Leland R. Ackerman, Mayville, Age 82, died Thursday, July 8, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. Mr. Ackerman was born November 27, 1916 in Juniata Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Maude (Frizzle) Ackerman. He and Arlene Hewlett were united in marriage on May 30, 1940 in Lakeview, Michigan. Mr. Ackerman retired from Grede Foundry in Vassar as a shell molder after 18 years of service. Mr. Ackerman was a member of Juniata Baptist Church. He enjoyed country music and farming. His family always came first in his life. Left to cherish his memory are wife: Arlene; son: Theodore and wife Althea Ackerman of Mayville; daughter: Diane Ackerman of Mayville; grandchildren Christy and husband Dave Rayl of Caro; Leland Ackerman of Mayville; brother and sisters: William and wife Alice Ackerman of Vassar; Elizabeth and husband Fred Enos of Caro; Elnora and husband Carl Brock of Caro; Margaret and husband Bob Schemm of Richville; numerous nieces and nephews. Donald Milton Adams, age 76, of Fairgrove died Wednesday January 6, 1999 at Bay Medical Cntr. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday from Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mr. Walter David officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery with Military Honors by Fairgrove VFW Post #7486. Family will be present at the Martin Funeral Home, Clark Chapel- Fairgrove to receive friends 3-5 and 7-9pm Friday. Friday evening the Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 will assemble at the funeral home for a Masonic memorial at 7:30pm. Saturday morning Mr. Adams will be taken to church to lie in state from 10am until time of services at 11am. Lisa A. Allen, Richville, age 35 died Wednesday December 9, 1998 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was born in Saginaw August 18, 1963 and lived in Richville her entire life. She was a member of St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Richville. She is survived by her parents Arnold and Sally Allen of Richville. Brother: Arnold and wife Cindy Allen Jr. of Richville; Sister: Laurie Revesz of Vassar; also several nieces and nephews. Athern M. Archer, age 81, of Millington died December 24, 1999 at home. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Monday December 27, 1999 from Miles Martin Funeral Home. Lauren Bader, age 92 of Clio-Mt. Morris died Thursday July 29, 1999 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday from Miles Martin Funeral Home with Rev. She preceded him in death July 1, 1994. Lauren owned and operated Bader Well Drilling from 1944 until his retirement in 1972. Prior to operating his business he was employed with Buick Motor Division as an electrician. He was a member of Mt. Morris Senior Citizens where he enjoyed playing cards. His great enjoyment came while with his family. Raymond and Annie Franko were united in marriage on November 24, 1939 in Reese, MI. He was a veteran of WWII serving 1944-1945 with CO 1, 306th Infantry in Okinawa, Shima, Leyte Kerama Rhetto. He received 4 Bronze Battle Stars on his Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and one on the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds received on Okinawa May 4, 1945. He and 4 brothers served in the military during WWII. Before military service, he worked for Eaton Foundry as production worker for approximately 6 years. When he returned home from the army he bought a farm where he worked until 1962. Raymond enjoyed flowers, gardening and hunting. A resident of Richmond, Va.,having moved there from Reece, Mich., Howard was a business manager for the Reece Public Schools for 25 years prior to retirement.He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II.He was a member of the Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond and the Reece Rotarian Club of Reece. Lena Mae Barrons, age 91, of Watrousville, died Monday, June 14, 1999 at Bay Special Care Center. Mrs. Barrons was born April 3, 1908 in Kingston, MI, the daughter of Charles and Margeurita (Hunt) Tedford. She married Ernest Barrons, who preceded her in death November 1988. Mrs. Barrons was a member of Watrousville Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Club, Mother's Club of Watrousville, Senior Club of Caro and 4-H leader for many years. Earl T. Bates, of Benbrook, Texas, died on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 77 years of age. Surviving are his wife, Harper Bates of Benbrook; a daughter, Brenda and Lamar Avery of Forth Worth, Texas; brothers, Bob Bates of Cleveland, Ohio, Grant Bates of Vassar, and Don Bates of Miami, Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret Holiday of Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Kristy Carleton and Brent Carleton, both of Fort Worth, and Jennifer Reid of Petersburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews in the Vassar area. Maverick Dylan and Maguire Devon Bennett, twins of Mayville, were stillborn on Friday, February 5, 1999 at the Lapeer Regional Hospital in Lapeer. They are survived by their parents, Matthew and Deana Bennett of Mayville; brothers, Dawon, 3, and Dallas, 1; grandparents, David and Diane Tompkins of Fostoria and Lawson and Alma Bennett of Mayville; great grandparents, Elmer and Verona Smith of Silverwood, Wayne and Donna Tompkins of Tawas City, Marjorie and the late Douglas Bennett of Mayville, and Harry and Lucille Redman of Mayville; aunts and uncles, Denise Tompkins and fiance Billy Raulson of Silverwood, Debra and Robert Burns of Vassar, Darlene and Timothy Taylor of Fostoria, Darci Tompkins of Fostoria and David Bennett of Mayville; and many other relatives. Enid Anna Billings, of Vassar, died on Thursday, April 8, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was 86 years of age. Surviving are four children; Delores McGill of Vassar, Floyd and Thelma Holley of Vassar, Gary and Judy Threehouse of Unionville, and Fern Owen of Caro; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Seiden of Florida; and a brother, Waldo and Della Schram of Waterford. Nelson Briggs, died Saturday February 27,1999 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas. Age 83, he was born May 18, 1915 in Vassar and had resided in the Mayville - Vassar area most of his life. He married Josephine K. Plane November 16, 1934. Prior to his retirement he had been engaged in farming and had also been a milk hauler for many years. He is survived by his wife Josephine; 1 Son and 2 Daughters: Marvin and wife Karen Briggs of National City; Bonnie and husband Stuart Thorton; Diane and husband Raymond TerBush; 14 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; 3 Brothers: Wesley Briggs of Millington; Carl Briggs of Houghtan Lake; and Robert Briggs of Flint. He was preceded in death by a Son Garry Briggs, 2 Sisters: Madeline and Ruth, and 4 Brothers: Harold , Raymond, Clark and Ron. Damon Nelson Brink, age 67, formerly of Akron, died Wednesday September 23, 1998 at his home in Cape Coral, Florida. A native of Akron, Michigan, Mr. Brink had been a resident of Cape Coral since 1986. He was the former owner of The Black Dahlia in Akron and he owned and operated his own Farm for over 30 years. Survivors include his four sons: Drew (Jennifer) Brink, Cape Coral, FL, Scott (Marilyn) Brink, Beaverton, Michigan, Chris (Lori) Brink, Springhill, Tennessee, and John Brink Charlotte, Michigan. Two daughters: Diane (Sidney) Long, Charlotte, Michigan, and Melissa (Dean) Bevacqua, St. Clair Shores, Michigan, One brother Duane Brink, Punta Gorda, FL, Two sisters: Sharon Williams, Wilmington, Ohio and Lois (Felix) Finian, Saginaw, Michigan. Also surviving are nine grand children and one great grandchild. Doris Joan Buchinger "Trinklein - Krick", Birch Run, age 60, died Wednesday, January 13, 1999 at St. Mary Hospital in Saginaw. Mrs. Buchinger was born October 21, 1938 in Birch Run the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf A. and Angeline B. (Ranke) Trinklein. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Vassar and worked as a waitress at Zehnders in Frankenmuth for 34 years. Surviving are 3 daughters, Judy and husband Al Pashby of Birch Run; Mary and husband Brian Bauer of Chesterfield, and Karen and husband Rick Fisher Jr. of Vassar; 7 grandchildren, Tiffany, Christine and Donovan Pashby, Joshua and Katie Bauer, and Richard III and Zack Fisher; very special friend Dick Fisher Sr. She was preceded in death by husband Don Buchinger. Kenneth Lee Burrows, of Vassar Township, age 65, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at St. Mary Hospital in Saginaw. Born March 4, 1933 in Lapeer the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Alice Burrows. He and Ruth Fulsher were united in marriage on December 6, 1985 in Bay City. Mr. Burrows retired from Universal Engineering in Frankenmuth in 1987 for the shipping department after 38 years of service. He enjoyed watching baseball and going to the movies. Amelia "Dell" Bustamante, 90, of Alpena, formerly of Cass City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at home. Born Amelia Thomaszewski on Oct. 24, 1908 in Manistee, she married Joseph Bustamante. He preceded her in death in 1960. She was a member of the Garden Club and Doll Club. She is survived by two sons, Anthony and his wife, Cecile, of Sterling Heights, and Michael and his wife, Nancy, of Sterling Heights; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Earl) Sageman of Elkton and Barbara (Mrs. Ed) Retherford of Alpena; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Bustamante; 32 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death in 1997 was a son, Joseph. Arrangements were handled by Bannan Funeral Home. A memorial Mass took place Oct. 1, 1999, at SS. Cyril and Methodius in Sterling Heights. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
