John Washington Jefferson⁽¹⁾ was born on 1 Jan 1821 in Cabell Co., Va.(WV). He died on 10 Aug 1923 in on Wild Cat Kreek, Cabell Co., WV. Funeral services for John Wash. Jefferson, age 102, familiarly known to many residents of Cabell County as "Wash" Jefferson , will be held tomorrow at 2:30 o'clock at Oak Hill, Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Jefferson died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock at his home, a mile and a half east of Barboursville. He was a life-long resident of Cabell county and his death occurred about two miles from his birthplace.
He was the father of fourteen children 46 grand-children, 75 great-grandchildren and one great great grand child. He was born January 1, 1821 and was twice married. he was converted 55 years ago at the old log church at Deer Pen, and has since been a faithful member of the United Brethren Church. He as coverted by "Uncle Sam Martin, a famous preacher of his day. Seven years ago Mr Jefferson removed his membership to the Z Warner chapel and served there until his death ysterday morning on Wild Cat Creek.
He is survived by 10 of his children six girls and four boys and many other relatives.

John Wesley Jefferson⁽¹⁾ died on 11 Oct 1943 in LeSage, Cabell Co., WV. J. W. JEFFERSON - Eighty-three years old retired farmer of Lesage, died last night at his home. The body will be at the Heck & Danford Funeral Home at Milton pending completion of funeral arrangements. MR. JEFFERSON, a lifelong resident of the Lesage community, was a member of the Ferncliffe Odd Fellows Lodge and the Z Warner United Brethren Church. Surviving are the widow, MRS LAURA JEFFERSON; five daughters, MRS MAY CONRAD, MRS VERNA LINVILLE, MRS LIZZIE BOWMAN, MRS. ROY ALIFF and MISS CLARA JEFFERSON of Lesage; a son CHARLES JEFFERSON of Lesage; three sisters MISS MAY JEFFERSON OF Huntington and MRS. MAHALIA CREMEANS of Branchland, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Surname: JEFFERSON, KYLE, BUSHBY, WINTERS, ALIFF

John Wesly Jefferson was my great grandfather, son of Henry Jefferson and Mary Ann Kyle. Elizabeth Bushby and Harry Jefferson were Henry Jefferson's parents. Elizabeth Bushby came over on a ship with her mother from England @ age 12. John Wesly's wife's maiden name was Laura E. Winters. The daughter listed in this death notice as Mrs. Roy Aliff is actually Naomi Marie Jefferson, my grandmother. I remember great-aunts Verna and Clara too, as I met them when I was very young. I have more detailed tree info on Jefferson family...names, dates, etc.. if interested. Feel free to contact me via e-mail. I need parental info on Roy Lee Aliff's father, James E. Aliff b. ca. 1880, if anyone has it.

Additional Notes:
Elizabeth Bushby's mother died on the journey from England and was given a burial at sea. Elizabeth died @ age 97. Her husband Harry Jefferson died January 1872 @ age 98 and both were buried on a farm in Cabell (owner & location known, but best kept private). Harry originally came to the Cabell area from Alexandria, VA. -added 18 Aug 1998
