He was also known as Christopher Baltzer This was the name he used. He was also known as Johannes Christopher Baltzer. He was a butcher first in Rosenthal and then in Maeburg. In 1998 there was still a BALTZER butcher shop in Rosenthal Germany.
In the days of Johann Christopher BALTZER, butchers were medium-to-upper middle class people. He origionally came with his family, from the state of Hessen, in what is now Northern Germany, with many other Foreign Protestant settlers to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1752, and then in 1753 to Lunenburg.
He was listed in the ship Sally as aged 41 and a butcher. The ship's list said he was indebted for 3 1/2 freights, fee 264.12.0 (equivalent to 24-1-3 Pounds).