Dorothy E. Campbell, Vassar, died Monday, July 12, 1999 at St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw. Age, 79. Mrs. Campbell was born June 21, 1920 in Flint the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Amelia (Arnst) Meinecke. She and Herbert Heidenberger were united in marriage November 19, 1938. He preceded her in death December 28, 1968. On October 1971 she married Douglas Campbell who preceded her in death in 1995. She had several foster children before she and Herbert adopted Eugene, James, Nancy and Kenneth. Mrs. Campbell enjoyed making rugs on her loom, sewing, crafts, flowers and gardening. She was employed by Byron Roth Turkey Farm until they closed. Retired form Vassar Manufacturing after 15 years of service. Nancy J. Campbell, of Millington, died on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at the Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. She was 60 years of age. Doris M. Carrington, of Vassar died on Thursday, April 15, 1999 at the Frankenmuth Care Center. She was 77 years of age. Surviving is one daughter, Kathy Windsor of Bremon, Indiana; one son, Bernard Killin of Vassar; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Robert M. Cartwright, 79, of Unionville passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 1, 1999, at Bay Medical Center. He was born in Unionville on July 22, 1920, the son of Harry O. and Mildred I. Morford Cartwright. On March 30, 1943, he married the former Helen Marie Lenhard in Gagetown. She preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Cartwright served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Unionville Moravian Church. Following his graduation from Michigan State University, he was a teacher with the Unionville and Gagetown school systems, and then became principal at Akron-Fairgrove public schools and Unionville-Sebewaing Area Public Schools. He was also athletic director and coach at Unionville and USA schools. He was a proud member of the Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame, the USA Schools Hall of Fame, the Michigan Sports Sages and for a number of years hosted a WKYO Radio program entitled, "Let's Talk Sports." He was a member of the American Legion Post 421, Unionville, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Caro, and was very active in the Thumb Meet of Champions and an avid golfer. For many years he was a member of the Country Gospel Orchestra. He is survived by his son, Larry Cartwright and his wife, Berta, of Charlotte; daughters, Kathie Abke and her husband, Lynn, of Bad Axe, Colleen Schoenfeldt and her husband, David, of Macomb, Holly Geurts and her husband, Dan, of Gladstone, Bonnie Kauffold and her husband, Randy, and Tracy Kemp and her husband, Paul, of Sebewaing; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at the Unionville Moravian Church with the Rev. Terry Weavil officiating. lnterment will be in Columbia Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Unionville Funeral Chapel. He preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage on January 25, 1989. Kenneth S. Copeland, 80, of Cass City passed away Friday morning, Jan. 22, 1999, at the James E. Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and one daughter and their spouses, K. Norman Copeland and his wife, Rosemary, of Kalamazoo, Ronald Copeland and his wife, Mary, of Lakeland, Fla., Wayne Copeland and his wife, Marcia, of Bad Axe, Jon Sawicki and his wife, Joann, of Greenfield, Ind., and Beryl Bliss and her husband, Robert, of Cass City; two stepdaughters, Christine Guewa and her husband, Bill, of Unionville, and Kathryn McCullough of Cass City; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Howard Copeland of West Branch; Gladys Hendrick; Harold Copeland and his wife, Helen, and Helen Decker and her husband, Jerry, all of Cass City; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Copeland of Cass City and Leone Copeland of Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at the Cass City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Phillip Rice will officiate. Ellen (Toots) Coltson, 92, of Kingston died Friday, August 6, 1999 at Lamotte Retirement Home in Decker, Michigan. Mrs. Coltson was a life long resident of the Kingston area. She was born June 12, 1907 in Shabbona, daughter of the late George and Elma (Gotham) Parrott. Ellen was a 1926 graduate of Marlette High School, married Irl J. Coltson January 12, 1927 in Kingston, he passed away February 5, 1989. She was a past member of the White Creek Floral Club and Lamotte Presbyterian Church and attended the Marlette 1st. Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one son: Ronald and Loris Coltson of Marlette and one daughter: Patricia and Clair Innes of Hoschton, Georgia; one sister Katherine Turner of Manhatten, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Irl, parents George and Elma, brothers Herb, Earnest, Jim, George, Dewey, Fred; sisters Hazel and Estella. Vivian N. Cowper, 79, passed away Thursday, August 19, 1999 at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Bad Axe. She lived in Marlette for 37 years and was previously from the Tuscola County area. She was born on May 29, 1920 in Ruth, Michigan to the late Milton and Jessie (Cleland) Thompson. She married Harold Cowper on November 14, 1936 in Deckerville, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1994. She worked for the Marlette Dry Cleaners for 35 years and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sandusky and Vassar. She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Patricia) Cowper of Reese, Donald Cowper of Marlette and Jim Cowper of Brown City; four daughters, Joan (Bud) Dennis of Mayville, Janet (David) Leaman of Vassar, Carol (Don) Scribner of Vassar and Norine (Gerald) Kelley of Deford; a sister, Vera Schumacher of Sandusky; 28 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Milton and Jessie; a daughter, Joyce; a sister, Betty; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Agnes Fern Blair was born June 13, 1900 in Fairgrove Township to Isabelle and William Blair. On December 23, 1920 she married Harry Moore, who predeceased her November 13, 1971. On June 13, 1979 she married George (Duff) Culbert. He predeceased her June 13, 1988. She Leaves one daughter, Isabelle Zuehlsdorff of Bay City, three grandchildren, Cheryl Zuehlsdorff of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Gregg Zuehlsdorff of Bay City and Dr. and Mrs Gary Zuehlsdorff, great grand children Benjamin and Sarah of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves a step-daughter Mrs Ellis Day, her husband Ellis, their son Mike Day, daughter Patricia Donovan, (Terry) and their children Mark and Matthew. She lived most of her life in Fairgrove, the oldest member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, and was a life member active in the order of the Eastern Star Chapter #371, serving as worthy Matron, and a member of the State auditing committee for the order of the Eastern Star. She cherished her many friends in the Fairgrove community who were so very faithful to her for so many years. She dearly loved the members of the Bay county Health Department, the Staff of Bay Shores Nursing Home, and the Nurses and aides of the Carriage House of Bay City who were so compassionate and caring of her during her final days.

