Ruth Phillips, according to the book "History of Buckland 1779 - 1935 By Fannie Shaw Kenderick & Lucy Cutler Kellog" is the daughter of Elijah Phillips and Cynthia Goodwin both of Ashfield.

This is apparently an incorrect statement.  After many searches and discussions, I find that the best probable parents are Vespasian Phillips and Abilene Belding.  Vespasian and Abilena moved from Dighton at some time to Ashfield, Ma. where they had at least two children and probably three of which Ruth would be one.  If the History of Buckland is to be believed, then we can be certain that Ruth was born in Buckland, however I suspect that she was also born in Ashfield.  A search of the Ashfield records may well prove this where as the records for Bucklan no longer exist

Erik Conard states strongly that Ruth is NOT a daughter of Elijah but gives no proof other than his statement.

Carol Booker also states that the book is wrong and that the book is wrong in many instances, however in defense of the book, she states that the book was written without the benefit of town records which were destroyed in a fire.

I have therefore, after much thought, attached Ruth to Vespasian and Abilena for dates and time frames fit best.
