of Homosassa Spring, Fla.; granddaughters, Lauren M., Nicole L., and Jeanne R. Coy, all of Homosassa Spring, Fla.; grandsons, Blair Michael Coy of Clearwater, Fla., and Christopher McConnell and his wife, Melissa, of Cass City; great-granddaughter, Rianna Fay McConnell; son-in-law, Nelson Blair Coy of Clearwater, Fla.; stepdaughters, JoAnn Izydorek and her husband, Chuck, of Cass City, Edith Wayman and her husband, Eric, of Decker; stepson, Roy Lee Hull and his wife, Joan, of Decker; dearest friend, Kurt Romisch of Sault Ste. Laura M. Schlemmer, 101, of Unionville passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Caro on May 25, 1899, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Charlotte (Santowsky) Witkovsky. She was married to Walter C. Keller in Detroit on Jan. 30, 1924. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1965. She was united in marriage to Aaron J. Schlemmer in Sebewaing on Jan. 17, 1970. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1978. Mrs. Schlemmer was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Friday Bible class since Jan. 19, 1967, and was also a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League. She is survived by four cousins, Marilyn Scheller and her husband, Ed, of Eastpointe, Lois Geppert and her husband, Gerald, of Port Austin, Doris Marcott and her husband, Arthur, of Gaylord and Duane Witkovsky of Caro. She was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda Hagen; two brothers, Arthur Witt and infant Leonard. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, with the Rev Charles Kuhl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Marcia Ann Schnell, Vassar, age 61, passed away, Monday September 4, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Marcia Ann Yeager was born October 8, 1938 in Bay City, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clifford and Marion(Robinson) Yeager. She was married to Eugene Schnell on June 3, 1961. Marcia had been employed at the Bavarian Inn of Frankenmuth. She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Surviving besides her husband, are two sons and their wives: Michael and Carol Schnell of Vassar, Clifford and Kris(Beyerlein) Schnell of Vassar; four grandchildren: Chad and Jason Schnell, Zachary and Stephanie Weiss; a sister and brother in law: Sandra and Fritz Sommer of Munger; a step brother: Jim Carr of Suttons Bay; step mother and step father: Emmet and Dorothy Bates of Houghton Lake; mother in law: Edna Schnell of Vassar; brother in law: Ronald Schnell of Vassar. She was predeceased by her parents: Clifford and Marion Yeager; and a sister in law: Sally Schnell. Marcia enjoyed camping, ceramics, wood-carving, painting, gardening and her grandchildren. Merle Schott, of Vassar died Saturday, September 23, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She was 86 years of age. Mrs. Schott was born in Detroit on July 10, 1914 the daughter of Ernest and Marvel Engle. On July 10, 1936 she married Arthur Schott. Together they shared 64 years of marriage. She has been a Vassar resident for the past 55 years and a member of the Vassar First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Art Schott of Vassar; one son, Robert Schott of Caro; two granddaughters, Jamie and Susan; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Mussnig of Mayville and June Griffon of Caro; as well as her extended family. The family has honored her wishes and cremation has taken place at Mrs. Schott's request. Memorials may be directed to the Vassar First Baptist Church. Oscar T. Seeley, 85, of Cass City died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. He is survived by his children: Joan Ware and her husband, James, of Cass City, Betty L. Watson of Caro, Joyce Hornbacher and her husband, Gary, of Rio Rico, Ariz., Wayne Seeley and his wife, Laurie, of Kawkawlin and Ronald Seeley and his wife, Jean, of Unionville; 12 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; his sisters, Aileen Price and her husband, Ralph, of Caro, Nellie Anthes of Cass City; a brother, Alfred Seeley and his wife, Donna, of Cass City; and many nieces and nephews. Emma A. Shetler, 94, of Pigeon passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. She was born on Jan. 12, 1906, in Winsor Township, the daughter of the late Jacob and Veronica (Ropp) Albrecht. On June 25, 1923, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Shetler in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1973. From 