Louise I. Daenzer, 87, of Port Hope passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in Tendercare Nursing Center in Cass City following a short illness. She was born on Aug. 6, 1912, in Flint to the late Frank and Margaret (Wendt) Martens. She and Eric Daenzer were married on Oct. 27, 1955, in Bay City. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1965. She is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by four children. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Giradin, pastor, and the Rev. Eugene Koessel, former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Bay City.
Paul R. DeLong, 19, of Cass City died Thursday evening, Sept. 30, 1999, in a silo farm accident in Sanilac County. He was born Nov. 1, 1979 in Bad Axe, son of Robert DeLong and the late Laurie McRae. He was never married. He attended Cass City elementary school. He was a 1998 graduate of Ubly High School. He was a sophomore at Delta College in Elementary Education Special Education Curriculum. He was the winner of the Kevin Kerbyson Memorial Award as Grand Champion Senior Showmanship 1998, winner of many big steer showmanship awards in county fairs in Tuscola, Huron and other counties. He was a member of the Ubly High School football, baseball and basketball teams, and was a student aide in the special education classes at Ubly High School. He was a volunteer for the Special Olympics in Caro for many years. He was a member of the Cass City Livestock 4-H Club. Paul was employed by many area farmers and most recently at the Schulte Farms in Harbor Beach and as a repair technician for DeLong's Repair in Cass City. He is survived by his father, Robert, and his wife, Kathleen, of Cass City; one brother, Joseph, of Cass City; one sister, Kate, at home; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Laura McRae, of Ubly; his paternal grandmother, Lucile DeLong, of Cass City; many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laurie McRae; and his paternal grandfather, Donald DeLong. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at St. John's Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. T. J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Elkland Cemetery of Cass City. Shirley Doerr, 68, of Cass City died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in IHS of Michigan at Riverbend, Grand Blanc. She was born May 17, 1931 in Bad Axe to Herbert and Ada (Rader) Anderson. She married Edward Mason in March of 1956. He died Nov. 8, 1957. Shirley then married Donald Doerr on Aug. 23, 1958 in Gaylord. He died Oct. 23, 1976. Shirley was a licensed practical nurse until her children were born. She ran a thrift shop for Big Brothers & Big Sisters in Caro and retired in May of 1996. Shirley was a past member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star of Cass City and a Lioness of Cass City. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. She loved children and enjoyed raising hers and others. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Doerr Joseph and her husband, Robert, Richard Doerr and his wife, Mary, John Doerr and his wife, Barb, and Donald Doerr and his wife, Barb, all of Cass City; grandchildren, Evan and Abby Joseph, Christina,Melissa, Mason, Nicole, Brent and Joseph Doerr, Samantha Wright and Cory Hill; brother, Herbert Anderson and his wife, Dorothy, of Bad Axe; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Peterman and her husband, Jack, of Kalamazoo, Carol Anderson of Caseville; a special son, Steven Meeker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Doerr in 1979; and brothers, Robert Wayne Anderson and James Anderson. Joseph John Dupont, Fairgrove, age 54, died Monday , February 8, 1999 at St. Lukes Hospital in Saginaw. Mr Dupont was born November 15, 1944 in Chicago the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred and Bonnie (DeGrand) Dupont. He was a veteran of the US Army serving 1962- 1965. Mr. Dupont had been employed at Anlaan Corporation Construction and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 324 for 30 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing and golf. Pauline B. Engels, Cass City, died Sunday July 19, 1998 at Tendercare . Age 85. She was born April 15, 1913 in Port Austin the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Angela (Snezak) Miller. She and Julius T. Engels were united in marriage August 15, 1953 in Angola, IN. May B. (Fader) Ensign, 56, of Caro, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. May B. McComb was born Nov. 12,1937 at Vassar. She was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County, living most of her life in the Caro area. She married Lee R. Ensign June 5, 1993. May was a Cub Scout den mother as well as a 4-H leader, and had been a member of the Women of the Moose, Caro Chapter #40. She is survived by her husband, Lee R. Ensign; 3 sons, Ricky Roy Fader and his fiance, Marsha Gonzales, Reese, Rev. James Fader Jr. and his wife, Kelly Ann, Caro, Scott Fader and his fiance, Michelle Vernier, Caro; one daughter, Rhonda Renee Green and her fiance, Fred Aherns, Caro; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-children, Mrs. Steve (Krista) Byrd, and Mark Ensign, all of Mt. Bertha Ertman, 94, of Cass City died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Hills & Dales General Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1904, in Parisville to Joseph and Antoinette (Peruski) Peplinski. She married Walter A. Ertman on Nov. 25, 1924, in Parisville. He died Nov. 24, 1983. Bertha was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and St. Pancratius Women's Council. She was very active in church. She enjoyed canning, polkas and bingo. Bertha is survived by her daughters, Lillian Wisniewski and her husband, George, of Warren, Lorraine Danielak and her husband, Jack, of Houghton Lake, Janice Braun and her husband, Donald, of Pensacola, Fla., Marilyn Klco and her husband, Alan, of Cass City; sons, S. Ira Raymond Ewald Sr., of the Otisville and Millington areas died on Sunday, April 11, 1999 at the Hurley Medical center in Flint. He was 82 years of age. Surviving is his wife Dorothy; five sons, Gary Ewald of California, Jimmy Jay and Ira Ewald Jr., both of Millington, Eugene Ewald of Davison, Bob Ewald of North Carolina; nine daughters, Suzanne (Susie) Jay, and Joanne (Jay) Hitsman, both of Millington, Diane (Jay) Shackford and Carol Frink, both of Howell, Kathy (Ewald) Ferris of Montrose, Dorothy (Ewald) Broadworth of Caro, Holly (Ewald) Petzold of Millington, Cindy (Ewald) Goff of Clio, and Mary (Ewald) Workman of Millington; many grandchildren; and great grand-children; one half-brother Chuck Balyeat of Flint; sisters, Lila Mae Fischer of Gladwin, and Geneva Kamen of Detroit. Mr. Ewald was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Albert; and Myron, three sisters, Ella Dorothy, and Phoebe Jane; and one son, Edward Jay Ewald who had been residing in California. Morris which was together for over 50 years. Lucille retired 1953 after 29 years of service operating the Mt. Morris Consumer Power office. During World War II she was a nurse's assistant with the Visiting Nurse Assoc. A Life member of Disabled American Veterans, member St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Vassar. He retired from GM, Flint, as a truck driver. He then owned and operated Pineview Motel in Millington. She was also an avid bowler for many years. Thelma retired from Woodcock Insurance Agency in Vassar after 19 years of service. Harry 0. Habicht, 83, of Vassar, died Friday, May 13, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born July 8, 1910 in Ashtabula, Ohio. He married Maxine L. Livingston June 27, 1930 in Toledo,Ohio. Mr. Habicht was a retired farmer, farming in the Cass City and Milan area and had worked at Ford Motor Co. in Milan. Marie A. Hansen, 92, of Caro, and formerly of Midland, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999 at the Tuscola County Care Facility. She was born on September 4, 1906 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Steven and Anna (Russia) Benaske. She attended Central Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in education. She married John L. Hansen on June 9, 1933 in Indiana. He predeceased her on June 7, 1993. Mrs. Hansen had taught school in Frankfort, Ludington, and then in Midland at the Eastlawn Elementary School for 30 years, retiring in 1972. After retiring, she and her husband spent winters in Dundee, Fla., and their summers at their home in Houghton Lake. Mrs. Hansen was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother, with her energies going to her family. Surviving are: three daughters, Janice Feaster of Grand Rapids, Karen Mahan of Caro, Mary Lynn Hazel and her husband Robert of Capac; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler St., Midland. The Rev. Wallace H. Bonniemaie was born in Menasha, Wisconsin June 10, 1940 to Frank and Violet (Chojnowski) Dombrowski coming to the Akron Fairgrove area at an early age. She graduated from the Akron High School and she enjoyed macrame as a hobby when time permitted. