Sophia Lutton
 
  Sophia Lutton was born in May 1833 in Cecil County Maryland. On March 3, 1853 she married Alexander McKnight in Cecil County, Maryland. Sophia and Alexander had eight children together, all born in Cecil County. Their son Albert Franklin is my direct ancestor. After the death of her husband  in 1880 Sophia became a nurse. When she was about 76 she moved in with her son Albert. Sophia died February 6, 1920 at the age of 86 at the home of her daughter Leah in Washington, DC.
 
The Children of Sophia Lutton and Alexander McKnight
 
1) Mary Eliza (Liddie): Liddie was born in Cecil County Maryland about 1854. On December 14, 1871 she married E.W. Janney, then sheriff of Cecil County. Liddie had one known child Flora L. born in 1872. Sometime after her husbands death in 1890 she moved to Virginia.
 
2) Marcus Alexander: Marcus was born about 1855 in Cecil County, he died before 1860.
 
3) Albert Franklin (Frank): Frank was born in Elkton Maryland on June 17, 1858. He married Anna Louisa Janney. They are my direct ancestors.
 
4) Arthur Alexander: Arthur was born in Elkton in June 1861.On November 6 1882 he married  Mary Jones and they had four children together, only three of which are known: Minnie S. (September 1883), Frances (October 1892), and Helen  (June 1897). Arthur was a foreman at the pulp mill. He also served as a committee clerk for the State Senate in 1892. Arthur died in 1942 at the age of eighty years.
 
5) Fannie: Fannie was born in1865 and died July 16 1868
 
6) Leah Ellen: Leah was born in 1868. On May 19,1887 she married Harry Giles, compostor of the Cecil County Whig. Harry and Leah lived in both Washington DC and Virigina. It is not known if they had any children.
 
7) Mable Sophia: Mable was born in 1871 in Elkton. About 1898 she married Lewis Ehlers. They had one child together, Margaret (1899). Mabel and Lewis lived out their lives in Cecil County.
 
8) William Allen: William was born in Elkton in 1875 and died on August 28, 1884.
