Thomas Burgin
(1775-1857)
Thomas Burgin was born in Flaunden in 1775, to William and
Sarah Burgin. He was baptised at Flaunden Church on 3rd March 1776 (this was at the
old Flaunden Church, now a ruin in the Chess river valley).
Thomas married twice, first to Ann Kempster
(c1773-1825) on 11th October 1797 at Amersham
Church.
They had ten children between 1798 and 1819:

Ann died in 1825, said to be aged 52. She was buried on 12th December
1825 at Bovingdon Church.
His second wife was Maria Bastin
(c1802-1853). They were married on 10th December
1831 at Chesham Bois church.

Thomas was a Carpenter, taking on his father's trade. It is not known exactly where he
lived. The 1841 census gives his address as "Hydes Buildings" (which could be
somewhere near the top of Bovingdon High Street). The 1851 census just says
"Bovingdon".
Thomas died in 1857, said to be aged 88 years (although he was probably only 82, from his
ages on the censues). He was buried on 15th May 1857 at Bovingdon Church.
Maria died in 1853, said to be aged 50. She was buried on 10th March 1853 at Bovingdon
Church.