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had been employed at the Caro Manufacturing Company and also with Erla's Grocery Store in Cass City. She was married to Willard Hawley October 5, 1992 in Caro. Survivors include her husband, Willard; three sons, Bob (Cheri) Ahrens of Fairgrove, Doug (Barb) Ahrens of Fairgrove, Fred (Rhonda) Ahrens of Fairgrove; her mother, Violet of Frankenmuth: two daughters; one brother, Francis (Clara) Dombrowski of Corunna; three sisters, Pat (Al) Wahlgren of St. Paul, Minnesota, Judy (Mike) Essenmacher of Walled Lake; Rosemary Miller of Fenton; 17 grandchildren. Bonniemaie was preceded in death by her father, two husbands, Edward Ahrens in 1977, Alex Beller in 1992, one brother, Raymond and one sister, Rita. A memorial service was held at the Akron Harvest Baptist Church in Akron with the Rev. Phillip R. Hudson and pastor James Fader, Jr. officiating. Sidney Ann Haynes, of Vassar died on Tuesday, November 24, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw. She was one year and two months old. Catherine Herline, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother died Friday February 26, 1999 at her home after a lengthy illness. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Urban and Alvena Craft, she was born February 18, 1930 in Rose City and attended school there. She married O.R."Lucky" Herline September 24, 1948. She was a member of Saginaw Grace Baptist Church. The Vassar Auxiliary Aerie No. 2380 FOE and also the Thumb Area Mud Runners organization for nineteen years. Prior to her retirement in 1984 she had been employed at Fisher Body - Coldwater Plant for 30 years. Catherine love to play bingo and also bowled in two Senior leagues, winning many awards and accumulating many dear friends. Foster Hickey, 77, of Fairgrove died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997. Born May 19, 1919, in Fairgrove, he was the son of John W. and Mamie(Harris) Hickey. He married Norinne Goodall Aug. 10, 1942. A farmer, he was a member of the Fairgrove Lions Club, Farm Bureau and Michigan Milk Producers Association. He had served in 4-H and was a member of the Fairgrove First United Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: his wife, Norinne; a son, Duane Hickey of Fairgrove; a daughter, Christine Shaw of Fairgrove; 3 granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. Geneva A. Higgs, 76, formerly of Caro, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Tendercare Nursing Home in Cass City. She was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Caseville. The former Geneva Champagne married Norman "Dick" Higgs May 10, 1941, in Laredo, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1988. She is survived by a son, Fred Higgs and his wife, Carolyn, of Canton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Champagne and his wife, Norma, of Pennsylvania, and Elmer Champagne of Caro; one sister-in-law, Connie Champagne of Deford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edmund, Clete and Linus; and one sister, Mary Pinkoski. William J. Hunter, Fairgrove, Died on Saturday June 19, 1999 at Brian's House in Hampton Township, Age 71 years. He was born on August 21, 1927 in Fairgrove, Michigan to the late Carmin and Phebe (Murday) Hunter. He married Stefana Koral on December 16, 1950. She predeceased him on October 7, 1993. They had three children who survive him. Allen Hunter and wife Joan of Sedalia, MO; Kathy Millison and husband Richard of Clovis, CA; John Hunter of Fairgrove, MI; and two granddaughters: Heidi and Jessica Hunter of Sedalia, MO. On November 4, 1994 William married Phyllis Russell. She survives him as well as two step-sons; four step-daughters; and eleven step-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister: Mae Krohn of Bad Axe, MI. Bill as family and friends knew him, farmed the family farm until the early 1970's. He was also employed as a long and short haul trucker for St. Louis Freight Lines for 10 years and Causley Trucking for 20 years. He had been retired for the past 10 years. To his family and friends he will be remembered for his friendliness, generosity, and sense of humor. He had a love and curiosity for life and how people lived it, striking up conversations with friends and strangers wherever he went. Bill was a lifetime member of Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Justin N. King, 17, of Millington was called home to be with the Lord when he died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on May 24, 1982 in Lapeer, the son of Amy (King) Reinbold and Lawrence Taljonick. He was a sophomore at Millington High School. He liked cars and music. Surviving are his mother, Amy and her husband, Chris Reinbold, of Saginaw; father, Lawrence Taljonick of Millington; brother, Evan; sister, Marley; grandparents, John and Sandy Aaron, of Saginaw, David King of Port Huron, and Bob and Pat Taljonick of Otisville; great-grandparents, Fran and Tom Neville of Bad Axe and Bruce and Jean Winchell of Freeland; great-great-grandmother, Anna Tilden of Saginaw; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Florence Knuckles, of the Frankenmuth-Vassar area, and formerly of Piggott, Arkansas, died on March 28, 1999 at her residence in Frankenmuth. She was 85 years of age. Mrs. Knuckles was born on September 30, 1913 in Pollard, Arkansas, the daughter of Richard and Tenia Mae (Nickols) Brady. She was a life long member of Wanderers' Home Baptist Church. She was married to Raymond Knuckles on July 23, 1932 and to this union two children were born, Francis D. Knuckles of Piggott and M. Nadine (Knuckles) Whitaker of Millington. They survive her along with a sister, Ethel Wilkes of Piggott, Arkansas; one brother, Manuel Brady of Rector, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Brenda Ward of Cantonment, Florida, Bryan Whitaker of Mayville, Jayson Whitaker of Frankenmuth, Lisa Legue of Millington, and Ray Whitaker of Mayville; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Brady of Pollard, Arkansas. Donald F. Kochalka, age 70 of Vassar died Wednesday May 5, 1999 at Covenant Medical Care in Harrison after a lengthy illness. He was born January 4, 1929 in Saginaw the son of Lasko and Mary (Dvorski) Kochalka. He married Betty J. Boivin February 29, 1964. Don and Betty owned and operated State Town and Country Realty Co. for 35 years. He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church and its Mens Club. He had been an avid member of the Vassar community for many years and also served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife Betty of Vassar; Children: Bill Lewis and family of Vassar; Linda and husband Daniel Fowler and family of Fostoria; Ronald and wife Tina Lewis and family of Howard City; Connie Jo Janes and family of Reese; Diane and husband Thomas Kanyok and family of Vassar; Kim and husband Tim Kern of Richville; Also his beloved dog and best friend Toby. 12 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; Beloved friends and Grandparents of their children, Carl and