1945 to 1969, Mrs. Shetler and her husband owned and operated the Shetler Quality Furniture and Funeral Director business in Pigeon, which was later known as the Shetler Funeral Home. From 1972 to 1974, she operated the switchboard at Scheurer Hospital. Mrs. Shetler was an avid china painter and also enjoyed embroidery. She was a member of the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Her survivors include a daughter, Genevieve McIlhargie and her husband, William, of Port Austin; a son, Dale Shetler and his wife, Nonie, of Fairview; six grandchildren, Beverly Are'valo of California, Daryl McIlhargie and his wife, Shelly, of New Mexico, Dawn McIlhargie of Florida, Terry Shetler and his wife, Joanne, of Bay Port, Brenda Foncannon of Colorado, and Theresa Swartzendruber and her husband, Terry, of Bay Port; eight great-grandchildren, Miles and Meghan McIlhargie, Brandon and Jason Shetler, Michael and Jerad Foncannon, and Joshua and Kerri Swartzendruber; and several nieces and nephews. Lawrence J. Smith, 85, of Cass City died Monday, July 31, 2000, in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Caro to Charles and Myrtle (Cross) Smith. He married Dorothy Pauline Hagerman on Sept. 28, 1941, in Carson City. She died Feb. 9, 1992. Lawrence farmed, worked for Tuckey Block Co., C.R. Hunt Construction, helped build houses and was a truck driver. He was a member of Colwood United Brethren Church. He enjoyed building dog houses and woodworking. Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Lorraine "Lori" Puskas and her husband, Donald, of Howard City; grandchildren Mirenda, Elizabeth, Joshua and Timothy Puskas; two brothers, Charles Smith and his wife, Jessie, of Flint, and Robert Smith and his wife, Isabelle, of Vassar; two sisters, Donna Parker of Cass City and Elaine Watson and her husband, Ben, of Caro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brothers, Harland and Alger Smith; and sisters, Leona Sharp, Marguerite Huntley, Geraldine Carpenter, Venetta Montei and Arletta Smith. Walter Stec, 69, of Caro, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Cartwright Center, Saginaw, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on June 16, 1930, in Bad Axe, and married the former Bernetta Finkel on June 7, 1952. Walter served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 12, 1953, until Nov. 2, 1954, with an honorable discharge. He was a sergeant and received several medals during his tour in Korea: the Korean Service Ribbon with one bronze service star, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Walter was employed at Malleable Iron for 25 years, retiring in May 1992. He had many hobbies and interests. Among them were hunting, fishing, gardening, playing the guitar and singing country music. He was a member of Caro Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3587. Our beloved Walter will be greatly missed. Eleanor J. Steffen, 73, of Caseville, formerly of Caro, passed away on Sunday, May 7,2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born on Oct. 29, 1926, in Caro and lived all her life in the Thumb of Michigan. She was a graduate of Caro High School. The former Eleanor June Roblin married Lewis Steffen on May 10, 1947, in Caro. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1983. She spent all her working career in clerical work for Osgerby Insurance, Maiers Motor Freight, and then, until her retirement, at the Caro Regional Center. She loved people, Las Vegas, playing pool and cards, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 940 and Serta, the Michigan State Employees Club. She is survived by two sisters; Dorothy Campbell and her husband, Herbert, of Custer, and Gladys Schuch and her husband, Frank, of Charlevoix; a brother, William Roblin and his wife, Charlotte, of Caro; special friends, George Sulla of Caseville and Clara and Walt Halabis of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois, in 1949; and two sisters, Leona Roblin and Helen Klea. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Collon Funeral Home in Caro with the Rev. Duane Miller of the Caro United Methodist Church officiating. Hallie and Quintin Swift ,Our hearts are broken, our arms are empty. Our sons, Hallie Swift and Quintin Dean Swift were born Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2000. Hallie died later that day and Quintin D. died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston with the Rev. Agnes Sylvester, Vassar, Michigan died Tuesday May 23, 2000 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City. Agnes was born December 8, 1912 in River Rouge, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Malena (Delisle) Cheff. She was married to Daniel F. Sylvester who preceded her in death in 1972. