Funeral services for Godfrey Montie, who was killed in Kingston, were held at the Methodist Church. He was 77 years old. He leaves his wife and one son, Douglas Montie, a missionary in Japan. Burial was in Fairgrove cemetery.10-13-1960


Charles Gibbs Passes at Age of 78~, one of Tuscola County’s pioneers, died Wednesday of last week [June 1, 1960] after an illness of six weeks and funeral services were held at the Collon Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph D. Churchill of the Caro Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Caro cemetery. Mr. Gibbs was born on his father’s farm in Indianfields Township on September 14, 1881, so he was 78 on his last birthday. He was the son of Elias S. and Mary E. (Peck) Gibbs. He was for a number of years an automobile salesman for the firm of Cooper and Striffler. Since retiring from that job he has bought and sold many homes in Caro, modernizing them before selling, and at the time of his death he and Mrs. Gibbs were living at 340 West Bush Street. For 12 years he was a member of the Tuscola County Road Commission and served the county also as its truant officer. He was married November 5, 1913 to the former Voila Julia Jones at Akron. Surviving with Mrs. Gibbs are the couple’s two daughters, Mrs. Clare (Mary Alice) Osgerby of Caro and Mrs. Elston (Genevieve) DeCou of Vassar. Left also are a sister, Mrs. Lizzie McAlpine of Akron and a brother, Melvin E. Gibbs of Unionville, as well as six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert Browning, 79, Funeral services were held Saturday at the Kingston Methodist Church for Robert Browning, 79, Kingston, following his death Wednesday, June 13, at Cass City Hospital. He had been ill for the past six months. Born January 25, 1883, in Canada, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Browning. He moved from Canada with his parents to Huron county in 1886. He married, the former Cora Manley on February 22, 1916. She preceded him in death on September 17, 1954. Surviving are: four sons, Robert, Tampa, Fla.; Raymond, Brooksville, Fla., and Ray and William, both of Kingston, and three daughters, Mrs. Hazel James, Mrs. Grace Scott and Mrs. Katheryn Stevens, all of Drayton Plains. Also surviving are: a foster son, Joseph Beas, Pontiac; a brother, John,.Bay City; a sister. Belle Seleske, Arvado, Colo.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Rev. Final services for Charles Thomas Grandy, 64, were held Saturday morning in St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown, following his death Wednesday, Dec. 18, at his home
Born April 22, 1899, in Caro, he was a World War I veteran. He had lived in Gagetown for 27 years and was an employee of Automotive Industries, Owendale
He married Mary Eleanor Mullin in Detroit Nov. 10, 1936
Surviving besides his wife, are: a son, Charles of Gagetown; a daughter, Mrs. Clifford Ross of Ubly; a stepsister, Mrs. Myrle Karr of Caro. Also surviving are seven grandchildren
The Rev. Fr. Frank McLaughlin officiated and interment was in St. Agatha Cemetery. Arrangements were by Hunter Funeral Home

Funeral services for Frank LeValley, 75, were held Wednesday afternoon following his death Sunday at Hills and Dales General Hospital, the day before his birthday. He had been ill for six and a half years. Born Feb. 14, 1890, in Fairgrove township, he was a lifelong resident of Tuscola county. He lived in Caro a number of years since retiring from farming. He married Ethel Etter Dec. 29, 1915, in Elkhart, Ind. Surviving, besides his wife, are: four sons, Gene of Deford, William of Unionville, Russell of Akron and Glen of Fairgrove, and a daughter, Mrs. Lee Brown of Owosso. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery, at Fairgrove. February 17, 1966


Funeral services for Orville H. Bogert were held Thursday, April 17, at the Briggs' Funeral Home, Akron, Mich., with graveside services at the Riverside Cemetery, Vassar. The Reverend John Hicks of the Akron Presbyterian Church, which Mr. Bogert attended, officiated at the services. He died suddenly Tuesday, April I6, He. was born near Vassar April 12, 1879, the son of the late John and Orcelia Bogert. A brother Oren and a, sister Rena predeceased him. He was married Dec. 22, 1905, to Bertha J. Ridgeman of Vassar and to them were born three children: Neil, who died at nine months; Loraine, Mrs. William C. O'Dell of Cass City, and Bernard W. Bogert of Port Huron. Mrs. Bogert died in 1933. In 1951 he married Mrs. Minnie Bussing of Akron and moved to that vicinity to make his home. She died in March, 1968. Except for three years in Detroit when he was employed by the Michigan Central Railroad Company, Mr. Bogert spent his entire lifetime in Tuscola county. The biggest portion was spent as a businessman in Vassar. For several years during that time he was a member of the Village Council and while in Vassar attended the Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Vassar ~IOOF Lodge. After moving to Akron to live, he continued to drive to Vassar where he worked at the Miller Grain Company until he was over 80 years of age. Besides his son and daughter, he leaves 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 04-24-1969


