On September 16, 1893 when the Federal Government opened the Cherokee Strip of Oklahoma Indian Territory for settlement, Harry Phillips age 21, was one of the 50,000 who rode for and staked claims in a single day. Later he returned to Kenne, Texas and graduated in 1901. He married Anna Reading on June 12, 1901 at her parent’s home at 320 Washington Street, Oklahoma City. After their marriage they worked for a time at the Adventist Conference Office and then settled in Lawton, Oklahoma where they lived until 1916, when they moved to Jaroso, Colorado so that their children might attend an Adventist school. Harry kept a diary for much of his adult life.