Thelma Graubman of Vassar; Also 1 Brother and 2 Sisters; Robert Kochalka of Bay City; Cathy Mikel and Jane Jeffery both of Pa.; Many Nieces and Nephews. John A. Knowlton, 52, of Caro passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon, Aug. 28, 1999. He was born Dec. 21, 1946 in Monroe, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Turner) Knowlton. He came to Tuscola County with his parents as a child. He graduated from Cass City High School and moved to Caro in 1968 and has lived there since. He had been employed at Delphi Saginaw Steering Gear for 31 years, retiring on Oct. 1, 1996. For most of his adult life, one of his great pleasures was horses and their training. After his retirement from Delphi, horse training became his full-time occupation. He was a member of the Living Waters Chapel in Caro, the American and the Michigan Quarter Horse Associations, the Palomino Horse Association, the Blue Water Pleasure Horse Association and the UAW Loca1 699. He married Val Furness on June 24,1967 in Cass City. She survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Michelle Robinson and her husband, Chris, of Caro; two sisters, Charlotte Rabideau of Cass City, Ruth Ann Hnatiuk of Arizona; three brothers, Robert Knowlton of Arizona, William Knowlton of Virginia and James Knowlton of Marlette; a very special aunt and uncle, Loretta and Walter Turner of Caro; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at the Living Waters Chapel in Caro. The Rev. James Solomon, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m today at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro and from 10 a.m until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. He and Judy DePotty were united in marraige June 29, 1957 in Tuscola. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the US Marine Corps Infantry in Korea. A member of Davison VFW Post 4087 and formerly Vassar VFW Post. Mr. Martin retired from Super Food Service in Bridgeport. He worked as a delivery truck driver since 1968 and was a member of Teamsters Local #337. Pauline M. McArthur, 95, of Cass City, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in Tendercare Nursing Facility in Cass City after a short illness. She was born on March 20, 1904 in Traverse City to Orlie and Kate (Gerlinger) Squiers. She married Stanley B. McArthur on June 4, 1927 in Flint. Pauline was a member of the Cass City First Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She was a pianist at the church for more than 50 years. Pauline was a very active Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; son, Robert McArthur and his wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Kathleen Daneault and her husband, Andre, Douglas McArthur, and his wife, Brenda, and David McArthur and his wife, Angela, all of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Adams, Andrew Adams, Joseph Daneault, Anthony McArthur and Stacey McArthur. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret; great-grandson, Philip Robert Adams; sisters, Velma Squiers and Georgia Thompson. Barbara Joan Mooney, 62, of Thompsonville, formerly of the Caro area, died Saturday, March 6, 1999 at her residence in Springdale Township. She was born September 16, 1936, in Pontiac, daughter of Broox and Christine (VandeWater) Barr. Barbara retired from Caro Community Hospital, where she was an X-ray technician, as well as the past president of the ASCME Union. She loved spending time with her family, picking mushrooms, fishing, and collecting antiques. Barbara is survived by; her husband, William Douglas Mooney of Thompsonville; her children, Laura (Eugene) Green of Caro, Renee (Chris) Draves of Franklin, Tenn., Barbara (Larry) Green of Caro, and Douglas (Denise) Mooney of Caro; eight grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. Vincent "Willie" Oprea, Died Saturday afternoon December 18, 1999 at his residence. Age 77, he was born October 30, 1922 in Detroit. He married Edith Louise Lockhart June 21, 1947. Willie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Elf Khurafeh Shrine, Vassar Masonic Lodge #163 F & AM, and a charter member of the Vassar Eagles #2380. He had also been inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. He had been employed at Eaton Mfg. Co. for 17 ½ years and also owned and operated Hill Top Recreation for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and many other outdoor activities and had been a private pilot for 53 years. He also shared his arrowhead collection with many. He is survived by his wife Edith of Vassar: 2 Sons: John Charles and Joyce Oprea of Lapeer; Jerry Vincent and Karen Oprea of Bay City; 3 Grandchildren: Kari, Chris and Andrew Oprea. Also 1 Sister: Rose Baxter of Drummond Island. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a Grandson Anthony Oprea and 4 Brothers, George, John Andy, and Tony Oprea. Timothy M. Osentoski, 34, formerly of Cass City, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996 in Marana, Ariz. He was born May 6, 1962 in Cass City to Enoch 'Red' and Rose (Rusnak) Osentoski. Tim married Heather Stock in August of 1992 at Farver Road Church. Tim is survived by his wife, Heather; a daughter, Ashley; step children, Burgandy and Christopher Burleson, all of Arizona; his mother, Rose Osentoski, of Cass City; siblings, Sharon Wood and her husband, Dan, of Gagetown, Darlene Russell and her husband, Carl, of Cass City, Ken Osentoski and his wife, Jean, of Cass City, Steve Osentoski and his wife, Cheryl, of Cass City, Denise Houlihan and her husband, Brian, of Imlay City, Roseann Russell and her husband, Don, of Cass City; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. John C. "Jack" Osgerby, 74 years, of North Buck Road, Marblehead, Ohio, and formerly of Swanton and Whitehouse, Ohio, died Saturday, January 17, 1998 at Providence Hospital, Sandusky, Ohio. Jack was born on July 26, 1923 in Vassar, Michigan to Clark and Margaret (Larrabee) Osgerby. He married Carol M. Trott in 1948 and she preceded him in death in 1979. Jack was a carpenter for 45 years, retiring in 1994. He was also the owner of Oak Ridge Arena and Blue Creek Stables. He bred, raised, showed and trained paint and quarter horses, winning the National Reining Horse Association Futurity in 1981. He was also a horse show judge. Jack was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union #1138, the Fulton County Saddle Club and the Tri-State Rodeo Association. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Susan "Su" (Jim) Ketchmark of Denver, CO; brothers, Robert (Betty) of Dallas, TX, and Cecil (Nelda) Osgerby of Caro, Ml; his companion, Lola Kaiser, of Fremont, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Osgerby; along with many nieces and nephews. He preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Partridge loved to make quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved working in her Flower garden. Gerald Francis Peplinski, Vassar Michigan age 69, died Wednesday March 10, 1999 at his residence. Gerald was born August 29, 1929 in Cedar, Michigan the son of Bernard and Lucille (Galla) Peplinski. He married Doris Ann O'Brien April 21, 1952 at St. Mary's Church in Lake Leelanau, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl. in the 711 Airborne Ordinance. Prior to his retirement in 1995 he had been employed as a Machinist for General Motors for 45 years. He had also engaged in hobby farming since 1954 and where he spent time with family and grandchildren. He is survived by: Wife Doris Ann Peplinski; 3 daughters: Diane Peplinski; Donna and husband Michael Tedford; Denise and husband Tony Amend; 6 sons: Kenneth Peplinski,; Wayne Peplinski; Douglas Peplinski; Gerald A. and wife Frances Peplinski; Kevin and wife Robin Peplinski; Mark Peplinski and Friend Anita.; 8 Grandchildren: Troy and Chad, Brandon, Abbey and Jared, Joshua and Lydia, Chandler. Brothers: Raymond and Edward Peplinski ; Sisters Winnie, Dorothy, Adaline, Marie, Lillian, Irene and Theresa. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Lucille Peplinski, Brothers Aloysius and Bernard Jr. and a Sister Beatrice who died in infancy. