"Shows the storage buildings along the north side of the security fence. Also, you can see how wide the parking lot was at that time. No longer so with the new construction." (of 2003) . . . John Brown "The first car I owned after getting married in Japan. What a car...solid steel, built like a tank. Definitely not made for driving in Japan (i.e., very narrow roads at best, too many bicycles and lots of kamikaze drivers). But, sure made me feel like the 'king of the road.' I drove this car from Johnson AB to Owada Receiver Site (Kiyose) and back for over two years on shift work. Nights were especially hazardous with all the 1964 Olympics' construction going on. Zillions of dump trucks always trying to take my share of the road...and more. Most memorable driving experience I had was when I parked at the Kiyose Train Station and took a train to Akihabara. When I returned, all four tires were flat! I had parked in a posted no parking zone. I can still see the smiles on the station attendants faces." . . . John Brown

AIC John Brown 1963: "My first duty assignment in the U.S. Air Force after jumping ship from the U.S. Marine Corps. Performed duties as a site controller and radio repairman at the Owada Radio Receiver Site, 1956th Communications Group, Detachment #3 (Kiyose, Japan) from June 1961 through March 1965. When I arrived, the site was a U.S. Army installation hosting both Army and Air Force personnel performing independent, but similar HF radio communications missions. The radio equipments and communications operations were jointly located in one wing of the main Administration/Operations Building. Sometime later, the Army moved to Camp Drake and the Air Force assumed complete command and control of the site. A very challenging and rewarding tour of duty was had!" . . . John Brown |

"The site Mascot, 'Chief-Ci' must have been my replacement . . . I left and it arrived. Also, better looking." . . . John Brown

John Brown 1962: " The job wasn't everything. So, here I am out of uniform, enjoying a day-off with my wife (photographer) at a local reservoir somewhere in the Kanto
Plains area. Back in those days, there were quite a few nice places to have a picnic and enjoy the country side. Course, driving was always better than taking the train and we always felt safe and secure riding in the 49 Tank."