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar and its Altar Society. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse for 28 years at the Caro State Hospital. She is survived by son: Tom & Bernice Sylvester of Vassar; Daughter: Joanne and Lloyd Ilack of Millington; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; Brother: Leo Cheff of Alabama; Brother: Norman and Doris Cheff of Vassar; Sister: Rita Grove of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Tim, and sisters Marie and Leona. There will be no visitation or funeral service. As per her request cremation has taken place. Burial of Cremains will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

Milford "Mike" Donald Taylor, age 73, of Vassar, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at the Covenant Harrison in Saginaw. Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 - 9pm. Mike was born January 25, 1927 in Millington the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Eugene and Gertrude (Minore) Taylor. He and Marilyn Harrison were united in marriage December 6, 1958. He was a veteran serving in WWII with the U.S. Army 82nd airborne in Germany. He was also a member of Moose Lodge # 2235 in Harrison, MI. Mike retired in January 1988 from Maier's Motor Freight, where he worked as a supervisor with 33 years of service. Surviving are his wife Marilyn; 3 children: Terry and wife Wendy Taylor of Tifton Georgia; Kevin and wife Cindy Taylor of Vassar; Kathy Taylor of Vassar; son-in-law Eugene "Butch" Waibel of Bay City; 7 grandchildren: Brandi, Dustin, twins Ashley and Erica, Samantha, Jason and Heather; brother: Don & wife Kay Taylor of Lake Orion; sister: Betty Keating of South Pasadena, FL; Several nieces and nephews. James E. Thompson, of Reed City died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Mecosta County General Hospital in Big Rapids. He was 71. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 8, 1928 in Hersey and was a 1946 graduate of Big Rapids High School. He married Roma McInnis Nov. 7, 1952. She survives. Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post No. 2964 in Reed City. He was employed at J.C. Penney for more than 31 years managing stores in Big Rapids, Niles, South Bend, Ind., Ann Arbor and Caro, retiring in 1978. He then embarked on a second career with Color Tile Supermarket and managed outlets in Ft. Worth, Texas and Flint until 1993. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge F & AM of Caro and Scottish Rite Temple of Bay City. Survivors include his son, Bradley (Lynette) Thompson of Caro; daughters, Janet (Robert) Fulton II of Caro, Angela (John) Hornbeck of Ossineke; and six grandchildren. Ward A. Tinsey, 98, of Caro and formerly of Bad Axe, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 25, 1901, in Port Hope. He was the son of the late Phillip and Ida (Zabelle) Tinsey. He attended the eighth grade at the Redman Rural School. Mr. Ward Tinsey and Miss Beatrice Bishop were married on Oct. 17, 1922, in Kinde. They were married some 76 years before she died on June 12, 1999. Ward worked for 30 years for Brown's Creamery as a milkman, then became an independent, owning his own route called Twin Pines. He loved baseball and especially was a Red Wings hockey fan. Surviving are his son, Philip Tinsey and his wife, June, of Caseville; his daughter, Marilyn Heck and her husband, Lester, of Warren; six grandchildren, Phillip Brent Tinsey and his wife, Joanie, Richard Ward Tinsey and his wife, Dawn, Janice Mary Bemben and her husband, Dennis, William Lester Heck and his wife, Ellen, Gail Kathleen Michling and her husband, Alan, and Andrea Lynn Heck; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Melborn, William, Fred and Henry Tinsey; and two sisters, Irene Storbeck and Ann Reid. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, April 24, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, with the Rev. Michael Quayle officiating. Burial will follow in the Colfax Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Michigan Leader Dogs for the Blind or to the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility for the aviary.