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1:00 P.M. Harold O. Phillips, 78, of Clifford, passed away Thursday, November 19, 1998 at Saginaw Veterans Nursing Home in Saginaw, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, Robert and Nancy Phillips, Clifford, James and Ivanna Phillips, Silverwood, and David and Cecelia Phillips, Cass City; three daughters, Maxine and George Moore, Caro, Nancy Moore, Auburn Hills, and Sharon Smith, Caro; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Joseph and Russell; and a sister, Irene Deneen. Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 23, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Keith Mead officiating. Interment was at West Burlington Cemetery in Silverwood with military honors. Arcangelo "Frank" Piazza, age 88, of Vassar died Tuesday, February 23, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Frank was born August 30, 1910 in Lorenzgo, Italy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentino and Roma (Tremonti) Piazza. He and Marguerite Barnes were united in marriage November 1936. She preceded him in death November 14, 1988. Frank was a member of St. Francis X. Cabrini Catholic Church of Vassar. He was a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus Vassar/Millington Fr. Robert E. Smith Council 7591 and also a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity 2013 of Caro, 4th Degree. Also a member of Vassar F.O.E. #2380. Frank retired from General Electric in 1975 as a welder in the heat treatment dept. He enjoyed photography, reading, collecting books, and gardening. Left to cherish his memory are 4 children, Ramon and wife Ruth Piazza of Kalamazoo, Anita Haile of Portland, Oregon, Gary and wife Joyce Piazza of Cincinnati, OH and Duane and wife Sandy Piazza of Hamilton, OH; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Ferrer and wife Lula Pizza of Vassar; sister, Claudia and husband Eber Barnes of Vassar; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Grant G. Reava, 90, of Deckerville, formerly of Minden City, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Autumnwood of Deckerville, after a long illness. He was born June 30, 1906 in Deckerville, son of the late John F. and Elizabeth (Stopp) Reava. He married Helena L. Wendt on July 1, 1932 in Bowling Green, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1983. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon O'Mara of Adrian, Gail Burton and her husband, Wesley, of Cincinatti, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hilda Gault of Flint, Marie Koeff of Traverse City, Ruth Chavey of Dearborn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helena; a son, Dale; two brothers, Sherman and George Reava; and two sisters, Lela Murdock and Lorina Oliver. Herbert A. Reinert, a lifelong resident of Millington, died on Thursday, September 23, 1999 at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Reinert was born on November 13, 1925 in Arbela Township. He was the son of William and Clara (Daenzer) Reinert. On February 11, 1967 he married Ruth Ann Olvey. Together they celebrated 32 years of marriage. Mr. Reinert was a carpenter and had been employed by Bierlein Construction, retiring in 1987. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, 1952-1954. As a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington Mr. Reinert acted as an usher and was active in the Stewardship Program. He also was a member of the Conrad-Wager-Keene American Legion Post #164. Mr. Reinert worked part-time for the Millington Police Department and the Tuscola County Sheriff's Department. Surviving is his wife, Ruth; sisters, Florence Keinath and Elsie Diamond; a twin brother, Norbert Reinert; many brothers and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Clarence, and a sister, Lorna. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington with Pastor Tim Bickel officiating. Interment was in Millington Township Cemetery. O. Keith Riley - Passed away on Tuesday October 19, 1999 at Caro Community Hospital. He was 82. He was born on June 19, 1917 at Caro, the son of Orlo and Nellie Riley. He was a 1936 graduate of Caro High School and the class president. Keith was a member of the Caro High School basketball team (circa '35) and went to the state finals. He married the former Elizabeth (Dottie) Pierog on May 1, 1943 at Bloomfield, New Jersey. After his graduation, he was employed with Turner Hardware in Caro until taking a position with State Savings Bank. Keith then joined the U. S. Marine Corp on September 3, 1941. During his service he was in the South Pacific Theater for 17 months and was a warrant officer upon his discharge in May of 1946. Upon his return to Caro, he continued his employment with State Savings Bank until purchasing the Economy Shoe store with his brother, John on January 3, 1947. They operated the Riley Shoe Store from 1947 until 1970. For some time they owned and operated a second shoe store in West Branch. Keith then was secretary-treasurer for Metcalf & Schrader from 1973 until his retirement in December of 1983. He was past president of the Caro Chamber of Commerce (1956) past president and treasurer of the Caro Exchange Club (Member since 1946) and a former member of the Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F &AM. He was a life member of Caro VFW Post #4164, the Tuscola County Fair Association, and a member of Theron Atwood American Legion Post #7. Keith enjoyed a good game of golf and together with Allah Schrader, they took the game into their "golden" retirement years. He is survived by his wife, Dottie; loving children and their spouses, Greg and Sharon Riley of Gaylord, and Patricia and Richard Brady of Petoskey, Mike and Gloria Riley of Standish, Maureen Riley of Caro, Janice and Robert Osborn of Caro, Julia Riley and Kim Matiszak of Caro, John and Vicki Riley of Caro, Lt. Cmdr Brian Riley, USN of San Diego, California, 20 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John and two sisters, Bernice Fitzgerald and Anna Wittie. Funeral was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Friday, October 22 at 11 am with Rev. Kenneth Yaroch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Military graveside services under the auspices of Caro VFW Post #4164 and Theron Atwood American Legion Post #7. Beatrice Irene Badgero Roy, 75, of Rogers died Sept. 29, 1999, at her home. She was born March 12, 1924, in Midland, Mich., to Dave and Pansy Burrell Badgero. She was a homemaker and a self-employed seamstress. She moved to Rogers in 1998 from Springdale. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and crocheting. Helen Rutkoski, 82, of Cass City died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She was born Sept. 8, 1914 in Buffalo, N.Y., daughter of Lawrence and Catherine (Mazur) Jurkowski. She married Enick Rutkoski on Nov. 29, 1933 in Parisville and their union was blessed with 15 children. James Clyde Shattuck, Vassar, Michigan Died Sunday July 4, 1999 at St. Marys Medical Center in Saginaw. Age 75. He was born February 9, 1924 in Mayville the son of James and Myrtle (Monroe) Shattuck. He married Naretha Sherbrook Oct. 10, 1942. He had been employed at Vassar United Plastic Co. for several years and then retired from Saginaw Steering Gear. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was active in the national Navy reunion. He was a former member of the Vassar VFW Post. Jim's biggest pride included his wife, children, grandchildren, and the Navy. He was always there as the backbone and educator for his family. She retired 1974 from Secretary of State Office in Flint with 11 years service. She had worked at Mark Allen's Secretary of State office in Mt. Morris for several years before working in the Flint office. Surviving are her 3 children: Claude Jr. and wife Dianne Shoens of Bad Axe; Nancy and husband Richard Woodbeck of Mt. Morris; Charlotte and husband Bob Buys of Flushing; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother John Allen.

