James and Sarah first lived in Lee Common, and then by the time of the 1901 census, they were living in Whelpley Hill. They later lived in cottages next to the "Hen and Chickens" pub in Botley, near Chesham. The cottages were later knocked down (to make a car park for the pub) and they moved to 67, Swan Yard, Ley Hill.
James died on 6th June 1947, at Chesham cottage hospital, aged 81. Sarah died at her home on 5th March 1948, aged 75 years. They were buried at St George's Church in Botley, near Chesham.
