| John Puddephatt was born in Lee Common, Bucks, on 20th February 1900, to James and Sarah Puddephatt | Eveline Jelley was born in Battersea, London, on 21st October 1888, to Alfred and Myra Jelley. | |
| John worked on various farms as a boy, with his father. When the Great War started he joined the Navy (he said he was 18, even though he was only 14) and served as a Signalman on a mine sweeper ship in the Scappa Flow. |

Eveline went into Service at a young age, and is believed to have worked in Bayswater and on the Isle of Wight. She ended up at Orchard Leigh, near Chesham, Bucks, where she met John (he was the Milkman!)
John and Eveline were married at Wandsworth Registry Office on 30th
March 1918.
They had five children:

| John and Eveline first lived in Chesham Bois, at Mayhall
farm cottage. Before 1924, they moved back to Whelpley Hill, and lived on the various farms where John was working, and later moved into No 4, Council Houses at Whelpley Hill. |

They moved to St. Leonards, East Sussex in the 1950s.
Eveline died on 21st November 1978, aged 90. John died on 15th December 1987, aged 87 years.