Martha Slack, 85, of Brighton Township, formerly of Deford, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Medilodge Nursing Home, Howell. Jack Snider, age 105, Of Yorktown died Tuesday evening at The Waters of Yorktown after a brief Illness. He was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, attended schools there, moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1926, and later to Vassar, Michigan. He was a supervisor for Eaton Manufacturing for 30 years until retiring in 1959. He moved to Yorktown in 1996. Mr. Snider was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Vassar, and attended Yorktown Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are daughter: Clara and husband Albert Reif of Tavares, Florida; three grandchildren: Mark and wife Elizabeth Reif of Texas; Craig and wife Tina Reif of Yorktown; Dana and wife Kimberly Reif of Muncie; five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Wife Maria in 1989, his parents Phillip and Barbara (Mundt) Schneider, three brothers, two sisters. George Stekl, Fairgrove, age 76, died Friday November 20, 1998, at Bay Medical Center. Mr. Stekl was born October 9, 1922 in Fairgrove the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Rose (Rajkovich) Stekl. He and Marian Starkey were united in Marriage on March 15, 1944. She preceded him in death January 3, 1997. Mr. Stekl was a life long farmer. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and softball. Betty J. Stewart, 68, of Caro, died Thursday, May 21, at Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. She was born July 27, 1923, in Caro. The former Betty Force married Glen E. Stewart in 1945 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death July 25, 1989. Stewart was a lifelong resident of Caro and retired from Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital, where she had been employed as a nurses aide. She had been an active Girl Scout leader and a member of the Caro Church of Christ. She is survived by 5 children, Mrs. Barbara Shagena of Cass City, Mrs. Kathryn Sandmann of Toledo, Ohio, Mike Stewart of Fairgrove, Mrs. Kenneth (Karen) Spencer of Cass City, and Mrs Duane (Sharrie) Spencer of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren; 2 brothers, William Force of Caro and Frank J. Thomas L. Taylor Jr., 71, of Sebewaing and formerly of Port Austin, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the Saginaw Veterans Hospital. He was born on April 8, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Grace (York) and Thomas L. Taylor Sr. He married Lorraine Fluegge on July 21, 1962. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Bletl and her husband, Everitt, of Bad Axe and Gail Thompson of Sebewaing; 10 grandchildren, Everitt Jr., Ashley, Rebecca, Joshua and Derek Bletl and Brandi, Brittani, Bryon and Bret Thompson; and three sisters, Karen Gorman and her husband, Richard, of Howell, Beverly Marshall of Brighton and Patricia Leonard of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Olga W. Thurston, of Vassar, died on Saturday, April 17, 1999 at the Bortz Nursing Home in Rose City. She was 92 years of age. Mrs. Thurston was born on February 24, 1907 in Vassar, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Boatine) Schnell. She was a Vassar resident most of her life until moving to Rose City a few years ago. In November of 1930 she married Charles Thurston. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar. She leaves to cherish her memories her family; children, Norma and Merritt Schlaack of Hale; grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Schlaack of Las Vagas, Nevada, Robert Schlaack and Diane and Larry McClymonds, all of Denver, Colorado, Nancy and Luke Bierlein of Reese, Daniel and Ann Thurston of Fairgrove, Julie and Joe Coffey, and Dennis Thurston, all of Vassar; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ursula Stewart, of Vassar; one sister-in-law, Erna Schnell, of Vassar; as well as several nieces and nephews. Virgina Collette (Rogers) Truesdail, Vassar, age 71 died Sunday, December 6, 1998 at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw. Born December 31, 1926 in Downer's Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Cecilia (Arthur) Horne. She and Arch Rogers were united in marriage on April 14, 1962 in Eaton Rapids. He preceded her in death July 23, 1972. She then married Richard Truesdail May 1981 in Tuscola. He preceded her in death September 1, 1994. Ruth Laura Tulloch, Vassar, age 83, died Monday Nov. 2, 1998 at Saginaw St. Mary Hospital. Funeral services will be 11am Thursday from First Baptist Church of Vassar. Mrs. Tulloch was born near Standish Dec. 2, 1914 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Laura (Wyatt) Wubbena. She graduated from Standish High School and Arenac County Normal College. She worked 5 years on the Arenac County Independent before marrying William C. Tulloch on August 3, 1938. They were married nearly 50 years when William died November 1987. The couple moved to Vassar September 1939, where William taught vocational agriculture for over 30 years. The family also farmed south of Vassar and raised four children. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Tulloch served many terms as Deaconess as well as many other offices and duties. During the 1970's she enjoyed writing local news for Vassar Pioneer Times and the Caro Advertiser. In her later years she was active in the Senior Citizens club of Vassar. Surviving are her 4 children: Rodney and wife Charlotte Tulloch of Lexington, KY; John and wife Pauline Tulloch of Colorado Springs, CO; Janine and husband Richard Emery of Flint; Christine and husband Duane Robinson of Ft. Wayne, IN.; Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Catherine Wubbena of Standish; Jean Bittner of Vassar; And several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers.
