Thomas
Janney
Thomas Janney was born
in Maryland about 1842. On July 1, 1857 he married Anna Maria Samson in Chester
County, Pa.
Thomas mustered into the 6th Maryland Regiment, G Company on
August 19, 1862. He signed up for three years or for the duration of the war.
Thomas' brother Wesley and his brother in law John Hurley also mustered into the
same company days after Thomas, they both deserted.
Thomas was captured at Winchester,
Virginia on June 15,1863 and confined at Richmond June 23 and 24. He was
parolled at Leily Point, Virginia on July 23 of that year and reported to Camp
Maryland the next day.
Thomas died on the first day of
battle at the "Wilderness" on May 5, 1864. His widow applied for and recieved a
pension after his death. Anna Maria died on December 19, 1865. James
McCullough became guardian of Anna Louisa (my direct ancestor) and Melvin,
their only children. Anna's son George went by the name of Janney after the
marriage of Thomas and Anna Maria.

1) Anna Louisa: Anna was born in Cecil
County, Maryland on October 24 1857. She married Albert Franklin McKnight on
September 17, 1852. Anna Louisa died on March 1, 1908 from TB. She is buried in
Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetary. For more on her husband and their children click

2) Melvin Janney: Melvin
was born in Cecil County Maryland on September 30, 1862. He lived with Thomas Lee
until his marriage to Ella T. about 1887.
