Letter written by Mark Bogue Kinsey to his daughter and son in law Emma Clara Kinsey Vernon and Amos Clinton Vernon September 4th 1911
(Less then a month after MB Kinsey wrote this letter he passed away) See below for a transcript of all 3 pages
Formoso Kans Sept 4th 1911 Dear Son & Daughter I am wondering how you are getting along So I thought I would write It has been so dry & hot this summer I have had the blues worse than ever I am afr (sic) did you have not raised a good crop. So I wish you would tell us just how the crops are my corn will make about 30 bushels per acre come hay about one ton to the acre alfalfa ½ ton to the acre potatoes 100 lbs per acre No garden worth anything (page 2) Fred & I have been looking for a better Place to move to we were at Burns in the South part of Marion County Peabody in the same county then at Newton in Harvey County then 71 W – Tehison in Reno County then Great bend in Barton County & Claflin in Same County then Salina in Saline County then then Mineaopolis in Otowa County then Randell & home We made many crooks & turns in making the trip I have a speedamoter on my car & it Said we went 560 miles We were gone 4 days crops were much better than in Jewell county we are going another trip in a few days we want to find a place (page 3) this Fall & get moved We found land $30 $40 $60 $70 $80 $90 $100 & a few peces still higher We had been thinking about visiting all you Folks this Fall but we may not get to we have so much to do but will try to corn is .55 to .60 hay $10 ton Please write Soon & we will be glad to hear from you Yours Truly M B Kinsey Formoso Kans