Verna M. Trisch Caro Passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at her residence. She was 77. She was born on June 9, 1923, at Bay City. The former Verna Buerkel married Jack Trisch on December 3, 1944, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Frankenlust Township, Bay County. Since the time of her marriage, she had been a resident of Fairgrove Township. In addition to homemaking, she was a partner with her husband in the operation of Victor Drag Company. She was a loving mother and wife, as well as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild. She is survived by her husband, Jack Trisch; one daughter, one son and spouses, Carol and Gerald Mathewson of Caro, Victor and Jean Trisch of Caro; seven grandchildren, Tamara and Randy Reis of Reese, William Ashbreck of Rochester, John Ashbreck of Caro, Matthew and Lori Trisch of Owosso, Kristin Trisch of Rochester, Minnesota, Shane Trisch of Akron, Sandy Marker of Fairgrove; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Leeah Grace Reis of Reese; sister-in-law, Marion Buerkel of Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Trisch; one son-in-law, Garry Ashbreck; five brothers, George, John, Fred, Clarence and Herman Buerkel; and four sisters, Katherine Schurter, Barbara Hahn, Lorina Behmlander and Mary Long. Funeral service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Saturday, September 30 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Hollender officiating. Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Mildred Elizabeth Van Horn, 93, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Marlette Community Hospital. She was born on February 17, 1907 in Grand Rapids to Ralph E. and Cora M. (Albright) Jones. She married Leland H. Van Horn on December 28, 1925 in Kingston. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1988. She was a member of the Kingston Wesleyan Church and WWI Missionary Group. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She farmed with her husband for many years on Denhoff Road. She worked for several years for General Motors in the cafeteria. She served on the Koylton Township election board and worked part time at McKenny Grocery Store. She is survived by her nephews, Robert Schons of Bonita Springs, FL. and Walter Parrott of Indianapolis, IN.; special friends, Arnold and Cora Moore of Kingston, Edna Rodenbo of Kingston, Katherine Baber of Durand; and many other friends. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie Bellmore, Thelma Aiken and Hilda Hoop; and one brother, Earl Jones. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kingston Wesleyan Church with Dr. Rudyard Fay officiating. Memorials may be made to the Kingston Wesleyan Church. Mary Vargo, 94, of Cass City died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown, with the Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Joan Maher officiating. Interment will be in the Elkland Township Cemetery. Raymond Vodden, of Vassar, died Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Saginaw. He was 86 years of age. Mr. Vodden was born January 2, 1914 in Detroit and was the son of Evelyn Vodden. He lived most of his life in Vassar. On October 10, 1954 he married Esther Goodman. She preceded him in death in September of 1987. Mr. Vodden was a member of the Vassar Nazarene Church for 71 years. With his wife, he owned and operated the "Little Record Shop," a music store in downtown Vassar and also Reichle's Clothing Store. He was also employed as a janitor for various businesses and worked for a short time at Eaton Foundry (Grede's) in Vassar. He loved to talk on his C.B. and his handle was "Sneaky Pete." Surviving are many cousins, extended family and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at the Vassar Nazarene Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Susan K. Wark Millington Passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at Bay Medical Center. She was born on June 29, 1959 at Bay City and was a 1978 Pinconning High School graduate. She worked for the last 22 years as an adult foster care aide. Susan lived in Arenac, Bay and Tuscola counties. She dearly loved using the telephone. In the past she enjoyed ceramics and loved the Christmas holiday more than most. She is survived by her father and his wife, Ron and June Wark of Caro; three brothers, one sister and spouses, Michael Wark of Sonoma, California, Cathy and Robert Collier of Fairgrove, Keith and Becky Londry of Bay City, Kevin and Sally Londry of Caro; several nieces and nephews; a very special aunt, Maxine Harley Martin of Bay City; many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as her many friends at Jensen House in Millington; her beloved dog, Gina. She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Londry and a brother, Steven Wark. Funeral service will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Gary D. Wilson, of Millington died suddenly on Saturday, April 22, 2000 in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. He was 55 years of age. Born in Bay City on March 24, 1945 he was the son of Donald and Maxine (Osentowski) Wilson. He was a resident of Millington