Coral Genevieve (Cragg) Turner, Saginaw, age 93 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer and Mary (Miller) Cragg was born on July 23, 1907 in Gilford, Michigan. She passed away at Tender Care Nursing Home on December 25, 1999. Coral graduated from Vassar High School and from Cleary Business College in Ypsilant. After graduation she worked at Detroit and Pigeon for several years until she returned to help her parents on their farm. Both her parents preceded her in death. She married Leonard Turner May 9, 1942. He passed away September 9, 1965. Coral had been an active member of Gilford United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted her to do so. She lived at her home from the time of her birth until her last illness. She leaves to mourn her loss, several cousins, nephews and nieces and special friend LaVanne Richards who Coral highly respects. Thomas Lee Tyo, 51, of Cass City died Sunday, March 10, at Hills and Dales General Hospital. He was brn July 20,1939, in Detroit, the son of Mrs. Phyllis (Brooks) Tyo of Deford and the late Forest Tyo. He marricd Miss Marilyn Hadeka Oct. 14, 1961, in Cass City, where they made their home. Mr. Tyo, an avid hunter and fisherman, had been employed by the Caro Regional Center. He was a member of the Royal Order of Moose, Caro. He served with the United States Marines in Okinawa and Japan. Survivors include his wife Marilyn; 2 daughters, Mrs. Greg (Kathy) Hutchinson of Cass City and Mrs. Dan (Dorie) Gee of Mansfield, Ohio; one granddaughter, Tiffany; his mother, Mrs. Phyllis Tyo of Deford; one sister, Mrs. Ronald Phillips of Deford, and 3 nephews, Michael, Mark and Donald Phillips, all of Deford. Eugene W. Vincent, 57, of Cass City died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996 at his home after a long illness. He was born Aug. 21, 1939 in Reese to George and Beryl (Harrison) Vincent. He married Tanya Rolston on Aug. 16, 1980. Mr. Vincent is survived by his wife, Tanya; daughters, Stephanie and Kimberly Vincent of Cass City and Christine Arnold and her husband, Robert, of Rochester Hills, Susan Jobe of Rochester Hills, Heidi Josey and her husband, Keith, of Rochester Hills; sons, Timonthy Vincent of Cass City, Eugene Vincent Jr., and his wife, Susan, of Cass City, Jesse Vincent and his wife, Renee, of Oxford; grandchildren, Shannon, Joshua, Jesse, Chester, Benjamin, Ashley, Robbie, Shane and Travis; sisters, Donna Spencer of Deford and Barbara Price of Snover; brother, Ronald Vincent of Marlette; many aunts and uncles and neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Vincent; a grandson, J.D. Meyers; his parents, George and Beryl Vincent; a sister, Geneieve Walker and a brother, Donald Vincent. James E. Walker, Vassar, age 75, died Wednesday, December 16, 1998 at his daughter's home in Cass City. James was born March 3, 1923 in Caro the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ernest and Dora (Nokes) Walker. He and Genevieve M. Vincent were united in marriage on April 1, 1946 in Vassar. He retired from Spence Brothers of Saginaw and was a member of Laborer's Local 1098 Union. He was a member of Vassar Eagles #2380. James enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, and shuffle board at the Eagle's Club. Left to cherish his memory are children; Tonya and husband Lloyd Newsome of Cass City, Donald and wife Linda walker of Harrison, Jeanette and husband Michael Geno of Port Huron, Michael Walker of Kingston; 8 grandchildren Lloyd Jr., Bunny, James, Toni, Penny, Jeremy, April and Kimberly; several great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dale and wife Beverly Walker of Six Lakes, Gerald and wife Judy Walker of Clio, Larry Walker of Clio; 2 sisters, Beverly and husband Clare Milliken of Vassar and Lillian Liebler of Clio. Leo Stanley Ware, 90, of Cass City, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, in Hills & Dales General Hospital. He was born May 3, 1909 in Ellington Township to William Henry and Gertrude (Deming) Ware. He married Mardell N. Starr on July 3, 1930 in Lapeer. Leo worked for Nestles Food Company and Pontiac Motors. In 1944 he and Stanley McArthur began Mac and Leo Service, which he ran until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Ware was a former Lions Club member and former Cass City councilman. Leo attended Novesta Church of Christ. Leo loved his work. He enjoyed people. He loved caring for and took pride in his lawn. Leo is survived by his wife, Mardell; children, Ferris Ware and his wife, Carol, of Shelbyville, Ind., James Ware and his wife, Joan, of Cass City, Gordon Ware and his wife, Pat, of Otter Lake, Donna Nye of Cass City, David Ware and his wife, Judy, of Cass City; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Stanley McArthur and his wife, Pauline; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lisa Ware; grandson, Ted Ware; daughter-in-law, Ella Jean Ware; and son-in-law, Ken Nye. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery. She was a member of VFW Post 7468 Auxiliary. Mrs. Wark was a avid traveler, active with Church of Christ, enjoyed bowling and volunteered at Akron/Fairgrove Elementary School. Dorothy I. Wesley, of Toledo, Ohio, and formerly of Vassar, died on Monday, April 5, 1999 at the Foundation Park Care Center in Toledo. She was 80 years of age. She leaves to cherish her memory her family, husband, Charles (Chuck); a daughter, Kendra Wesley of Toledo; a son, Kelly and Lydia Wesley of Vassar; three grandchildren, Brad, Ramero, and Shayne Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Shannen Wesley; one sister, Jane Crabs of California; one brother, Eugene Kelly of North Branch; and several nieces and nephews. Bertha (Bess) Hall Wilcox died Sunday, January 5, 1997 at Hilltop Manor, Roscommon. She was 86. She was born January 23, 1910 at Kingston, the daughter of Edwin and Zella (Willsey) Hall. She graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1927. Survivors include a daughter, Sue (Graham) and son-in-law Jack Fox of Houghton Lake; granddaughters, Natalie and husband Andy Farris of Kansas City, Kansas, and Stacey and husband Erick Ciesliga of Shelby Township; five great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Maida Butterfield of Saginaw and Virginia Rogers of Venice, Florida. Nellie M. Wright, 78, of Cass City died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Covenant Health Care-Cooper in Saginaw. She was born March 11, 1921 in Elyria, Ohio to Carl and Minnie (Johnson) Glatz. Paul L. Wright, 87, passed away Friday, November 13, 1998 at the Tuscola Medical Care Facility in Caro, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Sarah of Mayville, Michigan, a son, Jeffrey and Victoria Wright of Beverly Hills, Michigan; four daughters, Judith and Dan Fischer of Marlette, Lovina Huffman of Marlette, Patricia Oberle of Caro, Michigan and Lori Lau of Mt. Margaret Anna Wyckoff (Monchilov), Vassar, age 81, died Monday October 11, 1999 at Brittany Manor Nursing Home in Midland. Margaret was born December 25, 1917 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven and Barbara (Soltis) Hornyak . She was joined in marriage May 10, 1937 to James Monchilov. He preceded her in death June 19, 1968. She married Alez Wyckoff February 20, 1971. He preceded her in death December 8, 1984. David William Ziegler, Vassar, Michigan,Age 48, died Sunday, July 18, 1999 at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort. David was born December 24, 1950 in Sandusky the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clare and Bonnie (Riedel) Ziegler. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves 1969-1972. Was employed by Saginaw Metal Castings Operation as a production worker for 29 years. And enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing and boating.
