Captain Gerlach died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident New Years's eve when his fire truck collided with an automobile at Third avenue and Twenty-fourth street. Pallbearers will be Firemen W. R. Bias, W. C. Ferguson, C. E. Roach, E. M. Green, and D. F. Dillon.

GIBSON, Eustace, a Representative from West Virginia; born in Culpeper County, Va., October 4, 1842; attended the common schools; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in 1861; enlisted in the Confederate Army in June 1861 as first lieutenant; promoted to captain in 1863 and retired on account of wounds; member of the constitutional convention of Virginia in 1867 and 1868; settled in Huntington, W.Va., in 1871; member of the State house of delegates in 1877 and 1878, and served as speaker in 1877; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1883-March 3, 1887); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of Justice (Forty-ninth Congress); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1886 and for nomination in 1888; again resumed the practice of law; died in Clifton Forge, Va., on December 10, 1900; interment in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va.

survivor of a family that figured prominently in the early history of
Huntington, died in a hospital here last night at 8:50 P.M. He had
suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at his home early yesterday morning.

Mr. Gibson was born at Westfield New York on July 10, 1865, a son of
John T. and Eliza Ord Gibson, and came to Huntington at an early age.
His father established the Huntington Commerical a weekly newspaper
which was published in a building he erected in the 1000 block of
Third
Ave.

John R. Gibson learned the printers trade in his fathers newspaper plant
and later established a commerical printing shop himself. A brother, the
late Wes Gibson, was associated with their father in the editorial side
of the weekly.

John T. Gibson, who lived to the age of 101 was one Huntingtons early
postmasters.

John R.Gibson was a brother of the late C.D. Emmons and Mrs. M.C.
Dimmick, both of whom were prominent figures in early Huntington.

Suriving are the widow, Mrs.Frieda Seyler Gibson; two nephews, Lt.
General Delos C. Emmons, commanding general of the Alaskan Department,
and Howard B. Emmons of Washington, and two nieces, Mrs. C.M. Gohen of
Huntington and Mrs. Evan Williams of Los Angeles.

The body was taken to the Steele Funeral Home. Arrangement for
services were not completed, but the body probably will be taken to Westfield
for burial beside those of Mr. Gibsons parents. Parents: John T. Gibson and Eliza Ord.