since 1972 when he moved from Fairgrove. Mr. Wilson graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School and attended Mott College in Flint for two years. He was employed with Buick Motor Division where he was a Journeyman-Skilled Trades for over 30 years. He also enjoyed farming and loved flying as a hobby. On November 26, 1978 he married Marcia Ward. Together they celebrated 21 years of marriage. Mr. Wilson is survived by three children and their spouses, Kim and Darren Williams of Waterford, Michael Gary and Jacqueline Wilson of Fenton, Steven Brian Wilson of Shelby Township; two granddaughters, Madison Maria and MacKenzie Meika; his parents Donald and Maxine Wilson of Fairgrove; brothers and sisters Kenny and Kathy Wilson of Fairgrove, Janice Anklam of Reese, Randy and Nancy Wilson of Hartland, and several nieces and nephews. Marcia Kay Wilson, of Millington died suddenly on Saturday, April 22, 2000 in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. She was 53 years of age. Born in Flint on November 25, 1946 she was the daughter of Lyle and Lilly Ward. On November 26, 1978 she married Gary D. Wilson. Together they shared 21 years of marriage. Mrs. Wilson had over 25 years experience with General Motors in Flint and Saginaw. Surviving is her family; father, Kyle Ward of Clio; a half-sister and husband, Diane and Jerry LeMay, two nieces, Teresa Spicer of Savannah, Georgia, Julia Harding of Newport News, Virginia, a great-nephew, Justin Spicer; step-children and their spouses, Kim and Darren Williams of Waterford, Michael Gary and Jacqueline Wilson of Fenton, Steven Brian Wilson of Shelby Township, two step-granddaughters, Madison Marie and MacKenzie Meike. Juanita E. Withey, 80, of Caseville died Thursday evening, Nov. 30, 2000, at Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City. She was born on May 28, 1920, at the home of her parents, Farmer and Louella (Long) Rice in Oilsprings, Ky. On Oct. 28, 1939, she was married to Fred Withey in Ohio. They moved from Cass City to Caseville after retiring. Juanita was a homemaker all her married life. She was a very active member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Cass City. She especially enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Surviving are her husband, Fred, of Caseville; her son, Francis Withey and his wife, Mary, of Cass City; two grandsons, Patrick and his wife, Dena, of Caseville and Michael and his wife, Jamie, of Cass City; and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Allyson and Hannah. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Interment will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.


Harold Firman Woverton, age 66, of Fairgrove died Thursday February 24, 2000 at his home. Funeral Services will be held Monday February 28, 2000 at 11:00 am from the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove. Friends may call at the funeral home where family will receive friends from 6 - 9 pm Saturday and all day Sunday. Sunday evening, Fairgrove VFW Post #7486 will assemble for memorial services at 7:30 pm. Mr. Wolverton was born November 24, 1933 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. & Mrs. Firman Stephen & Maggie Sarah (Hunter) Wolverton. He and Kathleen Ann Maupin were united in marriage June 10, 1966. He was a veteran on the Korean War serving with the US Army Infantry. A life member of Akron-Fairgrove Post #7486 and American Legion Reese Post. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed Michigan hunting. Mr. Wolverton was also a member of Local #17 I.B.E.W. He retired in 1996 from I.B.E.W with 29 years service. Surviving are: Wife: Kathleen; Daughter: Catherine Marie Cogo & husband Charles of Canton; Son: Brian Firman Wolverton and Michelle of Pontiac; 2 Grandchildren: Stephanie Marie Cogo; Jessica Lee Cogo; Sister: Frances Morris of St. Clair Shores; Twin Brother: Donald Hunter Wolverton and wife Dolores of Reese; Several Nieces and Nephews. Richard Henry Wright, 67, of Deford died suddenly Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Brown City to Charles A. and Elizabeth (Aune) Wright. He first married Patricia Gruber in Cass City. She died Sept. 30, 1985. He then married Janet Klinkman McGuire on Sept. 6, 1986. Richard served in the U.S. Army in the 1950's in Korea. Dick was employed by Walbro Corp. and worked at General Motors as an electrician. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and golf. Dick is survived by his wife, Janet; children Rodney Wright and his wife, Danean, of Cass City, Sherri Schulz and her husband, Werner, Jr., of Sebewaing, Dale Wright and his wife, Arlene, of Cass City, and Irene Holtslander and her husband, Tom, of Alaska; brothers and sisters, Charles Wright and his wife, Geraldine, of Lincoln Park, Gladys Jones of Houston, Texas, Sharon Guinther of Caro, Dalbert Wright and his wife, Nancy, of Cass City, John Wright and his wife, Louise, of Cass City, Darlene Peters of St. Louis, Katherine McPhail and her husband, Robert, of Cass City, Caroll Benjamin and her husband, William, of Woodlawn, Tenn, and Phillip Wright and his wife, Shirley, of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandchildren Kevin and Jennifer Spencer, Jason, Nicole, Amber and Andrew Wright, Michael and Kayla Wright, and Holly, Tracy, Tom and Jamie Holtslander; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin C. (Clunker) Yonke, 79, longtime Unionville farmer and owner of Ed's Bar, died Tuesday morning, March 21, 2000, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Unionville, son of the late Edward and Regina Yonke. He was united in marriage to Virginia Hessler in 1982 in Unionville. Ed farmed in the Unionville area for many years and owned and operated Ed's Bar for 45 years before retiring two years ago due to ill health. