(from Andrew Kent Papers)

Abram was born at the ancestral home on West Byrd Creek. When a child, his parents moved to North Carolina. From Mildred Kent Abraham Suddreth Kent was born at the ancestral home on West Byrd Creek
He was called Col. A.S. Kent. He was trained by Azor Sherrill to be a carpenter according to Julia Kent Corpening, a granddaughter. He inherited most of the land and slaves owned by his father. He lived in the Abraham Suddreth-Kent home on the Lower Creek and Abington Creek about two miles west of Lenior.
The highest commission in the military was Lt. col. of the 80th Regiment, NC militia, issued by Thomas Bragg, Governor of NC, Oct 1858. He served in the Mlitia during the Civil War. His slaves were evidently disposed of before the Civil war and the freeing of slaves by Abraham Lincoln as there are no Negro people with the last name of Kent around Caldwell Co.
In January 1885, before his death, he divided his land between his three living children by deeding each portions of his land. The land Alfred Abraham Kent was given included the homeplace and gave his wife dowery rights in this tract of land during her lifetime.
