The
Boley's & Bolich's of Berks and Lancaster
County
Johan George Bolich was born
about 1718 in Germany. On December 13, 1754 at 36 years of age he arrived in
Philadelphia on the ship Neptune. Records state the passengers were from
Hamburg, Hanover and Saxony.
He had three sons: John Valentine, John Peter (My ancestor), and John George.
He moved his
family to Caernarvon Berks County between 1774 and 1779. Johan George died in December 1797
in Caernarvon Township, Berks County. His will leaves his estate to his
wife Judith and then to his sons. It appears Judith died about 1802 as
that is when the final account was dated and his sons received their
inheritance.
Unofficial documents suggest that John George was married twice, firstly to a
woman named Catherine and they had other children. However, the three sons
listed below are the only children I can document to my
satisfaction.
The Children of Johan George Bolich
1)Johan Valentine Bolich was born in July of 1749. On May 23 1773 he
married Maria Elisabeth Fewinger. He lived both in Philadelphia and Montgomery County. It is believed Valentine also served in the American Revolution. His Known children
are: Henry (1777), Anna Maria (1774), Jacob (1776), George (1780), Catherine
(1783) and David (1785). He died February 1813. His decendents changed their name
to Poley.
2)Johan Peter
Bolich was born about 1748. On
November 21 1782 he married Catherine Ries. Johan Peter died in 1804. His
children changed their last name to Boley sometime before 1820. For more on my
4th Great Grandfather use the above link.
3)Johan George Bolich married Catherine Mecklin on January 10 1775
in New Hanover, Montgomery
County. He may have also served in the American Revolution
in Captain Hawns Company. George died before May 9, 1778. He had 9
children (four sons and five daughter), only two children are known, Frederick (1777)
and Johan George (1776). I believe his other children are from a prior
marriage.