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. He also was an avid woodworker. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Yonke, of Unionville; stepchildren, Bruce and Pam Hessler of Mount Clemens, Burt Hessler of Unionville, Bryan and Karen Hessler of Warren, Robert and Cheryl Hessler of Clarkston, Victoria and Joseph Trischler of Akron, Brett and Sigi Hessler of West Germany, Kathy Hudson of Pigeon, and Barry Marshall of Frankenmuth; 15 step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; a brother, William Yonke and his wife, Nona, of Unionville; two nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. The Rev. Alton J. Young, 89, of Cass City died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Tendercare Nursing Facility. He was born on May 15, 1910, in Grant Township to Joseph and Myrtle (Andrews) Young. He married Elva Heron on Nov. 27, 1935, in Lapeer. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1970. Mr. Young attended Sharred Country School and graduate from Owendale High School. He attended Michigan Agriculture College. He played drums for several Thumb area dance bands. He did television and radio repair and later worked as a mechanic for Nicol Motor Sales in Marlette for several years. Alton enjoyed fishing and loved to tell and hear a good joke. He grew a large garden with beautiful berries. Alton is survived by his daughter, Harriet Peters and her husband, Larry, of Cass City; sister-in-law, Madelyn Rawlings, of Ortonville; several nieces and nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Leota Ashmore and Norma Parrish. A private graveside service will be conducted in the spring in Elkland Township Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Tendercare Activities.

Clark F. Zinnecker, 87, of Cass City, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, June 17, 2000 at his son's home in Deford. He was born July 3, 1912 in Cass City to William and Lillian (Wallace) Zinnecker. He married Hazel S. Pringle on Sept. 1, 1938 in Detroit. Clark was a farmer. He also worked at Detroit Diesel in Detroit, the hardware and lumber yard in Deford, and Forbes Redi-Mix and Lumber in Caro. He retired from the Caro State Hospital in Wahjamega after 10 years. Clark and Hazel lived in Sorrento, Fla. from 1979 to 1995, and in Haselton Village, Eustis, Fla. from 1995 to 1999. Clark was a member of Novesta Church of Christ and then First Church of Christ in Eustis. Clark is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Grant and his wife, Donna, of Wilson, Wyo., and Ralph and his wife, Patricia, of Deford; granddaughters, Melissa Newland and her husband, Greg, of Caro, and Karla Zinnecker of Saginaw; sisters-in-law, Helen Zinnecker of Fremont, and Iva Field of Deford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Wallace, Carl and Park Zinnecker. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at Novesta Church of Christ, with Steve Randall of Harris Prairie Church of Christ, South Bend, Ind., officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Pallbearers for Mr. Zinnecker will be his family. Hazel S. Zinnecker, 82, of Cass City died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in her home. She was born May 16, 1919, in Deford to John and Goldia (Cook) Pringle. She married Clark F. Zinnecker on Sept. 1, 1938, in Detroit. He died June 17, 2000. Hazel at one time worked for Agnes McPhail. Hazel sold Tupperware and Avon in the Cass City area for over 11 years before retiring to Florida. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and for her 60th wedding anniversary in 1998, she decorated the party hall with quilts. Hazel and Clark lived in Sorrento, Fla., from 1979 to 1995 and in Haselton Village, Eustis, Fla., from 1995 to 1999. Hazel was a member of the Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City, and a 20-year member of the First Church of Christ in Eustis, Fla. Hazel is survived by her sons, Grant Zinnecker and his wife, Donna, of Wilson, W.V., and Ralph Zinnecker and his wife, Patricia of Deford; granddaughters, Melissa Newland and her husband, Greg, of Caro and Karla Zinnecker of Cass City; a sister, Iva Field; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Grant Pringle. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City, with Chuck Emmert officiating. Interment will be in the Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Zinnecker will be her family. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City, and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