Mrs. Helen E. Bohnsack, 54, of Bay City, died while sleeping Wednesday, March 29, at her home. Born in Bay Port Jan. 21, 1913, she had resided in Bay City since 1940. In 1932 she was married in Bay Port to George A. Bohnsack, former Cass City resident. Mrs. Bohnsack is survived by her husband; her mother, Mrs. Floyd Launsberry of Bay Port; two sisters. Mrs. Althea Carpenter of Royal Oak and Mrs. Mildred Zimmerman of St. Clair Shores, and a brother, Harry Launsberry of Detroit. She was a member of the Bay Port Methodist Church and Sharron Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services were held Friday at a Bay City funeral home. Rev. Bert Hosking officiated and burial was in Floral Gardens cemetery. 04-06-1967


Hambright, Edythe (Levitz), 37, of Sturgis, died Sunday evening in the University of Michigan Hospital at Ann Arbor, Michigan after an illness of 6 months during which time she suffered with Leukemia. Mrs. Hambright, who had been an associate in the medicine office of Dr.'s Sheldon and Brunson of Sturgis, was born at Detroit, on Aug. 18th, 1924, a daughter of Charles F. and Rosenia (Richards) Levitz. Her marriage was solemnized March 30, 1956 at Angola, Ind. Prior to her work in the doctor's office in Sturgis, she had been employed in hospital service. Surviving besides her husband, are her son, Robert Beecham, of Camp Fort Wayne, Detroit, Mich.; her father, Charles Levitz of Detroit; three brothers, Charles Levitz of Mongo and Herbert and Carl Levitz both of LaGrange, and three half brothers, Ray Collier of Caro, Mich., Faye Collier of Montrose, Mich., and Elmer Collier of Akron, Mich. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Fogelsong Funeral Home in Sturgis. The Rev. Phillip Crubaugh, pastor of the Church of God, officiated. Levitz, Charles F. Sr. - 82, of Detroit, Mich., was found dead in his apartment Sunday, February 23. He was born October 21, 1881 in Germany to Tony and Adeline (Caman) Levitz. He came to the United States in 1897. He resided in LaGrange from 1914-1920. He was employed at General Motors in Detroit and was a member of the American Legion there. Surviving are three sons, Charles Levitz Jr. of LaGrange Route 2, Herbert Levitz of LaGrange and Carl Levitz of Elkhart; 25 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Levitz of Jackson, MI, and one sister. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Grange. The Rev. Lawrence J. Beaver, pastor of the LaGrange Church of God officiated. Daniel L. Neveau, 36, of Reese died early Friday morning unexpectedly at St. Mary’s of Michigan. He was born on September 15, 1969 in Saginaw son of Gerald L. and Joann (Bauer) Neveau. Danny attended Reese Schools and had been employed at various farms in Iowa before returning to the Reese area. Surviving in addition to his father, Jerry Neveau of Reese and his mother, Joann Neveau of Saginaw; his son, Ryan James Neveau of Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bethanie and Gene Gilmore of Vassar, Stephanie and Mark Cittel of Saginaw; grandmothers, Mary Neveau and Helen Bauer both of Reese. -FUNERAL- Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Father Joseph Schabel will officiate with burial to follow in the St. Elizabeth Cemetery. -VISITATION- Danny’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Monday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of Mass. -MEMORIALS- Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the family discretionary fund.


