I found my great-grandfather & grandmother in this cemetary (Culloden).
Samuel Shelton McDaniel 1865-1925. I'm trying to find his birthplace. His son, my grandfather, was Jesse Damon McDaniel & resided at 140 Francis Street, Htgn, WV at the time of his death. Would there be any info about my gr-grandf
on Jesse's birth or death certificate? Any help will be tremendously appreciated.

Cabell Co., WV. At. Guyandotte, WV January 28, 1884, Allen M. McGinnis in the
85th year of his age. He was born at Little Levels, Greenbrier County, Virginia
on the 6th day of April, 1799. His father, Edmund McGinnis, moved from Little
Levels, landing at Guyandotte the 6th day of October, 1802 and purchased and
settled down upon what is now known as the Shelton Place, on the Guyandotte and
Barboursville pike, between those places. Edmund McGinnis was a man of influence
and standing in his day, having been County Surveyor for years, and represented
this County in the General Assembly of Virginia seven sessions. Allen, the subject
of this sketch, had like hold on the public confidence and was also an influential
man in his day. Under the old system of Virginia, prevailing prior to 1852,
he was a magistrate and High Sheriff; in fact, he is the last in this County
of that line of officers composing the old County Court. He was also elected
to and served in the General Assembly of Virginia in the year 1832 and 1848.
He was of the Whig school of politics. Esquire McGinnis, his colloquial address
for half a century or more, was noted for his public spirit, generosity, and
benevolence; in fact, the latter quality prevented his thrift in this world and
kept him in humble circumstances most of his life. He was the father of nine
children, three of whom, Dr. A. B. McGinnis, Judge Ira J. McGinnis, and Mrs.
John W. Thornburg, reside now in Guyandotte, this County. He was buried in the
Holderby cemetery on the 29th day of January.