Mrs. Robert K. Orr, Mrs. Orr died in Miami, Florida, May 1, 1960, following a stroke. Rev. Sterling L. Hunter of the St. Johns Presbyterian Church officiated at funeral services at the Lithgow Chapel on May 4, and burial was in Miami Memorial Park. Emma E. Gibbs was born October 21, 1879 in Caro, the daughter of Mary E. Peck and Elias Gibbs. She was graduated from Caro High School in 1898 and was united in marriage with Robert K. Orr in October of 1898. For many years they resided in Lansing, but have made their home in Florida for the past few years. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Lucile Davis of Miami, two sons, Ivahn Orr of Lansing and Wilfred Orr of Detroit; five grandsons, Robert Orr and Ronald Davis of Miami, Roy and Raymond Orr of Lansing, and Richard Orr of Anchorage, Alaska; two granddaughters, Mrs. Janet Grenert and Mrs. Shirley Richman of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Charles A. Gibbs of Caro and Melvin E. Gibbs of Unionville and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie McAlpine of Akron; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Edith Palmer, 87, died Sunday at Tuscola County Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born Oct. 18, 1878. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Helen Youmans Smith of Saginaw; three grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Akron. Tuscola County Advertiser – Wednesday, July 3, 1963 Riley, Orlo T - Funeral services are slated to be held Wednesday, July 3, at Huston Funeral Home at 1:30 pm for Orlo T. Riley, 77, Caro. Rev. Paul M. Cargo will officiate and interment will be in Caro Cemetery. He died Sunday June 30, at his home after a long illness. Born June 20, 1986 in Dayton Township, he was a retired 25-year Michigan Bean Company employee. He married Nellie Dykes July 1, 1908, at Kingston. He was also a member of Greiner's Insurance Company. Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters: Mrs. William (Bernice) Fitzgerald, and Mrs. Anna Witte, both of Caro; two sons John and Keith, both of Caro, 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Margaret Osgerby, Caro Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Collon Funeral Home, Caro, for Mrs. Margaret M. [Larrabee] Osgerby, 74, of 204 N. Almer Street, Caro, who died Tuesday [October 10, 1967] at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. Burial will be in Caro Cemetery with Rev. Paul M. Cargo officiating. Mrs. Osgerby was born at Akron on October 27, 1892 and lived all her life in Tuscola County. She was a retired school teacher, was principal of the Tuscola County School for Handicapped Children three years and was a member of the Caro Methodist Church and the M.E.A. & W.C.S.S. She married the late Clark W. Osgerby at Bay City on August 29, 1914. He predeceased her in 1950. Surviving are four sons, Clare and Cecil of Caro, John of Toledo, and Robert of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Wendall Hartman of Caro; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. John C. Ross, 71, lifelong resident of the Owendale area, died Monday, May 5, in Bay City General Hospital after a short illness. He was born June 26, 1897, in Huron county. Mr. Ross and Jessie Reece were married January 22,1921, in Pontiac. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Owendale, and the Acme Masonic Lodge, Gagetown. Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Vedder of EauGallie, Florida, Mrs. Alpine MacGregor of Vassar and Mrs. Clarence Sageman of Bad Axe; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Graham of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Mrs. Altha Vorhes, Curren; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Masonic memorial services were held Tuesday night at the Shetler Funeral Chapel in Pigeon. Funeral services were to have been held Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Owendale, with Rev. Clifford DeVore officiating. Burial was in Grant township cemetery 5-8-1969


Walsh Baby Dies
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Walsh of Ubly died April 14 at a Bay City hospital. Burial was in Austin cemetery April 15. The Rev. Joseph Ryan officiated at 10:00 a.m. April 22, 1965


Darren Jack Weinmueller, Vassar, age 36, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 1962 in Saginaw the son of Mr. And Mrs. Jack and Lorraine Weinmueller, Left to cherish his parents; brothers and sisters, Danny Weinmueller of Vassar, Diane Billips of N.C., Dean and wife Teresa Weinmueller of S.C., Dawn and husband Brian Boomsma of Grand Rapids; 5 nephews, Hans and Erich Weinmueller of S.C., Benjamin Bryant and Brandon Billips of N.C.; 1 niece, Bridget Billips of Vassar; 2 uncles; 4 aunts; many cousins. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Juniata Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Bryan and Mr. Joe Cox officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1-9 PM on Tuesday. On Wednesday Darren will be taken to church to lie in state where friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be considered for C.E.F. or Juniata Christian Schools.

Funeral services were held Friday at Huston Funeral Home, Caro, for Clinton Charles Vader, who died Tuesday, Dec. 13, at his rural Cass City home.
Rev. Paul Lehner, pastor of Colwood United Brethren church, officated and burial was in Unionville cemetery
Mr. Vader was born Sept. 12, 1888, in Columbia township and spent his entire life in Tuscola county. He was a retired farmer. He married Lena Hensel in October 1920. She died Sept. 15, 1962
Surviving are two sons, Carl and Charles, both of Flint; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Weiderhold of Flint; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three brothers Neil of Akron; and William and Fred, both of Flint

Mrs. Hartley dies at Caro hospital

, 87, died Monday afternoon at Caro Community Hospital
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Huston Funeral Home in Caro. The Rev. Paul M. Cargo will officiate. Burial will be in Ellington cemetery.
Mrs. Hartley was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rondo and was born Aug. 7, 1895, in Elmwood township. She was married to Jay Hartley Nov. 9, 1918, in Cass City and spent her entire life in Tuscola County
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Carl D. and John, both of Ponitac; four daughters, Mrs. Steve (Marie) Cybulski of Cass City, Mrs. John (Clara) Cybulski of Holly, Mrs. Earl (Mildred) Parker of Decker; one brother, Floyd Rondo of Ponitac; 20 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren

She came from Detroit area six years ago to make her home with her brother, George Taylor. Survivors include another brother and sister


Myrtle Karr
Services were to have been held Wednesday afternoon at the Huston Funeral Home in Caro fro Mrs. Myrtle Karr, 74. The widow of Arthur Karr, she was born Aug. 28, 1894, in Elmwood township. She was a lifelong area resident. Survivors are two brothers and stepgrandchildren. Burial was in the Caro cemetery


Harry Avery
The funeral for Harry Avery, 72, was also to have been held Wednesday afternoon at the Huston Funeral Home. Military rites were slated at the graveside by the American Legion. He was born Nov. 5, 1895, in Caro. Burial was in Caro cemetery. Survivors include a son, Richard and grandchildren and great-grandchildren
